What can i say about this absolute piece of art?
I must admit i always have a sort of hesitation in wearing this fragrance, a sort of awe. It intoxicate me, it drives me out of mind in an olfactory trance. Its pure aesthetic seduction, an illusory mask of grandeur, a venomous ephemeral beauty, a mysterious force that commands reverence. Maybe its just narcissistic madness or edonistic vanity. I dont know.

Anyway this is by far my favourite fragrance. Its overpriced? I only know i would pay any price for this drug.

kipsu

This is so good, my favourite La Serpent SHL777 fragrance by far.
Has a sort of "baloon" type of smell on my skin, which probably stems from the leather note.
Really well-blended woody/leather fragrance, with some freshness from the Ink & Blackberry note, although not very prominent.
Very well suited for date nights, as the cardamom and leather come across the highest for me. Very seductive, not too dark and will generally be more mass-appealing than other fragrances with similar scent accords.

karapar13

Ended up not enjoying this due to it's extremely balsamic scent profile, if you can't stand resinous and balsamic scents, this one isn't for you. Has good sillage and longevity, but the ink/resins ended up being too much for me. I really like the iris and blackberry notes in this though.

RGH01

Mortal Skin is one of the more unique creations from Stephane Humbert Lucas, tying in an array of strange and unusual notes and yet has housed them together beautifully. All in all this is a resinous incense-based fragrance; the thick, chewy nature of myrrh, opoponax and styrax mingle to create that incredibly dark yet alluring smoky feel.

Alongside this is the dominant note of blackberry, with its sweet juiciness subdued by a heavy dose of thick black ink. This juxtaposes the delicious aura of the blackberry with something far more bitter and brooding. A leathery labdanum and smooth woody base finish this scent of to perfection.

This scent is a fantastically though-provoking creation, definitely a fragrance to stand out from the crowd. I’m not sure it’s exactly my style but I can appreciate the creativity and passion that’s gone into making this.

normalswamp

This is how I imagine "spice" from "Dune" smells. Mystical, sweet and oriental with desert vibe. 10/10, though I find it more suitable for female.

brumbarche

Smooth and quiet. Gloomy, but interesting. Mysterious, like smoky eyes. Polarizing too, imo. I like it a lot. Not for the price, though. Billie Eilish 2 is in the same alley and this is the price I’d expect for a scent with such profile.

I often layer Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay with Miller Harris Tender in order to achieve this deep dark pastel grey color that I crave at times.
It’s not the same ofc. MS in comparison feels more gloomy, but peppery warm; of sweeter and more dense resins (the oppoponax) and it’s more inky. There’s something about it that feels cozy but ozonic, like the air in a warm damp secluded basement with a private swimming pool in it (chlorinated water vapor).
While the combo I use is watercolor, more powdery, floral, pepper-minty (the bayleaf) and lacks the resinous touch (which perfumes like Memo Shams Oud , ADO Larmes du Desert, Smoking Hot etc .. have, without the ink that’s here), more airy.
I’m mentioning all this so that you can see how it’s not easy to get a good idea of what the perfume is like from a mere description, or praise or negative comments. So, no matter who says what about how good it is - one thing is for sure - this is not a safe blindbuy. It needs extensive testing. It is unusual. It gives me this funeral home vibe. I like it, but in a twisted way. I think it’s not something most people would wear to appeal to others, but I can see how it can work well if you are a mortician or attending a funeral or nail it on Halloween dressed as a sophisticated, but somehow sensual pale vampire hosting a basement pool party.

Myrtillajus

The viper is considered a symbol of knowledge as it re-emerges from darkness towards the light.
Its shedding of skin represents spiritual awakening and for some cultures the life cycle of death and rebirth.
Mortal Skin is enveloping and mysterious, captivating with notes of ink and blackberry and then with a dusty Iris, which I perceive a lot on my skin.
The resins and woods enrich it but in my opinion it is such a successful alchemy that it is very difficult to speak about single notes.
It's intriguing, sinuous and I really like it.
A great mess about the performance, which is average, I would have preferred it to last longer.

gendabenda

i think it seems lovely but i can barely smell it. it is so so weak! now, i am not convinced by the nuclear eternal trend in perfumery which is mostly achieved by ambrocenide and the like, but i do like my perfumes to smell of something...

JonnyFrags

My first SHL in my collection….damn this is good

For some reason this is a very comforting scent to me. Beautifully nuanced with the blackberry, ink, myrrh and cardamom notes standing out the most to me.

This bottle is so freaking cool too. My new favorite bottle in my collection (sorry, Electimuss)

My only wish is that it projected more off the skin but maybe I have to let this macerate.

Don’t listen to the review below me. This does not smell like plastic at all. Test it on your skin and see the beauty of this unfold. A reminder to always take negative reviews with a grain of salt. Some people here don’t properly test fragrances or have very weird skin. Idk, but this is not a synthetic or ‘fake’ plastic smell at all.

Scent - 9/10
Bottle - 10/10
Longevity - 8.5/10
Projection - 6/10

cloudynight

Truly gross. Has that gross 'fake' almost plastic smell... like a halloween store. Mortal Skin? I guess if we're talking about the skin suit from Men in Black. Had to scrub this one off. Maybe I got a bad sample and this isn't what it is supposed to smell like at all. I think I can detect some of the ink and incense but it gets lost in the muck.

RottigrlNYC

It’s very nice but much too weak . After a few minutes, it starts to disappear into the skin. Then it becomes barely noticeable. I hope the perfumer makes this beauty stronger. Or else it’s useless. Not worth it if I have to keep reapplying every 10 mins. I’ve noticed a trend with beautiful but very weak fragrances being released after 2020. Many reformulations of my favorites but much weaker.

shelby.allen

Nice, but overpriced for what it is...

SalivatingSoul-stice

This has the capacity to be my signature but it needs to project more.

10/10 scent wise

Call me a nut job, but this smells like the blackberry lemonade crystal light powders to make the drink with.

This has a candied aspect without identifying as a candy fragrance.

The intermingling between the sutble smoke and sweetness is amazing to me.

Please make a flanker called immortal skin (with better projection) and you will have a hit. Mark my words!

RhettB27

It’s taken some time to fully appreciate Mortal Skin. I got my bottle 4-5 months ago and I initially wasn’t too keen on it. It’s unapologetic at first but it dries into a gorgeous rich, smoky, and ambery incense that becomes an experience rather than just a fragrance. It possesses a smokey leathery facet from the labdanum, birch, and styrax most likely, with spicy warm balsamic qualities from the myrrh/sweet myrrh working with it. It’s mysterious and refined, on the darker side, but it wears surprisingly easy especially after an hour or so. Great performance and it leans masculine to me, but part of the beauty of fragrances is how they personally morph with you. I’d say Mortal Skin is a top tier incense fragrance that offers unique qualities and ultimately doesn’t wear as heavy as you would initially expect it to.
Btw I layered Initio Blessed Baraka under this to sweeten it up some and damn…just amazing 🤤

ichi

I love this perfume but the only way I can describe it is sexy gingerbread.

Chevi

I really love this scent. It's true to its blackberry notes, rich and sweet but not sugary or synthetic. The ink is certainly present as well, something cold and resinous. Reminds me of when I'd take apart pens as a kid and stain my fingers with it. Those subtle, musky notes on dry down (mostly iris and myrrh to my nose) are just gorgeous and do not overwhelm the profile. To me this a truly luxurious perfume, rich and layered without being overly produced. Not showy, not strong, rather mysterious and complimentary to most anyone's natural smell.

Lolo79S

today my first 3 spray from this fragrance , for sure I looooooove it so much , I feel great for women, in my skin Amber and black berry with ink ( yes you can feel same Touch ) I can small iris, Cardamom and Woody notes 🖤🖤🖤 again love it so much

ducktaco

I loved it so much I bought the bottle. I've seen so many mixed reviews on this, and a lot of people saying the scent is challenging. I don't know how other people can experience this fragrance in that way because to me it almost seems like it would be crowd pleasing, at least hard to hate. It is completely unisex, and both me (F) and my partner (M) loved this one immediately. He knows nothing about fragrance and usually doesn't have opinions on the samples I bring home.

We both agree that there is something slightly fruity far in the background, but the experience is just a pleasant incense-y, dry woody scent that isn't very loud but at the same time feels kind of witchy and mysterious.

Airwrecka

First wearing today and this is the development to my nose.
Top: blackberry, incense and fish.
Middle: fish and rose.
Base: dried fruit and baby powder.
What I smell seems very far removed from what the notes suggest. Something in this smells vaguely metallic and fishy, unfortunately it ruined the fragrance for me.

JenJBS

Fascinating scent. I couldn't 'fit' it into any one or two categories (woody amber) as there is so much complexity. I wouldn't consider this an everyday scent, but more a scent to wear for the right mood/occasion. I won't use this enough to justify a full bottle, but when this sample runs out I can see buying another one so I can have this scent on hand. Imo, this is a unique scent that on the rare occasions I'll want it, I'll want this exact scent and not some other scent in my collection.

_NicoleNonya

This is so masculine, it's a cold weather scent. It's suffocating.
The wood, iris and cardamon is too strong, it hi jacks the other notes to my nose.
In the dry down you get some smoke lingering, not for me but I could see this smelling good on my husband if the weather = 50 F or less.

RottigrlNYC

This one is too weird, badly blended. I don’t know what I’m smelling, but it’s weak. Not a fan.

oceanorchid

The notes here are completely wrong. Is nobody reviewing these things before publising them?

The correct notes according to SHL are:

Blackberry, Saffron, Cardamom

Sandalwood, Opoponax, Iris

Labdanum, Musk, Ambergris

Mp96-88

Wow! So mysterious and unique , the scent is like a dark mysterious snake cave. You can really smell the combination of incense, ink and blackberry' Love it.

ornament_bird

A masterpiece from one of the best perfumer that understand arabic perfume culture... the ink mixed beautifully with spices and dried fruits very balanced in extremely way very dark and mysterious....
It's feels like you sleep near a serpent 🐍
SHL is a genius 👏

jassca99

A dark fruit, inky, spicy fragrance grounded by resins and embers. There’s also a little leathery vibe going on that is not off-putting and works well with all that’s going on. It does ultimately dry down into a soft Iris sandalwood that has a little warmth, maybe 3-5 hours in. It’s never that loud to begin with but it softens even more and again sums up to be a nice powdery woody scent in the end. Very pleasant, kind of hard to hate which is quite funny given the notes listed.

The Wolf

Once in a blue moon I come across something so unique that it's difficult to describe and put in a bucket with similar fragrances. Mortal Skin does not smell like anything I've tried, so there's no point of reference but I'll try. Opening and middle I get mainly blackberry, ink, and incense. It smells very cold, very complex, and mysterious. Beyond that, musk, orris, and unique suede comes out.

A friend described this to me as how he would imagine a snakes skin to smell and I agree. It does have a snake/alligator skin vibe. If I had to compare, it reminds me a little bit of Etat Libre D'Orange Rien, little bit of Tom Ford Fabulous, and Jubilation XXV mixed together. Very interesting option for the cold weather. This is art, but also wearable art that smells good! There's something addictive about this one one. Absolutely bottle worthy..

Scent 9.5/10
Performance 7/10

twoski

I pick up that tart blackberry scent in the opening. I notice a lot of resins and a slightly salty ambergris note. The artemsia adds a very subtle greenness, and i pick up some dusty iris and sour cardamom.

The scent is pretty toned down though, it doesn't jump off the strip at me at all.

There's not a ton of sweetness here, but nothing that makes the scent too masculine either. This is unisex enough that a woman can wear it without feeling like they're using their husband's cologne.

I don't dislike this offering but it's not especially mind-blowing for me either. If you want a kind of gothic, dark mysterious scent that doesn't have too overwhelming of a presence (and doesn't contain any rose, saffron or patchouli notes), i think this is a good choice.

HellHere

Cardan would wear this 😄

Clauder13

Really dark and a mysterious fragrance.
Smells really good and high quality as expected,it kinda reminded me of Black Orchid but not the same just hints of it.
Leaning a bit masculine but can be pulled off by the ladies as well.
FALL/WINTER Leaning more of a night time wear.
Love the bottle!

IAmStaka

This is what I imagine the Protoss race from Starcraft smell like :D
Any gamers out here?

violeteme

Very interesting and unique. Unisex, warm. Hard to break down separate notes, I'd say quite a lot of labdanum, cardamom, myrrh, incense. I think, ink is probably very much there, but it blends in and just adds a spice to the whole composition. I expected to get a leather scent as the title suggested, but was surprised. Not my style at all, but still nice. +

Kaylovely

I have to try this before purchasing Squid.

LIFEPHORM

Not really worthy considering the price and the looong good ingredients list...
I was expecting for something else, maybe more dense, more individualistic...
It turns into a nice fragrance, just after ~ one hour from the initial spray.
It sounds nice on "the paper", but not also on the skin. Too bad for it!

peter94

bdsm fragrance

Jbicanic89

This fragrance just hits differently. My wife over the course of the day kept asking me what I was wearing, to her surprise she said it changed unlike my other fragrances. The evolution from the opening to the dry down is just amazing. Definitely a top 10 fragrance in my collection.

Trendkill97

Citrus fruity up top, elusive, iris and cardamom come together in the mid with a green nuance probably from artemesia. There's a dark facet to it that slowly introduces itself, something sweet and vanilla-like in the dry down, creamy sandalwood, musk that is sweet and a touch of oceanic fresh ambergris. Masterfully blended scent, reminds me ever so slightly of a mix between the citrusy fruity sweet iris of HdP 1725, toned down sweet and spicy accord from Burberry's Amber Heath, and the gourmand crispy nature of Dulcis In Fundo by Profumum Roma. Unique, upscale, uncompromising quality again from SHL. 8/10

I don't know what it is, but any perfume that has iris in it automatically becomes an iris bomb on me, and this is no different, unfortunately. All I can smell is a bit of the ink note, and then that powdery iris note. Nothing else breaks through it. I'm disappointed!

Donkar

I sampled most of the stephane humbert lucas line via luckyscent and spent a while analyzing them.
The main things that are coming to my mind with Mortal Skin is that I like the opening, but it turns quite rapidly into a skin scent, and it strongly reminds me of Laudano Nero by Tiziana Terenzi. I heard this used to be powerful and the formulation lacks the performance it once had. My sample comes from lucky scent, so surely is authentic. I don't understand how could he charge so much for what it is. It is truly mind blowing as I don't see the sense here for spending +300$ for 50ml. The bottle looks gorgeous though.

mister_chaz

Musky, woody-spicy, powdery skin scent. Surprisingly, it's not a loud perfume at all. I do get and "ink"-like note. It's not particularly unique, but very pleasant and sensual. Fairly long-lasting, moderate projection.

cocofluff

The chilled blackberry opening is wonderful, but the drydown lets me down when it becomes sour leather, myrrh and oudy. -

Bubbles1964

Ink, incense and blackberries. Intriguing and weird—and a strong performer.

I think it’s hard to do something original, but that’s where I would file Mortal Skin. If you think you’ve smelled it all, or that there’s nothing new in the current market, give this odd bird a spin.

PS: Bottle design is over-the-top, hipster cool. Love that snake!

tessture

I wanted to love this one. The listed notes sound like my thing exactly. I got a sample and wow, it smells NASTY in the vial. I finally braved it on skin, and it’s better at first, being a mix of resin, green leaves, dark musk and wood chips. It dries down through a skin scent like musky sexy 70s woman, actually nice but heavy and ornate. Somehow though, it’s still too perfume-y for me. Most of dry down is clearly labdanum/cistus resin, which I adore, but the other notes stay bright enough to lift it out of base-resin territory and keep it closer to Loud Woman perfume. I wish I’d gotten inky blackberries, though. It’s a difficult perfume on my skin.

dr.dj

Beautiful bottle and fantastic perfume.

kateapple

A dichotomy of warm and chilly.

I was actually quite nervous to try this one. The reviews were crazy, the ink note was strange, and of course the bottle looks intimidating. However, it was much more subdued than I imagined. After smelling ink in another scent and disliking it, this one put some fear into me, but I was just too curious to resist.

This scent combines what I can only describe as a chilled blackberry with a warm myrrh. The blackberry almost feels like it's mixed with mint, but I think it's actually the ink note that's giving it an odd chill. Pair this with a gorgeous, resinous cloud of myrrh and the scent is unique for sure, but not necessarily unusual.

I don't find that this feel venemous or intimidating at all. I'm quite surprised at how well the blackberry/"ink" combo mixes with the myrrh...it doesn't feel too disjointed. You can still pick them out as two distinct vibes, though.

Like all other reviews of this, I don't think I can do this justice. It's not a matter of whether or not this is good, it's just a bit indescribable...but in a subtle way. I was not bombarded with a bizarre ink note, overly-sour berries, or sickly sweet resins. It's all quite subdued and intriguing.

If your interest has been piqued, try it. No review can convey exactly what this is like. I don't say this to hype it up as some ingenious work or masterpiece, it's just unlike any combination of notes I've smelled before, and I'm surprised that it works so well. It's worth trying at least once, just to see.

yaayyya

Not very pleasant, but intriguing, makes me want to return to it again and again. Smells like pencil shavings, very light, sweetish minty/grassy freshness, varnish, and saffron. Somewhat nutty and almondy too, but only a little bit. Very woody, sandalwood goes off scale here, which makes it more simple than it could be.  Beautiful notes are detectable only close to skin. There's an animalic undertone here, definitely, but very light. Overall it is quiet, smooth, sleek, catty. It will shine in winter around Christmas, when there's a lot of snow. It also requires a quality suit and delicate jewelry.

redboss

I'm sorry, little snake, but i just don't feel anything dark, sharp or poisonous. Or even something with good performance. Especially for that pile of money. I glad i just got the decant, not a bottle. Briefly, it's toothless, soft and close to the skin. Yes, it have some ink or berries or maybe even smoke - but in a very shy way. "Mortal skin"? C'mon - it's more like "little-pink-snake-want-to-be-scary-cologne". So disappointing.

Mark1996

This is what I imagine snake venom smelling like... I mean if it had a scent of course. A wonderfully dark and mysterious fragrance that is unique when compared to other dark-like fragrances.

It could be an hit or a miss type fragrance, Its an hit for me for sure. Leans more masculine in my opinion but I think the right woman could pull it off decently too.

W̶h̶o̶ What are you?

If Stephane Humbert Lucas told me that there's a real snake hidden inside Mortal Skin, I would believe him. The fragrance seems to shed skin and present a different side of itself each time I wear it.

Sometimes it opens with a beautifully dark and cold blackberry that is spiced up by cardamom, and dries down a wonderful buttery iris laying on a bed of myrrh and almond. This variation reminds me a little bit of Bois d'Argent and Rolling in Love.

And sometimes, it has a venomous and photorealistic opening of ink that is made even more bitter with artemisia, and dries down to a robust concoction of resinous opoponax with an animallic touch of a combination between musk and ambergris. This variation reminds me a little bit of Tobacco Oud.

A dark shadow of incense looms over the composition regardless of which variation decides to show itself that day.

Mortal Skin is what I consider to be my favorite type of estoric niche perfumery, where the artist creates a unique and engaging fragrance that will not only intrigue your olfactory senses, but also pleases them. That's what I love about Mortal Skin; is that all artistic merit aside, it smells GOOD. Unlike many other "niche" fragrances that think they are the pinnacle of innovation just because they reek of fecal oud and other novelty notes.

C-Sauce

I love this scent. It is perfect for a cool, quiet summer night. It is introspective, reclusive, silent.

It is “Mortal Skin,” after all, hence it is no surprise that it sits close to the skin. In this way, it is reminiscent of Hamlet’s line, “when we have shuffled off this mortal coil.” The scent’s composition suits the mood and subject of that soliloquy: “To be or not to be, that is the question.” The scent’s performance presents the same dilemma. It slips in and out of perception like a snake in the grass.

In moderate weather, the longevity is about 6-10 hours. It lasts on clothing for about 12 hours. The sillage is soft. Put it in an atomizer and bring it with you because the top notes are exquisite.

Cool blackberry mist over almond powder.

9/10- The scent of Maleficent.

Scent nature is Dark Fruity Balsamic (Clubbing category).
I'd use the words Alluring, Mysterious, and Poison to describe this scent.

100%, Maleficent would wear this, I'd actually expect this juice to be bottled within Dior's Poison.

Opoponax and Blackberry give the seductive sweetness which I find to be more mysterious than the Raspberry sweetness in Tuscan leather.

Mortal Skin might smell juvenile for men over 40 while still being suitable for women of all ages.

Note: The Inky note is quite discrete from the inkiness in Encre Noire, and the fragrance is not smoky but incensy which is more like an incense accord you smell from an ambient candle than burning actual incense.

AndySmellsGreat

Another amazing 777 concoction...

One of my favourite left field scents.

Sweet not too pungent ink/blood with a sweet damp grass...

I can imagine (actually have experienced) a snake living in a glass tank soiled with urine dead insects, damp humid greenery and dead tree limbs and the sickly sweet anamalic scent eminating creating an impression of an earthy den and a snake waiting to strike!

That’s what it represents when you know the packaging and the story.

When you don’t it comes across as a gorgeous somewhat dark sweet resinous syrupy ink with dark berry - slightly vanillic even (despite notes). Mysterious, animalac, dark and brooding on a male (something a well dressed gentlemanly vigorous vampire would wear). On a woman - gourmand, sultry, elegant - she’d be wearing a figure hugging dress and sensual and then like a Preying Mantis would sink her teeth into you during copulation. Think Eva Green in Dark Shadows.

Not for whimps - which is why Escoteric I guess has a problem with it. It’s borderline left field - phenomenal performance and a great bubble - the bottle design is also a statement deserving a place on your mantle as well. Don’t over analyse this though - for some this is will be just a gorgeous dark sweet gourmand.

mmcdonald36

This has a very similar vibe as Tom of Finland by ELDO. It has that kind of leathery latex smell in it. For people who like Mortal Skin but are on a budget, I recommend Tom of Finland

Pogue

This perfume is very intriguing, it really takes me somewhere. I got a sample of this because people said it was sexy in reviews. However, it smells like I opened an old dusty chest in my grandmothers house. Don’t get me wrong, it is a very intriguing fragrance, but ultimately smells like a dusty incense. My gf made me take it off after an hour because her head started to hurt.

F-matic

Finally got my hands on this one...

I smelled this one at a burger place in Brussels (a good friend brought his bottle along).
I was enjoying my burger & had 1 spray on my left arm (nothing groundbreaking just a hint of incense along blackberry i thought).

On my way home i couldn’t stop sniffing my arm & after 1 hour i realised that this is something i never smelled before.

This is truely an unique fragrance, it was since Bella Bellissima Tombee de la nuit that i was so surprised by an unique fragrance.

So far my personal thoughts on Mortal skin because i can’t realy describe this gem.
This perfume makes you happy, unique and intriges you because there is no other like this.

“This perfume reminds me of .....” this will stay blanc.
If anyone asks about the defenition of niche fragrance ... this masterpiece could be the only answer!

mystical journey into the afterlife...

Zeeshan777

Dark, inky and sensual.
Linear throughout, good sillage and long lasting. Perfect for those night outs where your really want all the attention.
Worth a try, and to mention the bottle is gorgeous.

marcel2782

Feels like a snake to the user who knows the proposal - if dont, it is picked up as a leathery-rubbery, weirdly dark and slightly sweet smell. Long after spraying, 1h or so, at mid-drydown, the smell feels like living tissue - kind of bloody open animal flesh. Very high quality stuff and VERY interesting, but very very odd and somewhat likely to become sickening/nauseating over repeated use, because it's too out there. The performance is not as strong as one may think, but average.

Smellofweather

Many stories were spun around it (not least by the designer himself;) Some people were even afraid to test .. ~ The power of scents, smells, more importantly: essential oils is undisputed.

If you think away all the legendary stuff from Mortal Skin, an absolutely beautiful fragrance remains (for me). The blackberry at the beginning is one of the best in the world and what follows is a mixture of incense / styrax / iris that changes a little and always fascinates me.

It fits perfectly in this cool, stormy time. So you always have the opportunity to catch a scent wave and to enjoy it. I find it extremely portable and I am so happy that it is a member of my "team" :-)

Oh .. ~ and I think it's no accident that it doesn't remember any other fragrance. I think it's unique ...

1Constantine1

This is one for the loquacious connoisseurs.
This is a nice office fragrance. It comes across slightly effeminate early to mid, amber vanilla becoming increasingly peppery with sandalwood and settling close to the skin. That's it.
Now , of course, if you look at the notes, you start thinking, wow! Of course! I can smell blackberry, iris, Myrrh, musk, how clever, I can really appreciate this.
However in the real world that is not what you will be thinking. In fact instead you will be crying with the knowledge you could smell a lot better for a lot less.
This is one for the Tate Gallery for the cognoscenti to admire in their own time at their own expense.
I have Nasomatto's Absinth on my other arm. Now you're talking! Expensive but unique great sillage and longevity and gives simple souls like me pleasure.

Fragrance: 4/10 considering the expense. Otherwise 6.5/10 at face value.
Projection: 6/10
Longevity: 8/10

Sometimes i even cant wear them, couse its too sexy. And of course- bottle is amazing. If u want to experience them- try them week in a row.. and u will see the power of this parfum. Its darker then the night..

landshark321

My first try from Stephane Humbert Lucas, but perhaps the house's best-known entry, Mortal Skin, is primarily a resinous fragrance, but with some interesting quirks.

Admittedly I didn’t think it would smell like skin, but through the semi-animalic resinous dominance of the fragrance, it does vaguely have that vibe. Some florals, the musk, and sandalwood bring the resins to a more comforting, semi-feminine place but there are other elements that frankly complicate the mix like blackberry, ink, and civet. So its center is the resin/wood/musk dynamic but it does veer off interestingly with almost a powdery lipstick mix, so it seems a little feminine on my skin, but I like it.

It’s not a huge performer, though, at least on me, and so at its pricing of $290 for 50ml is a bit steep as far as a full bottle. I’ll enjoy trying this some more but with resinous fragrance—though I love them—I can be pretty picky, and Mortal Skin in particular is a “like” not a “love” for me, at least for now.

Sex Magic by Christi Meshell all the way. Mortal Skin is different than anything I've experienced, but I still don't like it that much. Props on effort though.

YasGawd

It's weird. It's mysterious. It's a little bit filthy and a little bit angelic. It's like nothing before, no scent was ever even slightly similar to this one. I can smell the darkness, the passion of creating something beyond this planet beautiful.

This one makes me melancholy, because I keep sensing that there are wonderful things in there about to do something spectacular, but these fireworks lurk eternally out of reach ... there's something evanescent and elusive about every note, so I can't settle in and enjoy it. Could be an individual chemistry thing, but MY mortal skin seemed to first mute this down to a gently spiced powdery-wood with a few almost imperceptible sparks of iris ... didn't get the burst of blackberry or ink or darkness I was primed to expect ... and then I'd get the occasional waft of something wonderful every 10 minutes or so, but on burying my nose back to my wrist, it just wasn't there. Any trace of its loveliness entirely gone in 4h or so. So... not sure if I'm anosmic to it, or if it just doesn't perform on me, but this one was definitively NOT as billed. From the pyramid here I hoped for something rich, dark, almost boozily intoxicating, whereas Mortal Skin turned out to be a very subtle, adult, discreet performer. I worried I'd fall expensively in love with this one, but although I'm really glad to have tried it, am relieved to find that it's not meant to be. Unarguably a class act and a beautiful, complex scent if it works for you, though.

miracleborgtech

You are standing outside the Garden of Eden. The air is cool, and a slight breeze coming from inside is scented with the most amazing smell. The combination of liturgical incense and fruity wood is intoxicating. A glistening giant anaconda glides by on the ground, disturbing leaves on shrubs, and causing you to tremble with a mix of awe and fear. Your adrenaline spikes, and everything is brighter and more precious. Even the smell of your skin, still reacting to your scare is tantalizing. This is the experience of Mortal Skin. Awesome!

Your arsenal

Smells incredible and unlike any other scent I can think of.

StellaDiverFlynn

Mortal Skin is quite an abstract perfume on my skin. The notes blend and percolate through each other, that the smell as a whole, feels like an object exhibiting inflections of different notes. The evolution also takes place in a incremental manner, although three different phases can be distinguished on my skin.

The first 30 minutes of Mortal Skin is a chewy, almost chalk-like musk to my nose, with abstract berry sweetness and clean "ozonic" feeling lifting the fragrance up without actually smelling like marine or ozonic elements, which is probably the "ink" referred to in the note list.

The woody elements then become stronger with time, as well as the berry sweetness turns more sugary in parallel. There is also an almost oily creamy resin undertone and a saffron-like bitter fruitiness. The combined effect of musky, resinous and slightly inky wood and sweet berries, actually strongly reminds me of the synthetic oud dry down in certain western brands.

Like many western "oud" fragrances, Mortal Skin turns drier towards the dry down, but thankfully not as harsh as a few overdosed by woody amber aromachemicals. A simultaneously balmy, date-like and cool, mineral myrrh also comes to rescue, which makes a sweet balsamic berry skin scent with an interesting bitter twang.

Mortal Skin stays mostly close to skin and lasts about at least 9 hours.

I find it interesting that Mortal Skin is not as heavy as the note list suggests, which allows me to enjoy the fragrance even though I'm not so keen on occidental "oud" and sweet berry in general. But it also leaves me somewhat underwhelmed by this overall nebulous trail, especially at this price. If you happen to be looking for a soft, sweet "oud" and myrrh fragrance and has less limit on budget, Mortal Skin might be a contender, but I would otherwise hesitate to recommend it due to its price and accessibility.

magneto78

The opening was sublime but 10 minutes in, the pepper and cumarin are kind of choking me out. Let’s see how this progresses.

mrsg34

Stephane does modern oriental fragrance fantastically and this is another one of them, I’m shocked at all the hate in some of the reviews. I find his perfumes wear YOU as oppose to you wearing them, they come and go throughout the wearing and the ones that I have tested or bought are not obtrusive, including this one. I get at the start an inky blackberry aroma that does hit you first off, then it settles down on me to an earthy, woodsy aromaand although not listed I get a hint of a nutmeg aroma. All the while the blackberry ( toned down from the first blast) sits in the background and with the styrax and wormwood combine to create a very melancholic feeling. Marvellous.

PlatinumBlonde

I recently tested this and asked my friend to describe this. To him, it smells like Fabuloso (cleaning solution) dissolved in mop water and "chalky like Necco wafers".

gtabasso

I do not get these notes at all! To my nose without looking here first when I deconstructed it in my mind I get something that at first smells like a very light and soft westernized oud with light, sharp florals underneath supporting it, something gourmand is in there that makes it sweet then it dries down to tanned leather.

THE FOUR 1111

I'm really liking this one. It's really familiar and different at the same time as another reviewer mentioned. It reminds me of d&g the one and Mugler pure wood but doesn't really smell like either. To me it is a bit linear, starting off just a bit moist and finishing off just a bit dry. I don't get blackberry or ink (not that I really know what ink is supposed to smell like) but I do get something milky and powdery and dark. This part reminds me of Odin #10 but without the coconut. I get incense and spice and wood too, this makes it feel more masculine than unisex. It smells classy too. There is just the tiniest bit of sweetness as well. Definitely for the evening imo. Now the one thing that is really impressing me is the longevity with the just the right amount of silage; 6 - 8 solid hours before it settles and 18+ on the skin if you don't wash it off. If nothing else it's worthy of sniff.

Elvaro

Honestly, I can't smell darkness or sin from this. Literally what comes to mind are iris or rose (which is not mentioned) and ink. This rose is "genderless" It's balsamic as well. It gives you strange feeling, cause it's different and familiar at the same time. It's not for everyone, but can find some fans. I need more testing for an ultimate marks, but for now:
SMELL: 6,5 - 7/10
PROJECTION: 6,5/10
LONGEVITY: 7/10

Tho bottle, and sprayer are top notch, though.

picknenders

This has an avant gard feel to it. The use of ink, incense and blackberry feels like a Bertrand dechefuer (sorry - no idea how to spell his name). It's a dark smell. I don't find it fresh at all. It is appealing to me in the way it plays off the contrast between sweet and bitter. Similar to the Lartisan Amour Nocturne

Literal and primary definition of "bestiality":

"savagely cruel or depraved behaviour"

The secondary meaning is sexual intercourse between human and animal.

Given the context in which the word has been used, the editor/copy writer for the perfume clearly intends its use to infer the primary - not secondary - definition.

rbalkris

A mysterious and evocative perfume designed to evoke a snake like feel. It begins with a note of ink, leather and blackberry which dries down to reveal notes of styrax, opoponax, cardamom, iris, sandalwood, myrrh, cedar, birch, ambergris, and civet. This unisex perfume with moderate to strong sillage and longevity needs an adventurous and open mind to appreciate the interplay of dark animalic and somewhat lighter woody light spice notes. The feeling created is right on - a mysterious, slithery, viper nestled among the forest vines. Enjoy!

SuzanneS

Mortal Skin.

Stephane Humbert Lucas can be counted on to provide intrigue, masterful blending and a story.

I love this opening of sweet blackberry ink and rock rose reminiscent of the amber used in O'Hira. The incense and myrrh swirl around to add interest yet something is familiar. The polished cold-sweet iris rises in the heart much like Iris Fauve by Atelier des Ors.

The slight forest like apparition reminds me of Galaad by Lubin when it is in its woody myrrh notes. There is a leathery nuance, and ambergris marine note as well keeping this dark, cool, smooth, animalic and supple.

The notes could suggest a heavy beast however the delivery is light, lithe and clean. I suppose its because the synthetics are wielded very adeptly in this story. Out of all the fragrances mentioned..Mortal Skin rises above them all for me in terms of wear ability. Silage is light to moderate, an exemplary fruity iris woody oriental. Longevity is excellent. Sexy Intrigue in a bottle. If you want something unique, artistic and wearable.. Mortal Skin.

RozzerX

I have tried alot of fragrances but this one just blown me away with its performance, all I can say this is a projection beast. Scent is masculine unique, smoky and well crafted. Best to be used as a signature scent. Can be worn in all seasons. Mostly for formal events/dating etc

Tapinview

I deleted my initial, disappointed scathing review, whereupon I had lavishly applied from my sample and couldn't smell anything! But I must have been having an anosmic day....It is actually a soft sweet floral Incense starting faintly with a chalky vague berry with what I perceive as a nutty note as used in Tom Fords Noir Femme and underlies the new Angel Muse. Those two are sweeter and not as iris-y. However, the big but is, you get real quality with persistence and projection in those two mainstream perfumes for your $€£. I went to a couple of sites because it is an unusual pretty perfume despite its shy performance and nearly fainted at the price of the Mortal Skin. I used to think TF and SL were expensive!

SumoTigerCat

My husband writes calligraphy at times, and he always uses a fountain pen for general writing. One of the inks that he uses is a brand “Iroshizuku”. The colors are rich; the ink is smooth. The bottles are simple and elegantly beautiful. When I wear Mortal Skin, I think of the darkest colors of this ink.

A kind member sent me a sample of Mortal Skin quite some time ago. I was smitten, but the price at that time was something that I’d only spend on a rare Guerlain… maybe. So, for many months, I kept stalking online sites with a wild hope of finding one I might afford. As good fortune would have it, another member with whom I’ve traded several times had an almost full, with total presentation bottle for trade. I hemmed and hawed, and cursed. She kindly accepted my trade offer of a very HTF bottle. I sighed a bit, and then danced for joy!

Mortal Skin is not similar to the other Stéphane Humbert Lucas fragrances that I’ve tried. In my opinion, this is the nicest one. Unique in its’ stark beauty. I adore the ink note that underlies the scent throughout its’ wearing. If there were such a thing as Blackberry Ink, this would be it. The other notes that talk to me are the myrrh, incense, artemisia (yes, a faint whiff of absinthe), and cardamom. I wouldn’t be surprised that ambergris contributes to the mix by joining everything together beautifully.
I find MS to be a serene, peaceful scent that speaks with an Asian tone. Sillage is moderate, but definitely noticeable, dry down is long-lasting and mesmerizing. The bottle speaks for itself…

I hope I never empty my bottle.

minag

Mortal Skin is an olfactory journey like no other. The opening feels like entering a slick, black cave filled with bats or snakes. The ink is cold, silky smooth, and addictive. The ink gives way to an almost religious experience with the strongly incense-y middle notes - a comforting, warm incense. And at the end, Mortal Skin turns soft, sweet, and woody.

Stephane Humbert Lucas has certainly created an interesting experience with Mortal Skin. And while I appreciate and admire this experience, it isn't something that I will crave to recreate on a regular basis, so I will satisfy myself with my sample vial. I'm just glad that my skin was able to bring out the full 3 acts of this "play."

Perhaps I would appreciate it more on a man than myself. The wood and incense is a bit too masculine for me to wear with confidence. Beautiful and enchanting nonetheless.

Scent - iris, myrrh & incense.

Season/Time of Day - I prefer to use this one in the colder months, day or night.

Projection - I did get noticed, I didn't get a compliment.

Longevity - I get 8hrs consistently.

Opens up very inky, leathery with a smoky undertone. It envelops you in a witchy, poisonous aura, it really stands out for its name.
One of the most original perfumes that I've ever tried, very dense, deep and hypnotising.

Mystical, hypnotic and powerful! beautiful its evolution, beginning with a powerful note of ancient incense, followed by a well-known of this ink and blackberry... the initial phase drags you with him .... after a couple of minutes continues enigmatic transformation. Fragrance impact, cold and captivating! Beautiful fragrance,to try and find out...this one stands out a lot. In the bottom it evolves slowly, as does a snake while the strip, goes slowly towards a base almost "rubbery"..the incense note is always there, very nice!! The sillage is great, very good longevity! Sry to go OT but ink?

PurseJunkie

The opening is wonderful with a leathery, resinous smell overlaid by serious blackberry. There's a bit of stemmy-greenness, too, as befits a blackberry patch, and a lovely clay-like scent as well. The blackberry is wonderfully fruity without being childish. I’ve tried this perfume half a dozen times now, and I find this phase lasts anywhere from 15 to 90 minutes, depending on the day and my luck. Some days I get unlucky and get almost no blackberry at all, though the resin/clay is always there, if perhaps briefly.

After that it devolves into a pleasant, but not terribly interesting floral. Unfortunately, this is something I’ve found all too common with 777 scents (Black Gemstone, O Hira and especially Qom Chilom): an amazing opening with a questionable follow-through. If they were selling at drugstore/Demeter prices (or if I were a much wealthier woman) I’d be happy enough to them in bulk and spend all day respraying myself, but at six bucks a milliliter I need them to do better, longer.

Q80

I love Stephane's creations and his amazing house beside his superb personality and humbleness.

Now this fragrance is one of his fragrances that i like the least maybe although the bottle & the name of this perfume is superb in away that makes me wanna love it but i can't because the liquid doesn't describe neither the name nor the bottle. I can't smell the ink as i can in Notturno by "Meo Fusciuni" but i can smell the rest which are the cardamom, incense, Blackberry, Myrrah, etc.. but i can't relate the smell to that mortal poisonous skin of a snake! to be honest i would relate this bottle and name to Cuir Venenum by "Parfumerie Generale" at best.

I can't put this fragrance down because it is made by Stephane the great who made an evolution in perfumes by creating the amazing "Nur" & "Soleil De Jeddah". & all i can say is that i like this one the least and i would request Stephane to re-consider this bottle & name to something more related.

Edit (29th Jan 2017) It's more of a spicy incense, myrrah, opoponax, birch, and above them all is the styrax. It is earthy a bit with hint of cacao powder as well and the blackberry note adds the synthetic effect and the slightly metallic note. It remains unpleasant to me comparing it to it's name, bottle, and his other fragrances.

It is a good perfume for both genders. The most beautiful perfume I ever tried of this house. Deep, mysterious and ethereal. Lovely. I don't think I'll ever get fed up with it.
This is one of the most beautiful ink base fragrance i have ever smelled.
balsamic and woody
The projection is good.
The longevity is well.
It really smells awesome.

Profumo complicato, caleidoscopico, intenzionalmente confuso.
Inusuale e costosissimo.

O.K with much trepidation I awaited for this to be launched and sent to me. No samples were available then. I can now see the merit of why. This would have meant I would not have ever bought this. All I can say I have paid £160 for a bottle!
If you have read the descriptives of this; “1st Act: The perfume, languid and colourful, hypnotises me, I am facing two eyes that desire me. Leafy coolness, fruits, the magic of the encounter, The seduction begins.
It goes on with even more pretentiousness with a second and third act. There should be a fourth ACT and that is the act act of Highway robbery. It takes you money and the seduction acts, into the gallows of the hangman, for you have just realised you have been mugged. All this smells like a corner store Indian Grocery, where Mr Patel has a small Statue of Laxmi the Goddess of wealth, and burning Incense and offering sickly sweets. I am doing my own ritual to Lord Shiva, the destroyer with the antidote for the aptly placed fangs on the bottle, which I am the guinea pig.
5TH act place on ebay and get rid!

Absolute rubbish!
