Black Orchid Parfum by Tom Ford is a Amber Floral fragrance for women and men. Black Orchid Parfum was launched in 2020. Top notes are Truffle and Plum; middle notes are Rum, Ylang-Ylang and Black Orchid; base note is Patchouli.

Black Orchid is the lavish and luxurious debut of designer Tom Ford from 2006; the extremely sensual scent of imaginary black orchid, flowers, spices, chocolate, balsamic notes and black truffle. Very potent and long-lasting, this fragrance gets its "most powerful version so far" in the summer of 2020 in the form of the Black Orchid Parfum edition.

Tom Ford Black Orchid Parfum emphasizes the iconic sensuality of the original and its aphrodisiac effect of the black orchid with a new, potent seductive accords -  ylang-ylang flower dipped in golden rum. It offers an enhanced presence of precious essential oils and reveals the new olfactory dimension of black orchid and ylang-ylang with accords of black plum, black truffle and patchouli.

Tom Ford Black Orchid Perfume is presented in an all-over gold bottle of 50 and 100 ml.

Wow, I was disappointed by this. I had heard a lot of good things about this fragrance and decided to try it at a store. This made me realize how much I dislike earthy scents, let alone earthy truffle. It was almost sickening to me. Hard no for me.

Hiddengem

Black orchid parfum is much better than its 2007 eau de parfum version. This parfum was one of the first of Tom Ford with the cooperation of Estee Lauder in 2007. But this gold bottle is much better. It is newly giving the definition of what the editor of The Informationist, a cosmetics trade magazine, Allan Matt's said to NYT In 2007 about BO: Black Orchid is a heavy statement in name, packaging and scent, and it goes against the grain of the flaunting sexiness you expect from him,” . “But he may be clever going for that mature, dramatic type woman who has enormous wealth, is not into hip-hop, and has an appetite for Garbo-ish, Grand Hotel type beauty statements.” So to me; if you do not like EDP you might still like P version of BO. More aphrodisiac less heavy. It is the fragrance of excitement.

Ana Letic

Love all the Black Orchid flankers, but this on is my favourite for sure. Seductive and dominant fragrance.

kombarris

So seductive, orgasmic even. That sums it up well enough.

Holyyy mother i regret blind buy the parfum version of black orchid. Strong and pungent, unique notes but i can't pull this off. My sugar daddy complained that it didn't suit my natural scent. Plus side? Last FOREVER on skin, weeks on clothes. Bye bye my money

TupacAmaruShakur

I always liked the smell of the edp but I think it suits best for older women.

They did everything thing right with the Parfum, more boozy, more woody....personally I think this is 65% masculine and 35% feminine.

Edit: This is strong, really really strong. I dont think this is meant to be smelled up close. Keep at least 30-40 cm distance between your nose and the area you applied it on.

Venussweden

This is that super hot stranger you’ve been eager to meet your whole life. This perfume is so freakin yummy, dark, earthy, chocolaty, boozy, intoxicating. I can wake up in the middle of the night and get up just for him. My precious…

MrMrBrian

I read or heard online that the original was Micheal Jackson’s signature scent! & I can totally see that being true..I would always spray the original on myself in stores, But never was sure as a man if I could pull it off or not & Then this came out with just so much improvement I feel like the King of Pop would even be proud lol! One thing I believe is for certain is that this is totally unisex! The boozy plum & patchouli with what I guess must be the orchid flower is just truly devine, & one of my most favorite fragrances of all time.

samtinker

Am I thinks this smells like COCO Chanel?

wondervalley666

I enjoy the EDP due to its complexity, but I like this one because it seems like they narrowed down the notes to just my most favorite. I don’t really get “earthy” as the top accord, I get more of a “sweet floral musk” with some unique earthy aromatic notes. To me this is 100% feminine in the sense that I do not doubt it is a womens fragrance. Of course, men are free to wear whatever they want and I do believe this would smell great on a man. IMO the EDP or EDT are a bit more masculine to my nose, but the Black Orchid EDP is still in my top 5 and I’m a woman.

I think the regular EDP smells like Crystal Noir a bit, as the reviewer below states, due to sandalwood and other similar notes. I feel this Parfum is more different from Crystal Noir and don’t see as many similarities.

Ultimately, if you love Black Orchid, you should try this Parfum as well. If you don’t like Black Orchid, you probably won’t like this either. If you’re on a budget, I don’t think you need to own both, you can just wait until your bottle is out and buy the other when you restock. They aren’t so different that I think people would like one but not the other. Both scents are pretty unisex, but I would never say any BO version is too masculine for women unless that woman is a “strictly girly vanilla gourmand” type of picky scent shopper. Anyone saying this is too masculine probably is judging by initial spray and never got to the drydown (the best part, which lasts an eternity). It also may be too strong for people with sensitive noses who prefer soft scents, as it’s performance is in line with vintage classic “beast mode” scents. The quality of the juice makes the scent worth the price as it is long lasting and doesn’t require overspraying. Black orchid, in any version, is an absolute MUST try for fragheads, it’s practically classic at this point. I understand that it may not be blind but safe, but I blind bought it when I first tried it, and I was taken aback at first spray but then completely in love within 24 hours. If you know how to wear and enjoy vintage beast mode scents, this is for you. Nothing about this scent screams vintage, aside from its performance. The past decade has been dominated by “barely there” airy sheer molecule scents, and I hate them all! Haha okay some are nice, but I was born in the 80s— I will ALWAYS choose perfumes that perform like this over the trendy ultra light crap.

VanillaLove123

My husband bought for me as a gift this TF perfume . Well this is definitely a masterpiece perfume but more for the mens in my opinion ...
I am a gourmand sweet girly perfumes lover , I also like depth and spices in perfumes but not in a masculine way as it is in the TF Black Orchid Parfum. For some reason this perfume reminds me a lot Versace Chrystal Noir which I never liked ... possibly this two perfumes have some similar ingredient in them which doesn’t like my nose.

I’m just gonna air back and tell you to find the review from endlessummer down a ways in the Que. but that review is 100 % accurate and spot on.. now go find it. This stuff is Magic

Miracle.Fragrance

prefer this perfume version sari in black bottle edp.
This is stronger, but lately I rarely use it. because I've found a cheaper alternative.
namely trussardi scent of gold, yeah..

I'm a dude and I love Black Orchid, might be my fav fragrance of all time. I sampled this a few weeks ago ( free sample from official tom ford store), so no idea what batch it's from. It's very nice, I think I prefer the EDP due to the complexity of it, but this is still very good and I'm tempted to buy a full bottle soon. I prefer the opening of this to the EDP for some reason, the plum and added rum is so sexy. On my skin, this lasts about 2-3 hours longer than the EDP (the EDP still lasts forever on my skin) but the EDP projects a bit more in my experience.

b2o

To me, this perfume is paradoxical!!. In the first place I thought I bought a counterfeited cheap cologne coz I could not smell it myself when applied...but I was astonished when a person stood five meters away claimed I was smelling great and asked wot I was wearing; from there I built a confidence over this one.

Todays evening I worn a T-Shirt I sprayed this juice four days ago. My wife stood about five meters and amazingly said I was smelling great!!!.

Still myself personally feel like barely sprayed anything. IT'S A PARADOX for sure.

tahtbairon

In my opinion, it's good. At first, I thought it was weird, but after some days, I started to like it. Do not blind buy this like I did, try before buying. This fragrance is not for everyone but i would recommend trying it.

ShooF

I agree with previous poster, if this isn't lasting then check where you are buying from, 2 sprays & this is beast mode! The parfum is very similar to the DP until the dry down & this s where this one stands out.I've seen it on vlogs where they say that the EDP leans more feminine, I agree I'm not sure that I'd wear that one but this could be a sub concious thing! I have to say that I probably wouldn't have gone anywhere near this as I was under the impression it was for women but I love this, probably wouldn't wear it in the summer but for the cold I'm enveloped in this dark truffle/plum bubble.

wondervalley666

Just a quick PSA-

A few random reviews from first time blind buyers here seem to indicate this fragrance occasionally doesn’t perform/last or have silage.

Counterfeit TFs have existed for years. Even if your bottle looks legit and has a valid batch code. There’s a certain Turkish website that was one of the top 5 in google shopping results for hundreds of top selling high end designer perfumes for more than 2 years recently. I made the mistake of ordering from them once and the scents I bought were Sooooooooo fake. Lasted 5 minutes. Never projected. Most smelled like watered down drug store bad dupes that smelled nothing like the real thing. I recall seeing the entire TF orchid line on that site. I reported my accidental counterfeit purchase to PayPal but they refused to refund unless I paid $80 to ship the bottles back to the seller overseas, in a strange first time where PayPal didn’t side with me. I used PayPal for many daily transactions for my business for the past decade and I will never forgive them for that and have switched how I pay ever since. I’m a big grudge holder. The counterfeit site continued to stay in business and thrive for years. Selling convincing looking dupes. Only recently have their listings been removed from google shopping, so i guess google finally figured it out, but I know the site still exists because I can’t seem to get the spam filters to keep their “buy 1 get 3 free” emails out of my inbox.

That’s why any popular scent like this needs to be purchased from a legit trusted retailer. If you bought your bottle on eBay or any other resale site, I catch people reselling the fakes they regretfully bought *all the time*. If your bottle doesn’t perform, there’s a good chance you bought a fake. Go test at a real store for yourself, don’t post reviews for counterfeit fakes, thank you.

DarthFragrance

This is one of my favorite fragrances. It has a ton of character. When I think Tom Ford, I think Black Orchid. Black Orchid is bold, daring, unique, powerful, unapologetic, sophisticated, classy, interesting, innovative, risqué and memorable. Back before I got into fragrances, these were the types of characteristics I associated with Tom Ford fragrances, characteristics that warranted the high price tags, and Black Orchid delivers them all.

Black Orchid Parfum is the only variation I own, and it's my favorite of them all. It's my favorite blend, mainly because of the addition of the boozy rum note, the fruity plum and the amped up ylang-ylang. They really did add a good amount of rum in the Parfum, and you get a good amount of all the listed notes. Nothing is overpowering, nothing is lacking, it's extremely well blended. This fragrance has so much depth and character; with the earthiness, booziness, sophisticated sweetness, florals, woodiness, fruitiness and spiciness. It's a very enjoyable wearing experience and the antithesis of boring.

Performance is incredible, it's one of my strongest fragrances. The atomizer doesn't dispense a lot of juice per spray, and yet just a couple sprays on my arm will last and project all day. I have 2 backup bottles from 2021 of this masterpiece since it will be reformulated and destroyed soon by Estée Lauder, if it hasn't been already.

reppon97

Really close to edp version, but I still prefer EDP over this. This lack characteristics that EDP has.
Still a very solid, dark, sexy, mysterious and long lasting fragrance. I have a thing for dark florals and Black Orchid definitely takes the cake.

DreamInCream

This one is strong and has great longevity, I'll give it that. I sprayed it on a tester strip and it seemed a little weird and pungent, but I thought I'd give it a try. I sprayed ONE spritz to my wrist. This is the most repulsive fragrance I've ever encountered. Feels like everything got thrown in the kitchen sink. Just pungent to me. I've heard people say a certain fragrance made them sick, which I thought to be hyperbole. No, it's a real thing. I could not scrub it off. I tried hand soap, dawn soap, laundry detergent and scrubbing with bar keepers friend. I had to ask my sister if I could use the shower.
It is a beast and not like beauty and the beast. A lot of people love Black Orchid, maybe it is better, but Black Orchid Parfum is definitely not a blind buy.

brha

Excellent 10/10. I sampled the EDP years ago and it was too feminine for me. I immediately wanted a bottle of this after sampling. However, you really do have to enjoy Ylang-Ylang imo to agree with this fragrance. Ylang-Ylang is one of the few floral notes I enjoy. On its own I find it heady and boozy; combined with the other notes here... it's addicting. To me the parfum is more approachable and easier to wear than the EDP. Excellent performance as well.

genec123

I do not own this, although I have tested it quite extensively. Do not expect to like this if you're new to fragrances. It is a next level, challenging yet gorgeous fragrance that is signature scent worthy. I already purchased alot of fragrances this winter, so I will wait till next year to buy this. And I could have this as my only winter time scent if I wasn't so maniacal about fragrance in the first place. It's a masterpiece

Maya lilac

Tom Ford is still releasing some impressive scents. I would start by saying that I love for years Black Orchid in the black bottle but this version, Parfum, in golden bottle, feels too masculine for my liking.

Opening it straight up black bitter truffle, earthy, green patchouli, dark, juicy plum and strong rum. Usually, I love a strong patchouli note in a fragrance but I think that combined with the truffle and rum it feels overwhelming. Feels very dark, heavy and intense. Don’t get the two beautiful flowers listed in the midd notes at all. It’s a great scent with amazing performance and sillage but it’s too masculine.

The bottle is absolutely gorgeous in person. While I much prefer the bottle of this version, I love the juice of the OG Black Orchid. I find that a bit less intense, more sweet and floral and much more feminine overall!

alexandris

How do I start... I feel like I never could appreciate this enough. Well, to me it's a 9/10.

One of the best in my collection, and in winter this is my first choice for an important event. It smells so dark, so earthy and so complex and classy, evolves into something different by second. The truffles, the juicy winter fruits, the booze. An open buffet for your dark soul. Eternal longevity, one of the longest lasting in my collection and in first couple of hours it will make its presence felt in a room full of people. Stands out. Do not apply more than 4 sprays though. It may be too headache inducing on other people.

Most of the time I dress so called "old money" or dark academia-esque, goes with this style also due to earthiness and rum notes IMO. Yeah, despite the funky smell of ylang-ylang. I guess this could be categorized as dark academia partying fragrance. It is dark/gothic enough to go with the athmosphere but it is loud with a twist to it. Smells more educated, smoother compared to the EDP.

My GF uses Velvet Orchid as it is one of her favourites, but in BOP she hates the smell of truffle and also boozy notes, so according to her 6/10 max. I include her opinion, because I guess her opinion reflects what most Black/Velvet orchid lovers feel when they smell this. Boozy notes and almost woody earthiness can scare you out of this frag.

Guardian2471

A very well crafted and blended fragrance that is full of depth. Just not as projecting as the EDP but the scent is still much richer though. The scent is a 10/10 and this is a fragrance that I would recommend checking out.

neslind

Love it, I just hate patchueli. Tom Ford does patchueli good, but I just cant seem to like the note at all.
However, if you are a patchueli fan, than this is a 10/10

Tonde

Great and addictive frag

bluehydrangeas

After falling out of love with the original i have fallen in love with this. To me the ylang ylang is so strong in this so avoid if you dislike that. It lasts for ages, longer than any other tom ford these days. I’d say if you like yellow florals this is a yes, if not perhaps not.

ShaneL02

Updated review:

I made a review some weeks back whining about how it was a blind buy fail and how I thought it was super weak. After some time I want to give an updated review.

I definitely like this scent now. I just got over a cold when I bought this so also my sense of smell may not have been quite there. All I got was this diluted rummy black orchid that lasted 3 hrs. No darkness, no depth, didn't wow me at all. I'm not sure if general maturation also helped with swaying my opinions but now I get dark, chocolatey, earthy black orchid with a touch of fruitiness and some rum. Longevity still isn't as good as the original black orchid but it's still really good. Definitely gonna wear this alot when the weather really cools down. I'll never learn my lesson with blind buying though 😔

Prunel

I love this more than the original. This is smoother, creamier.. It lasts 24hours on my skin, and projects heavily. Perfectly unisex, do not blind buy it expecting it to be a very feminine or masculine scent, try it on skin first.

Rjhuggi

I just love how these young YouTube reviewers think that the truffle is of the chocolate candy variety. The truffle in Black Orchid is so screatchy for me. I am not team BO by any means, to me mushrooms have no place in perfume 😖

TheScentualWorld

@endlesssummer 01/15/23. What a fabulous review, I just love your enthusiasm for this fragrance!! It is indeed a beautiful and unforgettable experience. 🥰 💯✨

Shah525

If you are not upset by sharp soapy floral opening(which I love) there is an absolutely fabulously perfected gourmand scent underneath. I’ve tried every single composition by Tom Ford. I appreciate even the ones I did not like. But the ones I love and kept are Italian cypress, oud wood intense, tobacco oud intense and black orchid Parfum. If it was up to me this one should have been called fucking fabulous. And I love the glittering gold bottle too.

Ceau de Parfum

You are going to have to keep up with the vibe of this fragrance.

If that's for you and you need some kind of motivation to channel your inner Zsa Zsa Gabor, this is going to be a little bottle of heaven for you. Incredible truffle experience with rum, plum, and Ylang ylang. Outstanding longevity stays with you. A partner that wears a black boa.

ShaneL02

Moronic impulse buy on my part. £90 for 100ml, my mind couldn't pass that up even though I didnt even really want this fragrance. There was a point where I really wanted to buy black orchid but I kind of went off it. This isn't even that strong, maybe I should let it sit? Original black orchid had far more depth and darkness (and strength) to me personally. Hopefully my mind will change on this

catcat42

It has much depth than the original. Earthiness comes from woods? It feels like that I am not sure what it is. It has the originals dna but this is more sophisticated and not just sweets. I love it even in summer. Also it is a bit floral on me than the original.

PerfumePixie87

Sexy, boozy, intoxicating, unisex powerhouse of a fragrance. For Autumn and Winter nights out only, when you want to be noticed. This is a head turner. My husband owns this and I can’t wait to experiment with it this fall. A shallow side note; I hate the flashy gold bottle. It doesn’t go with my aesthetic and therefore I wouldn’t want it on my dresser per se, but the juice inside is a high octane heady love potion!

R.diggity

On me, I could not wait to wash this off. I let it develop for an hour. I get a plastic plum scent, like if there was a strawberry shortcake doll was Plum Patty.

It is extremely unique and punchy, and I respect that. But I don’t smell anything unisex about this.

I may purchase the travel size just to occasionally be different.

Michael_Noir

It is ok, tested this out a while ago, it was too sweet for my taste but I can see why people like it. It is something I have never smelled before, definitely not a blind buy

Ttan_o

I think this would be more interesting and tolerable if the ylang-ylang note was replaced by Jasmine. The current profile smells screechy in the middle. But overall top-dry down v nice.

Lotte_Liese

What can be said about this fragrance that has not already been said? This is a fragrance with presence, intensity, personality and depth. It is very long lasting and potent, but never too much.
I would not classify this as a unisex, it leans masculine, but is a classic you can't go wrong with.

conejitadahlla

Black Orchid Parfum has a striking presence. Unlike any other perfume I’ve smelled, it’s contradictory and complex. It’s incredibly sharp yet earthy, boozy, a subtly fruity, yet spicy, and floral aroma. It’s as jarring and divisive as Mugler’s Angel, you either absolutely are obsessed with it or you totally despise it. I, being the former, will die by this fragrance. It’s my go-to, ride or die, bury me with this perfume perfume. That being said IT IS NOT A BLIND BUY! Test it on skin first.

daisybrown

umeshu // I miss you // FU :: last blossoms of late spring, department store gifts, billion dollar deals, private company dinner, private jet, whiskey on the rocks, city rooftops, I love you and only you, no matter what it looks like

Mademoiselle Rêve

DEFINITION OF LONG-LASTING (yes, in capital letters) - a pleasure or a nightmare, depending on whether you like this scent or not. I tried it, I liked the opening, but I find this scent tiring. Black Orchid Parfum is a statement, nothing subtle about it, an intense constant companion, intrusive even, and all of it coming from one (!) spritz that landed on the wrist, and, partly, sleeve. In general, I like heavier scents, but this was surprisingly overbearingly too much. As I grew tired of it, it took me washing my skin 5 times to really remove it. All of it can be positive or negative - depending on your preferences.

* on my skin - definitely feminine

*a special occasion scent, surely fitting for a black tie event

Cherry_Darling

Oh so good. This one is really popular with good reason - so rich and gourmand but boozy and unique at the same time. The earthy truffle really grounds this gourmand, it's just so damn good. Oud 24hours is an amazing dupe that is really well priced and doesn't last forever - I personally don't mind as this is a BOMB. To me this is just like the black bottle one btw.

Anyone else get coconut and mango? Or are my nostrils confused after eating that new magnum ice cream....i definitely get these notes.

canolum

This one lasts forever on me. I have to take a shower to remove it. I constantly buy a backup when I reach half of the bottle.

Nose for a bouquet

I’m just not sold on TF yet. I hear and read about people’s love for his work, but at least with this fragrance, it’s a miss for me. It seems there is vision here but for me, the ingredients don’t seem to match the vision.

It’s as though I could smell where he tried to go, but it smells synthetic to me. Will you smell exotic? Yes. Different? Yes, but there’s no realistic richness / thickness, like with LV, or Bottega. The realism of the notes is lacking to me and that’s what ruins it. Also, the bottle is part of the aesthetics. It looks beautiful, but I thought it would be a weighty metallic flask. Instead it was a paper light, plastic bottle. Not this time I guess.

Lhomme_Juanco

Just smells like chocolate with spices to my nose. Very good fragrance

Crakeling

The opening: Fruity and floral. Potent! Dry down is chocolate and wine. Nebbiolo! Love it! 10/10

wowoweee

earthy, boozy, chocolatey, plum opening. I get strong bubblegum vibes as it dries down which is probably the ylang ylang.

black orchid parfum is interesting in that the opening and middle lean feminine, but I find the late dry down quite masculine. I think it even verges on “old man smell” when you get whiffs from your shirt the next day.

this is a super strong juice that only requires 1-3 sprays for 12+ hours of scent (on clothing it lasts indefinitely). not for every occasion because it’s earthy and loud, but the sweetness of the florals round this out to be such a sexy fragrance.

JenAirz

I have both the Black Orchid EDP and Parfum. It's very difficult to tell a difference but I am so glad I bought the 100ml of the parfum instead of the EDP (just got the 50ml one). The parfum lasts... like forever on my skin. Worth the money I think. She's alluring.

Rjdee

I honestly can’t believe I’m writing this review, but I am. This fragrance, which originally i thought was a total flop, is absolute fire and is truly sexual. Both genders can wear this, and as a man who likes mostly fougeres, this stuff is wildly sexy. Idk man, I tried to resist this. This is Tom Ford waving his fragrance wand, ya dig? Thanks Tommy! Nuclear projection which is awesome.

This scent wants to wear you, and it’s your job to remind it that you are its master. But to be in control of this scent, you must be comfortable with losing control at times. Fear of losing control will result in the fragrance wearing you. A carefree confidence will have this fragrance coming back to you like a trained bird in the sky. It will be yours, and with its mesmerizing projection, people will learn something about you that is deeper than anything that could have been spoken.
Sorry, I hit the weed toooooo hard tonight.

KejaunF

This scent is different. It’s daring…confident, kinda trend setting. This smells like rich. U have to be a it type of person to pull it off. The it person is hated and loved. And so is this scent. I have both edp and parfum and they both last forever and a day. First time wearing this my wife (who never gives me compliments on my fragrances) says omg what is this you’re wearing? And proceeds to bury her face in my chest. It’sa complex challenging scent. Very high class niche level designer fragrance. 10/10 projection8.5 /scent

MikeRauch

I got this because I was curious about the truffle note listed. I will say straight up that this does not in any way have any sort of truffle note. I have worked extensively with truffles in the past. They possess this very strong essence that is very unique and instantly recognizable. This fragrance does not contain that essence, but it does give off some sort of earthy quality. Most of what I get is a strong chocolate note, with some florals, a little bit of rum, and a slight fruity sweetness. Aside from the questionable truffle note advertised, this is actually a pretty good fragrance. It could definitely be described as sensual. Off the cap and on tester it smells slightly putrid, but on skin it is amazing. Performance is as expected from a parfum. It lasts a while but sits close to the skin. It does leave a very slight sillage. I would say this is a true unisex scent as it's not too overly floral or sweet. Definitely an interesting addition to the collection. Decent buy if purchased from a discounter. Unless used as a signature scent, its too situational otherwise.

thePERFUMEDpig

I'm trying to figure out how people are getting this crazy projection out of this?! For the amount I paid for this perfume I'm expecting it to tap people on the shoulder and slap the shit out of them resulting in an olfactory explosion... But no. I've been crop dusted by farts that have projected further and lingered longer, but don't get me wrong this perfume smells beyond Amazing and unique but it's wasted as it fails to project beyond the clothes or skin I spray it on. So disappointing. Buyer beware. Not a cheap buy but you will end up feeling cheated.

endlesssummer

I love to grow and rehabilitate orchids so when I was looking for new perfume treasure to try this was a very logical buy due to the name. I ordered a sample and awaited for it to arrive. When I recieved it I quicky tore into the package and found the tiny sample. Tiny but oh how deceptive as this fragrance is anything but! My adopted son came home from work on his break and said what is that scent! I couldn't speak for a moment as I was still inhaling this new elixer. I was lost in it's unique haze, almost afriad that something that smelled so potent could be on my skin. Would I have a reaction? Oh my gosh this is intense! What is that scent? Then the mid and base notes hit and I was even more confused! Is something this strong that I cannot clearly identify even safe, maybe I should wash it off, the thoughts were coming too quickly now and I was still trying to decided if I loved it more than any other scent I own or if I was somehow transfixed in some sort of pleasurable revulsion.

At first I washed it off thinking it was too cloying and how it reminded me somewhat of sweet rotten fruit. It was so strong I honestly worried was this safe! The silage is beyond enormous! Yet no sooner had I washed it off did I realize I missed it's sweet ethereal magic. I found myself sniffing my wrist with long deep inhales missing the full dose of such a transfixing magical thing. A hint of it still lingered on my wrist sheer and whimsical. Did I hate it, no! I realized I was actually falling in love! I had to have another hit, another full spray! I sprayed two sprays and as the scent enveloped me, the room, my adopted son, my two perplexed dachshunds, the furniture, and possibly half the city block through the half open window in the other room I knew I had to have a full sized bottle, I was hooked!

It opens with a unique scent unparalleled by any other, sweet and beautifully offensive yet in a way that begs you to stay around as it blends quickly into a truffle oasis. Then the damp garden appears, flowers dripping raindrops in the heady summer heat after a sun shower has swept all their petals with sun drenched rains. Then damp earth appears and bleeds into a dirty sweetness you adore. The sweet sweat of your lover appears and you're smitten! The dry down is all this and more!

When I smell this, I feel a rush of reckless abandon, it is lost magic found. Lust and love meet and I am energized, glowing, happy, with every fiber of my being buzzing, and ready and excited for everything the day and nights hold. This is not a perfume it is an entire experience!
Pure SEDUCTIVE MAGICK in a bottle!

Tried it and enjoyed it. I think the scent is very good, but this smells so feminine to me I would never wear it. Gave my decant to my sister but I should have gave it to my girlfriend, would much rather smell it on her as it is pretty sexy!

Perfectleebeautiful

This is such an interesting fragrance! It commands attention..it’s sensual..it’s dark..it’s intoxicating & I love it. I’m surprised that something this unique has made me fall in love. I feel like this scent was made for a seductress, & every now & then I am that lol. I wouldn’t wear this often, but on some fall/winter nights I will put on one spray of my sample. That’s really all I need. I imagine wearing this scent with a sexy little black, red, or burgundy dress. This is a man eater scent for sure.

ElCaptain

I know I’m late to the party on this one, but oh what a party!!

The parfum version of Black Orchid still leans feminine especially in the sweet ylang-ylang forward opening, but settles down into a more unisex and fruity (my god those juicy plumbs!) + very subtle rum scent within half an hour. Finally it further evolves into a waxy floral. On my skin I don’t get the earthy truffle notes as I know them in the gourmet sense, but something is definitely helping this with being more wearable for us guys than the OG. Male or female, if you rock this you’ll project nothing but power and confidence, and yes, a little sexy darkness.

When they say it projects and lasts they weren’t wrong! Needs a new scale that goes beyond enormous and eternal hahaha. In theory it should be too much, but it’s not, and this is a testament to just how beautifully this is put together. Even the weighty gold bottle conveys pure opulence and luxury when you hold it in your hand.

I am completely and utterly bewitched and charmed by Black Orchard Parfum, and Tom Ford is fast becoming the house for me that is leaving the rest behind with their innovative, complex, and simply stunning fragrances. Bravo! Straight into my top 5.

Budoy

How many sprays do you ise with this to project for a long time?

Veevo

This juice would make a frigid woman horny. Even the biggest saint would commit sins. And yes - it is controversial: people would either fall in love with it or hate it. So it takes some balls to wear it - wether you are male or female.

Autumn_Moon

There is a great deal of similarity between Black Orchid parfum (this version) and the original Black Orchid EDP. Which will you prefer? I think it depends on what you expect out of your fragrance.

The parfum feels like a less demanding, more streamlined version, compared to the EDP. Gone are the medicinal and citric top notes I experienced in the opening of the EDP -- the truffle/earthiness, however, is still present (which is nice, as it's a unique note that I don't encounter often). The parfum feels more prominently floral -- it leans a bit sweeter, and it's slightly boozy. I do pick up hints of plum. It doesn't feel quite as complex -- there's not *as* much going on in the parfum. (It's not simple, but it doesn't quite lay claim to the laundry list of notes that fall withing the domain of the EDP.) However, most of the original's DNA is still present. The spices are toned down a tiny bit, and the patchouli in the base is a bit more prominent, but it's still undeniably Black Orchid. (I suspect that many people might not be able to tell the difference between the two if they encountered it on someone "in the wild," so to speak... so, if price is a consideration for you, that's something to keep in mind, as the parfum is a bit more expensive than the EDP, and the EDP is available in smaller sizes.)

Surprisingly, the parfum feels like it has *less* projection on me than the EDP. (I had expected the opposite!) I don't feel as though I'm filling a room with the parfum, and I haven't received any complaints about it. Projection is moderate upon initial application, but it settles a bit closer after an hour or so. Fortunately for me, I don't seem to go nose-blind to either version (which is always a plus -- after all, I wear perfumes because I enjoy them).

In terms of mood/ambience, both the EDP and the parfum version speak to me of darkness, mystery, sensuality, and confidence. Which one you prefer could very well depend upon your tolerance for the original's opening notes and your personal preference. I love them both, and I'm having a hard time deciding which one suits me best.

EJJ

I love this fragrance, I enjoy smelling it. You have to move through the layers, it has depth. What I don't like is that earthy, dirt smell in the opening. The dirt smell leaves in the dry down and the parfum moves closer to the original.

frederickf_

I love this by default on account of how extravagantly elegant it is. But it’s so authentic and original such that it’s not to be confused with anything else. So everyone will know what you’re wearing and when you’re wearing it. It unapologetically makes a statement. As more of a low key kinda guy, not necessarily keen on that aspect. Or the heavy floral fem lean however lovely that might be. The late, late dry down is where it’s at for me. When you’re left with that depth and darkness.

mirrorghost

i recently received a sample of this and i have never tried any version of it, so here goes. it opens sort of vegetal and earthy with a hint of florals and plum. it remains pretty linear, strangely enough, keeping that vegetal thing from the truffle going. it gets almost salty after awhile. i don't know how i feel about this one. i tend to not be into the vegetal thing unless its carrot seed. i think it's ok but not a loved or a hated scent.

Pormolu

TF Black Orchid Gold is a unique frag and this Parfum concentration gives it a loooooong sillage. One spritz should do the job. Though this frag falls in floral category to me, it has a unisex vibe with an inclination slightly towards the masculine side. The frag forces me to smell it in regular intervals, though it has a good 6 ft. long projection. Just received the package today and I am already Lovin' it!

fana01

Decadent. Luxurious. Delicious. Scandalous. Black Orchid Parfum is a panther in heat prowling the jungle for its mate. It brushes orchids and fruits and truffles as it prowls. Tough to pull off. Are you really that sexy? Really?

Tshahb

An air banquet of rare truffles and chocolate flakes, oozing and wafting, deep and dark, velvety and smooth.

Just delicious and super addictive.

This is one of the only perfumes I can sniff close up and deep and there's nothing but joy, no harshness.

I love it, it may even be the most exquisite perfume in my collection.

After a long while, the dry down reminds me of L'Instant de L'homme EDP by Guerlain, but while I love the Guerlain, this is next level. Perhaps it's the quality of the ingredients, I don't know, but it's sublime.

Rjdee

Uniquely dark. Vintage Tom Ford. Glad to see he is back doing what he does best. Performance is extremely good. Projection really pushes quite far. If you’re a person that likes to dress in a lot of black, this would for sure be a unique scent to wear at night. It dries down far better than it starts out. Enjoy

BootneyLee

Deep, dark, luxurious, earthy floral. As always from Tom Ford, you get unique. The truffle and plum make for an interesting earthy top well anchored by the patchouli and orchid with a slight hint of rum. Very well blended. For me though, it'd probably only be an occasional reach for when I need something really different. Performance is very good as usual and its definitely unisex.

John Bob

Masculine. Great for black tie events. Very strong scent (recommended fewer sprays). Gets better after 3-4 hours. 8.5/10.

Enrium

Black Orchid parfum is superior to the original in my opinion. With fewer notes than the EDP, it feels more tightly edited instead of kitchen-sink-y, is less sweet, more boozy, and wears slightly closer to the skin. The truffle really gets a chance to shine here.

BOP opens with an earthy, vegetal truffle note, similar to the real thing as in the EDP. It is richer and longer-lasting here, complemented to perfection by the boozy rum note. It is quite balsamic.

As it develops, a chocolate-patchouli accord emerges, forming an unusual gourmand accord alongside the truffle. A nicely-judged plum note adds a restrained hint of sweetness, complementing the other notes (unlike the jarring, too-sweet fruit cocktail of the EDP). Sweet, powdery ylang ylang and clean jasmine round it out, complemented by soft, warm spices.

A sweet amber-vanilla accord emerges as it dries down, with soft spices and booziness remaining as it fades. Sillage is fairly strong and longevity is long-lasting. Ideally worn during autumn/winter.

Like the original, this is unisex, but feels slightly more masculine, being boozier and less sweet. The fantasy black orchid is cleverly rendered. The prominent truffle note adds an exotic feel, as well as forming an unusual gourmand accord that works. Creative and beautifully composed. 4/5.

DrakonidOP

Wow. Is my one word review for this.

As a guy that never even really smelled the Black Orchid EDP after assuming it was a feminine woman scent, I was really blown away when the SA at a local boutique mentioned I should give this a go considering my previous purchases.

For this scent, I get deep, dark, EARTHY chocolate. It's very rich and dense which translate to luxurious and opulent instead of candy-sweet and playful chocolate. There is definitely a fruity accord to match, and again, it's done in a way where it's rich and decadent. Just adding a hint of sweetness to the deep earthy chocolate. It never goes full gourmand since it does smell like you've unearthed this chunk of dark chocolate from under an old tree and it still has all the soil around it. You wouldn't really want to eat it.

Finally, for the next few hours I can detect a vanillic boozy note- it's not overpowering since the earthy chocolate and fruit are still there, but it adds a nice "come sniff me again and again" aspect to the fragrance.

Projection was close to your bubble, so was sillage. This will be a scent that doesn't reach across a room- but anyone walking side by side with your or sitting across a restaurant table will be able to catch whiffs of this. Longevity was excellent. Applying at 8PM and a shower later, I woke up the next day and could still smell this on my skin.

Long story short, I think the Orchid name is a bit of a disservice since I do not get a floral vibe from this. It's definitely a gender bender sort of fragrance and unfortunately (or fortunately depending how you look at it) most guys might not even try this for fear of smelling like bouquet of flowers. If Tom Ford had marketed this as Black Plum or Black Truffle it might have more commercial success- but I do not mind at all. Keeps a very available designer fragrance a bit less common among the dude-bros :)

Hats off to the perfumer of this. He/She did an amazing job!

Lotus/iris

I like it, its quite unique, i dont really wear it all that often. Its best for casual nighttime use.

peachygal

As someone who does NOT enjoy the original…I’m so surprised at myself but I find this one to be a masterpiece! It’s quite different to my nose than the original, it is sweeter and more feminine leaning and just a very well rounded and balanced feminine scent (although I think it would absolutely work for men). If you don’t understand the hype with the OG (I dont) you may enjoy this one.

Ilikewhatilike

I like the black orchid dna on others, and smelling the cap from a decant, but find it too difficult for me to wear. Too powerful and the orchid note strikes me too much. I was hoping the parfum would suit me better.

I wore the decant a few times and it’s still not to my taste. It smells quality, nuclear projection. I didn’t get much booze (unfortunately) and on my skin it was too feminine. I passed it on and it smelt amazing on them. I can see this working on guys as well, but just didn’t match my skin chemistry.

Edit: I’ve tried this a few months later and I’m liking it more and more. Scent bubble is really nice and it’s not as feminine on my skin anymore. In cold weather, feels like a nice going out scent.

denishamorrison

I think this one is worth sampling. I got a free sample with an order and wasn’t expecting to like it at all based off the notes and reviews. I was expecting dirt to be honest haha. The initial spray was earthy, but after a few minutes on my skin, it turned into a sexy, alluring scent. Body chemistry is everything! This will be a winter staple for sure.

Mariyamokshina

this felt dingy and musty on my skin . I think the combo of rum , plum and truffle made it overly sweet, not in a good way but in that headache inducing artificial sweetener way . I just don’t like it on my skin .

Bugs1e

Sort of dark and sickly in a good way which develops a boozy quality. Definite ylang-ylang and patchouli after the initial fruit. Good longevity and a fairly decent projection during the dry down. Not for the faint hearted and smells as expensive as it is. Not for the summer. Dark stormy nights mid-winter in a "Ye Olde Pub" with a mysterious flame haired woman is the picture I get!

SouthernSwagger3182

I can understand why some men wouldn’t like this fragrance due to the opening though I like it but the dry down is dark, rich, boozy, like if jazz club was mixed with black orchid. Man this stuff is plus great performance and longevity.

Update 11/2023
This is a fragrance that you have to own. I find that if you don’t have a certain confidence as a man you wouldn’t wear this. Myself I find this as a boss/ sexy fragrance. It goes on quite dirty and earthy and changes into a boozy/ earthy chocolate and then morphs into a boozy floral chocolate frag. This was my sotd today sprayed at 9am and is still has a nice scent bubble at 6pm. This is one that the longer I have it the more I like it. This is a nice one to pull out for one you won’t smell like anyone else also I find it smells different on everyone. This fall/ winter it will be getting more wears.

Kallari

I don’t like the opening or any of the black orchids but I have to say this one is the best black orchid in the sense of balanced smell

AlinkaSun

This actually smells really similar to OG Black Orchid EDP. But I feel like it is a tiny bit lighter and brighter. Don’t get me wrong, it is still a really dark scent. But I think OG BO has way more “darker/heavier” notes and maybe that just makes it a tiny bit richer/darker.
I have both, I love them both equally. With Parfum version, you still get your truffle, rum and orchid as main notes. As it dries down patchouli and ylang-ylang notes become stronger. And then you have all those notes playing for a good 8-10 hours. And projection is great as well, scent will reach everyone in your surrounding.
It’s a great perfume, very sexy and provocative, it commands confidence and radiates elegance.
100% recommended

frederickf_

Love the way the truffle, plum, and rum play together here. Super elegant and intoxicating.

monkey500

Sublime!

The Ballad of Tom Ford’s “Black Orchid Parfum” is sensual, inviting, addictive: the intro - which lasts for maybe 30 minutes on my skin - is a huge burst of smooth, rich, boozy plum followed by verses of dark, earthy truffle illuminated by a melody of fruity floral notes… between 1-to-2 hours a slightly feminine powdery note comes forward but thankfully disappears… plum returns after a few hours to compliment the now smoother and less earthy truffle.

With one simple spray, even after a shower and over 12 hours later, a hint of boozy plum remains!

DpxxH

All i can say,,, its AMAZING!! Even it is designer frag, smell like high end NICHES!!! I use 2 sprays and im set for a full day!! I have also EDP and bot are AMAZING but i like more Parfum version.

Old School Tie

Once macerated for 6+ months (I think 9 months or thereabouts for my bottle) and this very very close to the original release. One spray of this and two sprays of TFTFME and you are good to go.

SprayLove

I cannot say this in other terms, this is sex in a bottle, period. Like, I don't care if you're a man, a woman, gay, straight, trans, whatever, sex is for everyone (who want sex) and so anyone can wear this and be super sexy. That being said, my wife seemed to think it smelled too masculine for her taste but that it was sex in a bottle when I wear it. Very bold dark floral with some boozy things going on. I do think it's a bit better than the original even though the original is one of my favorite fragrances of all time too. SEX IN A BOTTLE, I SWEAR!

AmakeNyasha

This one is the real deal.It is strong 💪🏿 and doesn’t fade away quickly compared to black orchid eau de parfume.
Im hooked and in love
Longevity 10/10
Sillage 10/10
Head turning Fragnance and um using it as my every day scent because i can pull it off and i am dressing that part.
I have the black bottle one and golden bottle one also.
Golden is number one

Kikibabe

I own black orchid edp and the parfum too. This one is amazing actually. Im wearing it even in the summer and I've got compliments on it. At work someone said i smelled like a dessert. It lasts a long time and projects really well. 10/10

Joseebus

Simply put: a masterpiece. Hands-down the best designer fragrance I own and perhaps the favorite of my entire collection of designer and niche alike! Signature scent, without a doubt. I love the rich, plummy-boozy punch of the opening and how exquisitely it mellows into a creamy chocolatey-orange base. Is it very similar to the original? I mean… kind of. But the differences are definitely there and at the end of the day I just think this improves on the OG in just about every way. I can smell this on my clothes for DAYS and it projects strongly for at least 6+ hours, which is really saying something for a latter-day Tom Ford. A failsafe compliment grabber.

This is classy strong sexy unisex fragrance for me.It’s a little dark because of that i find it leaning masculine but totally unisex.Don’t wear it in really hot weathers. And it smells like sun lotions i think but that’s not a bad thing.

Louismanuel

I'm I the only one that smells cloves here? Probably.
It is very much the same as the black bottle with gold stamp that I have. Redundant for me.
By the way, when I bought it, just 2 or 3 years ago, it was labled for man, now for women but who cares?

luisgoncalves.72

An absolute head turner, if you are not confident using this, this will use you. The natural orchid smell and the patchouli makes it a unforgettable fragrance, incredible!

louis.lee

I can't distinguish the difference between the EDP and this. It smells exactly the same, projects exactly the same, and lasts about the same time on my skin. Not worth the extra money for this, all you're paying is the golden paint on the bottle. Buy the EDP.

Gorilla

Fall/Winter scent but can be used in early cold/cool springtime. Love just as much as original. They have their slight differences, but still enjoy the experiences I go through - from opening to dry down. Not for everyone, for sure, but I can't get enough of this. Any recommendations on scents that has this type of complex dry down is very welcomed.

miadam728

I Love the OG and I love VO and this pretty much brings the two together.
my only wish is that Tom Ford left the truffle note out of this one. Its so good minus that one note.
Other than that it's perfection!

orangelips11

I am fall in love with the rum boozy and mix with dark chocolatey scent, intoxicating and sexy

ThatMakesScents

Smells like the OG but a little deeper with more musk.

I am appalled at the performance. After 1hr I can barely smell it on my skin on clothes longer but very faint. I need to bury my nose into my arm. This was not the case with the EDP.

For the price I won't be buying anymore Tom Fords. I had issues with Beau de Jour as well but not as bad as this.

Atomikbomb_

Original Black Orchid is such a legend to me, please don't misunderstand this review, I adore the OG and wouldn't change it if I had the power to 🖤

This however, is indisputably more wearable, and a little easier to understand. The EDP is the fragrance equivalent of a black hole...endless and intensely compelling. I wouldn't say that this is as captivating, but it's absolutely stunning in it's own manner.

The opening is really pulling into coconut territory for me. I read down a good amount of reviews here, and nobody else mentioned it. But to me, it's really coconut (or figgy, sometimes they're very similar). It's majorly creamy, and this has a smooth texture...whereas the original stays a little rougher.

I get narcotic vanillic florals in the heart, but it's not a distinct ylang ylang. They're sweet, a heavy, and a little gloopy. This doesn't even verge on cloying though, because that patchouli is nice and dry, and a little peppery. It smells a little like cinnamon. The truffle is actually quite gently done IMO - real truffle can be extremely pungent. I think the TF team went easy with it, this could've easily been overkill, but it doesn't get too funky. And really, I think the silky florals keep the truffle in check. This is more classically feminine (who gives a hoot, wear what you like).

With that being said, this is noticeably Black Orchid. Despite the differences in nosefeel (I don't care, I make words up), it's still very similar and bears the same DNA.

This ultimately smells like BO on a day off...a weekend BO possibly. Call me nuts, but I feel as if this is summery. What with the coconut/fig and the golden florals, I think this is ideal for a sulty summer night. Slightly heavy? Yes possibly, but if you're in the mood to be a little extra in the heat, I think this (maybe undersprayed) would be a glorious choice. Summertime goth 😆

Mountain_Man

As dusk approaches, your journey brings you to the edge of an enchanted medieval forest. The daylight quickly dissipates as you take your first step into its captivating darkness. Earthy. Damp. Mysterious. Eerily beautiful. The trees are lifeless. The silence is deafening. As you breathe deep, the aroma of truffle and rich plum fills your senses. In a small clearing, a seemingly magical ray of moonlight shines down upon a single black orchid and it is at once aglow. Its aura breaks the silence with a symphony of exotic florals. It’s perfume is intoxicating. Then comes the the ancient woods. The patchouli. The musty grasp of death.

Why is something so dark, also so beautiful? This is elegance with a dark side.

Mjchaelj

Dark, sinister and spooky. If you’re a guy having a hard time deciding between this and the EDP, get this one. The EDP is more feminine and has a bizzare black licorice opening. It’s definitely not for everyone. This one starts off more earthy, boozy and mass appealing. To me it’s easier to wear. The dry down is great, it smells like patchouli, and Mexican chocolate. Very nice.

Ultrazur

I think the nose for this classic was heavily inspired by the iconic truffle honey combo. This is the olfactory equivalent of truffle honey. It’s that combo that worked surprisingly well in food but I can also see how the pungency isn’t going to work for everyone. There’s just something about the funk and sweetness at the heart of the fragrance that contrasts so well. The boozy and floral accents add to the complexity. The only thing that doesn’t sit well with me is all the heavy indole at the end that’s reminiscent of something putrid but that could just be me.

Digam

Amazing I just love it even more than the edt version, the booziness gives it a richness and deeper smell, truly enjoyable, for special occasions or when you want to feel special, not to be worn every day

thotumnheaux

At first spray, this is very spicy and earthy. I can see why some people might not like it 😬 BUT. That only lasts about an hour, before it becomes much more creamy and inoffensive. This is something I’d wear to a holiday party, like a one-time thing where I’d want to feel confident and strong. Definitely not for everyday, at least for me. I think I’d get sick of it if I smelled that opening more than once in a blue moon.

ScentedPlaza

Just bought the Gold version. In comparison to the classical TF Black Orchid, the Gold perfume edition is more powdery & creamy, less in your face, more feminine leaning and has a gold sparkly vibe. That being said, I love the classy edition more, because it is earthier, more dirty, more melancholic and sharp. However, the gold edition is a strong LIKE. Very potent, but less silage. I hope this helps.
P.s. I purchased the gift set: 50ml + 10ml travel spray. This TOM FORD gift set box was on sale now for 90 euros (Europe, Spain).

komail

From distance this smells good but when you come close it smells like green tomato or persimmon. The combination of the notes just puts me off up close. I really wanted to love this but it isn’t what I was hoping for.

grapefruit352

I was so surprised today when I tested this fragrance on myself..Most of all it is indolic and musky at the same time. Tom Ford called his Black Orchid the "smell of a man's crotch"..I am sure, here it is! So, he succeeded. Also there is a strong note of the bitter chocolate (overwhelming note). I would say that is it, nothing else here.
This perfume obviously for the men much more suitable or for the specific type of women, because there is nothing feminine here.
With other characteristics, it sits quite close to the skin. (Nobody, expect me, did not notice this fragrance on me, although I did apply it on myself 4 sprays at a time). Not terribly long lasting. There is no any changes. Sounds quite monotone and boring. Perhaps in the warmer weather on the mens skin it opens up well?Well, cant know it.

Snt_Gulab

This is like a sweet earth smell after the rain hits it. I can’t explain it any other way. It smells ridiculously unique, I’ve never smelled anything like it before and it definitely is an amalgamation of the image of a black orchid because I can smell the orchid in it and the blackness I guess just comes from the depth in the earthiness of the fragrance almost like black loamy soil that got wet from you watering your garden. This would be really good mixed with a green floral.

Okay update: NOT FOR ME AFTER HEART DRY DOWN
The dry down after a few hours became reminiscent of powdery iris like Iris 39 from Le Labo which I hate. And that’s the one I least hate from Le Labo lol. It smelled so strange. Like it was trying to do too much at once. The individual notes weren’t discernible. The vibe wasn’t earthy it was more mass market powder floral but dirty. Overall so many other cheaper niche beast mode fragrances that do it better than Black Orchid. Glad I didn’t blind buy.

If you want overly expensive dirt in a bottle that’ll layer with a photo realistic green floral, be my guest. That’s the only way this can work. Maybe a pure musk? But then you’ll smell dirty but clean and to be weird. Idk I’m out. Peace.

EasySeventy

Black Orchid EDP works for me only in cold weather. At low temperature it is a strong, confident and elegant perfume. The main accords I get are the Truffle, chocolate, Ylang Ylang. Add a few degrees and it becomes cloying and unbearable.

cwavah

Nice fragrance .. heavy on Plum and rum ..

worth a buy ... prefer it to the earlier release ...

RB75

Hmmm... this is not anywhere close to original B.O. Perfume version has much less notes. It is dry and earthy. After 2 hours it becomes even more earthy and smoky. Besides it does not develop much. Basic DNA of B.O. is here but the pure magic is simply missing. Boozy, sexy, almost sweet narcotic allure of B.O. is gone. If that B.O. magic is what you love then stick with the EdP version. Longevity is also shorter with the perfume even though the opening is very strong.

chimidoro

Bit pricey for cucumber and patchouli.... (With a side of spiced, dried rose petals....)
I was intrigued by the claims that it was "creamy" and more floral than the original.
Hm...
The "floral" element puts me in mind of old roses in a flower press. This facet of the scent is the part I do like.
But, overall, I just think this is a cut down version of Black Orchid and it doesn't even share the strength or longevity of the former.

Not for me. Too much patchouli for me.
A smoky, tart, floral patchouli.

Tip:
If you want to smell like Black Orchid (et al) without the extortionate price tag, use the TIGI Catwalk Haute Iron Spray. Smells similar, but at a fraction of the cost.
Officially described as having a "Mandarin Patchouli Noir fragrance".

muncierobson

I recently bought this because my Black Orchid EDP was running out and it was Black Friday...

I love the original although I never found the performance to be as strong as others.

The opening of the parfum is chocolatey - silky cocoa powder and earthy truffle... very smooth!

The rum makes this even warmer than the original (it radiates the impression of warmth like Hypnotic Poison EDT).

Long lasting and good sillage...as it fades it's very similar to the original..

Rich, warm, sexy and smooth

I don't think you NEED both but if you love one, you will most likely love the other...

If you LOVE either, you will prob want the other anyway..

Lemxx

Oh! I dont like this :(
It smells like Black Orchid but this one has sharp note maybe it is rum but it made me nauseous! It was too heavy for my nose. I love the original BO this one is not smooth like the original. It has a weird pungentness :/

BB88

Chocolate truffle opening, evolves to an exquisite floral bouquet. Amazing stuff! Projection and sillage for me are outstanding, lasts hours - like, spray on at 7:30am and still going strong at 4:30pm. On your shirt the next day. Overspraying could cause others to want to stay away, but just 2 or 3 sprays and you're golden. Just like the bottle. Recommend highly!!

istvan.buda.779

This will be my night out the scent for Halloween partys, both on Friday and Saturday

brandybasisty

The bright fruity opening of this fragrance surprised me because I was expecting a more intense, darker version of the EDP. The Black Orchid DNA is still there, but the Parfum feels more about the mid tones being amped up to compensate for all of sharp edges of the EDP having been removed here. The base is a supporting player to the heart notes until it's a skin scent. Longevity and sillage are comparable to the EDP, so I'd recommend trying a sample of each to find out which one you like more. I prefer the earthy, dark complexity of the EDP, but maybe I'd feel differently when summer rolls around and I'm looking for something sultry.

Just ordered this online after smelling it on a test strip at Nordstrom. The second it hit my nose I knew this was a special fragrance... instantly my nose was hit with plum, rum, and patchouli. Like a delicious jam mixed with a dark booze. I can't wait to try it on my skin. Will update this review when I do...

UPDATE: Still smells great on the skin! Lasting power is decent but not as crazy powerful as I hoped it would be. I wore this to a wedding and it worked so well with my dark silk dress! Just not an everyday scent, more of an evening/night out type of scent.

Perfumeboy22

Girlfriend has both - EDP was purchased a few years back and when we smelled that one it blew us away in terms of strength. It’s extremely strong and long lasting, and unique. I expected the parfum to be a stronger version of something I considered too strong. Went to the local Nordstrom and tried this gold bottle - I fell in love right away. It’s not a scent I especially want on me, but on her it’s irresistible. She put this on at a party we went to and she was projecting and blowing away my Ombre leather 2018 like it was nothing. It’s strong, no question. And I like it much more than the EDP original.

Old School Tie

Good but still a long way off the original TFBO edp at launch, made in the USA. I find that all iterations made in Switzerland do not have the same depth, heaviness nor performance as the original. Still, this version is not bad at all.

Ferra_Verto

Finally got a sample a few days ago, and YES! This is how you do a Parfum flanker! The plum bursts out first, thick and jammy, almost stewed. The rum and truffle are exquisitely deep, rich, and intense, almost like a thick oil. The ylang lends a sweet floral balance, played up by the orchid. Luxurious and unyieldingly persistent. This sticks like glue, especially on clothes with an immense sillage. So beautiful and excellently done.

JasonsGirl

I received this in a set of Tom Ford samples and am trying it for the first time today. I've had it on for about 5 hours now. I'm really on this fence with this one. The inital spray is like, "WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!" Super, super heavy. Almost nose burning, headache inducing. (And, I love me a good strong fragrance!) The dry down is a little easier...but, I don't think this is one that I'll be buying. It's just not sweet enough for me.

tripp353

The EdP version and the Parfum version are very similar, but if you apply each to a different arm, there is a fundamental difference:
The Parfum (this version) is MUCH more flower-first.
The EdP version has flowers, but its dominant "vibe" is NOT "burying your nose into a flower" as much as the Parfum is.

If you're wondering what the difference in the smell is, there it is.

TaWeel431

Masterpiece, one of the best unique winter scent

WC415

Strong earthy black truffle dominated scent that a lot of people might find offensive, it gets a tiny bit more pleasant on the dry down, test before buying.

Montourage

I really like this perfume and it's one of the few that lasts a long time on my skin. Most colognes I have I reapply a couple times per day but this is one of the few I can enjoy all day. Catching whiffs of it often spraying one spray per wrist and two on my clothes. It is one of my few gourmand fragrances that I have and is unisex to my nose although I can see why the votes lean towards the feminine side. I would enjoy this on my Girlfriend as well. It is probably the least masculine cologne in my collection so I can see the macho men not adding this to the rotation. Probably not in my top ten favorite list but I reach for it once a month to switch things up.

milkbaby

I made the mistake of only smelling this on a tester strip before buying it. It smelled much earthier on paper versus the original eau de parfum version, but on my skin the two are extremely similar, the parfum not really earthier at all.

My skin also doesn't seem to project boozy accords very well, as every fragrance I have that is supposed to be boozy only slightly hints at the alcoholic spirit in question. So the rum which many people pick up as a big difference between this and the original is hardly there for me except maybe a tiny bit of the spice and sweet notes that one gets from rum.

The one big difference is that on my skin this parfum stays closer to the opening and mid versus the OG. After a very long time the original dies down on my skin to a pleasant sweet vanilla whereas the parfum retains more of it's character.

All in all, even though I don't get a huge difference between the parfum and the EDP, I'm not terribly disappointed. Now I have about 200 ml instead of only 100 ml of a fragrance that's really enjoyable to my nose! 😊👍

Edited to add: It really amuses me when people abbreviate Black Orchid as "BO"... There are many reviewers here that apparently enjoy smelling like BO... 😂🤣

mimahirn

I like this! It’s what I reach for when I just want to add a little something mysterious to my day. Both the parfum and EdP are just those sort of fragrances - mysterious and bold, deep and dark, a bit dirty and possibly challenging.

I have enjoyed the original often enough that I needed to try the parfum. While I really enjoy the EdP, occasionally I find the patch in the deep dry down to turn sharp/sour on my skin. This is a common issue that I have with patchouli base notes.

The parfum stays smooth, plays a little nicer with my chemistry and despite others’ reviews, feels a bit more traditionally feminine on me. The rum is sweet and smooth, the truffle is earthy, and the mystical black orchid adds some interest and depth. It’s a tough call as to which I’d prefer - perhaps it’s the parfum version. It’s what I’ve been reaching for more often. The original is in a league of its own. But if anything could challenge it, it’s this one.

Missmaassen

Black Orchid Parfum is pure confidence in a bottle! You need to be bold enough to pull this one off as EVERYONE will notice it, even with one spray. To me, Black Orchid Parfum is a mix between the original Black Orchid and Velvet Orchid. Extremely sexy and sensual, Black Orchid Parfum keeps the earthiness of the original, but takes the rum of Velvet Orchid and amps it up in the new Black Orchid Parfum. The intense black plum and truffle enhances the sexiness of this Parfum, leaning into a boozy, chocolatey, vanilla gourmande.

This lasts forever! After 12 hours on and an evening shower, I can still smell this on. Considering the price compared to other niche houses, this fragrance is well worth the cost. The only other house in my collection that can compare in terms of longevity and silage is Maison Francis Kurkdijan's Extrait Parfums & Guerlain's - L'ART & LA MATIERE (The Art and (raw) Material) line. A staple in my perfume wardrobe ❥❥

Chanel de Lanvin

I really like Black Orchid that I wear on certain occasions, this version is complementary.
The opening plunges you into a Ylang-Ylang bath to fade slightly, then end up in the black plum and the character of the black orchid that we find in the initial version.
The outfit is exemplary, 2 sprays will dress up for the day.
A no-regret purchase to have in your collection.
To be obtained before a possible reformulation or disappearance, with Tom Ford we are used to it.

PradaGodFatha

This is a great flanker to the original. Wore this to the grocery store and I could hear some guy sniff as I walked by, seemed to me like he really enjoyed the smell- I was enjoying the siliage myself. Black orchid parfum smells almost exactly like the chocolatey drydown of the original black orchid. The parfum is a lot more linear and more unisex. The parfum is a lot easier to wear than the original because it's so linear and you get to the chocolate right away. The original is a 4 stage fragrance- meaning it develops 4 times throughout its wearing. The parfum is only a 2 stage fragrance and doesn't develop as much as the original- which isn't a bad thing. That's why the parfum is easier to wear casually

Ibrahim88

At first, they look similar, but BOP more creamy and soft than Black Orchid. The two fragrances are great, but in a different way.. According to my experience, Black Oaked is better in performance..

Flippi1

Don’t get me wrong I love this fragrance - but it almost gives me a headache it’s so strong it’s amazing. The mid dry down goes tropical bubblegum on me !

Flippi1

This iteration parfum in the all gold bottle is an amazing fragrance so rich and deep the fruffle ( fruity truffle ) accent is a real hallmark of TF and makes it a must for me ! Delicious

LaContessina

This is something a real perfumista should have in their collections, even if they don't wear it.
Much has been written about Black Orchid, it's a super polarizing fragrance, love or hate.
But it's a unique concoction and was very original at its launch date (it has been copied several times since then).
Enter the BO Parfum. First wow is for the bottle, shiny golden screaming for a Hollywood star vanity.
The juice is very, very similar to the original Edp but ...better. How can it happen?
I compared the two of them side by side (one tiny spritz on each wrist) earlier this morning, and it was immediately apparent that the Parfum was behaving better. It's rounder, creamier and more chocolatey, it wants to seduce you.
The Edp is louder and a lot in your face and screams for the podium.
The Parfum gets the podium by people's acclaim and standing ovation...
I am wearing now -night time - the t-shirt i was wearing this morning when it did the test.
The left side of the shirt, that probably was rubbed with my left wrist sprayed with BO Parfum, is smelling heavenly (truffles, vanilla, chocolate and liquor).
The right side (sprayed with regular BO Edp) smells nothing.
Superb performance (it was half a spritz, really) and so warm and cuddly.
Only for winter times and high-performance, bold perfume fans.

ryder orange

Tested it yesterday and had to buy it on the spot. One of the most unique, long lasting 8-12 hours (heavy sweater), and powerful (silage 3ft) colognes in my collection. I was not disappointed. I would not wear this in the office can easily overwhelm sensitive people.

Twentzel

I've got a sample of this fragrance and when I first sprayed it, I've got shocked! It was so weird! I could not believe it would be that bad. So I let it dry down for a few hours. What happened is that I fell for it in such a way that I had to buy a full bottle for myself. It is strong, very strong. One spray is enough and stays for days on clothes. It's water-resistant on your skin too.
I don't know how to describe smells yet but, in short, smells like a wild, handsome, mysterious man in your bed. My favorite fragrance at the moment.

Sealz_ZA

I think that only a sophisticated and strong woman can wear this full stop. It requires a man to ask himself a thousand questions before approaching this woman. Intimidating but in a good way.

Carlitos

I like a love or hate perfume. Some are originally designed for ladies. Any version of Black Orchid is too masculine to be considered just a feminine fragrance. This version of the perfume is smoother and not as fat on your face as the original EdP. However, it still doesn't suit teenagers of any gender.
Its horror film darkness is obvious but not offensive. It is really my concept of a vampire scent. The feeling is deep dark but very sensual and generates a notorious amount of attraction. However, this fragrance is not all about darkness. Here and there we can spot some vibrant, floral, and happy colors. Its suppleness is also notorious and adorable. Its earthiness and sweetness give the kind of fearful but happy vibe you experienced with the movie "The Fearless Vampire Killers" directed by Roman Polanski.
It starts with a strong note of chocolate and warm musky truffles. Plum emphasizes sensuality. Then comes the syrupy booziness of rum to frame a floral accord of banana and dark vanilla of ylang-ylang and black orchid notes. The base is all about earthy and woody patchouli. It is a very well accomplished and melodic dark composition. Its gloom is seductive and appealing. I believe that more men than women show enthusiasm for this fragrance.
The performance is well above average.
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
My overall rating: 8.50 / 10.00

Opinion: The Parfum Edition fragrance is similar to the original Black Orchid Eau de Parfum, but it is smoother and less sharp. The choice between the two versions is really a matter of taste for a creamier or harder version. I've seen people choose by the bottle color too. The perfume version is € 25 more expensive.
Don't buy it blindly.

Flowersinlove

No matter how many times I smell this, I hate it. It smells like black licorice liquor. Completely gross.

MephistoPheles

To me it smells like Trussardi Scent of Gold . Black Orchid is more in your face on the first spray but it fades fast. As longevity, I think Scent of gold last longer but I had a small decant official tester of Black Orchid and not the retail bottle. Maybe if I spray from the bottle it will last longer. I noticed several times that thr small decants don't last so long as when you sray from the bottle. Mayve because when they decant it, the parfume gets in contact with the air.
To me it does not worth the price. You can find Trussardi at discounts and smell the same plum. The have different note breakdown but believe me that they are close.
So, Trussardi came up with this unisex plum scent in 2018 and a couple of years later Tom Ford come with pretty much the same scent with a niche price :)))

Fragranceluva4u

There is a difference between the original Black orchid and the parfum version. The parfum version is much smoother and not so boldly in your face. I get a velvety chocolatey creamy concoction of pure goodness.

invaderlark

Alright, I have to say this.

This is just Black Orchid EdP from 2012. Call me a conspiracy theorist all you want or tell me I'm wrong, but this is a massive cash grab for something already done before. Take the old formula, market it in a different bottle and for a higher price. Boom. Black Orchid Parfum. Sure there are some differences, like taking the rum note from the now discontinued Velvet Orchid, but this is the OG Black Orchid through and through. I'm mad that I didn't see this before, but after a couple of wearings this is what I've concluded to.

GabrielleeeeeW

Unpopular but I don't like this scent. I really thought I would based off the notes but it translates into something sickening and nauseating on me, maybe it's the rum, as I seem to have issues with other fragrances with that note. It's more on the earthy side with a bit of booziness. Not a safe blind buy. It's heavy and projects really strong, would work best in cooler weather. Leans feminine but overall pretty unisex.

carlahoffman

5 seconds and I'am in love with this warm, delicious, intoxicating perfume. A thrilling blind buy due to reading the reviews below giving me the desire to try it and so happy I did. The sweet chocolate opening with a hint of plum is a yummy goodness, to a deep, rich, floral, rum, heart what's not to love.

On my husband it is a total sex turn on, I could dive my head in his neck and never come out. To say it all day is a understatement. It has to washed out of your clothes and hair. I can walk into the room and smell it for the scent fills the room after one spray. Excellent performance. a genuinely unique scent that stand out beautifully making me feel so desirable.

its1230atnight

Go to France, make love to a sultry brunette that moans in another language, and eat blackberry preserves on saltines while laying in a bed ruffled with the effort of your love-making. That's this scent's equivalent. And, I'm here for it.

Darkstar _ Destroyer

Black Orchid seems to be a true love/hate kind of fragrance. I don't fall into either of those camps. I like it, but I'm not sure where I'd ever wear it.

It's rich and complex. Not an everyday kind of scent. It seems custom made for special occasions, like black tie affairs (not that I attend any of those myself).

It's a strong performer with a strong presence. It's not a shrinking violet ... pun intended. But, I find the truffle essence to be a bit overwhelming. Less is definitely more with this fragrance. I'd think it might be an outside-only kind of thing as it could cause a negative reaction to those around you if you're indoors. Especially in a restaurant.

Black Orchid Parfum will probably always be divisive, and that's OK. We all interpret fragrances differently and that's a beautiful thing. Vive le difference!

heatherrose

I feel like this fragrance pairs well with either an all black outfit or some velvety purple bell bottoms. It is a VIBE. And a loud one. If this is your signature scent, you are bold and I commend you. This is truly a unique and beautiful fragrance. A must try.

smellsbells

RETESTED....still not beastmode for me. Its ok but doesnt project or last as long as it should for the price.

vincentphanmao

Beast mode, unisex, I can't stand the opening (big headache, for real) but looooove the drydown.
So sadly, I only spray on my jacket, that I wear few hours after the spray.
Don't blind buy.

francesco02

@Kkardaper I'm glad my review sparked your interest. Definitely try it if you get the chance, it's definitely worth at least a sniff, however don't go for a blind buy, it's quite intense.

Kkardaper

@francesco02 This review has made me think about buying, I literally went to sleep thinking about this. As a Lana del Rey and velvet underground fan, I can't help but want to try it!!!

francesco02

This smells like the way a Lana Del Rey song makes any member of the LGBT+ community feel.
It's sweet but dark, super sultry. Smells like the way deep red velvet in a candle-lit room looks.
The opening is super boozy and dark, with rum and chocolate at the forefront, as you wear it that side quiets down, becoming overall a sweeter, musky floral, the Ylang-Ylang gives it this almost "sunny" quality that I feel like saves it from being exclusively for the cold weather. This creamy middle still has significant depth though, it's not just a floral, it's got an almost gourmand aspect to it, in the sense that you want to it, but without ever smelling like actual sweets. For the base you get this very nice, earthy, a bit smokey earthy patchouli that just smells NICE.
The longevity and village as with any Tom Ford perfume is insane.

Definitely an exclusively night-time scent, can't wait for clubs to reopen so I can wear this out, it has such a magnetic quality to it.
This is not a perfume for everyone, you have to have the confidence and the look to match it, otherwise you'll just get eaten alive by it, but if you do, this will definitely be your secret weapon scent.

This perfume as songs: Young & Beautiful - Lana del Rey; She's in Parties - Bauhaus; Venus in Furs - Velvet Underground

The very first time I've smelled this I couldn't see any notable differences between the original BO and this. Blind bought it thinking it would be different in some way so my first impression was a let down. I kept trying until it finally made sense. This is a slightly bright and sweeter version of BO, and in my opinion, it's way more usable which for me it's a fantastic thing. I love BO but the appropriate occasions for it are very rare.

BO to me, is a fragrance you wear on a winter wedding or any special event where you want to stand out and make a statement.

BOP is the fragrance you wear on a night out in town, when you want to smell sexy, confident and unique.

This is definitely a fantastic fragrance worthy of being in your collection. I'm kind of regretting that I went for the 50ml.

A must buy for all BO fans and people who like BO but they think it's too harsh / dark / earthy.

Woodykipo

I had a sample of this, and on the first day I wasnt convinced by the smell, the rum was a bit too overpowering for me.
The second day I got a bit more used to the rum and got a compliment for the smell. On the third day I loved it! Beautiful how this scent grew on me,so don't judge a scent too quickly.
The very rich and warm scent with that rum kick is intoxicating and has very good longevity and sillage.
When I have a bit more room in my fragrance collection this is my first purchase!

Kuldeep S

I get a clear almond like smell .It is a rich fragrance. I don't know how truffle smell like so may be what I perceive as almond is actually a truffle smell.

smellsbells

Wanted to like this but on me very weak with 10 sprays...tried less as well and just very linear and a skin scent

update- used up all my samples now and still feel its ok but not a wow or amazing and does lean more fem then the edp or edt. A letdown for me .

Katabetha

I liked this better than the original but I feel the added booziness which I appreciated overpowers the uniqueness which the original had, so although it is a nicer smell I would rather go for something else

spicymulberry

This perfume is a gender, frankly. It's dark and creamy and elegant, with wafts of orchid dancing over the earthiness to elevate it. I don't think I could describe it other than a deep black-purple velvet that wraps you up and clings to you in the best possible way. It's quite unique, and I think it's the truffle and the rum combined with the orchid that achieves that. This perfume really is art, and it's a gloriously sensual piece. Very sexy, and it requires a lot of confidence to wear, or else it will wear you, especially for men. Smelling this on a man is like a shot of aphrodisiac to the vein, frankly. So pick your occasions wisely!

Nurses04.

I’ve not much else to add in describing this scent. The original smell is well known and has a bit of a cult following and this ‘version’ has many parallels to its predecessor, the EDP.

I own and wear the EDT, the parfum, and the EDP. If I was to do a brief side by side comparison of all three this would be my conclusion;

The overall scent profile of the black orchid line is very similar with slight nuances which distinguishes each one apart from the other.

On my skin the Parfum is the smoothest, creamiest and sweetest version. ( it’s not a sweet fragrance but has a syrupy/boozy quality to it). I find it easier to wear day to day than the EDP. Longevity is good (8 hours) - better than the EDT, not as long wearing as the EDP.

The EDP is the earthiest one. It is rougher around the edges and ‘darker’. On me this has the best longevity out of all three (10 hours). This is a statement fragrance and people around you will either love it or hate it. ( Ive found ‘less is more’ when wanting compliments) This is fantastic to wear in the thick of winter.

The EDT is the brightest, freshest version of the scent. It’s better for spring or summer evenings. Out of the three this one has the best projection but the longevity is not as good - probably just 3-4 hours. I find this to be the most feminine leaning of the line although they are all perfectly unisex.

I really enjoy the black orchid line and can appreciate its varieties but owning the three of them is not necessary. My personal order of favourites would be;

1/ EDT - it suits my skin chemistry and I like it’s freshness.
2/ le parfum (I love the rum note and find it easy to wear in autumn/winter)
3/ the EDP. (To be honest, you cant beat this if feeling bold!)

Pianomelody

Wow! A powerful, gothic and extremely unusual and austere perfume! As soon as I heard it I had a "shock". This perfume is truly unusual and "spooky". Another Tom Ford masterpiece, with this parfum version he has created something unique and unforgettable! Beautiful Tom Ford masterpiece!!!

Sillage: 9./10

wee drop

I’ve been on a Tuberose binge for the last 12 months and so I wanted a change of direction.
Black Orchid Parfum is warm, boozy and heady; I love it♥️
I’m not a fan of gourmands, but yet this is complex enough to never stay into cloyingly sweet territory to me.
The initial truffle note adds an intriguing savoury note which suits the plum, I find the plum note strongest in it’s drydown around 5 -7 hours later. The Ylang Ylang is thankfully well balanced, as Ylang Ylang essential oil on its own gives me headaches.
Patchouli is discreet in this Parfum, just adding an earthy rasp in its drydown.
Longevity is good, as is its silage.
Just roll on my Covid19 vaccinations so I can stop shielding and go from wearing this fragrance at home to this fragrance in cocktail bars and restaurants.

oriorva

I bought this off a used item website for cheap just to test it out. I like the overall experience of the scent. Not a big fan of the plum. I don't really know which one is the truffle in the opening but I'm pretty sure I'm smelling mostly plum. It dries down pretty fast though. For some reason, it gives me a picture of an oriental clay pot market. I love the dry down, must be the rum. It sits close to the skin though. It is a sexy scent :)
Now, I'm very curious about the EDP choco truffle opening. Yum

brumbarche

I love the opening, and then the drydown, but I miss some chocolate+truffle punch in it that the og BO has - its soft and blinding darkness. I'm going to try layering them and see if that works better. This one is a rounder, sweeter version of BO. As if somebody took photoshop and applied "gaussian blur" on it to remove anything that may stand out too much. It's nice and targets broader audience, riding the current liqueur trend. I don't mind. I appreciate the novelty. I can recognize the plum jam in it. Thankfully its distinct features are not reduced by boring sandalwood. You know how some scents scream "Christmas". This one I associate with New Year celebrations and warm sensual hugs. It's more tolerable to noses that hardly appreciate perfume. I It definitely is more glam, carefree and festive than its dense deep earthy opulent soul of origin (og BO). I hope TF keeps the original in the collection nevertheless. I'm willing to fully indulge in The Parfum, but I wouldn't sacrifice my beloved BO for it. Tom, Estee, if you are going down this path, please, don't make us choose!

update: this is just ok- bo edp was unique and a beast while this is much more polite on me. not a wow.. just ok

Black Orchid Parfum is sharp off the top, and gently animalic, then it becomes like wrapping yourself in silk. It’s warm, sweet and boozy. It’s so well balanced with those light sweet florals, the juicy plum gives depth and the patchouli brings a moist and earthy base. Something gives it just a little bit of skankiness. I love it. It’s just a little. The soft white floral here is heartbreak ridge. It’s like the smell of sweet fondness secretly lulling you unawares. This parfum has such a presence there’s no way anybody’s going to miss this scent when you’re wearing it. And It performs like something really special; projection amazing, longevity very impressive. After five hours I was still smelling my own scent bubble, after six someone said I smelled very nice. This is the real stuff. This really can last. Great performance. This scent really has a lot rocking in it and it needs to be worn thus. It’s a rockstar.

This was a favorite of Brooklyn Fragrance Lover’s Carlos Powell (fragcom YouTuber). He named it best designer of 2020. His love for this fragrance convinced me it may be great. He was right. Sixteen spray Black Orchid Parfum salute! Rest in peace, Carlos. If anyone belongs on this page you do. To say you will be missed is an understatement. 2/12/21

gnrattlerjr

I get a much more intense version of the EDP. There is a slight difference in the dry down in my opinion. If you have the EDP, you wouldn't be missing out if you don't have the Parfum. It's still a nice fragrance though.

FreddyK

Really nice. Close to Black Orchid but quite different at the same time. Not able to tell what differentiates these two at the moment but I love both.

Silvuna

Wau, it stunned me, what a beast! It is more masculine and potent version of Black orchid edp, I love it but I would see it more on men than women, well a bold one can pull it off or for a special occasion, but still very bold and sexy for all genders!

AmoreProfumi

Got to sample this yesterday at my job, this stuff is LOUD, to the point it hurt my head a little. I have had and worn both the EDP and EDT (the EDT winning the #1 spot with me just more tolerable for my nose and still a beast, also just love the matte bottle more lol.) Now everyone is different, so I say if you like it strong then yes by all means go for this. Even though it hurt my head it’s still BO which I adore and could not stop sniffing my hand, dry down was superb and longevity beast mode. I just have to add that the all gold bottle is pretty yet tacky lol kinda wish he did maybe the bottle matte gold?..all the shiny is just kinda aah but then guess it matches the first spray. Haha, nice release but I’ll stay with the EDT.

bdragonfly12345

This definitely reminds me of the original, although I like this better. On my skin it's plum, rum, and patchouli. It's not my jam, so I am passing my sample forward to a new friend that I hope will love it.

Simply put, if I received both as presents, this version I would wear, the original I would regift. :)

mo choudhury

got this through the post today. now I'm a big Tom Ford fan. if like me you already own the EDP then I don't really think you'll need parfum unless...
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 unless you want it for its minor roundness and smoothness. (I'm guessing that's the rum)
but that's it, that's the only difference I can pick up at the moment. 🤔🤔
I will have to test them both for few days.
good job I got it on discount as well.
I don't dislike this, how can I when I like the EDP.
it's just as I now own both of them, it's about which one would I or do I use more out of the two.

I will have to come back to this... brb.

edit 20/5/21
so im back and just want say that I've given my EDP to my sister.
parfum is the one for me. 😊
I will always love the EDP because it was brought for my ex but she didn't like it
that's why I loved it even more, but parfum has stole the show for me.

Jagersimian

Anyone who says this smells the exact same as the EDT/EDP need to get off this website 😂.

It is a lot more masculine than the EDT/EDP but still very unisex. It is a very formal smell and not what you should be wearing daily.

Opens with a very noticeable truffle/plum that dies down to a more rummy traditional black orchid.

Projects far greater than EDT/EDP. And will lasts on skin for the whole day/evening. Spray this on your clothes and you’ll need to wash it to get the smell out !

aaronmilic

A few years ago when I first got into TF, I started buying up a bunch of stuff, whatever I could afford. I remember reading lots of reviews about Black Orchid and how a lot of men were wearing it. So I bought it. Loved the smell, in the bottle or on other people. On me, it just didn't fit so I gave it to my niece.

So then this newer version comes out with everyone claiming "this one is more wearable". So like a sucker I fall for it and once again, I have a scent I love, but not on me.

This one also ended up going to the niece.

Sultan3877

Longer lasting. Weaker projection. Same smell as the OG. That's it

sethsfaerie

I find the notes of this compared to the notes of original Black Orchid hard to believe, they seem too similar to have such different notes listed. This does have a woodier undertone vs the honeyish blast of the original. It also smells vastly different on my spouse and myself- on me it quickly shifts to a creamy sweet tiramisu like scent, on him it smells strangely like cedar. It’s quite sexy on both of us- causes that “grrrrrr I want to bite you” reaction. We loved original and also love this- however I rarely shared the original, it was too synthetic chocolate on me, with a kind of outdated scent blast- but will probably steal this more often.

To me the Parfum is a lighter (although it’s still heavy and heady), sweeter, easier to wear version of the EDP. In the opening of the EDP I get more earthy/dirty truffle and patchouli, along with a slight medicinal vibe. The earthiness is toned down in the Parfum, and I don't get anything medicinal at all. The Parfum pulls a lot of ylang-ylang (yay!!!) and to me, it gives it a bit of a tropical feel. The Parfum is sweeter overall, but I don't get any rum or booziness that is described in the note breakdown. The Parfum is more linear than the EDP, and I find them both very similar in the far drydown.

To me the Parfum is like a Summer version of the EDP, and would make a super sexy Summer date night fragrance...but honestly, it could be worn all year round. I find it much easier to wear, and the performance of the Parfum is slightly better on me. If you were not a fan of the EDP try the Parfum. My choice is for the Parfum!

I'm a professional smeller I must open all the new room sprays, and body sprays and soap to pick out the ones that smell good before purchasing so with that being said I scour makeupalley and this sight for reviews on perfume then go to ebay and by the samples before purchasing a larger size.

The opening of Tom Ford Black Orchid smelled like copper, pee and cinnamon spice. Yes it was STRONG!!! after the dry down I smelled vanilla, spice, sweetness and a hint of soft floral its ok to me could be my body chemistry. I not bad, I'm just not impressed. I would much prefer to smell this on a man who would like to smell like a cinnamon bun for me to snack on.

Once you get past the horrible opening, it becomes so beautiful. I find it more wearable than the original. I own a bottle of the original from back in 2007. It was all the hype so I had to have one. Barely used it. Still have it. I lost it during a move and then found it later in a box in the closet. Still as beautiful as ever.

Tested the Parfum and the original edp side by side and also wore the Parfum alone for a few days. The Parfum is as if the original edp took a boring pill. The original is much better; raunchier, earthier, a bumpier ride. The Parfum is sweet and smooth.

maarg

I tested it alongside the EdP, trying to see if I'd like any of these on me, and which one I'd prefer. Having watched and read a lot of reviews, most of which where either dissing the Parfum or saying they're very similar, I beg to differ. To my nose, the EdP was more complex, and definitely did change throughout the wear, while the Parfum was more linear and more potent, and I preferred it for most of the wear, except for one moment when the EdP just blew my mind (which is why I eventually want to get the EdP as well, I think). As for the Parfum, I agree that it's boozier (so the winner for boozy lovers, I reckon), and I'd say it's probably easier to wear for most people. I can't speak on the projection, but in terms of the lasting power, the Parfum outdid the EdP for me. In the end I got the Parfum and I love it, but I can also see how many people may prefer the OG.

grumpypariah

I tested this, wanted to see if the YouTubers were right about it being boozier. I am a fan of the EDP, but the issue I had was it was too floral for my taste. This one definitely softens out the florals, but again just my opinion is still too much for me and my taste.

However, I do like this better then the EDP and highly recommend it. Plus performance is a monster. Huge projection. Also, had it on the back of my hand, and over 12 hours later with several hand washings I can still smell it on my skin.

If your a fan of the DNA, this is definitely a no brainer purchase.

fyetan

Earthy, heady, musky.
Pretty strong, so it's good bang for your buck. Otherwise, not a good blind buy at all.

For a confident person, and it's quite unisex. Probably best for colder temperatures too, I can see this being suffocating in close quarters or heat.

L.A.B33

Almost indistinguishable from the original, but truly more rounded. I love it, but it is too musky for my husband. It is still something I would like to acquire once my small sample runs out.

RedLipsReview

Warm, earthy, somewhat sweet, cocooning scent. It envelops you like a fragrant black silk scarf. It is much smoother than the EDP. I don't get a lot of booze from it, but the truffle in this sings and you can smell the yellow flower in the mix as well. I think it is a lot less polarising than its predecessors and softer in comparison. Even though it is softer than the original, it's still very noticeable. Try it even if you didn't like the EdP. I am personally not a fan of the EdP, but I am spraying the Parfum all over myself.

Simply amazing :)
I have tried the original Black Orchid few weeks ago and to my surprise I really liked it, it smelled a little more feminine to my taste, but overall thought it contains enough masculinity that would fit a man very well. So after a week decided to purchase it and the price was quite expensive and I didn't understand why. I received it a day later and guess what... it turns out I got the PARFUM version and then I was a little disappointed because I thought this version would not be good enough as the original, so I tried it and.... I WAS BLOWN AWAY by how good this was the first time sprayed it, such an extraordinarily unique blend of notes (that are very reminiscent of the original) that come together at once, at first the scent is a little different and quite strong, but after that it becomes so charming and sophisticated, this is such an amazing and fascinating composition and I really have nothing to say except that this perfume is just a MASTERPIECE...Period :)
(To my opinion of course)

Scent: 10/10
Longevity: 9/10
Projection/Sillage: 9/10
Versatility: 6/10
Blind Buy: No, Test before you buy

Overall: 9.5/10
MASTERPIECE!!!!

Sex. In. A. Bottle. Period.

This one is fantastic. I thought "how could they do better than the original" and "what's the use of an more powerful version of this already so powerful fragrance" but when I sprayed it the bottle answered "yes" and "because it's hot". The rhum in there is simply incredible. One of my favorite scents. It's dark and mysterious, sensual, powerful and confident. It's also pretty excdntric and unique. You'll get flowers, the ylang ylang, rhum, all the good chocolate, vanilla and truffle from the original. Any person who finds themselves in this fragrance will boost their sex appeal by wearing this. It also triggers my creativity a lot. This is a masterpiece. Don't overspray though, this one is a beast and deserves to be appreciated not overdone.

juljan

love it like i love walking into a sweet shop/patisserie, sweet in the air and almost tangible. definitely gourmand.

i also have the edp, not sure how much different they are; but maybe the parfum is a wee bit smoother, darker. or maybe i just imagine it so.

for some reason, it comes off like a guerlain on steroids on me. but also, without the gravitas of a masculine guerlain.

this fragrance reminds me of an extremely well put together drag queen. one who wears couture and real faberge jewels. or maybe libarace. it has a flamboyancy that defies categorization except being over the top.

Went into a mall .Sampled on skin .Thought ..Dear Lord no !!
10 minutes later when I leave ..I love it .

Dark floral,heavy ,strong.Lasts a long time .
Male
Darth Vader in a golden bottle .
Mysterious,heavy and timeless ....and a light wand . ;-)
Winter,fall ,day or night .
Candle light and dark room on a hot sweaty summer night will also do ....

Prefer this over Freddy Fabulous ,which is pretty good too.

Serious stuff.Highly recommended .

I do not hate this fragrances, but do not come for me. This is not worth it in my opinion, if you love the edp. Non of the flankers works on my skin, I smell the black orchid edp DNA through all of them, and that do not work for me.

But, this is not a hate review. In my opinion, if you dislike the original I would definitley say it is worth a sniff 😊.

Burningleaves233

Ok - I don't know much about perfume, this was actually my first ever bottle of perfume, but OH MY GOD. I don't know how to describe it, but it's so good. So so good. It lasts for a long time and once in a while you get a good whiff of it and you just want to fucking faint. I can't stop smelling myself. It's absolutely gorgeous and fairly unisex, exactly what I was looking for. The only downside is the cost. You have to pay a pretty price for a full bottle, I bought a sample from a perfume sampling website because I didn't want to spend almost 200$ on a full bottle. I now have to figure out how to coerce someone I know into buying it for me for Christmas.
In short: If you have the money and you think it may be for you - buy it.

I totally get why people love the original Black Orchid. For me, it's a fragrance that I both admire and dislike. The blend and performance are incredible, but on me, it always felt too sweet, too heavy, too busy. The parfum, on the other hand, is perfect. It feels more streamlined than the original, just as smooth and strong, but not as cloying.

The ripe plum, white florals, and chocolate have been removed or lightened, making it less sweet. At the same time, the truffle, rum, and patchouli have been amplified, resulting in a boozier, leafier, earthier blend. I agree that it's less complex, but for me, what it looses in complexity and progression, it wins back in sublime sensuality. Something about the simplicity of this concentration makes it feel less dated and over the top than its predecessor (though I've never tried Noir de Noir or the EdT, so I can't compare it to those). Of all the various iterations of Black Orchid, I find the parfum the most timeless and otherworldly. There is still some sweet, juicy plum there, but this also feels less gourmand to me than the EdP.

Best in cool weather, slightly more formal/sensual, and totally genderless. Yet another reminder that you don't have to shill out the big bucks for the overpriced, obnoxious Private Blend fragrances (yes, I'm looking at you, Lost Cherry, Fucking Fabulous, and Bitter Peach) when so many of the "non-niche" alternatives are stellar.

Finally, the 10 ML travel spray came out so I did pick it up

Simply incredible, I adore this fragrance and I have over 90 fragrances in my collection to date. This is a slightly more masculine version of the EDP and stays slightly closer to the skin. However, the longevity is far better than the EDP and there is just something deeper and more well rounded with this one. Its in my top 3 fragrances of all time and I am not ashamed to say that.

marwaniq

if you love the normal black orchid, you will love this one even more, each and every note in this fragrance is more intensive and more long lasting, obviously.

lovetribe

much more chocolaty and sweet than edp. but not a gourmand chocolate. but bitter. there is so much rum. I find it less obscure than the EDP. it lasts a lot on me. a great buy. really strong performances. 9/10

EDP version is nicer, stronger. I wouldn t say this one is such bomb. Longevity a good 10 hrs.
I awated something more general.

aromano

I was SO excited to try it, thinking a perfume version of the Black Orchid edp bomb (?) Well, Tried it twice, it is sweeter, and rounder. It is nice. But not as impressive, as weird, as majestic, or even as strong, as the original Black Orchid Eau de Parfum, which in my books it is still the King. Or Queen...

Ambroxer

I was not familiar with any form of Black Orchid before smelling the Parfum. Curiosity got the best of me after this new release stirred much excitement. I ordered a sample and it arrived in a padded envelope. I put the unopened package in my bedroom and left it there for a few hours. When I returned, there was an aggressive odor lingering in the air. A few milliliters of Black Orchid Parfum made its presence known through bubble wrapping and packaging. This fragrance is not so much a beast as it is a monster.

So what does Black Orchid smell like? Well, it’s thick with a rich earthy aroma off the bat. It brings to mind moist, heavy soil. The pitch-black kind that melts through your fingers, like you may find at a plant nursery. I get the rum note too. It smells like someone irrigated their lawn with a blend of premium Bacardi and Captain Morgan. And a few deep inhalations is enough to make me feel buzzed. Truffle and of course orchid add an element of gourmand sweetness. I get the Ylang-Ylang maybe wafting in the air at times and it does become more present as the fragrance matures, which gives off a mysterious vibe. By and large, though, truffle is the real heavy hitter and it is very raw. All this comes together to create something akin to the Godzilla of fragrances. Black Orchid Parfum is a behemoth unconcerned with anything in its path. More a force of nature than either masculine or feminine, this thing is genderless like a hurricane.

Fragrance, certainly, is an offshoot of fashion. Black Orchid Parfum comes across to me like haute couture runway looks you’d likely never see worn in real life. I respect the artistry, but don’t see the practicality. I know there are many that enjoy this fragrance and the range it comes from. I respect you for it! This is maybe the most complex, deep and challenging fragrance I’ve come across regardless of any designer or niche classification. However, at the end of the day, I have no doubt Black Orchid wears me. Like a small child stepping into their parents’ shoes, this just doesn’t fit.
