This a straightforward floral-vanilla scent that will get you compliments
There are some designer vibes about this, which is why it's not working for me
Comes across quite synthetic and not natural at all
I wanted to like this, but it smells too generic and basic

blerg

Pretty simple vanilla/sandalwood scent. I get a little bit of orchid on initial application as well as rubbing alcohol, but both go away pretty quickly. It lasts 3-4 hours and is pretty unisex. This is good by itself or layering. There are better vanilla scents out there but I think for the price if you want a basic vanilla scent this is a solid choice. Overall, I like it.

NappoBappo

This perfume smells like dandelions on me. I love dandelions so I love this perfume!
It doesn't smell like any of the notes listed though.

lorako

I get more soap and firewood than orchid and vanilla from this one-- but the vanilla is the stronger undercurrent and well matched with the woody notes. This doesn't have much longevity on me. I used the travel-sized rollerball that comes in a tin along with a lip balm. Maybe it's better to get the spray and to apply this on a greater surface, more skin and possibly the clothes if you want it to last longer or have more projection? This is a cold or cool weather, or night time scent to my nose. The "people who like this also like" includes several of my favorites: hypnotic poison, and old school lolita lempicka included.

_Nerevarine_

It's a good quality, long lasting perfume. However, it's just a little too smoky and masculine for me. I will say that it does present a very specific aesthetic, and I think this would be a perfect signature scent for somebody (just not me) due to it's longevity and decent projection. If you like unisex, smoky-vanilla scents, you should give this a try.

minag

I am confused by the notes list. There is no tonka in the listing, but this is a 100% pure tonka bomb on me. It's a fine one-note fragrance, but it is not at all what I expected. And it does last. I can still smell it the day after applying, even after showering.

AlliCat1215

It is woody and a bit masculine. Not really for me. I found that it didn’t last very well.

margotmargot

had to come out for a fellow margot. ive been trying to find something that smells like glossier you and by the fireplace had a baby, and while im not sure this is that, its nice! on the scale of glossier you to by the fireplace, i would put this closer to by the fireplace.

Alex7781

So fabulous people stop me to ask me what fragrance I'm wearing. Lasts for about 10 minutes then disappears to nothing.

AllisonNW

I forgot I had this so I sprayed it on my sweatshirt last night before bed and I can still smell it this morning. It’s a really nice, basic woody vanilla.

TBonetheFella

A dark and deep wood seeing the morning light reflect on the pink florals beneath. The faint smell of vanilla and damp bark combining with the pink floral to form a juxtaposition between light and dark, inviting yet fresh.

This scent is really good for the first like 5 minutes and then it KINDA fades to next to nothing on my skin. A beautiful mix between soapy lotus and resinous woods with a vanilla backbone. It’s dry down is just the woods and vanilla getting more powerful as the orchid dries.

Part of me wishes this wasn’t my introduction to ebony woods as it’s very understated here, but this is still a great fragrance.

I can see those more used to stereotypical masculine woody fragrances saying this smells feminine but I still think this is unisex. The lotus is less super powdery and floral, and more musky and soapy; and it’s pretty understated besides the top.

It’s good! It’d be REALLY good for someone who doesn’t typically like super woody scents or those just dipping their toes into the ocean that is woody focused scents.

For the price I paid I can’t really complain about either the performance or projection, but it’s not that great on my skin. I’ll get a solid 4 hours out of this scent with moderate sillage if I dump 20 or so sprays on me. But for those seeking something a bit more intimate for themselves then this whole brand is a must try.

Banger day time fall/winter scent in my opinion.

Detman101

Hmmm...this is really floral. I was expecting more wood...but I've only tested it on paper so far.
It definitely leans feminine and very powdery also. I pick up on the orchid, vanilla, and powder notes more than the wood notes...but that's what I get from the paper-test.

Two sprays on a napkin lasted overnight and fragranced my office nicely. Woke up this morning and walked in to a luxurious cloud of "Dead Sexxy" permeating the room...very VERY nice!! This frag has some power and sillage to it.

Anyhow, I'm going to wear it out today with the wife on skin and report back.

(3 hours later...)
Welp, 3 sprays to the chest, one to each inner elbow, rear or neck and each wrist.
Then layered with two sprays of "Lush - Honey I washed the kids" to the chest, on top.

Fragrantic HEAVEN!! Projected and left a niiiiice sillage trail for the first hour and a half.
Then retreated to a nice aura about me with a radius of 1-2 feet. This was in the 90 degree heat of the peak of the day. Returned home and took out the trash and got sweaty after running errands...which pretty much obliterated any projection/sillage/aura of this fragrance. Now it is a nice skin-scent that requires closeness to detect.

So this fragrance definitely doesn't survive sweat and heat....without way more sprays.
Overall, I still like it! The composition is awesome and it's classy enough to wear to work and while wearing a shirt and tie. Not a formal fragrance...but not a completely casual fragrance either. Sits perfectly in the middle and covers a bunch of bases!!

Time to review this, since I've just lost most of the contents of my bottle in a bag leak 😩

This is such an unusual and interesting fragrance, despite not having many notes. The combination of vanilla with ebony wood gives it a slightly dark, edgy feel, but for whatever reason there's a distinctive honeyed quality to the perfume. This has the most noticeable honey note of all my perfumes, yet honey isn't even listed. It gives the impression of smooth, polished ebony wood, with honeyed beeswax and orchid petals, and it smells slightly sweet and well rounded, but woody-sweet, not cloying or sugary. This is the kind of woody fragrance I find really wearable in any season, and either day or night seems to work.

I have nothing else like it in my collection, and don't reach for it often, but am always surprised at how much I appreciate it when I do. I wear it when I want to smell different and unusual. Naturally it's discontinued and now I only have a drip left thanks to the bag spill. (The atomiser top screws on to the bottle - and unscrews - lesson learned)

Worth a try if you can get your hands on it. There's nothing else like it that I've smelled out there.

Upward_Falling

Smoky & seductive. It doesn't smell like I've been smoking gross cigarettes, but rather, have just been in the company of smokers in a high end, dimly lit cigar bar - perhaps indulging in a glass of brandy while discussing power moves with unbuttoned tailored dress jackets. I feel like I mean business when I wear this. I know I smell smoky and I own it - cause I know where I've been. Paired with black attire, in colder months in the evening is the best time to wear this. You can't be shy, this one owns the room!

Moderate sillage if you go light handed on the sprays but you can easily send this baby out into the atmosphere with one or two extra sprays. Lasts longer on clothes but on skin I can get a good 4 hours.

I've tried nearly a dozen fragrances from Tokyo Milk and this one is by far my favorite. Simple composition, could easily be layered to pull even darker and rich (bourbon vanilla vibe) or would be beautiful with fruity scents to act as a base for the fruits to bounce off of (think of a fruit flavored cigar). She could layer either way!

I do think it's slightly expensive for a 1oz size but am still willing to pay for it. And the bottle makes me happy, I love the skull design through the backside of the bottle.

Sfp89

Smells incredibly synthetic and only good in cold weather

ghosttplug

To me it’s a pretty feminine scent and a bit powdery. I can def pick up on the orchid, vanilla, and powder notes more than the wood notes, it’s kind of distinct but a little noticeable. Not my fav, but my mom got it for me so I only use it if it fits the vibe i’m feelin.

MatchaCat

This basically smells like sweet vanilla and boozy vodka. I don't get any powder from this. There are florals in the background but they are there to give the perfume structure. This is not a floral perfume and not gourmand either. Just picture vanilla and vodka. It does have a plasticky note in the background, but it's not bothersome. Some people in their reviews say this is masculine but I don't get that at all with this perfume. On me, it's very feminine. Very widely likable scent. I got mine directly from Margot Elena. 10 out of 10.

For reference, I'm female.

TabledThoughts

A dry, incense smoky combination of vanilla and ebony wood.
Something about it invokes pleasant memories from long ago.

seventh

My current favourite perfume. For some reason it reminds me of snow. It is snowing now and I am wearing it 🫶🏻

Claudia967

I have the same review for this as I do for Tainted Love, because the two smell almost the same. This is strictly masculine to me. It’s kind of sweet initially, but dried down to a woody, bitter tea with that I cannot enjoy on myself. It also dries down with a “men’s cologne”y smell

smccmurphy

Intense woody scent upon first spray, my husband rolled the windows down on our drive to dinner it was a bit too much (only two sprays). Dried down to a non gourmand vanilla.

kitty_machine

On me this smells like a fresh/clean vanilla. It is an absolutely heavenly scent. I will admit that I can see where some people might be getting “plasticky” but ONLY upon the initial spritz. Smells quite strong at first but it dries down to a very fresh, slightly floral, creamy, smoky vanilla that lasts 8+ hours on my skin. I like to layer this with JHAG Superdose and I cannot stop smelling my skin when I wear that combination! I get whiffs throughout the day that smell so good I want to roll my eyes back in my head with pleasure. Seriously! I love this perfume!

piginspandex

It smells exactly like a new plastic doll head. I don't get any vanilla whatsoever. The dry down is a little less offensive but when I first sprayed it I thought my mind was playing tricks; surely nobody would make this as a perfume on purpose? Now it's less offensive but not particularly pleasant either.

But to each his own. This has a similar plastic quality as Mugler's Alien (which I also can't stand but many people love). From the vanilla descriptions in the comments this was not at all what I was expecting (I was thinking something along the lines of Maison Margiela's Whispers in the Library since the notes are similar, but they are literally nothing alike). I got this as a blind buy from Ipsy.

Katelynl88

Well this one is a bit strange. I’m not sure if I like it or not ? I got mine from ipsy . At first spray , it stinks , bad , smells like bad perfume gone bad . Then it gets woody , I get wood , maybe a little big spray , and a leather type scent ? Not quite leather but it gives the same feel as . It’s not powdery on me . I will probably use this as a layering scent .

AlaskanAngel

Smooth scent from start to end game. Deep woods, non-gourmand vanilla, and the orchid accord is just there for balance, no floral fragrance feel is found. Perfectly unisex. Very pleasantly surprised.

The other scents I own from Tokyo Milk are BULLETPROOF and TAINTED LOVE. DEAD SEXY fits well in my unisex collection. I'm pleased that I bought a full bottle when I saw a good deal.

NOTE
I wonder if some people are getting compromised bottles as the reviews seem so disjointed. These are just screw-on sprayers. They would be easy to refill with who-knows-what and re-sell on secondary markets.

Capablanca

The name is fitting. It's not so sweet, just a touch to make the woods feel warm and inviting. Layering this with By The Fireplace and it's just marshmallows and a cozy evening outside instantly. Love this stuff, lasts about 5-6 hours on me so far

motoheart

This perfume layers very well with my Dior Pure Poison. I bought that perfume on a whim at Ulta and wowzers, it's strong. It tones down the heavy florals and now that we're heading into Spring, it's a very nice evening scent. Truth be told, I can layer this with just about anything. I just bought my 2nd bottle.

blkleather_redlace

Like Bvlgari Black, but more tolerable. Having heard such a great deal about Black, I purchased it blind and was hideously disappointed to find that it has a very strong, extremely tenacious synthetic woody amber note that I have encountered in various other perfumes but cannot name. I'm not sure which aromachemical is responsible for this very radiant, airy amber but I unfortunately cannot stand it. It is borderline instant migraine and nausea when I smell it. It is also present to an even greater degree in Patou's Sublime and I think some of the Victoria's Secret Perfumes that came out ten or fifteen years ago. Dead Sexy is even more leathery and woodsy, without as much of that (to me) dissonant, airy, clean note. I will have to sell my bottle of Black and pick up some of this perhaps.

ScentBliss555

This is an interesting smell. Does not feel wearable on me. This is powdery in a woodsy, dusty kind of way and a bit citrusy. It honestly smells like a wood polishing agent and heavy dose of syrup honey. The opening was loud, honey-like note. It projects strongly in the first hour. No vanilla to be detected or it's coming across as described above. I had high hopes and really wanted this to be like the intoxicating Tainted Love.
This dries down very clean and soapy. The syrupy smell lingers too which makes an interesting combination.
Even after this terrible initial reaction, I want to give this scent another try. Maybe layer with a gourmand perfume. It's definitely interesting & I will have fun finding the best season and occasion for this.

Gummybear002

Oh yeah baby! Smells like smooth glossy wood in a high-end establishment. Totally unisex imo. It will get you noticed in the right ways, but won't be obnoxious and people won't complain. It's vanilla without being foodie.

Neckromancer

This smells like a sneaker store to me. So strange. Upon first spray, I really smelled an oud-like wood with tea, but that dissipated, and I now smell knockoff shoe plastic. I would say it's a curiosite.
Ooh, I just checked earlier reviews, and others also mentioned plastic. I'm not crazy!

adamh9201

I LOVE this. Super unique, dark, mysterious, and super unisex. Tokyo milk has all of the hidden gems

nickyt99

There is way more to this than the notes listed. It’s dark and a bit dirty and a bit mysterious.

Katiemu

I bought a full-size bottle of this for 2 reasons: the notes list and I am a big fan of the Tokyo Milk Dark line (which this isn't from). Tokyo Milk Dark fragrances have unique complexity & they bring out my inner late 90's goth teenager. This one smells like any other vanilla-heavy scent that you could find at Victoria's Secret. Don't get me wrong, it smells wonderful.. it's just too basic for me (as has been the case with the Tokyo Milk scents I've tested that aren't from the Dark line). I don't want to smell like everyone else. If you're looking for a warm & cozy nutty vanilla then this is for you. It would be great for date night or to buy as a gift for a younger person who loves vanilla.. but I wouldn't buy it for a niche scent-lover or cognoscenti. Otherwise, I HIGHLY recommend "Tainted Love" from the Dark line (my signature scent for the last 7 years). It is much more unique.

MaryLouiseMargaret

Wow! Only four notes in the description, but such nuance! It starts out very sweet--for me, more coconut than vanilla, but a lot of it--but I mean starts out. After less than a minute, no matter how much I put on, it dies down to a woody floral, light, very pleasant. Unfortunately, once it dies down, it dies---period. It just fades. I literally shook a bottle into my palm; after twenty minutes, I smell nothing on my hand. From the reviews below, obviously others have noticed the lack of longevity. Considering how long it lasts, it isn't worth the cost. I really like this line, but this one isn't my favorite.

Update: Whoops! My mistake. After about an hour, it resurrected itself. Really, I can smell it now. On my wrist, it's more of a gourmand vanilla; on my cleavage, more woodsy, like an old chest, no pun intended. Still not my fav of the Tokyo Milk line.

poppyetpear

This is like an old red brick, downtown coffee house with original and very worn down hardwood floors that creak when you walk. I don't usually go for woody scents, I love the creamy gourmands, but something about this is very nostalgic and pleasant. I got it in a discovery set and I just may purchase a bigger bottle.

middle25

I am quite fond of vanilla fragrances, so this was on my must-have list for a long time. I do like it, it's a little dark, a little mysterious, quite unique (at the time it came out) but very wearable. I find it to be on the feminine side, it's a little sweeter than a unisex scent. I really enjoy the ebony wood in this, something different from the normal vanilla/sandalwood perfumes. My biggest drawback is that it hardly lasts. I'm lucky if I get 2 hours out of it and it turns into a skin scent rather quickly.

failedutopia

I always passed on this TokyoMilk offering, preferring more 'daring' choices than vanilla. But it came highly recommended, so I gave it a go.

What is going on here?

To me the woods aren't dark at all, more of the 'culling aspens in Spring' kind of wood. It's got a weird synthetic bubblegum/taffy note to it. Very powdery. What stands out most to me, is the bottom orchid note that it shares with TokyoMilk - Novacaine.

I'm hoping it morphs to something nice on the skin after a while, but I'm underwhelmed. Maybe it would layer nicely, with what I don't know.

jakrist

This is such a nice creamy/spicy sophisticated and sexy vanilla scent. I love vanilla based scents so much and I own many of them, but this one is so unique. This is sweet without being cloying, I think the spiciness helps make this feel like a grown up vanilla fragrance. I like gourmand scents but sometimes they are too sweet, but this is just right. The vanilla is creamy and rounded vs smelling too juvenile.

This isn't a complaint for me, but I would say this is a heavy scent best in colder months. If you like light airy scents, this wouldn't be for you.

SugarAndSativa

This a great scent, but I do have a minor complaint. (A couple, maybe. But we'll see.)

It evaporates WAY too quickly. I'm lucky if I can get four hours out of this! The only way I can get this to stick around is if I spray it directly on my clothes, and only then will I get a fragrance that will last.

Minus the lackluster staying power, it's a rather decent perfume. It's the brand's best-seller, and with good reason. It's a spicy vanilla that's not overpowering, and it's interesting enough to keep the attention of the wearer. As others have mentioned, it can easily be labeled as unisex and can easily be worn by men who may be interested in venturing into sweeter, vanilla-based scents.

Like other offerings in this line, the packaging is stellar! Even the cardboard tubes that they housed in are perfect for setting on one's vanity for display.
The bottle itself is small enough for travel, and it can easily be thrown into a purse for easy transport.

Plus, for a niche line, this is actually affordable.

dmaw

Would never gravitate toward this, but received in my subscription box. I was so pleasantly surprised...a mildly sweet, grown-up vanilla scent. Unique. One of my new favorites.

kiraagold

The blackest richest dirt, and polished exotic coffin woods, vanilla sweet flowers to cover the scent of death----but then it lingers for a while at a distance, ethereal with a breath of incense ash and mystery.

My not-so-inner goth-girl finds this utterly lovely.

Aland2020

Sexy is an apt way to describe this fragrance. Right after spraying there is an undeniable creamy wood + vanilla. I would've guessed something rich like sandalwood, or oak. Then as it develops, a smokiness appears and slowly begins to burn through the woods and vanilla. This gives a smoked leather scent combined with the vanilla, which goes from a rich gooey gourmand type to a drier and more subtle herbal kind. It's intriguing, and unlike any other vanilla fragrance I've tried, which is really saying something as I've probably tried hundreds. I found Bvlgari's black to be a bit too strong on the rubber note which gave the impression of new tires, and thus I found it better suited for a masculine scent wearer. This one is more in the middle, which makes it fitting for a much larger audience, I could see anyone of any gender pulling this off. It's got a bad a** side to it, but it's not so overwhelming that it will offend. The sillage is noticeable while still remaining quite tasteful. I've sprayed one spray on my wrist and then dabbed the excess onto my neck, and I believe this probably toned the projection down a bit. I think I could probably get away with wearing 3 sprays max of this fragrance, and not need to reapply it until later in the evening.

Tokyo Milk fragrances get lots of critical feedback, and a few of their scents I've tried did sort of put me off. But this scent is beautiful and deserves so much more attention than it gets. If you like subtle vanillas with a hint of woods or other interesting notes, give this one a chance. If you liked Bvlgari Black but it's too hard to find after discontinuation or you found it just a bit too over the top, give this one a chance.

GartenGnome

If you could bottle the essence of a burlesque show, it would be Tokyo Milk’s Dead Sexy.

This juice invokes it all:
Sexually-charged atmosphere. Historic theater with high ceilings and refreshments in the back. Cake makeup, sweet perfume. Fresh-cut flowers backstage, dusty props abound, glittery costumes with puffy feathers.
That heavily polished hardwood stage eternally heated up by hot lights.

I wear this onstage, but no I’m not a burlesque dancer.

This fragrance gets me into the right headspace to channel my inner bad bitch. ;-)

Jacquelyn1

I dislike sweet, floral scents but this has just a hint of both and I am in love! Not cloying or overpowering. Very sexy for men or women. I see this as a cool weather fragrance. Im glad I don’t get anything that remotely resembles the plastic or synthetic vibe others have commented about.
This is fantastic in a bottle.

lj9142

I am a huge fan of Tokyo Milk's Dark Collection, so when I was able to pick up this perfume for a steal at my local thrift store I was so excited. I really like the dark, rich vanilla that is in Dead Sexy. There is an air of the unknown that comes across with this scent and in a good way. I have noticed on warmer days there is more of a synthetic scent to the fragrance that I do not pick up when it is cooler. It does last about six hours on me and you don't need a lot as it does a nice throw. My favorite way to wear this scent is layering it under a lighter fragrance that doesn't last as long. That makes me feel like I'm getting more longevity from the lighter fragrance and it also helps center Dead Sexy into the dark mystery it is.

ImREAL

It's smell is wonderful but It is very weak on my skin. Would not buy again unfortunately.

adrienn99

I've recently put my hands on this for a very good price at TKMaxx. I remembered testing it years ago and liking it.

The ebony wood in this is dark and glossy and it is a great pairing with the vanilla.

I keep my distance from sticky sweet scents and this is not one those in my book.

With regards to previous commenters and the high occurance of 'plastic' , am very much surprised by that. I find a lot of fragrances have synthetic smell but this one doesn't.

I 'll probably use this as a base and layer it with roses, think the outcome would be marvelous :)

Shwets

This reminds me so much of Burberry Brit! !!

UnearthlyApothecary

I had talked about this scent with a fellow Tokyo Milk loving fragrantican yesterday and came across a sample of the lotion in my sample hoard this morning. It has lasted on my skin for over four hours now and it is AMAZING very similar to tainted love but more masculine and intense. More dramatic. Darker. I can’t believe there is no Oud in this scent, it has that plastiky Oud vibe. Very glad to finally own this little beauty :)

fumongous

Yes- woods + plastic and I enjoy this a lot. Added bonus that I got a full bottle at an estate sale for $2! Has good longevity on me.
The plastic note smells just like the Colorforms toys.

bailbo

I like the initial spray of this, but the last time I wore it, it transformed into a loud, almost choking bug spray on me. And I only used two little spritzes. I do like vanilla and smoky woods, so I don't know why this one doesn't work for me. To be fair this was on a summer day, so I will reevaluate when the weather is cooler.

_christine_

Vanilla and woods...and the smell of a doll head. I'm not sure what it is, but this fragrance has this odd, plastic smell. The plastic note gets fainter over time, but it never leaves entirely.

Even with the plastic note, this is a weirdly appealing fragrance. It's more in the candle/air freshener category than a wearable perfume.

trevorrobertlee

I MISS THIS. I lost my bottle and am so saddened. This is a gorgeous smooth and sexy fragrance. Almost like deep and rich cream soda mixed with sexy woody notes. Gorgeous.

EnergeticCrab

I used to love this scent but find I can no longer stand it. It's very strong and has a major resiny, woodsy note to it that you will either love or hate. I really ran the gamut with my opinion of this one over time. It would smell so nice in the bottle but when sprayed it was too much. It's possible this might be something you like immediately but isn't something you will reach for in a year.

mellymuffins

Blech, someone please take this off my hands. Lol

lisa bailets

This perfume is intriguing. Today all I smell is the wood, the last time I wore it, I had a lot of vanilla. Neither are bad. I like to be intrigued, can't wait to smell this tomorrow!

redcapricorn

I bought a sample of this one, based on the reviews here, and I have to say it is pretty disappointing. The name alone is misleading. For me, this is not a sexy perfume. It's certainly a unisex perfume, too heavy on the wood and a bit synthetic to my nose. Someone else mentioned bug spray, and it could potentially fall into that category. It's just not for me and is probably the first TokyoMilk scent that I don't enjoy wearing, but I seem to be in the minority here.

LisaLovesPerfume

This reminds me of suntan oil without the coconut. I really like it. I like the oily note....it reminds me of summers at the beach :)

Inky Le Guin

This is a wonderful woodsy scent that has a bit of sweetness that makes this a masculine female perfume. It's really very unisex and a man can easily wear this. I got a bottle for my husband. I do like wearing this alone but my fovorite way is to layer with hypnotic poison by Christian Dior. If you have hypnotic poison and wish it had more depth like I did, try this with it. It is a perfect combo.

jwjulie24

I'm not the kind of person who uses words like "yummy." But this is yummy.

GartenGnome

If I'm dead, that's because this perfume slayed me.
..In a good way!

ConsumerThis

Not bad, as a male I think I would prefer this on a woman instead. Though its in the same vein as Givenchy Pi and midnight in Paris as it has that same vanilla note and softness to it. It is a sexy scent so the name is perfect. I blind bought this brand new for $26 shipped so I don't mind owning it. Overall I'm not shocked or anything, I feel with what I've read and heard about this is exactly what I recieved and that's always a good thing with this hobby. I just wish this lasted longer and had a touch of more woods but that lets me know that this would be great for you "layering" people. I can't layer, I like to experience each fragrance the way the perfumer intended it to be.

Smelled this in a store today, they were out of it, and I thought they were going to have to surgically remove the tester from my hand. Just ordered it, hope it smells as good on me.

RomiJane

I love it! It's very unique while still having familiar notes.

perfumeaddiction

Dead sexy I did not want to read the reviews about you because I found you on ebay for dirt cheap and blind purchased you. What a warm and sexy fragrance you are indeed. Gourmand, spice with a hint of wood. This would be ideal in cooler weather. Very appealing warm scent. I would call it a vanilla woody smell. It's not the same old boring vanilla in many scents the wood balances her out making this one DEAD SEXY. This absolutely is a UNISEX scent. A man can very easily wear this. The slight down side is that it does not last more then a few hours.

tonileefiore

Recently purchased a full bottle of Dead Sexy No. 06 after buying a few Tokyo Milk samples (Dead Sexy No. 06 was not one of them) and thinking they were okay. Based on the samples, I decided to give the current MOST POPULAR Tokyo Milk fragrance a try when I found a good price on a 30 ml bottle.

Uhhh...I guess this is an okay concoction but definitely something that is NOT at all for me. Folks on other fragrance review sites rave about this stuff. I do not want to sound offensive but I imagine this might be an alright fragrance for the under 25 yr old crowd. Given that, I absolutely cannot see this scent being worn or enjoyed by an older, more mature person with a keen nose for fine fragrances & aromas.

This is definitely not what I would consider to be a mature, complex or unusual fragrance. And Dead Sexy???? Uhhhh, no. Not by my definition of sexy-smile.

The opening notes are pleasant enough; to my nose the fragrance is non-complex and pretty linear with a strong opening of wood (ebony, I guess) and lots of sweet vanilla...perhaps a bit of spice (pepper, cinnamon). Unfortunately, as the scent develops and changes (which it does ever so slightly), the initial heady, rather sweet, resinous scent becomes dull and sorta dies. What I was left with was a powdery aroma that smelled like a 10 year old wooden table that had some leftover vanilla & milk (cream) spilled onto it. After a half hour or so, the fragrance turned sour one me, almost smelling rancid.

I am not a fragrance snob by any means but this potion is just a no-go on so many levels. Primarily, Dead Sexy has zero complexity to it, no staying power, zero silage, few interesting notes (if any) and nothing outstanding or unique to speak of.

Good news is because the longevity is nonexistent, the entire experience faded away within an hour and a half or less...

This was a blind buy and I wasn't crazy about it on its own. It's not a warm vanilla sugar type flanker (regular vanilla perfumes are harder hard to find than they used to be) although it still has a sort of synthetic quality to it that I couldn't place. Like lower budget vanilla perfumes before warm vanilla sugar came out maybe? I added light musk to it and that's all it needed. It's been one of my favorites to use as a base when I make my own fragrances because the dark wood and vanilla combination is so versatile.

angiebutterfly

I like this fragrance quite a lot. It's very unisex, sexy, mysterious, warm, and pretty. It's dark and smokey and sweet. It kind of reminds me of a sweet flavored cigar. I personally love that kind of scent. It's sexy yet comforting at the same time. I also love that it doesn't turn powdery on me; it's nicely balanced. At first I was admittedly disappointed that the blast of sweet yet boozy vanilla and orchid I received on initial spray is overpowered by the woody notes after about 10 minutes. (Even though I truly adore woody scents.) But they're still there nicely serving as a balancing act for those stronger notes. Very nice! I'm excited to whip this perfume back out for the coming fall and winter. :) I'm sure after that I'll need a new bottle.

ETA: After a few days wearing this perfume again, I must say that I definitely forgot about the lovely leathery impression I get upon first spray. It's intoxicating with the deeper vanilla and orchid. It's the dry down that smells like a flavored cigar. I like this perfume quite a lot. I still find it to be very alluring, but only when intimate because it sits closer to the skin. I will be wearing the heck out of this in the fall especially. It just screams this time of year to me.

This was a blind buy based on reviews. I have a very hard time wearing gourmands or anything sweet--something in my chemistry takes it to pure cotton candy and cheap hand lotion. Instead of icing, the smell of the vanilla in this reminds me very much of that warm and sweet-but-bitter taste you get if you ever have tasted vanilla beans straight from the pod. The spiciness and wood make it feel a little bit dirty in a good way. I only get a bit of orchid late, but it is very pleasant on me. I do well in powdery floral. I do wish the 'dirtiness' stuck around a bit longer. While this is simple, it is a complete winner for me.

kittybrmow

This perfume reminds me a litterbox, the kind with the cedar shavings. This was not a successful blind buy for me.

kelli.marie

Update: too much powder from the orchid. I Just cannot do orchid I have discovered.

What.... Are you kidding me?! <3 <3 <3
Blind purchased this and it has turned out to be incredible for every day.

Opening: first second I got straight alcohol. After about five seconds it turned into a poof of powder and the wood notes started to unfurl for me. I was concerned it was too much powder. ( Had a powder issue over the weekend with Tokyo Milk Dark's Tainted Love... it gave me a MAJOR headache.) Anyways, after about five minutes it became super woody and the spice notes and vanilla began to emerge. This is when I started falling in love. It started to remind me of Gap Om! ( Probably favorite fragrance of all time! Don't judge! ;) ) It is a bit heavy, but I think you can get away with it on a winter/fall day in the office since it seems the sillage is moderate. Now it is starting to become a tiny bit sweet (vanilla and white orchid) but definitely not cloying or too floral.

2+hours: Powder is there put not overpowering--- just enough to keep it clean smelling and the spices and wood are still very prominent. Still Gap Om. Moderate longevity on this one though. Still missing a big chunk of vanilla. Not getting rubber at all. Layered it with the hand cream and lost almost all of the powder which is totally OK with me! Really getting the Om now. This one is a winner!

butterbean

This is a nice smoky/woody vanilla.

The vanilla is clean, light and sweet. It is not overly heavy syrupy or overly warm of a vanilla nor is it a caramel-y type of vanilla.

The woodsy smokiness dries off after a few hours and what is left is a sweeter vanilla scent which lasts a good 6 + hrs. To keep the smoke/wood notes -spray onto clothing.

Dead Sexy is a good one. I normally don't go for vanilla scents, but I really like this one. I like the smokey/wood notes, and wished they stuck around longer. It is a simple scent, not too complex at all.

Dead Sexy is a nice layering scent too. I really like it with Al-Rehab Choco Musk!

Is this scent similar to MV3? - similar yes a little bit. Is it a dupe? - no, not at all.

AmoreProfumi

Finally got a chance to sample this...&& believe it or not it was right under my nose in a local South Moon Under store...I said OMG!! I immediately spritzed it on && love it. Beautiful scent! putting my nose to my skin I get the woodsy-ness of the scent the most...but it's the subtle smell off vanilla combined with that that I was catching while I was walking that I loved more, deff. on my haves list now...I think I'll get it next week payday!! 32.50...for a 1oz eh more then I'd like to spend beings that the 1.7oz from the dark collection are only $36...but least I know I'm getting the real stuff rather then being cheaper on Amazon && risk getting fake...this will deff be mine soon! :)

wesleyhclark

NICE. My favorite Tokyo Milk thus far. I like the engagingly woody scent, the skull and crossbones on the back of the bottle and the modest price. Successful all around!

Well...not quite. Longevity isn't great.

(Like Bvlgari Black? Rubbery? Never! Isn't it funny how we all read scents differently?)

2746cstreet

It's similar to Bulletproof, minus the coconut & smoke.
Dark vanilla and wood. A pretty straightforward Oriental vanilla type fragrance. Unfortunately my skin magnifies sweet notes so I need smoky/dirty notes like Bulletproof has. Dead Sexy just turns to cotton candy and pencil shavings on me.

lauraapadron

EXACTLY like bvlgari black on me. NOT mv3 (and believe me i wanted it to be like mv3 so bad). i love bvlgari black therefore i love this one :) not as long lasting though but still delish.

mimilli

This leaves me speechless. Well, lets try write something down.

First of all, this is very emotional fragrance for me. It will always be the smell of nights at Miami Beach, the endless darkness over the ocean, the wind in the palm trees. As a fragrance it's more suitable for these icy cold northern Europe nights and maybe to be worn with some dark-coloured wool, having a mysterious, intimate evening..

It's an amazing blend of vanilla and woods. I find it to be very, very feminine, I mean in a strong, unique and high-spirited way. I cannot imagine eg my boyfriend to wear it. Depending of the day I sense it differently, sometimes it's more of sweet vanilla, sometimes dark, smoky woods. Every now and then I wish that the woods were a little less loud, because I feel like I was in a carpenter's shop, in really nice and fancy one, but still! It might be the orchid note to give it its nice, feminine side that takes the heaviness off. It's nearly perfect. Sillage and longevity are both better than average. Not superb, but really good. Tho I think that my alpaca scarf absorbs it if I apply it to my neck... And on the scarf it stays nicely, I really like it that way!

All together: I love it. Not a perfume for everyone to like, I think, but I absolutely adore it. And so does my boyfriend to smell it on me ;)

oblivion

Very addictive scent!
It opens up a lot like Bvlgari Black, very smocky but much sweeter with the notes of vanilla; not cupcake kind of vanilla but heavy woody vanilla. The drydown is softer and sweeter reminds me of Amor Amor by Cachrel but without citrus.
I am obsessed...

negasarah

Dead Sexy to me is a wonderful scent, It didn't carry as well as I had hoped but I'm glad it wasn't super strong either. It has nice layers that make it subtle and sophisticated. It is masculine but I think its a fine balance suitable for a woman who really likes the smell : ) The smell over all reminds me of the holidays in a log cabin, for some reason I always think I smell fir in the mix.

jillywoods

Day 1: Extremely smoky, woody, masculine with a very sexy, dark vanilla dry down. Overall, I thought it was an okay scent for a woman and a DEAD SEXY one for a man.

Day 2 (well... a week later): Lots of dark vanilla swirling with hints of smoke and wood. I'm finding it to be a curious, intoxicating and sexy scent... and definitely unisex, like a cousin to Jean Paul Gualtier's "Classique." It's almost gourmand but it's balanced out by the spicy backdrop.

We'll see if Day 3 has me convinced... but I do like this swirling, changeable characteristic of Dead Sexy that I seem to be picking up.

Kirjk

On my skin it's like.. bicycle tube. Just rubber. With an extreme willpower, there might be a hint of woodiness too. Not my thing, have to give it another chance though. I so want to love this!

Raina

Very much a woody fragrance. I bought this based on the reviews here thinking this would be more sweet than woody, but it really isn't. It is very much a dry, woody fragrance with a touch of sweet, dark vanilla. It puts me in the mind of camping in a dry wood forest at night with a small, sweet fire burning. If I had to compare it to another fragrance, I would say it reminds of L de Lolita Lempicka without the licorice and with the darker notes amped up to maximum and made more masculine and woody, while the gourmand vanilla is toned down to only an accent note.

The thing about this fragrance that makes it so unisex is that the wood here is rather masculine, while the distant vanilla is feminine. So depending upon your sense of smell it can go either way. Personally, I like to judge a fragrance by it's overall feel, and while the drydown may be just a tad sweeter, the wood dominates throughout the stages of application for me. So this feels more masculine on me.

While this is rather enjoyable, I cannot really see myself wearing it much. I might want a touch of it now and again during the winter or fall season when I'm all wrapped in a sweater and thinking about camping in the woods at night, but it's not something I can see myself wearing during the day. I'm such a girly-girl when it comes to fragrances; I prefer very feminine scents. And while this is very unisex, almost borderline masculine, I find I can enjoy it when I'm in a specific mood.

zapling

Funny.I am a gourmand scent freak. From all the gourmand-ish samples I have ever tried, this one is by far the most floral. And very heavy as well. I do not see how Dead Sexy could be unisex, really. Far too feminine, maybe even for myself :-)

xstitchalanna

This starts out with a blast of woods, not your "pencil shaving" smell but a sharp woody elegance. It stays that way for a while before it starts to dry down to a vanilla muskieness. When I first put it on, it was VERY masculine and the drydown would be wonderful for men or women. I need to try this one more time before I decide whether or not to pass this on. If it feels too masculine (on the top and middle notes) next time I wear it then someone else will get it. It lasted about 8 hours. It is best for Fall/Winter use.
Thank you Dame Piglet for the sample! :)

liavekelsewhere

If you love Dead Sexy, the Bon Bon Shea lotion version is even smokier, a little less sweet, more depth and silage. Who would have guessed. I LOVE the vanilla, caramel, amber, smoky woodsy NOT smoky tobacco. I agree with "smells like a sweet tryst on a wooden table" followed by vanilla. Wondering how it will be on long time male companion. He usually mixes his own essential oil based fragrances but I bet he will try this one.

Silage - 5 hours & counting.
Expense to joy ratio: excellent.

I love the interesting combinations that Tokyo Milk creates, however I'm not always sure that I like them......on me...that is. I sprayed a dollop of this on my wrist awhile back while visiting a funky import store in Portland's Pearl District. I was instantly in love....I couldn't stop groping my arm for the rest of the day and I'm sure people wondered what my major malfunction was. I swore I had to have it from that day on and months went by while I continued to night and daydream about it. It very much reminded me of MAC MV3 ( which I a.d.o.r.e.) I did indeed receive a bottle several months later for my birthday and strangely AND sadly it did not smell as I remembered. I still like it but it smells SO much sweeter to me than I remember....sickly sweet. Cloyingly sweet like cherry tobacco and marshmallows sweet. I don't get very much of the wood and smokiness that I remember from that first encounter and that I loved SO much. Personally I don't smell vanilla, I smell caramel and amber and I smell not a wink of floral. It does last for several hours on my skin and seems to keep it's strength. Not sure I would purchase another bottle when this one's empty but it's interesting for sure.

dame piglet

Opens super woody and peppery on me. As it dries, the woody pepper continues and a slight smoke and very, very, very faint vanilla develops. No trace of anything remotely floral develops on my skin.

I'd really love to smell this on a man and I suspect it could be very sensual on a female with different chemistry from mine.

It's an interesting little fragrance, but it's not 'me'.

booandgagamomma

Heavy. Like quicksand heavy. Way to masculine for me as well. I used to manage a boutique where we sold TM and we couldnt keep this one on the shelves. The few times I had the chance to try it I was quite confused with the mania it caused. It reminded me of a seedy back alley bar thick with smoke. But to each their own. Like other TM frags it could develop into something so different and beautiful on someone else.

tsth

How come nobody is mentioning that this smells like a good feminine version of Bulgari's Black? I will be ordering a fb of this...just a tad more perfect than Black for me....I'll let dh keep Black and I'll adore this one!

MeganElizabeth

I got a full bottle of this the other day, and wore it for the first time today.
I have to say, I wasn't sure at first what to think, but after a while, it started to smell bait like my beloved Chergui by SL.
A weaker version, yes, a more office appropriate one, definitely.
I've got to say, this very well might end up in my top 10 rotation.

krissycat

I get too much of a rubber smell with this one. I'm going to give this one to one of my friends. The scent does eventually turn into a lovely vanilla scent but I don't have the patience to wait for it.

lychee_tea

I'm normally a light-floral kind of person, but this caught my attention in the store so I took a chance on it.
At first all I could smell was the wood notes, and they had a bit of a bite to them that I found interesting but not my cup of tea, so I was going to pass on it. But before I even left the store the fragrance softened up a little bit and the vanilla came through, which gives the woods a soft, warm, smoky-sweet kind of quality that's actually very nice. It does have a rubber element to it, but not in a bad way, and again it's tied to the vanilla which keeps it from being too harsh.
And it is sexy, in a warm-mischievous-inside-joke kind of way. Tea at midnight in our bathrobes with liberal sprinklings of sly smiles kind of sexy. But I also find it just comforting. I actually wore it to bed the first night I had it.
Overall I probably won't wear it often because it's not my normal type, but it's an interesting scent and I'm glad I bought it. Ordered a couple of other Tokyo Milk fragrances and I'm looking forward to them.

kastehelmi

The smell of a sweet tryst on a heavy wooden table! Wait--did I say tryst? I meant meant shy flirtation touching hands briefly while drinking steamed milk with vanilla...The vanilla is sweet, but not heavy-toasted. The ebony note is fantastic! While Wish by Lollia was so sweet I had to scrub immediately, the sweetness of this one is perfect for the composition. On the top of my wishlist you go, Dead Sexy!

Carnelian

Dead Sexy begins with a sharp resin ("bug spray") smell and heavier woods which fade fairly quickly, soon leaving a nice, spicy, vanilla-sweet, and smoky woods. This is one of my faves, it has a nice, strong personality and is great for fall & winter. It could definitely be worn by a man as well. I don't get much floral - they just peek through a touch a couple of hours into wear, the woods really cover them up. It is almost identical to "Pomme Poivre" from M.E.'s Love + Toast line - odd to copy yourself. This is definitely better, it's a little more potent. Is is also similar to Sage Oil's "Onyx" which has VERY heavy moss & woods, vanilla & tobacco (although not this is not as sweet and has no coconut.)

Dark Curls

Got my bottle today. This smells good! At first I am blasted by woods, but I like woods in a scent. The only perfume I hated was Issey Miyake L'Fue or whatever. It was TOOOO woodsy. Anyway, a few minutes go by and finally the sweet vanilla rolls out slowly, like a perfect curl of cigarette smoke rising slowly. I am really liking this!!

EnglishCountryGarden

Definitely a cool fragrance. Rubber? Yes indeedy. A slight whiff of new plimsols, tempered by a deep but shy salty, sexy vanilla musk base, the whole thing is rounded off beautifully by a soft, velvetty wood binder which holds the whole thing into it's delicate shape. Yes, its delicate, in the same way as a woman's bedsheets hold the scent memory of what happened two nights ago...it IS sexy, its a memory jogger. If I were twenty years younger, I would REALLY love it, but I'm not, so all I can say is, Nice, Young, You could do worse.

tessture

Woody resin and spices. It's very nice, and has excellent strong wood notes, but it lacks something to be considered quite as sexy as it wants to be. Still, with another name, it would still be fabulous. It's a wood/spice fragrance with a dark tint and feels perhaps more mysterious than sexy. I like it quite a bit for its true wood notes and the blend is seamless and smooth. Very well crafted for such an affordable fragrance and suited to man or woman.

andy

had the honor to smell this in a store and i gotto say its really nice smelling but not that much diffrent from many oriental scents, but the florals are well done

triplex

Not as woody as I was hoping for.Very much vanilla in the opening. A bit nutty and almost caramely middle. The orchid gives it a asian/oriental feel.
Dead sexy? no.
A good semi-sexy oriental? Yes.

BethAshley

The only thing I love about this fragrance is the name packaging.

Other than that is is a straightforward vanilla/woodsy fragrance. It doesn't smell bad by any means but it does not feel special in any way. If you are looking for a higher end version of this I would recommend Givenchy PI for men.

lollialover

I agree with you, if you like this fragrance try le petite , Dead sexy's notes change with time, and different notes are enhanced with time.

rebella

Yes, this is actually quite sexy. Warm, powdery and exotic. Earthy and incensy aromas lingers around for a long time. Remind me of Nature Millenaire from Yves Rocher, wich was one of my favourites for some time. Very much worth the money and if you feel the slightest for sexy, oriental and still very soft perfumes you should absolutly give this one a try.

I really like this one and I find it suitable to wear for a lot of different occasions. I could go for a big bottle of it.
