Stella by Stella McCartney is a Floral fragrance for women. Stella was launched in 2003. The nose behind this fragrance is Jacques Cavallier.

Stella McCartney: “I showed an old-time picture of a rose to a designer. Just imagine a luxurious flower, heavy and beautiful; its petals fall off just by your gentle touch. I would love to keep this frail beauty, this moment of perfection in the perfume.” The designer of the perfume is the famous Jaques Cavallier. No matter the reputation of rose perfumes as old-fashioned, Stella, with her classical retro chic, stands apart from the batch of new perfumes and attracts attention with her peculiarity. In the top notes there are rose oil, peony and a gentle touch of fresh tangerine. In the heart of the perfume there is rose, whose gentle scent is emphasized by the deep note of amber in the base. The perfume was made in 2003.

I've been using Stella since it first came out. I've gone through many bottles. I still have one full roller ball and a spit in another from the roller ball box set. When it was still being produced I got my hands on the largest bottle. A few years back I also grabbed it on the Marshalls website for $65+, must have been the phase out. I'm stocked for now. It's the only perfume that doesn't bother me. I've smelled tons of perfumes looking for a dupe and have never smelled anything similar. Never. I hope one day it comes back 😞

For anyone looking for a replacement , check out Divine Spirituelle, its really close!!!

This is a classic tea rose fresh and cool, (rather than an opulent Damascus rose).
I am astonished that people say this is discontinued and hard to find (?).
I found a wholesaler who sold me 30x 30 ml size edp at a good price.
If anyone is interested please message me.

Oh Stella. How I miss you. I have wonderful memories attached to this perfume of my first big love and all the excitement that came with it. Spraying myself ready to see him. This is fresh and tangy on first spray and then floral and feminine. It is the perfect rosy scent and although Fleur Fatale is similar, this balances the rose aspect so beautifully. No-one would dislike this. It’s a crowd pleaser. Unfortunately, you can no longer buy it unless you’re willing to pay a fortune on eBay. I have a dupe of it now by Eden but it lasts 15 minutes and it’s gone, hence I’ve been layering with Fleur Fatale to get some boost from it. I asked the company if they would bring back their perfume line alas to no avail. For me, Stella was a winter scent when I first got it in Dec in the 00s but it could be better suited to the spring (although I think it’s pretty damn versatile).

vanillaflower4

Stella McCartney won't bring this back... So let's all email dupe houses like Dossier and Montagne Parfums to make a perfume that is similar. I've had great experience with both and the dupes they make are sometimes spot on. They only make dupes of popular perfumes tho so if enough people ask them, they will make them!

veronica9p

I miss Stella so much! One perfume to rule them all! Perfect for everyday, any season, any occasion. Pleasant. Sophisticated. Subtle. Not too floral. Not too sweet. Just right. If I didn't know what to wear, Stella was always a suitable choice. So bummed it's been discontinued. Seems like all the greats get discontinued or reformulated at some point -_-

Willing to swap my backups (1.7oz and 3.4oz) for any of the unicorns on my "Want" shelf. CONUS

khent.em

The most beautiful and realistic rose. This was a rose fragrance done right, and the one I reached for when in the mood for rose fragrance.

Bright. Fresh. Clean. Peony-Forward. Captivating.
Longevity: 6/10
Sillage: 7/10

Perfect10Tara

It's floral, it's a little bit woodsy, it's sophisticated, it's beautiful. All my friends wore this and so did I. For a while it was our signature scent. Stella McCartney was so cool at the time. I just looked at her website. She's still cool!

RottigrlNYC

Does anyone have a decant for sale? Maybe 5-10ml. Please message me. Or we can swap. Check my list, I have a lot of perfumes

Sparkleball22

I’m very aware that I’m hoarding this. I have half a 1 Oz bottle and rarely spray it now that I know it’s going away. What to do?
Fall in love with another rosey amber perfume that’s the most sultry yet sort of refreshingly sweet perfume ever created? That lasts on your skin creating a magical sillage….
I’ll be scouring the planet for a replacement if/when I ever use mine up. Thanks to those who made suggestions for similar scents.
I may try them? But tbh I don’t believe you… 🤣😭

Wristsniffer

For anyone looking for a replacement, check out Diptyque's Eau Capitale. Not an identical match, but quite close. It brings back memories of the years when I wore Stella, so it has my brain fooled anyway.

thaochipnd

It's so beautiful! Red Roses are drenched in morning dew, as fresh and real as if they had just showered in the rain and were picked from the garden. And I am smelling the wonderful fragrance of those crimson petals. The purple bottle design is full of mystery, the scent is extremely romantic and luxurious, portraying a picture of a Red Rose garden swaying in the cool rain. Occasionally, petals smell like green tea, but in fact they are crimson Roses. It also reminds me of the image of a Red Rose in the dark, mysterious and seductive. I think it's a Bulgarian Rose, crimson red and with a passionate scent. A Rose that is both bright and dark, a scent that is both classic and modern, something very special from a seemingly unspecial perfume like Stella.

This is the perfect perfume for Rose lovers, it's a shame it has been discontinued. Maybe I'll learn to give it up gradually, when the last bottles of Stella left on the market are about to run out.

Rating: 8.5/10, amazing Rose scent

Scentfrommanna

I have to say this is one of the ultimate rose perfumes for me, it’s very clean, modern and fresh. I was so sad when it was discontinued!

The longevity and sillage were never brilliant on me though, although I don’t think this was designed to be beast mode. However, the Eden perfume dupe for this is great, smells spot on, and although the longevity and sillage are much the same, because it’s so cheap and easy to buy online I just overspray. Would recommend this dupe to anyone not willing to pay £200 on eBay.

missliberia

I first smelled this in the October 2004 Elle Magazine with Beyoncé on the cover and it rocked me. I was in college - a freshman and as soon as I got my big girl job in 2008 I bought the 3.4 and 1.7 oz at Sephora. This is just superb. A lush rose fragrance that is ambery and indulgent but ver sophisticated. I love this sooooo. Still have some of my 1.7 oz I think I will wear it this week.

ingenpen

The most beautiful and elegant rose. It is just chef's kiss perfection. Adore. 🩷

I had to come here because I stumbled upon my rollerball of OG formula Stella last night while cleaning. I forgot how much I loved this perfume. I found it at a time where I was into very “dirty” and heavy fragrances. This was such a departure for me. I have no clue what it smells like today but the original (which I also had a full sized bottle of) what so beautiful. It was warm ambery golden rose at its best, lightened by a tiny floral citrus. Rose can be tricky for me, but in this perfume it just fit. I remember how my sweaters would smell in the evenings after spritzing this on before work early morning. Sadly there is not enough left for even one wear so I will have to be content with a sniff here and there. I’m glad that there is a place where a weirdo like me who keeps perfumes to “just smell” for the sake of the memories can share. Thank you all and thank you Stella. I didn’t realize how much I missed you.

MediaevalWench

My daughter loves the original Stella and it always smelt lovely on her. I wanted to buy her a bottle but after smelling the tester - no way. It was very disappointing.
Last year I kept seeing Divain being advertised. They had big discounts so I gambled and ordered 13 bottles of all my past favourite including 2 of Stella. When I first sprayed it my daughter asked if I was wearing Stella - spot on! It really is lovely. I was very pleased with all the ones I bought. I've reordered Pure Poison twice as it is excellent.

Miss boudoir

I first smelled the original Stella when it was first released in England. It is an homage of Stella McCartney to her mother Linda McCartney who was a free spirit, photographer and musician.

This perfume was made to be appreciated in open spaces. When I first smelled it I was living in a tiny room and I could not fully appreciate it.

Years later, I tried it again and this perfume is really interesting. It's a real shame that Stella McCartney due to her so called 'environmental' concerns has stopped her perfume production depriving the people that used to love this perfume of buying it at reasonable prices and a broader availability, today.

The perfume is based on a melancholic dark red/ purple rose dancing with accords of peonies. I would say it smells very much like home garden deep red roses.

I wish I had a sample of the vintage Stella to bring back these wonderful memories 😄😍

FlowerSeeker

I have the reformulation. It’s a very pleasant rose floral. However, it fades away almost as soon as it’s on my skin. I like it though! A great bedtime scent.

ShmellyC

Stella, how I miss you. The freshest woody rose, everrrrrrrr. I still have my last bottle, there's like 10 sprays left in it, I have no idea why I just didn't use the last of it and throw the bottle away. But there it sits, next to all of these other fragrances, that just can't replace her. I wish Stella would bring this fragrance back, at least just this one.

AngelaDevine

This is the most beautiful rose scent .they captured an amazing scent but I say with a sad heart there's no lasting .one hr and it's completely gone .so that was very disappointing.but while the scent is on the skin for that hourish it's amazing.its all about a beautiful rose .

Melody Valentine

I've never owned this and don't remember ever smelling it but I see people mentioning it all the time on clone company posts and the reviews here seem to be pretty positive. For people who are gutted that it's discontinued I'd really recommend getting a clone, not a different perfume that smells similar, an actual dupe from somewhere like Eden, Divain, Perfume Parlour etc. You can definitely get this one from Eden, I've seen it on their site. For £15 to £30 it's worth trying. I was dead against clones til the past few years when they got really good.

Oh Stella,

I cannot say enough about this perfume. It is and will forever be a favorite of mine. The perfect amount of rose and amber, such a delectable sent that is not overpowering. Great for all seasons, any event, anything. This is THE one, so so sad this is discontinued. I am clutching to my bottle for life.

Veracruz

🥀This beauty was THE ONE for me. First floral I ever liked and first rose I ever liked. Before Stella I found florals, especially rose, too mature smelling and too “perfumy” But Stella was sensual, sexy, elegant, mysterious and unforgettable. The scent was almost like a rich rose wine with that beautiful deep warm amber base that made the scent blend in perfectly with our natural scent. I was in love with her and so was everyone else, the compliments I received while wearing her were something else. It would last forever and get more beautiful in the dry down, this on hair was a secret weapon! The fragrance would melt into my skin and become part of my own scent.

I’ll never forget her because I was detained once while wearing her 😆😅 (long story but it was my ex boyfriends fault) everyone at the jail kept mentioning how good I smelled, and when I got out the next day, my brand new bottle had disappeared from my belongings! It was never returned to me, a brand new 3.4oz of the original formula.

Im so bummed the newer formulation is not comparable- it’s soapy, sharp and lacks the depth original Stella had. I actually have 2 bottles of the old formula but sadly they don’t smell the same as they used to. Maybe I stored them wrong or maybe florals just don’t age as well? especially when they contain more natural ingredients. I keep on searching for a replacement- Juliette has a gun doesn’t have the realness or depth, it’s too chemical smelling. If anyone knows of something similar please let me know! Doesn’t have to smell exactly the same, just have the same vibe of melting into you and becoming part of your natural scent. I long for something that can become my signature once more!

suzanne_ronald

Contemporary Classic ROSE. Velvety lush rose scent opening with a floral burst of rose with citrus touches from mandarin, that deepens into a rosy heart with velvety, whipped, & balsamic touches, resting on an amber base The rose is slightly MiddleEastern, and has a fluffy, whipped quality with body, and maybe a faint trace of spice & patchouli (not listed). Overall I get a Tea-rose/Taif-rose blend with a velvety whipped quality and a slight shampoo vibe in the drydown, with pencil shavings on the skin. Above average performance.

Contrast to Oscar Rose Oscar de la Renta:
These are different but I can see why they have been compared. With Stella I get a Tea-rose/Taif-rose leaning more shampoo-like and with Oscar Rose I get a Taif-rose leaning luxury whipped body cream. With Stella, in the drydown I also get soapiness and a faint pencil shaving note on the skin that I don't smell in Oscar Rose.

Overall: Absolutely beautiful & versatile scent profile with above average performance, this is the perfect scent to wear for a modern classic vibe. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

Pleasant and well done rose. I’m glad I still have some in my collection. I was sad to find out that they discontinued this.

FlowerPower12

This was hands down one of my favourite if not favourite scent of all time. Wish it wasn't discontinued. It was so dreamy, comforting, timeless, and elegant.
I miss you stella.

paopao

Stella was my signature scent when I was in my early 20's, in college, becoming my own woman. So it definitely holds a special place in my heart. I was devastated when it was discontinued and even more upset with myself for tossing my last bottle in the trash. Would've loved to have kept it for memory's sake. I came on to say though that the other day I sampled Memo Paris French Leather and was instantly taken aback, It reminded me so much of Stella I couldn't believe it. I promptly ordered a 10ml and each and every time I wear it, it takes me back to my Stella era. I don't know if it's a dupe/ alternative for all but to me, there definitely is a resemblance, at least from my memory.

violetelle

Devastated I never got to try this 💔

Alice3

Stella will always be my absolute true love. I'd cry if it returned and I'm not ashamed to say that. It's beautiful. Complex. Timeless. Radiant.

LavenderDreams

Ah, Stella, you lovely thing you. So elegant, so feminine, so romantic. This is hands-down the most alluring rose fragrance I’ve ever come across, and I’ll never understand why it was discontinued!

Update: Oct 19, 2023
I've finally gotten around to comparing this with the reformulated version side-by-side and have included my full review under the reformulated version's page.

Version Comparison TLDR;
This version is lighter, softer in scent, longevity is way shorter. Re-formulated version has a darker, woodsier, slightest perceptible hint of soapiness, which tips that version towards the direction of Rose Absolute, whereas this version is fresher and leans more towards the lightness of the Sheer flankers.

Original Review:
Stella, oh Stella, my one true love. She first came into my life sometime between 2012-2013 (thankfully, right before the reformulation), and I remember going through a few bottles of the 100ml within this timeframe. I loved it so much, I still remember saying to myself that I want to bathe in it. I was working in the beauty industry at that time, so I was surrounded by all of the latest and most popular fragrances. Yet, nothing compared to my dear Stella. Whenever I have Stella on, I feel beautiful, feminine, sensual, mysterious, slightly distant, yet sweet and warm at the same time. Embedded into this fragrance is my first foray into the exploration of my own womanhood.

I feel like what we deem as our signature scent ought to reflect the totality of our entire selves, even the parts of ourselves that have yet to be discovered. Stella is this for me. She is all that I am, and I am all that she is, even down to the design of the bottle. Full-spectrum, from light (crystal clear) to dark (amethyst). Simple, yet structured, all shrouded in an air of mystery. To even attempt to reduce my relationship with Stella down to words feels so utterly crude, but here we find ourselves on this platform, to share our experiences with each other, right?

Now, why do I love Stella so? Firstly, when I wear fragrances, I want to feel beautiful. I want to feel sensual. I want to bask in, be surrounded by, and be reminded of my femininity whenever I get a whiff of her. It's that simple. I do not want to smell delicious, like a breezy tropical drink, or like a complex conundrum. It is because of this reason that I do not like fragrances that are overtly sweet or delicious-smelling. Perhaps you can call me a gourmand non-lover, but this dislike for sweetness also translates to florals. With Stella, the sweetness is always in the background, never overt (thank you amber basenote; side note--my skin loves amber). As a matter of fact, none of the notes are overt on me.

@cstands, in her review from 2016 perfectly described the interplay of the notes:

"I admire perfumes that manage to take a few simple notes and blend them so masterfully that, while they each portray a lead role, neither can be detected in isolation. The entire perfume would falter if one note went amiss - it seems that the strength of each individual note is enhanced by the support of the others. The romantic femininity of the rose, the lighter, greener, uplifting peony note, the fresh, sweet hint of mandarin and the sensual base of amber"

The longevity, projection, and sillage of this original formulation is shorter on me compared to the reformulated version. I think I can classify the reformulated edition as beast. However, I still get about 5-6 hours of this fresh yet mysterious rose/peony interplay, then it begins its fade into a skin scent with the amber coming to the forefront for the rest of the day, so a total of around 10-11 hours with one spray on each pulse point. Not bad.

All hail the Queen.

Patricia353, its not at all

Just listened a yt video that tells nirvana white is a dupe for this!!

Sniffathon

Oh how I miss you Stella! My OG signature scent when I was twenty-something. I’ve tried to find alternatives and have come very close, but they still fall just shy of Stella’s majesty. JHAG Miss Charming comes close but with the inclusion of musk sticks and berries. Diptyque Eau Rose EDP comes close but with greenness from artichoke and chamomile. Both beautiful fragrances in their own right. But Stella reigns number 1.

silverlocusts

Beautiful dewy rose with a hint of something more lingering beneath. The combo of rose and peony juxtaposed against amber and just a dash of pepper is pretty clever, which I think is what made this perfume so iconic. It is such a shame that it went the way of the buffalo, because it really was unique and likely ahead of its time. I think a lot of people remember this as only a rose perfume, but it really does have more nuance than that. Rose is the thing that stands out certainly, but the amber in the base is what makes it linger unlike any other rose-forward fragrance of its day. I tried this yesterday just after smelling Miss Charming from JHAG, and the rose oil/rose note is the same, but the base is completely different. The analogy I would make is that Stella is a lovely rose-printed spring dress from a bespoke boutique and Miss Charming is a similarly printed frock off the rack from Macy's. I think the staying power of Stella is ultimately what makes it so much better than Miss Charming. Diptyque also uses the same rose scent in Eau Rose and Eau Captiale, and for my buck those two are much more similar to the original 2003 Stella than Miss Charming. I went through several bottles in the early 00s and I still have a rollerball that is from no later than 2010, so I feel like I have a good frame of reference. If you want something that will remind you of Stella, by all means go for Miss Charming. If you want something to actually replace Stella, go with Eau Rose in the EDT. If you want an even more luxurious Stella experience, choose Eau Rose EDP. If you are, like me, a little more sophisticated in your scent choices now and want Stella that has also grown up gracefully, go with Eau Capitale. Miss Charming is just going to leave you wanting.

PerfumePixie87

I was 16 when this perfume was released in 2003. I owned a bottle and wore it, but it was not a smell that resonated with me. A watery rose that was cool in temperature with green facets. I remember being very attracted to the vintage decanter contours of the bottle and it's slightly moody purple ombré hue. It smelled like a damp springtime garden floral for an English rose. Unsurprisingly, given Stella's past at the helm of Chloé, it was reminiscent in style of the Chloé fragrances; soft, feminine, bohemian and British. Upon reflection I think I was too young to appreciate this scent and the wrong demographic entirely. I have Mediterranean looks and always loved warm amber and patchouli scents. It is a shame when these cult classics are discontinued, I'd love to smell it again now that I'm older and see what feelings and memories it conjures up for me. Yet, I still think the bottle was a fantastic design and I suspect the juice still would not be my cup of tea.

candi_n_spice

I recently found an older sample of this, and just tried it. It's a beautiful rose, and not much else, but that's ok because it does the one thing well. It does smell like a rose in full bloom. Neither particularly green or spicy. Glad it's not green, but my very favorite rose is the deep spicy type. It's still great, slightly sweet. I'm sure the orange and amber are there, but I'm really just smelling a realistic rose flower. Nothing super attention getting, but it's elegant and pretty. You don't often find something quite so simple. The resale prices at hundreds of dollars are too much, but I can see why it's loved.

Annelieva

Stella, Stella, my eternal love, Stella. Oh how I miss you! I’ve been on a quest to find your heir ever since you got discontinued, resulting in a massive fragrance collection. But nothing compares to you. You made me fond of perfumes with rose notes, but no perfume has your perfect rose note. I have 20 ml. left of you, and I will guard you like my greatest treasure until the day you come back again.

gretta

This was beautiful. I had the little bottle that looked like a faceted amethyst gem. I remember the lid was really difficult to take off but if i twisted it just right it would come off. Anyway, I am always always looking for this perfume. I thought I found it in Elizabeth & James Nirvana Rose, but the longevity is terrible. Has anyone found one similar to Stella but with longevity? It was so beautiful!

sitingqueen

This is a review of the 2003 version; dark shading on the glass bottle. Mine was manufactured in Spain. Climate controlled. I see very high prices for this in the hundreds of dollars range. With respect to all who are passionate about it, I believe better options with better performance are available at a lesser price.
This is a very nice soft rose fragrance. I can vaguely discern the peony and mandarin orange after 10 minutes. On me it is basically a soliflore. Longevity is about 2 hours and sillage is poor, although of course both can be remedied by reapplication. Office friendly and suitable for social occasions with close contact with others. A nice date fragrance.

stacia79

Unparalled rose fragrance that is greatly missed. The story here is that Stella McCartney told perfumers that she wanted to recreate the scent of a red rose pressed and dried between the pages of a book. I believe they succeeded for this is unlike other rose fragrances. Rose, peony, tangerine and amber. It's so stunning I had to buy my own bottle. There is enough bright peony to keep the roses crisp and fresh smelling. There is something about it that is retro yet modern all at once. It is not a sweet rose, but a salty dry rose. It definitely has mystery! There is the feeling of a whispered secret, a hidden treasure. I love catching a whiff of this in the cold winter air. Most of the time it stays very close to my skin. This is not the perfume for a typical 9 to 5 working girl. It is for the artista.

angelxcx

I have a full bottle for SWAPS/ TRADE only in the UK, message me for more info.

Simple classic rose and amber, I miss it

Aditya chatterjee

I bought this for my mom and she likes it. This is not light smooth rose🌷 fragrance but its kind of some dark deep roses which seems too densed but at the same time soothing your nose and rich in its own character.🥀🥀🥀

Longivity is impressive (upto 5 hrs) but siliage is not.

Pat_Chouli

I've just fallen in love with this scent. Something in my nose changed because six months ago this was too sharp, but now it's the perfect uncomplicated rose perfume to me. A deep red rose scent for sure, not light pink rose petals, but the entirety of a dark red rose that has begun to lilt from the weight of itself. Absolutely refreshing and naturally sweet floral frag. A rose like this is nature's perfect perfume. What a shame it's been discontinued.

Cupcake11

A stunning classic, that's already missed by many...

Beautiful composition of clean roses with a warm dew of amber drops on an early spring day...this is what I get from Stella. I've gotten through bottles years and years ago, but stopped wearing after I ran out of my last bottle and only wished I gotten backups.

Still don't understand how they could've discontinued the beloved Stella...

KristiLuvs4

I am so said this has become so impossible to find or insanely expensive. I am lucky to of found a roller ball. This is one of my all time FAV rose scents. It is not a dusty rose, but a simple clean elegant rose scent.

Tavetik

I miss this one so much and I can only find it super overprised on ebay. Why did they discontinue such an amazing fragrance :( so sad and I can’t find anything quite like it

PaperInABook

I blind bought this gem after seeing several positive reviews in YouTube. Immediate fall in love in first sniff! This is a watery-rose type of scent. Very clean, light, simple and easy to wear for any occasion. It's different compare to other rosey perfume I have which comes with a mix of several different flowers and complicated. (Except Chopard Love, one of my favourite with heavy musky rose scent. Just 1 flower type - rose, nothing else)

I managed to get a 30ml bottle from a local online seller. It's very rare and difficult to find in my country. Have to use it wisely.. I'll definitely repurchase this.

ShadowCliff

I'm mixed on this one. I think it's a younger woman's perfume (in sentiment, anyone can wear anything at any age, and I'm personally into fruity, less mature scents). By that I mean, it's bright, and has a real sharpness to it that can be nose-catching in a good way, but maybe strong overall. This was a 'What are you wearing?' perfume I smelled on another young woman back in the late aughts. I went out and bought it right away and...while it still smelled pretty, it didn't have that magic on me. Then at some point I got some of it on a winter coat, and it would NOT quit. I had to wash it to get the sharp rose/amber out. So all in all, this is just an 'ok' on me. But then, it did smell magical on someone else. I wouldn't recommend a blind buy - try it first. Very rose, floral, warm, amber.

prava.slava.mama

I purchased a sample of this as a favorite blogger of mine mentioned it used to be her signature scent. Although I like classic scents and I adore florals, I must admit I find this one kind of boring. There is an “early aughts elegant” vibe to me but I find the amber really sharp. Similar to my review of Stella Peony, which I sampled at the same time, I smell a resemblance to Jo Malone Peony and Blush suede. I get a lot of peony in this, but I prefer a softer peony.

It’s not awful, but the scent bugged me after a while. I feel like it might be a bad fit for those prone to headaches. I also suffered pretty badly from my asthma later on in the night that I was wearing this, but that could’ve been from something else. Fragrance is so subjective, so you might love it, but it was “meh” for me. It was enjoyable to try though. It’s always fun to expand my experience and work on my nose! Thank goodness for eBay perfume samples 😅

This was my first blind buy, and I liked it a lot. The fresh, green rosy smell with the citrus boost is nice in summer. But I reacted to something in this formula and had to stop wearing it. Might have been the citrus oils. It irritated my skin horribly - my face and arms itched and broke out. I put it away and moved on to other scents.

LOVE. It's all I've worn since it came out and I'm crushed that it was discontinued. I'm hoping Coty takes pity on us and brings back the classic version because the new EDT version smells like cheap body spray and lasts about as long. Please, Coty, do a girl a solid and bring back the original?

klnewell

I Iove this one so much. I’ve heard there’s an extrait that looks like an amethyst jewel that’s 7.5mls. Anyone have this unicorn? Does it smell like this only stronger? I have rose absolute which I love as well, but I really can’t stop thinking about that gorgeous bottle for some reason.

Anyone has one to share or swap? I’d be VERY generous. Thanks!!

Bewitchedstar

This smells sooo divine! I got a second (the silver ring) bottle off of a Japanese discount app . And oh my god. I can’t stop smelling it!

The first spray smelled amazing more on the floral side
But when it dried down the mixture of the notes just compliment each other.
It smells fresh but has a unique depth.
Best blind buy ever!

Stella is a noughties classic that has unfortunately been discontinued. As an admirer of Jacques Cavallier, I have wanted to try this for a while. I tracked down a charming print edition version from 2011 on eBay, and the compact octagon bottle is very pleasing to hold. (The original amethyst-like bottle is also beautiful, but wasn't to be had.) Stella turns out to be a simple, crowdpleasing daytime rose perfume. Green and cool, it is a fresh springtime scent that is safe, familiar and unoriginal - off the top of my head, it reminds me of E&J Nirvana Rose, Cartier L'Heure Diaphane VIII and Chloé Roses, along with rose scents from brands like The Body Shop and Yves Rocher.

Stella opens with a bright peony note, bolstered by a sweetly refreshing squeeze of mandarin orange. It is very light, aquatic and fresh. Fresh, green rose emerges early on, enhancing the peony note, but it is thin, just shy of harsh. It is reminiscent of The Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose, a light yet photorealistic rose soliflore, but Stella's rose note is thinner and diluted by the other notes. It becomes cleanly musky as it develops, which makes for a nice counterpoint to the rose. Some amber adds warmth as it dries down, and it fades to a slightly sweet, musky rose skin scent after several hours. Sillage and longevity are moderate.

Clean, fresh and demurely feminine, Stella is a discreet, wearable rose that seems tailor-made for office use. Very British in style - country cottage roses, apologetic and fuss-free. A nicely rendered classic, but ultimately unexciting. 3/5.

clairesque

Smells exactly like Nirvana Rose and Nirvana White had a baby. I bet if you layer the two of those you can easily recreate this fragrance.

I've been excited to sample this for ages due to all the glowing reviews, but I'm admittedly disappointed by Stella. It's certainly pleasant but I find it flat and boring. Just doesn't speak to me. But if you're a rose lover and you want a demure, feminine, easy-to-wear rose for year round, this might be for you.

rosehips

My signature scent for many years up until 2021. A deep rose scent, kinda spicy. Going to ration my bottle for as long as I can.

Controlledbyscent31

This holds so many memories for me this was my first proper perfume at age 13, I wore it everyday for 3 years. My first boyfriend bought this for me for every occassion like valentines, Christmas and birthdays. I still keep a 10ml rollerball just to sniff occasionally for nostalgic reasons.

takema

Rose is a favourite note for me and in Stella it is done very well. It is a much loved fragrance for a reason. I have a slight preference for deep, rich rose fragrances, but I can enjoy a light fresh rose when done well. Stella straddles that line perfectly for me. The rose is deep, red and velvety and has a lush fragrance, but everything aroud it is light and fresh. I don't get any green notes in this fragrance like I do with a lot of other fresher rose fragrances, just those deep red rose petals.

Stella makes a perfect signature scent. That light freshness keeps it from becoming overwhelming in the heat. While the darkness of the rose helps it stand out in colder weather. This also helps it suit both days and night. If you are a one fragrance kind of person and a rose lover this just might be the fragrance for you.

My bottle is around 5 years old, so I don't know where that lands in the reformulations, it may be the more current as it smelled just like the couple of samples I have gotten since then. The performance is fine, about 5-6 hours with light to moderate projection most of that time.

I think this is a rose that can suit any age, especially if they are already a rose lover.

mauvealert

You know how some roses can be quite dramatic, flamboyant and spicy? This one isn't--it's polite, reserved, a bit cool. That makes it perfect for daily wear when I want to smell nice but not bother anyone with my perfume. It doesn't make me feel any big feelings, but it's very pretty. Agree with the reviewers who say there's a leather or suede vibe in the drydown, but it's subtle. Soft silage but good longevity. It's also very classic, can't really imagine this ever smelling dated.

tashwakefield

It has been a long while since I made what I call a 'mainstream' fragrance purchase. I have had a long sojourn in the niche product market, thus I have found myself very impressed with Stella. Sweet, pretty and just plain lovely. Stella is a rose among exotic flowers. Love x

Mona708

The beginning of this reminds me of Agent Provacateur, but not as sharp or spicy. Later on, it becomes more powdery. It’s pretty interesting for such a linear scent. Sadly it’s discontinued, so finding it later on might be tricky. It’s nice for work as long as you don’t overdo it.

librabeing

This was my very first fragrance. :) I used to wear it in college in the early 2000s. I still have a bottle, but rarely wear it. I sprayed some on recently for around the house. I still like it, but I think my nose these days is too used to fresher, more realistic scents, and this one feels very, well, perfume-y. A great starter scent for teens or early 20-somethings, but not sure it has the staying power that I've given it on my shelf (15 years?!). Nostalgia is a hell of a drug!

cosmic_desperado

On first spray, this smells gorgeous - it's a very modern rose perfume. However it doesn't last at all and needs frequent application. It's really disappointing as the scent has so much potential to be a perfect everyday rose perfume. It's not as fresh as JM Red Roses, Stella is a bit ...darker? I think Stella is more autumn/spring because of this. Wouldn't recommend as it just has no longevity at all.

Mary_M

Beautiful rose scent. Gentle and feminine. However it doesn't last at all. Would not buy it for the full price.

Enchanted77

Stella is the most beautiful and modern rose fragrance I’ve ever smelled. However, due to its fleeting behavior, I doubt I’ll repurchase.

shoppingscenter

I just tried this for the first time over the past couple of days after ordering a trial size vial of it. I like the smell. When I first splashed it on, it reminded me very much of the now discontinued Tendre Poison, but with a rose accent. After a couple of hours, it turned into an aquatic fresh scent for me. In fact, it smelled almost exactly like CK Everyone, but with a slight rose accent. (CK Everyone is unisex, but to me, it smells a bit masculine once it settles, perhaps because of a cedar undertone. Stella replaces CE Everyone's cedar undertone with a rose undertone, for a more feminine scent.) I don't find this powdery at all. It was never overwhelming or offensive, even from the first splash.

Tweez

Bought my second 30ml bottle of this last year, after losing my first one in a house move. I’d had the other bottle a while, rotating it with my other perfumes and the formula has changed this time round. Still a beautiful, vibrant rose, but I sense it being watered down and even, sadly more synthetic. A very good ‘day’ perfume, inoffensive and classy.

Dani C.

Stella is everything I imagine a perfect scent should be. Classy, natural, very feminine, while subtle yet making a point and taking a stand.

Far from being a granny rose, Stella it's suitable for any age as it is refined without smelling too antique. Plus the glass container it comes in is a beautiful amethyst color and looks so pretty on my vanity. If you not a high fan of roses, do yourself a favor and try a sample of this, just lovely!

Wow, sounds like the formula has changed. I have a 2004 bottle and it's amazing! I don't wear it much but when I do, it's just perfect and long lasting. It's deep, rich and spicy -- and doesn't change much over time. This Stella creation could be that famous rose scent of today - if it were the same bottle and formula as it was17 years ago.

My bottle is reminiscent of sterling roses...very fragrant. I would seek out a vintage if you love rose scents.

Happy spring!

whotookthebomp

Super heavy on the rose for me. Was hoping for more of the orange. Didn't last long. Gave me an instant headache.

tempbee123

Beautiful rose scent that doesn't last long at all

MixedTastes

This is still a lovely rose fragrance, but it definitely lost something in the reformulation some time in the last few years (2014?). It used to have a jammy, forest fruits undercurrent and a more powdery, slightly leathery drydown. And it was STRONG. My coat used to smell of this for days after wear. It’s lighter now, and more a straightforward and fresh rose and peony. I think it may even be discontinued (?). A shame. One of my favourites in my twenties and early thirties.

JacquelineRenee

Stella- One of my all-time favorites. I remember first smelling this back in 2004, and rushing to the department store to buy the largest bottle I could. So simple, so elegant... Not much more really needs to be said about this one. A delicate fresh rose backed up by the soft peony and the woody warmth of Amber. If you like pronounced yet not overwhelming rose fragrances, you must have Stella. There's something to be said for a fragrance that doesn't have a zillion notes in the composition. It could be said that Stella is vintage in the best sense of the word yet modern all in one. It's the best of both worlds. My daughter does not wear perfume, and of all my collection, I only get a reaction from her when I wear 2 fragrances: Stella and Chanel Gardenia. Although she likes the Chanel Gardenia, she will only ask to use my Stella. I'm going to have to buy her a bottle of her own. :)

americanablonde

Though orange is listed as one of the notes, this perfume is weirdly, almost overwhelmingly, bright and citrusy on me. I don't get much rose at all! The scent is pleasant and light, but it doesn't last on me at all. Within two hours I couldn't smell a thing, not even when I pressed my wrist to my nose.

I want to like this perfume more than I do, because I do think the scent is nice, but it doesn't work for me at all.

Perfumedsecrets

Stella is a beautiful perfume. A bestseller for years. One of my favorites from the early 00’s that represents a time to me when I was starting out on my own as a young adult. A rose unlike other roses. 🥀 It’s not as easy to find as it once was, but I won’t forget it. Stella McCartney hadn’t been making fashion for very long when it debuted, but it was unique. Simple yet not. Rose and amber instead of vanilla, woods, or patchouli. So the rose is still the star, but she’s not a piercing one.

LionsTigersBearsOhMy

Soft, elegant, powdery peony and rose with a drop of citrus. A light, fresh floral with just a touch of sex appeal.

hadiyahadiyah

😍 smart, cool, and comfortable. Stella is for the woman who knows herself. has an air of female strength and confidence. classy yet "down to earth". a great gift for that friend who "tells it like it is". it's floral and feminine, but somehow not too "girly". for the warm, wise, funny, loving, strong, honest woman.

a clever, beautiful blend.

Murmur123123

I still remember smelling this in one of the fashion magazine perfume ad inserts when it first came out in 2003 when it first launched - I was in my teens. I had my first bottle of this in 2006, went through a few of it over the years, and now (2021) I still have 2 bottles of 100ml of it in my collection.

I think the post-2014 reformulated version has lost that slightly "tobacco-y smoky" character I used to smell in the old version, and is overall a bit lighter and less jammy. However, it is still the same perfume (90% of the original has been retained in my opinion).

I wont call it a "fresh rose" (Paul Smith Rose or Diptyque Eau Rose is what I consider as "fresh rose"). It has this slightly moody and mysterious character to it, but doesnt go as far as "gothic or dark". Overall still an elegant and graceful rose in my view. I will wear it to work, but not on days when I need to attend serious meetings, if that makes sense.

ClassicsLover

This is a litchi bomb on me yet litchi is not listed in the notes. Or maybe that's how the rose is coming across to me here. Citrus and litchi. It is light and airy, and actually despite the fact that I hate litchi, is pretty. Still, this composition feels like it was made with a younger woman than me in mind. I'll see if one of my daughters would like this. It seems like it might be more their speed than mine.

WijayantiKusuma

Stella is an easy fragrance to love. It’s feminine, light, airy and classy. Obviously it’s a rose perfume, but the dry down you’ll get more than “just a rose perfume”. It’s a little bit musky and powdery on my skin even it’s not listed on the notes. I’m totally agree with the hype, a straight love for Stella!

fragrancemusing

This was my jam in my early twenties. I remember splurging on a bottle after savings for months on my paycheck and it used to be my everyday scent. Then suddenly I got sick of it, I found that it turned sour and acidic with my body chemistry. It was banished to the back of my cabinet until I decided to revisit it today after watching a youtube review from Delicious Delights.

This is rose and peonies in the peak of their bloom, with a hint of muskiness. The opening is a pleasant balance of sweet, sour, powdery roses. While I still love this fragrance, it doesn't wear well for me on hot summer day time. After trying it on at night, I might plan to use it as a night bedtime fragrance. It is comforting, familiar and make me feel very feminine.

I am not sure if there are any difference to the 2003 vs 2014 bottle, mine is the older version from around 2008-2010.

Tovah

This is the fragrance that led me to becoming a Perfumista via MakeupAlley way back in 2003. I loved it so much I went mad first for rose perfumes, then so many many more. I still have a little bottle of the 2003 version and it smells beautiful. I have the 2014 version as well (purchased a couple of times) and I still think it's a beautiful fragrance. It's just not nearly as provacative, tenacious or elegant as the original. The original "knocked my socks off", so to speak. Even though the 2014 version wasn't up to the masterpiece of the original, I am stiil deeply saddened by its discontinuation. I guess I thought Stella would be around like No. 5 and Shalimar, especially because it's a Jaques Cavallier! It's a mystery to me why this fragrance would go away...it hasn't even been 20 years. It's such a shame.

clemmy

I love roses and expected much more from this blind buy.
Nice red rose, well balanced, not powdery, not oily, not fresh, but sillage and projection are too weak. I prefer much more Trussardi Delicate Rose, it is a more pleasant rose overall and cheaper.
Easily forgettable and not worth full bottle. 2.5/5

Amelia28

This smells just like Lush Rose Jam. It's beautiful, unique and comforting. But oddly enough, other ppl don't notice this scent on me. My girlfriend always gives me feedback and compliments on my scents but she can't barely detect this on me.

mapache

This review is for the vintage/original Stella EDP.
Happened to find this gem at a reasonable price.
I am loving this !
I don't know how/why , but in the drydown I get a "leather-ish" vibe...which I love !!
I have not smelled the "newer" formulations of Stella,so I cannot compare.
Sillage/longevity seem to be pretty good so far.
I slept on this one...so long....So glad to own the original now !!

Mayrojas2012

Did I get a fake or a bad one? All I can smell is medicinal, fermented old decaying roses. I’m sorry maybe I got an expired bottle, or maybe I’m not old enough for this fragrance. I don’t know, its a hard no for me.

SQ

Whilst I quite like the scent when initially sprayed, it literally disappears from my skin in 10 minutes, no matter how much I put on. Not something I'm devastated about though as it was a blind buy on special offer and to be honest, in my opinion there are nicer rose fragrances out there.

anna-fie

I absolutely adore and love this scent!
First bottle came to me in 2004 and I have loved it ever since.
Have never compared it to any kind of rose because it doesn’t remind roses to me.
It is a soft and powdery scent - maybe if any flowers I think of violets 💜

missviv

Absolutely gorgeous rose fragrance, but I have to respray about 5 times a day. Which I don't mind, but I wish this lasted longer than 1 or 2 hours.

pinkstate

On my skin it smells like those fancy Italian rose scented soaps. Very romantic, delicate and feminine. This started my love for rose fragrances.

alisha-gabrielle

Received this perfume as a gift. Not my usual smell but really liked it. Lasts a long time, and smells better as it settles than it does when you first spray it. As it settles on the skin it’s even better. Perfect winter scent, great for those frosty evenings, mulled wine & hot chocolates, not really for the summer in my opinion! I smell class & elegance. I used this as an every day scent in winter, rather than my night out attire! Had great compliments on this :) I also feel like this would be perfect for work / job interviews

AngieGCarp

Stella is so long lasting...lasts at least 12 hours+ on skin and clothes. No choking, headache inducing screeching undertones..just smooth, soft, sensual smells that would suit just about everyone. A perfect gifting fragrance!

This was a blind buy for me..I didn’t pay much. I think it was 28.00 for 3.4 oz. Oh yes, I scored! This is not a rosey rose. It’s more of a jammy rose. It’s a simple but expensive smelling delight! Please, try Stella! She’s so versatile! We all need a frag like that. 👍🏻

Egaines23

I love this perfume so much! This is a weird observation but it almost has a slight powder smell to it that reminds me of how the cabbage patch kids dolls used to smell. Other than that, it’s very warm and calming. I feel sophisticated and level headed when I out this on! I am not buying another bottle because it literally only smells for the first 5 minutes of wearing it and then disappears. It’s really disappointing.

Rosemary14

I layered this with Lush’s Rose Jam body spray today and it’s the best Rose EVER. I smell like powdery Rose candy.

VancouverSnifter

Still my favourite rose perfume. 95% rose, with a little bit of juice. goes on beautiful and stays beautiful. Nothing powdery or cloying or old-fashioned here. Medium silage, appropriate for day or night for the elegant wearer. A shame to be discontinued.

cocostrats

This is a very lovely, delicate, divinely feminine rose fragrance.
Sadly, it only lasts five minutes on me.
They are a nice five minutes, though.

rufflesbows

This to me is syrupy sweet rose jam mixed with orange marmalade. Not a natural rose smell, but delicious and decadent. A little sharp and not powdery at all! On me it is linear and very long lasting. If I spray behind my neck, I can still smell it hours later. I have had my bottle for about 10 years and I predict it will last me another 10 years!

ekowala7

This is is bright, fresh, crisp pink rose. It smells exactly like if you were to stick your nose in a bouquet of pink roses and peonies, simple as that.

This is a great fragrance for rose lovers, it is so pure and simple, but in the best way. I could see myself layering this with any rose fragrance to pull the rose out and to add a crispness. I think this would be gorgeous with Lancome Oud Bouquet, PDM Delina, NR For Her EDP, just to amp up the rosy-ness.

Longevity is moderate 4-6 hours on skin and fades clean, silage is soft/moderate.

Overall 7/10, I am very happy with my travel size and may get a full bottle eventually.

bintTapputi

Pretty typical, easy going rose. The citrus is nice here and there is a slight spiciness to it, but overall I think it's just a relaxed casual fragrance. 6/10

Phantomias

Rose is the kind of note that drives fragrance lovers like me a little nutty. Always searching for a new and better rose scent although there's already a number of rose perfumes in one's collection ... and yet there's always room for one more.
In the hope of scoring the perfect rose scent I purchased S. and now my formerly drab life is brightened and enriched. Hallelujah the search is over! Imagine warm Old Dutch Masters light upon the elegant flacon as I anoint myself with the blessed liquid ... but seriously, S. is lovely!
Original S. is a very beautiful rose perfume, rich with rose oil and free of rose water soapiness. Expertly blended, the other notes enhance the rose without overshadowing it.
Sillage is modest, longevity is good. S. stays close to the body, making it work safe. This is an ageless feminine scent without frills or sugar. The flacon is also lovely, a stretched octogon. Understated and chic, just like the perfume.
This is the first Stella McCartney fragrance for me, and I'm pleasantly surprised by its elegant, understated beauty: a welcome addition to my ever growing collection of rose frags. Still, the search for that perfect rose perfume
continues ... I know it's out there.

TrickyPine

I really tied to make this work this for me, but it fell a little flat for my liking.

Overall, a beautiful rose scent with natural accords supported by the citrus note. All roses have their own stem and leaves, and sometimes these can have a strong bitter scent to it, I think this is where the bitterness of the orange comes in. This elevates the rose scent from a floral airy rose, to a heavy heady rose.
For all the people hoping to blind buy this fragrance, it is definitely something you would have smelled before, do trust the straightforwardness of the composition.

melikaofpersia

A nice straight forward rose fragrance, easy to wear all year around, day and night. It’s romantic, gentle and overall just very enjoyable. Reminds me of my hometown where rosewater is very popular (in food, skincare or even as air refresher lol). I don’t really get mandarin which I’m happy about, because I don’t think this scent needs a very pronounced citrus note.
I really enjoy fragrances that are not trying to be over complicated with a million notes, so obviously for me this is a win. The only thing I will say is that to my nose, this is not a super unique fragrance. I mean people might still give you compliments (the projection is surprisingly good), but they will also think “ah yeah I’ve smelled this before”. But again, maybe that’s just my experience because as I mentioned, this scent is very close to the rosewater they often used in my hometown.

Roselover225

I first bought this perfume as a 1 oz after spraying a sample on a card and then having to go back and buy it that day because it was so good. That was around 2008. I then went through a 1.6 oz and a 3.4 oz bottle, wearing it most days. It’s a rich, jammy rose. No green notes, faint top notes of citrus, and thanks to the amber it is richer than tea rose or red roses. Not quite a soliflore, it is a rich rose with some depth. Decent silliage and lasted around 6 hours. This was the perfume that started my love of rose fragrances, and very few have come close since. Then, to my horror, the reformulation. The latest 3.4 oz bottle my husband gifted me was a faint whisper of what it was before. More citrus notes, less amber, and the rose is definitely not as rich. Sillage is poor and it lasts for barely 3 hours. I have to spray twice as much for less. Is it still good? Yes. But not as good, for sure. It became an occasional fragrance and I replaced it with Jo Malone Tudor rose and amber as my favorite rose. Today I found a 1.6 oz bottle of the old formula in a trade shop and the owner sold it to me for a ridiculously low price. And now I remember why I used to love it.

dvlcis

A creamy, ambery rose-pivoine spiced with orange and woody notes (in my opinion). It is very nice, as a scent, but it gives me the impression that it is like a base for a oriental, but the rest of the pyramid is missing. Bottom line, it is a rose perfume with bad projection and longevity. Not bad, not great. You can certainly find better.

smellysmello

Stella was the signature scent of an unpleasant former co-worker so I don't reach for it frequently. Too bad, because I think it's an interesting, versatile, year-round floral. It feels a little modern and a little vintage at the same time. Stella is a tart, jammy rose with amber to mellow it out. It's distinctive but not over-powering. I get decent performance from it - maybe 3-4 hours.

Swedelish

Stella with the silver rimmed cap is strong with amber and rose absolute. It's an autumn rose. The new Stella EDP is more like a crisp, musky peony with rose (equal parts peony and rose) with more citrus than amber. In that way they are very different from one another, though essentially they do smell alike. The quality of rose and the depth in the older formulation makes it far superior to the current. It is strong stuff and lasts forever on my skin. Such a stunning rose and amber fragrance that I'll probably be craving more when fall comes around. I've been looking for a pre-2014 bottle for years and I finally found one in nearly new condition. I think the Stella fans swooped them all up because it took me forever to find this beauty.

Not groundbreaking, but tastefully done and a classic that just makes me so happy as a rose lover.

semsem_sunshine

Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate this perfume
But to me it smells exactly like rose scented hair removal creams
I don’t mind the scent but I can’t wear it unfortunately

Austrian_in_Denmark

A beautiful scent. It feels classic and fresh at the same time. Quite tart, probably due to the orange. But in my nose Stella is purely rose/peony and amber. And what a rose this is! I cannot think of any perfume where I like this flower more than in Stella.

I once got a bottle of Stella from a wonderful friend, who had just bought a new one for herself. Within a few weeks I went through it, as if someone was paying me for spraying it :-)

The sad truth behind my behaviour is that Stella withers as soon as she has bloomed. Such poor longevity of such an amazing scent...

perfumesimpleton

I have this in a rollerball. It's okay, but I don't love it. It doesn't last extremely long on my skin, and to my nose, it's not super interesting. It's not my favorite scent, but it's safe.

terigurl

I just love how Stella smells. It has a clean floral fresh sweet smell to it. Perfect for out of the shower perfume. I just wish it lasted longer on my skin. If it lasted longer on my skin this could totally be a signature scent. I'm still happy to have this in my collection.

Rosemary14

I don’t know what Stella used to be but to me she’s just fine the way she is now. She’s not powdery or fussy and trying too hard. This is an elegant timeless fresh rose and peony with a touch of citrus. This is such a CLEAN rose. Honestly, I love Delina but to me this is the most classic rose scent in my collection. I’m extremely picky about rose scents they can’t be too strong or powdery or I want to scrub them off. For a while I owned Jo Malone Red Roses and I found it too harsh so I sold it. This one is simple and just right in my opinion. It’s romantic rosy goodness.

I’m guessing some of the issue with the new formula has to do with longevity. I’ve had this on 2 hours and it appears to be mostly gone. That’s a shame because the scent is so pretty.

mz_diamondzzz

I never smelled the old version of this fragrance, however I blind bought the new version based on reviews and the notes. I was expecting a floral bomb, but got a fresh realistic single stemmed rose with a dusty finish to my nose instead. This actually reminds me a little of Chloe edp, except Chloe is much more watery and sweeter. On my initial spray, I was not impressed. It smelled almost like a bubblegum/citrus. However the dry down is much better but not super exciting either. Just a simple rose scent. 6/10

disintigratedwoman

I first smelled Stella (the original version) back in 2006 on my grade 7 art teacher. Each time she passed by my desk, the most beautiful scent trail would catch my nose. Jammy, dark yet somehow fresh rose with something magical and enticing. I had to ask her what it was, and she said it was Stella. That was also around the time I started to become fascinated with perfume.

Fast forward almost 15 later, and I’m on the hunt for a really good rose perfume. Of course, this one case to mind. But comments left on the 2014 version Stella page have scared me off from buying it. If anyone has a bottle of the original they’d like to sell or swap, feel free to message me :)

I love a good " rose " one that is subtle , but a rose in full bloom . This is it for me . I had never heard of this lovely scentual , so glad I just happened to see a bottle for sale on eBay for a really good price . I came here , looked up the notes , read reviews and immediately went back and purchased . So for those reviewers that spoke of a clean rose scent , I thank you all ~ This is for sure on my list of 20 must haves , what is nice is that I rotate my scents for wear so I never repeat a scent in one month unless I'm on a scent bender , which has happened a few times in which I wear a scent until I tire of it , then place in back of perfume cabinet . I love this . I see a table set for two , candles , a nice wine , Merlot or even a blend of Cabernet / Merlot would be perfect , a nice roast of Lamb, wild rice , salad , fresh loaf bread { French }. A great " dessert " just a nice sweeter { like rose } Champagne with strawberries dipped in dark chocolate. La Panzanella Croccantini , { great cracker for any and all cheeses } a cheese and fruit plate to cleanse the pallet ~ I get 100% rose , so far .I have had it one for just over 2 hours , I was off today so took my bath / shower early just to try this out . I get to go to sleep with this ~ I'm in " awe " this went straight to rose , no alcohol burst , just straight up rose , all rose ~ I have always "paired " my scents to food , not sure why , I know in advance where eating so , say it is a " good steak house " , I'll wear Obsession { original formula } or Tom Ford White Patchouli. This is the first time a scent has chosen my meal , and one that I'd find pleasure in creating . I hope I can find another bottle ~ ///=^} ~

For all those wishing they still had their old bottles of this, I recently found mine. Stored in a clean cool dark place, but just didn’t survive. It doesn’t smell like it used to. It was one of my all time favourites before I switched to Chanel. I wish they still had this in the original formula, all the reviews say the new formula doesn’t last on the skin.

Update: I bought the new one today. The original is definitely better, but it still smells very much like the original.

back again...
for anyone reading this that may know the answer...
Stella is my all time favorite perfume and I have been looking for a while for perhaps a middle eastern perfume that is similar to Stella? I know it must exist. This beautiful scent, which was ruined on reformulation, must be available in markets outside mainstream USA. Any help would be great!

v.furz

I use to love this scent. When it first came out I loved the way it smelled. Then a I had a horrible roommate in college who wore it daily and unfortunately I couldn't stand it because of its association with her. Years later after the bad association had faded, I bought myself a bottle. Honestly, I don't know what I expected, but I feel knocked down by the rose. It's strong and there's no subtlety here. I don't smell Amber or Peony here. Tastes change and I just don't like this on me. If you like Rose though, this packs a punch and lasts forever, so it might be for you.

Grandma Roses.That Is All.

Sreza7

I thought this was going to be more interesting. I thought it would be a more deeper intense Rose because there is amber listed in the notes. Turns out this is a boring real rose scent that my nose just doesn’t appreciate. I prefer my Si Rose Signature 2 which is a rose and black currant fragrance, much sweeter.

Tt777

A former neighbor I shared a duplex with wore this circa 2008!.It was very strong and stuck around even when she wasn’t around- it was unlike any scent I had smelled before and had to ask her what her fragrance was-

Years later I would always test it out at Sephora and the opening would confuse me as it smelled nothing like the fragrance I wanted to purchase- after reading some reviews I see a reformulation may have happened- also, I learned that this scent transforms on me- I like it after 30 minutes- love it it after a few hours- when I think of rose in a scent I think of tea rose which I don’t care for at all- this is a modern rose done right- in spite of the reformulation I feel this is a classic and has been my signature- it is strong and I think any fragrance I wear projects like crazy so a little goes a long way- if you spray this on your clothes it will stay until you wash your clothes-

I have gotten compliments from both men and women when wearing this- for those who test it and don’t like the opening, give it some time- it transforms :)

Though no longer my signature I will always have this in my collection-I feel it is a timeless classic- I own the edt as well which is a hint softer🌹

tessiebee

I'm assuming this is the reformulated version. It's nice and light, muted roses and a touch of citrus. I'm not getting much amber or drydown, once the roses fade there is nothing left to my nose. Soft sillage, weak performance on the first try.

oldleather

So I went to sephora to try this and was a bit baffled that the scent was described as “rosey.” I didn’t smell any roses! It smelt synthetic for sure but I couldn’t pick up any notes in particular. Maybe a bit woodsy and spicy? Does anyone else not smell roses??

itskimn125

I’m blown away by this perfume. It is a very true sparkley rose. It makes scenes that it is from Stella McCartney because it is both modern and classic. The rose has been really bubblegumed into a sweet candy for a lot of modern fragrances... however, Stella is different. It captures both the classic vintage fresh note, yet leaves the dusty musky notes that were more popular years ago. Rather, it is a vintage rose dipped in champagne - not Prosecco. This is a great buy per value and I highly recommend this for a rose lover.

For reference: One of my signature fragrances is rose anonyme by atelier cologne. I find Stella to be a more sparkley version. It’s the same scent profile but a different emotion. The former makes me feel powerful, and Stella makes me feel effortlessly confident.

I hope you love this as much as I do.

florally

Oh, wow, this really is significantly better than the 2014! I was lucky enough to find a 2012 bottle. It's much, much rosier in an almost essential oil way. I mostly got citrus + woody notes in 2014, with rose more of a modifier than a full note. The reverse is true of this. IFRA, I know you're just being cruel to be kind, but gosh I wish rose absolute had escaped your watchful eye.

Projection isn't amazing, but it's at least noticeable after only three sprays on my wrists and neck, which is a 100% improvement on poor 2014 Stella.

It's closer to my all-natural rose fragrances than anything commercial I've tried. :) Best rose fragrance I've yet met.

EDIT: I now have a 2008 bottle and it's even rosier. :)

DUPE FOR STELLA ROSE ABSOLUTE INTENSE!
It would not allow me to add it to the list of smell alikes, so i had to write it here. I have been searching and blind buying for a while now looking for a long lasting frag that resembles the above perfume. I FINALLY found it. It is so similar that I could not even tell them apart. If you love Stella EDP, more specifically StellA EDP pre 2003 or Stella Rose Absolute, you WILL definitely love this too!

Oh how lucky was I to wear it 10 years ago. It was so simple but so beautiful. It would develop so wonderfully on my skin: you could mostly smell a slightly balmy rose and peony. I still remember as if it were yesterday: it is winter, cold an dreary. I get on an empty bus, sit down. Suddenly I smell this balmy bouquet, I can't quite put my finger on what it is. I look around to see if there is someone sitting near, who would smell so good. And then I realise: that smell is the Stella that I am wearing. I got so many compliments on the old Stella. Oh how I wish the current version had the same effect. It's a mere washy memory of the original. It was present, but in a very elegant way.

cactiandcacti

did not like this. Too sharp, too citrusy...too high pitched for me? It was not well rounded and was lacking an anchor. I ended up selling it on ebay.

violetbelle

One of the very few rose scents that I own, Stella is a rose of her own; a powdery cloud of dry zest from citrus and musk warmed by amber. Simply sophisticated, clean, extroverted. A little goes a long way.

Mona Lygre

half price in Gjøvik, Norway...

such a beautiful scent,

and it triggers my astma,

bagger, bagger, bagger,

so very nice perfume

Lhvoyles94

My boyfriend loves this perfume, but I only like it. It is very night-appropriate. I feel like it is also a mature, sophisticated, and sensual scent. I'm more into fresh, young, flirty scents (I'm 24). I will say, though, that this probably the only scent that I would describe as mature that I actually enjoy wearing. I wear this for special evening events. I used to think it had a very true rose scent, then I got Viva La Juicy Rose, which smells straight up like a rose, and now I smell more amber in this scent. The two scents layer beautifully, by the way.

marinaw90

I can't believe I've never reviewed this fragrance. This has been my signature fragrance for over 10 years now. In 2006 I visited Paris with my Mum. I was 15 and we went into La Galleries Lafayette, and my Mum said I could buy a fragrance. At 15 this was my first 'proper' fragrance. We laughed because we travelled to Paris from London, only to walk away with a British perfume!

I tell you this story because my Mum passed away almost 5 years ago, and this scent will forever remind me of her and that trip to Paris. I could sit here and list the notes blah blah blah but sometimes a perfume review just has to say what it means to you. All I know is that I will always have a bottle of this and when I wear it I feel close to my Mum.

Renatafrascassi

Quiet and sophisticated. Ideal for office and the occassions you want to wear perfume but don't want to be imposing. It is floral, but firm, well finished, like soft sound of the sea somewhere in the background.

Perfumegoddess23

This perfume is very distinct & unique there are many rose scents out there but this one was just polished precisely & beautifully , it has this alluring bold silkiness to it that makes it ultimately elegant to say the least this perfume screams out " The Secret Garden"
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

zhuzhu

This is EDP I am reviewing. Just a bit too much of everything - too much peony and too synthetic of rose. 20 minutes in the fragrance turned bitter on my skin. Just not my cup of tea.

al820129

Now I think the key is how you spray. So far Stella wasn't my type of perfume because I have sprayed it too close to skin. It was like natural rose oil. Icky.

Today I sprayed it from distance, big poof and then it was a Moment. Amazing citrus accord was there and all details have fallen to places making pretty picture of realistic vase full of velvety, just picked flowers, still full of life and oils in their dark red and pink petals.

Stella has attractive floral thick sweetness that surprisingly pleases even mine saccharine infused soul. I think gourmand lovers would enjoy this perfume as fresh summer alternative.

Bubbles1964

Review of the original formula: nice fizzy, rose and peony scent. Nothing synthetic in this composition. I enjoyed wearing this 15 years ago but my taste has changed so I don't have the urge to buy it again.

Nova_

I liked its smell quite a bit. It is a subtle modern rosy scent (not an old lady's smell whatsoever). However, I wouldn't repurchase it since it was too weak and never lasted too long on my skin.

piccolo3001

I really want an old phormula of Stella! Love rose fragrances!!

Lucille29

I am very late to the hype of this but I got there at last and so glad I have. I needed time to understand rose as a fragerance and appreciate they are not all “granny-ish” this is stunning. Sweet fresh warm rose. With a delightful amber base. I love it. Very similar to Juliette has a gun miss charming but the staying power on Stella is better (for me) and this one seems slightly fresher because there is no musk.

mesha2sweet

Oh Stella... How happy I am to have you on my beautiful perfume tray. I tried the new formulation at Sephora & I even ordered a sample from Ebay to give it a fair chance. However, it was like I was spritzing air onto my wrist... Seriously. It was like fairy dust. Spray, poof, & gone. But THIS! This Stella has some teeth, and she bit softy because she is a Victorian Queen.. Mmmm I love her. No need for wrist sniffing because this Stella is wafting in the air. I see yall side eyeing me for falling in love with a fragrance that has been discontinued for 4yrs now. Well.. Better late than never :) I have a full 50 ml bottle that I'll just have to spray sporadically. This feels like a bottle of Rose Wine to me. So beautiful..

Longevity- Unknown as of yet because this was love at first sniff.

Sillage- Who cares as long as I continue to get these beautiful wafts all around me.

Regrets- That I am so late to the game..

BellSmell

Gorgeous...rich and warm and floral. The rose is lovely; a gorgeous old tea rose with a bite of rose Turkish Delight.

demhayerawsah

Rose and amber, delicate and beautiful.
It can smell a bit like candy initially but the bloom on this fragrance is just lovely.
I had the old formulation (2003), not sure about the new 2014 version.
This perfume was way ahead of its time.

Linge25

A true rose scent that is inoffensive and modern. This may sound strange but for me this is a scent that somehow smells even better when my body heats up. Originally I tried a sample and I went to the gym later, while doing cardio I found myself actually smelling better the more I sweat. So weird but totally sold me on it as I have never experienced that before. They also did a great job on the bottle, it is beautiful.

aelserafy

Freshly cut roses sprinkled with dew drops. Stella went from a solid like to a deep love for me. In a sea of many forgettable florals, Stella is a unique floral that begs attention. She's elegant, classy & a head-turner in warmer climates. Reminds me of those huge floral arches you see in weddings. Stunning performance with a grandiose feel to it. Forces you to up your game, dress up and wear make up to match it. If you like florals, you can't go wrong with this. Spritz sparingly, or not if you want to fill the room with your whiffs and keep being reminded about this beauty for days on your clothes.

Lilacs&Lavender

I really advise you to wear Stella when the temperature is a little warmer, wherever you may live. She doesn't bloom in the cold. I bought Stella about six months ago as a blind buy, based on reviews and the fact that I can't resist roses - growing them, wearing the occasional rose motif on clothing, and in fragrances. At first I was disappointed. No depth, no amber, little silage or longevity, just a soft rosey scent. Money not well spent I thought.

That was at the height of Summer - please let me explain. In the hot, unbearably humid sub-tropics of Australia, we live like nocturnal creatures, only emerging from our air conditioned homes, offices and cars after dark. Stella was muted by the artificial cold. Today it is mid-Autumn and I am wearing her in my garden, where she belongs. If I came across a real rose with this scent, I would be very well pleased and tempted to buy it. Money well spent after all.

mongut

well, well. my first bf from 15 years ago gifted me a travel spray of the original stella, along with 3 refills. i thought this was too intense for a teenager. i thanked him and tucked it away, spraying it only when he was around LOL. i just found it in my parents' home, along with odds and ends from college. i sprayed it again, so many years later, and WHOA. i love it. here's how i've changed.... i've read about and smelled so many more perfumes now than when i was 15. i've developed a clear taste. i've been on a long search for the perfect rose perfume. i have a basis for comparison. and of course, i have changed—as a person and a woman. today the original stella smells like a unique, fresh rose. less amber-y than 'mille et one rose' and just barely not "old lady" intense. i see why that was my impression years ago; stella is an unmistakable rose. however, it manages to stay buoyant. i prefer aerin 'rose de grasse' and for a real statement guerlain 'nahema'. but this is a nice date scent, or even office scent if you don't mind getting noticed (more typical in european and middle eastern offices than american). finally, i have to add to the chorus and lament that this formula is discontinued. i tested the latest stella at sephora and it is NOTHING, absolutely nothing like the original. it's weak, not as unmistakably rose, and kind of generic. really too bad about all these fragrance regulations!

Aura de le Fae

Does anyone have this formulation for sale?

Hellokittymeaw

Classical Arabian Rose, that is all I get from this one!

LiviaBruch

my poor nose just captures the ambery notes in this perfume... no roses or peonies.. very sad...

rola.asad

THE scent is gorgeous! Romantic, clean, rose, & peony <3 But the lasting power sucks!!
I own Chloe roses which I feel these both are quite similar so I’ll stay with my Chloe roses

parfumparfan

I don't like rose scents but I'm a sucker for musk and this delivers. It smells very Arabian (think incense, smoky oud, etc) yet clean. I absolutely loved it and it was my going out fragrance. It's kind of weak for that but gets many compliments. It's a solid blind buy but I wasn't impressed with its power/lasting strength and I normally don't like rose anyway. It's very modern yet timeless and I can see it being an office fragrance if applied sparingly.

Cauda Pavonis

A pleasant musky rose. A well balanced, powdery rose fragrance with slight detergent edge. There's something a little tart and something a little watery in there, too. A very calm, lady-like fragrance.

Antares811

I still own this 2003 version.
It's a beautiful rose scent! Very feminine and elegant.
It's amazing and it lasts for hours, the drydown is divine.
Another masterpiece of Mr Cavallier, rose and peony on a warm amber base.
A must have for rose lovers. I adore it.
This is one of my most complimented perfumes.
The new version (2014) is still beautiful, but it's slightly weaker and the rose note is less potent.

Serafim74

Ha! Never been a rose smell lover (except on a flower itself).
I discovered this perfume, pretty much as soon as it hit the shelves and I loved it. For some reason, it was perfect scent for work I felt. Went through two bottles of it, back to back.

Years later, I found Fragrantica and lo and behold, there was no end to my surprise that Stella is a rose perfume!! Ha, ha..

Feel like I could go back to it again :)

mongut

Stella is everything I hate in a rose fragrance: dusty, musky and old without that vintage smell of essential oils, civets and musks (increasingly banned and therefore nonexistent in post-2000s fragrances). Yes, Rive Gauche and Nahema are intense rose fragrances, but they are "vintage intense" and have a beauty of their own. Stella is not that. It's also not a light, fresh, dewy, modern rose like Aerin Rose de Grasse.

My ex-boyfriend bought this for me and raved about it. I thought it reeked.

There is something in it I like: a part of the rose that smells true perhaps. But it's smothered in so much I dislike that Stella is a definite scrubber on me.

Daphne2Laurel

This was my first perfume love, and I use perfume very slowly so I have the original formula of this. It's such a fresh, light, sophisticated rose. This inspired me to seek out many other versions of the amber and rose combination, and all of them have been deeper, heavier fragrances. This one is like roses on a summer breeze.

Becw08

My husband bought me some of this back from a work trip.
It was summer and I would say this is a summer scent.
It's very rose heavy
Pleasant but nothing to write home about.

basgam

It's funny that on some ladies it reeks of old rose scent and on others it is so beautiful. I decided to give it a try as my Manager smelled lovely with Stella EDP. I can smell very rich and strong roses at the beginning, but after half an hour the fragrance settles down to this cosy, warm rose with a hint of something that I can't describe. This 'something' makes Stella very unique, and totally different from its opening. The opening reminds me of The Body Shop Moroccan Rose, indeed, but there is no similarity when both fragrances settle down - they are totally different. I would wear it during cooler days though, too rich for summer days.

marina.zubov

Stella rose this parfum o my god is so beautiful. I wear the parfum for the first time when I marry my husband. Is a perfect wedding perfume for summer. Smell like summer roses. I smell mandarin and tangerine orange and a big pink peony flower with the rose. Is missing some green leaves or stems like actual rose and is not like real roses but is beautiful. When the parfum is dry on the skin is warm and musky also with amber. The parfum does not last too long but smells good and other people near me can smell it when I wear her. A clean and sweet fruity rose parfum. I wish this came with a shampoo or body wash because it would smell so good to put it on and make the parfum stronger. I do not know about the other parfums in this line Stella Rose Absolute ? But I do like this original. Perfect summer rose parfum for women. I am sorry my English is no so good.

Stoicov

I loved this for a very long time.
I bought this because it was the most wonderfull scent on a guy I met in a photo shoot (good chemistry on gay men by the way with all respect).
but my bottle went stale in like 3 years
It really changed the way I felt about it. From a classic it went to like a bleh I can't wear it anymore?
Still maybe from a fresh bottle you will get the red roses. I remember this is one of those few scents as soon as you spray it on you fell ready to conquer the world.
It was a contemporary fell on roses but now it's like vintage?
Am I getting old?

Carrieberry

This is a very nice rose fragrance :)
It is modern yet classic. I think this fragrance goes perfectly with a slightly vintage inspired feminine outfit.

LittleParfumista

Classic vintage rose. Mature. Elegant. Sophisticated. Really classy. Not the soapy cheap kind.

Silage anf longevity are really good and smell remains pretty much the same all the time. Very feminine.

A must for all rose lovers.

MixedTastes

Popular fragrances are often so for a reason. And this, in my humble opinion, is popular because it's a masterpiece.

THIS is THE original, beautiful, feminine, classic British rose.

Much copied, much emulated. But I don't care HOW many other (mainly British) women I sniff this on...or HOW many other (definitely not British) perfume houses I see try to copy this...nobody does it better. And popularity can't dissuade me (no perfume snobbery here).

I adore Stella. My signature fragrance throughout my thirties and for a good reason. Its sophisticated but easy to wear. People recognise it, but only ever (in my experience) in a good sense.

Peony, citrus and an unlisted forest fruits lurk here ..but essentially, Stella is THE benchmark modern rose fragrance. Hands down. There is no competition.

Pinkfuzzball0087

I'm on my second bottle :) smells like rose, blackberry, and incense.

Justapixel

In the hunt for the perfect rose perfume, all roads lead to Stella. Recommended by all here, I had no choice but to cave and buy a rollerball to test. And I'm so glad I did! For sure, I'll be buying the full size, and this may become my signature scent.

This is the pure rose floral my heart has been desiring. I put it on this morning and proceeded about my day. As I sat in my car running an errand, all alone, the scent of fresh cut pink roses filled my car like fluttering butterflies, and made me feel feminine and beautiful. Every place I went, the fragrance of roses followed.

This scent starts with rose and sticks with rose. Not roses and raindrops, not roses and white flowers. Just big, blooming, fresh roses warmed by the sun, maybe an ant crawling across a petal, bees buzzing about, heady and delicate at the same time the way roses are. A descerning flower-lover may also get peony;it adds a minuscule drop of sweetness. . But citrus? Not to my nose. There is amber, but it's the sticky kind, the one that another fragrance attaches itself to, not one that stands warmly on its own. In this case, stuck to the amber is all rose and that is beautiful.

Wearing this perfume is like is carrying a perfect bouquet of hand-picked roses, all in full bloom just a day before the petals drop. It envelopes you with beauty. I've been wearing it all day and I'm still holding the bouquet, unwilted.

It has lasted 10 hours on my skin so far. Sillage seems good, although nobody was near me, I continue to get big, lovely breaths. When people here recommend something, or even just say what perfume carries a specific scent, trust them. Of course, every body chemistry is different and so each fragrance will be different on everyone, so you must test. I'm not sure I'd have realized that Stella was the rose perfume of my dreams without all the brilliant noses here. What in the bottle or name says "This is pure rose?" Yet it is.

If you like a fresh and real rose perfume, I don't think you'll be sorry with Stella.

Neosmiaphyte

This is a definate case of the bottle not matching the scent. Stella is a delicate, soliflore skin scent with sharp, crisp, green rose layered with citrus in the top. I do not get any amber on my skin. I wish I would have found this during my rose water perfume phase, as it would have been perfect. Sillage and longevity are basically non-existant

mutintabailey

Beautiful fresh alluring and lovely scent shame longevity is poor you have to keep spraying it consistently but unique and definitely the best floral perfume!

camilla15

smelled this off of a paper sample. Absolutely breathtaking, with the mix of floral and amber, keeping it feminine and soft, while adding a little something in there that makes it stand out. Will be testing it out on my skin in the future and I will love to do a more official review of it. So far, I really do enjoy this one.

Meja.Kast

This is ghostly and cold and breathtaking in cooler weather. Candied ripe rose petals and golden amber to ground it. Beautiful drydown. Mysterious and perfect for a fall walk. Sophisticated and ultra-feminine. Love!

LeeAnnM

First I have to clarify, I am by no means a perfume expert. I simply know what I like.

I fell in love with Paris Premieres Roses. I love it. It reminds me of my grandmother in the very best way. Not because she wore a rose scent, but because she loved, and grew, roses. BUT, it is an EDT and fades more quickly than I would like. So I did some research, trying to find a perfume with a similar scent.

Everything I read said Stella was a solid rose perfume. So I felt comfortable blind buying it.

Today is my third day wearing it and I have to say, from beginning to end, I don't smell a single rose. I grow roses. I know what roses smell like. I can't imagine a single rose was harmed in the making of this perfume.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the perfume. I rather like it. But to my nose, it's nearly 100% powder. Perhaps even a very expensive powder. But not rose. And it doesn't change. From the moment it was airborne out of the sprayer, to now, 9 hours later, it smells the same. It lasts well. I can still smell it.........but not roses. Just powder.

** Edited to add.....On my way home from work it dawned on me that this perfume was reminding me of a cheap knockoff I used to wear in the 90's. It was either faux Giorgio Beverly Hills or Giorgio Red. THAT is what I think of now, smelling Stella. A cheap knock off I paid less than $10 for at Walmart.

Nil3

Even though the bottle does not represent the juice inside....
This is rose at its BEST!!!!!!

No perfume trying to be a rose, no perfume reminiscing of rose.
Of all the roses.......

This is authentic rose.

I love to give verbal Oscars to the best ones of their category....

Out of all the D&G´s,Trussardi´s and Elie Saab´s roses.....

The Oscar goes to STELLA!!!!!!!

BlackAmberMoon

One of my holy grail perfumes. I never want to be without a bottle. Reminiscent of a rose garden early in the morning, when the blooms are full and glistening with dew. The touch of citrus and white amber give the scent some weight and structure. I adore Stella and never get tired of it. The original version is still my favorite. A masterpiece by Jacques Cavallier.

fyre92

This is jammy asf! almost like raspberry preserves made with rose water

beingme

Stella is just fabulous! Simply gorgeous. I love her perfumes. They are such beautiful roses. This one is so gentle and refined, soft and delicate roses. Beautiful. Perfect. I get compliments, compliments, compliments when I wear it, which is a lot. I just love the gorgeous bottle, and the colour, and it lasts so well on me. It stays beautiful for 10 hours and more. It's so beautiful.

eftyxiapascesar

I bought stella and florabotanica on the same day!two aspects of roses, two aspects of me...I find myself yearning for stella when I feel more down to earth, more mature, more of a mom, warm and comfy!but sometimes I smell florabotanica and I smile like a little devil...definitely more airy...like flying...

Soofiya

Last year I was a hardcore rose lover, back then I tried to buy every rose dominant perfume that I was able to put my hands on but always all of my searches ended to stella Mccartney which wasn't available in my country and I heard it's discontinued
I sill like roses but not mostly as a dominant note.Ofcourse they're always some exceptions.it's always good to have a well crafted rose perfume in your collection.needless to say when I found stella available in instagram page of Eiffel_shop with a bargain price I had no choice but order it ASAP.I'm very glad I did
As I said,I'm not a rose lover as I used to be so I don't want to collect all rosey fragrances but I believe all women need to have at least one good rosey perfume.stella isn't my most favorite rosey perfume but it's among very good ones.I like it and I find it wearable and balanced
Rose is the dominant note here but orange and peony add a fresh and bright quality to rose and prevent it from turning to a classiccompletelyc rose.there's also amber to add sweetness and ground other notes with it's warm quality and prevent them from becoming sharp, cold and metallic
I prefer to wear it in spring but I believe it's easily wearable year round in case it's not too cold or hot.longevity and sillage are both good.more than moderate and it's more than my expectations for such a delicate scent
Stella McCartney is simple, almost linear but it's also ageless, timeless and deserves all the bright reviews
❤❤❤❤
P.s:I don't know what makes me to think of a purple rose while smelling it.maybe it's just the color of bottle but I think I can smell something like litchi or a hint of berry like fruits

Vampiris

I thought I had reviewed this scent ages ago, but I just realized that clearly I haven't yet..

I ordered this wonderful scent years back in several samples when I first started my exploration in the perfume world, then I was gifted a 30ml bottle. Back then I did not appreciate this fragrance much and ended up letting it go. If I knew it would be so hard to get the original version nowadays, I would probably think twice.

All these past years, I smelt it a few times somewhere and I would always be stunned by its beauty. I'm not very big on floral scents, but to me this is the best rosy scent and the perfection of rose fragrance. It's a delicious and sweet rose scent with a touch of freshness..it smells heavenly and perfectly balanced with all the notes..high end and modern..again this staff is heavenly and extremely womanly..the sillage is great and longevity is decent..the packaging is top of the line personally..To me the scent is very versatile and can make a brilliant signature scent. Hot, sexy and classic!

bronni666

stella opens with a burst of freshly cut roses. not the intense deep dark burgundy roses but the velvety red roses. it is a lovely radiant slightly sweet scent that is very pleasant and not overwhelming and that's about it from me for stella has all but gone within the first hour.

PinkRainbow

This is a STELLAR rose perfume! Subtle and sweet with incredible sillage and longevity! Gentle and beautiful. Expensive, but worth the price!

shauna.parra

This is a lovely clean fresh rose scented laundry detergent type of smell but that's a good thing.

At the first whiff I get a fresh and citrusy scent of mandarin orange peel which matches up with roses on bushes. If you ever stop and think about what roses (and rose bush) smells like it has a similarity with the scent of citrus, particularly oranges.

It has a little hint of Tea Rose by the Perfumer's Workshop and also Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet.

The peony floral note is present in both Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet and this one and it's all the flowers they need. If you like roses and peonies, this is a lovely pink bouquet of roses and peonies.

Stella is dainty and feminine, soapy, clean, and sweet.

It makes me think of a princess in a pink gossamer gown or a ballerina. Totally a perfume for a prima ballerina.

This is quite pleasant and pretty.

The dry down is an amber but it's there to provide it with a clean finish.

Amber is also there in Tea Rose so it's this dry down - after the citrus note - that totally reminds me of Tea Rose but this is more subtle and softer. One might even say that it's faint and a skin scent.

If you have no issue with rose fragrances and they work well on your skin this is for you.

Unfortunately longevity is an issue for me.

This perfume could have lasted a little longer but while it's on me it sure smells great.

Casual and cool

Perfect for spring and summer

It matches up with anything pink

Pink dress shirts or blouses, pink T shirts, pink high heels

This is a pink colored fragrance!

Nope. Too clean and sharp for my liking.
Very ordinary and overpriced.
This reminds me of British Rose by the Body Shop which, too, I do not like.

This scent was good while it lasted. It was posh without admitting you had money. It was confident and cool. It didn't try to hard and I appreciate that. Pretty and trendy, this perfume has upturned collar and a moisturized face with a hint of mascara, a dab of blush and a sheer barely noticeable lip stain. Pretty for its time but forgettable. Worth the money but would not buy again, it's out-trended.

This fragrance doesn't necessarily smell like men's aftershave, but something about the scent gives it that quality. Maybe it's the synthetic vibe I get from the smell? That's not to say I think this fragrance is unisex. It smells fairly feminine to me.

I imagine a business woman on the the go, not a seductress. I don't think it's suitable for a night out on the town, unless you're dressed in all black and wearing a blazer.

The kind of woman I imagine wearing this is someone who would wear Stella McCartney handbags, particularly the edgy ones with the shiny silver or gold hardware.

I'm sure this sounds super duper subjective like most fragrance reviews, but I still wanted to give my 2 cents :D

I still have some left of my bottle bought in 2004. Never tried the newer formulations, actually. I remember Stella being different from the other new launches at the time. Must admit I bought it because of the bottle. Thank heavens, 'cause I don't regret that now! This has a smokiness to it, specially in the beginning. Almost like a tobacco note on my skin, which makes it more interesting in my opinion. This rose is a bit austere, and not a sweet kind of scent - which is a good thing. There are plenty of sweet fragrances to go around as there is.

I guess it's the citrus that ruins it for me. But it's so weak, doesn't project, doesn't last, doesn't do much aside from bother you for a few minutes while you apply it :D
Then you keep sniffing in hopes of getting something nice and... blank. So you put on another, more satisfactory fragrance.

This is the perfume that made me realize not all roses are my loves. I appreciate what Stella brings to the table - classy, mature and cold ROSE and I thought I would love it so I blind bought without hesitation. Unfortunately I can't stand this rose, it's literally offensive to my nose, even my boyfriend asked me to scrub it off. The rose for me is a dirty, darker, musty rose that doesn't take the driver's seat, and Stella is not that and it makes me sad.

This rose it very sour, quite fresh and light due to the pairing with peony, yet with an ambery depth keeping it elegant and more suitable for evening wear than your typical watery rose water scent. I find this belongs to the category of deep, elegant, tangy roses rather than natural, watery, sweet, spicy, green or jammy. Uncomplicated and easy to love without being generic or too similar to other rose perfumes.

update. 2 hours later and stella has gone. only a faint trace with my nose pressed against my wrist. review from 1ml sample vial.

i can smell pure roses. no synthetic roses for stella. after first 5 mins it settles down and smells like a pretty floral bouquet.

If Spring could be bottled...
Stella is a softly feminine scent - a fresh bouquet - an elegant perfume that may well establish itself in "classic" territory. On my skin, there are strong similarities to Coco Mademoiselle and Miss Dior.

I admire perfumes that manage to take a few simple notes and blend them so masterfully that, while they each portray a lead role, neither can be detected in isolation. The entire perfume would falter if one note went amiss - it seems that the strength of each individual note is enhanced by the support of the others. The romantic femininity of the rose, the lighter, greener, uplifting peony note, the fresh, sweet hint of mandarin and the sensual base of amber.... hmmmm, what's not to like?!

Sillage is close to the skin, and longevity a good 6+ hours on me. This truly is a pretty perfume; one that is easy to like and admire.

I usually don't like rose scents, but I wanted to try something from Stella McCartney perfumes, and the sample of Stella was the cheapest, so I decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, I wasn't disappointed! Peony plays very nicely here covering the rose, so it's not overwhelming. I like that a lot. The fragrance is a bit sour, like green perfumes, which is something I tend to like. It reminds me of Miu Miu Miu Miu which I love.

What I like about this is that you can wear it any season at any time, and has great longevity and sillage. Perfume usually doesn't last long on me but this one does!!
The rose is at first a bit overwhelming when you spray it but on my skin turns into such a lovely scent. I've used it for years now and it's such a familiar scent to me now, I love it.

Rose definitely kicks you in the face with this one, then the sweet citrus takes over. Rose is lurking creepily in the background, but citrus is the alpha dog here, showing its teeth. Rose is the muscle, just waiting for citrus to give the orders. Lily and peony peek around the corner from the shadows, reminding you that they are always watchin. Eerie.

I was interested in sampling some fragrances from Stella McCartney specifically because I have heard that her line is animal-friendly and cruelty-free- which I appreciate- and decided to start with her first fragrance, Stella. I like rose notes and that is definitely what I get from this perfume- pretty much just pure rose. I'd hoped for a little more, although it strikes me as a light, sweet rose that shows no sign of turning soapy-smelling- something I've experienced with some other rosy perfumes I've tried and which I really dislike. This one is pretty, and I'll keep it in mind, but I'm looking for something that's more than just roses.
