This is a sexy smoky fragrance! This is absolutely stunning to me - in the beginning I felt light it was too leathery but omg this is so sexy and addictive. This on it's own is a compliment getter, while it leans masculine as a woman i like to wear this on it's own, or mix it with a sweeter fragrance. To make it more feminine I like to mix it with Jasmine Rouge TF or Velvet Rose and Oud JM, sexy!!! Sniff it first, not a safe blind buy.

Fragrance - 10/10
Projection - 8/10
longevity - 8.5/10

First smell jumped me back to my childhood. Smells like a church. (Love, peace, harmony, unity, gratefulness, family, care, wholesome, bliss.)

If you think of scents as something that can take you on a mental journey, that is what this masterpiece does.

It's less of a "cologne/fragrance" and more of a reminder of the soft, gentle roots of a caring upbringing.

It's truly a hard smell to hate.

THIS IS A COMPARISON BETWEEN

Fragrance World Ebony Fume
AND
Tom Ford Ébène Fumé

The Fragrance World clone, which I bought a bottle of for $30, focusses slightly more on the ebony wood and is more projecting in the opening. The Tom Ford decant I have, is just better blended right from the jump, so I'll give the clone 85% close in the opening. But the problem with Tom Ford is they're not concentrated enough to be projecting, this is a main complaint of his fragrances.

But after 30 minutes to 1 hour, no bullshit in the dry down these two become almost indistinguishable... almost. The Fragrance World still has a slightly stronger ebony wood note but it's very damn close to being spot on. So in the dry down it's 90% close, yes! I hate it too, but sometimes clones just get that damn close.

I hate to say this, but buy the fragrance world clone, but for display purposes the Tom Ford name still carries weight and have better quality control on the bottles. My Fragrance World clone has a ever so slightly crooked sticker lol, but it was $30 so everything can't be perfect.

Came back to change the longevity to eternal! I’m so happy I don’t go nose blind to this magnificent sandalwood/incense concoction! I left silage to moderate, it’s not a massive projector but leave a gorgeous scent trail. I just got a compliment standing in line at the post office and I sprayed up 6 hours ago. I’m happy this stuff lasts a long time, not only because it’s expensive, but mainly bc it’s a gorgeous fragrance that makes me happy. 9/10 all the way

Veronjn111

Smells like a Catholic funeral

LeechDaPeach

Love this fragrance. Was given a travel spray for free by a Tom Ford rep back in November. (Also gave me Myrrhe Mystere as well, even though they smell identical)

The overall scent is extremely strong and unique as it smells exactly like an old church with incents and smoky notes.
Definitely not an everyday wear for office or first dates, more for like an exquisite suit and tie gentlemen at a cigar lounge or fancy poker nights. I have only ever worn this fragrance at night in the winter months. The projection and longevity are strong it smells as if you lit incents on in your home right next to a fireplace. Not a safe blind buy as it is very niche and has a particular experience that it goes for

kida2010

Gorgeous but zero projection. I wear 5 sprays to work and nothing. Smells incredible though. Very diluted birch tar so it’s not a strong smoke, blended with all the sticky modern sandalwood molecules, labdanum and incense. Overall comes across sweet and Smokey without the vanilla vibe. Hangs around for a few days on clothing but you really have to put your nose on it.

YourFragranceBoo

Probably my fave Tom Ford Fragrance! This is simply smoky palo santo goodness and it makes you feel pure like you've just freshly repented from your sins.

Transgress away, then spray some of this on!

TBH layers very well with Eilish No. 2.

Nerdboy83

I normally type a longer reviews, but I'm going to keep this short & simple.

Smell very similar to "Frankincense essential oil" but with more depth & some luxury added to it. Smells more aromatherapy than a designer fragrance.

A mature scent that men & women can pull off. I wouldn't imagine too many people younger than 30 years old liking this one.

Scent Detective

A nice Palo Santo Sandalwood fragrance that has a massive black pepper presence. I also smell the incense and papyrus as well, but the black pepper is a major player on my skin. Eben Fume does not actually smell like Serge Lutens Santal de Mysore, but it does have a thickness to it as does SdM, but where the Lutens follows a slight cumin spiciness along with benzoin's sweet vanilla waft, EF goes peppery and smokey. I like this perfume...not as much as I like Santal de Mysore...but this is still a very nice fragrance on my skin as well and I would recommend it. Although, as with all fragrances, I'd sample it on your skin before committing to a purchase.

Mjchaelj

This is just smoky palo santo. This has the vibes of an old church, with the incense, wooden pews. It’s very similar to Bois Morocain. Performance is really good. I got about 10 hours.

vanillacologne

the scent is exactly like the smell of giving the skankiest bj ever and then having very sweaty and passionate sex whilst sandalwood incense is burning and it’s raining outside. not a bad smell, and it’s the type of perfume i like. as TF said, there’s a little bit of balls inside all his fragrances and here, i can definitely smell it.

Ferg1

I like this one, some good smokey-sweet wood. Perfect amount of rose, violet and resins to balance the fragrance. Gonna get this.

Koku doktoru

NadiasmellsGorgeous

This is my wife’s signature scent. On her, it smells like a creamy sweet smoky sandalwood with a hint of powdery violet and labdanum. It leans more masculine, but can definitely be pulled off by a badass female.
This is worth the price, and lasts (on her) for up to 8 hours. The sillage is also gorgeous and gets compliments. I will get this for her for every Valentine’s Day.

JAIDEEP13

Is it me or does this smell sweet. A bit like sweet IRN Bru (the drink). Anyway love it. Could be a bit longer lasting though

mihuco1217

I freakin love this whenever I get the chance to sniff out some Tom Ford fragrances. It's nothing too extraordinary, but I definitely love the scent. I'm picking up smoky wood and amber and strangely enough not too dry as some might say. I've developed a liking to deeper fragrances like this so it's no surprise I'm loving this. This fragrance also sticks on my skin quite well to the point that even if I try to wash it off I still get remnants of it, and even then the fragrance is still just as good. I've also smelled myrrh mystere and I believe it has the same vibe, but definitely still a different fragrance. Since I wouldn't allow myself to purchase a 50ml with the price of the more expensive TF private blend line, I might settle for this instead .

in.limbo

mouth watering just imagining layering this with TF Vanilla Sex... I would be UNSTOPPABLE!!

TWN2RBO

2022 batch here A22*
As in most cases, the “this perfume reminds me of” section is absolute trash on here. It’s quite sad. This fragrance literally smells nothing like the ones above…
Sprayed this on my forearm to sit down and relax. It’s been about 2 hours now. I really love this offering from TF. It starts off as a gorgeous creamy sandalwood that meets incense. It has a tinge of sweetness to draw it in together and also makes this a great unisex fragrance. I absolutely love it. A must try. If you love woody / incense fragrances, you have to try this.
**Next morning - 14 hours later, still on skin and I can smell it moving around. Nuclear longevity!!!!

EaudAlan

This is a powerful and smoky scent best suited for cold days. Strong palo santo and SMOKE. I can see how some people think it's a bit simple...I would have to agree. Nonetheless, it is one of my favorites. If you like darker, woody scents, this is awesome. It performs extremely well and is very pleasant.

Odor Aeternitatis

This one is a woody and smoky fragrance. To me, it's neither unique nor interesting. There are many more better options if you like the scent. If you like this type of scent, try the fragrances from Amouage, especially the recent ones like Purpose. They are much stronger, richer, and better quality.
6.5/10

Mdellaroc

This is the kind of smokey, woody scent I wanted. Elevated, refined and delicious. I think it smells wonderful on anyone. Perfect TF.

lolitamuse9

I bought this for my husband - it smells intoxicating on him. The performance is fantastic as well, I can always smell him from the room over when he's sprayed this on. It's smoky and seductive.

Jaype

I adored the smell of this, but it is quite simple.

The salty camphorous nature of this took me back to Holland eating salted dropjes with old men (intense salted liquorice sweets) in Friesland and Denmark.

Strong resinous and smokey frankincense with pepper works well but I can imagine this could be too incense-heavy for some.

The problem is that the delicious intensity of the opening (pepper and camphor) only holds for about half an hour. After that, it becomes a skin scent. For the price, I do expect more.

That half an hour though, is fantastic.

Flawed though, this needs a better fixative or reformulation into an extrait or oil. As an EDP the intensity is good, but the performance is just broken. I could not recommend it at the current price.

Edit: I was being nose-blind. This is quite strong stuff.

A while into wearing this I'm also starting to notice a screechy pickle-juice note. I now realise this is what I get from synthetic sandlewoods, which is a bit of a shame as I find that puts me off wearing it.

That knocks this right down to a 6/10.

dudebro

Ebene Fume is luxurious and smokey, made with exotic woods that leave a beautiful winter sillage. worthy of the TF private label imo. very resinous, with just enough smoke and palo santo to lift it into the air and keep it from being oppressive.

JR2022

Smoky, woody, Amber in that big Tom Ford way. I’m wearing this together with Agent Provocateur.

Yolis

Church resin-y incense but without smelling like an ASHTRAY. You know how some perfumes smell like cigs or literal burning? This doesn't on me, it's a very soft creamy herbal fresh palo santo. I think the cade oil and papyrus are pretty apparent because on a blind sniff I could almost smell fir or some kinda christmas tree. It's a fresh green forest-y smell but not too 'Rugged Men's Body Wash Blue Bottle' typa forest.

Smells like you cut a tree in half and the sap is fresh smelling and herbal and you're burning palo santo next to it. Weird visual, but very calming and pleasing to me I really like it.

LeahBear

Dries down identical to Eilish no.2 I have both and the only difference is a more discernible incense note in the opening of the TF that last about 30 minutes. They both have terrible longevity in my opinion. Both wear very close.

kispo

The fragance is great but it does not perform🙁 sillage is very weak and it doesn't last long ...

Nova789K!

Amazing fragrance. Woody and light smoke. Projects strong. Have to somewhat understand ebony wood. Concert violinist and ebony is represented in the bow and violin itself. A strong wood that sinks amongst water molecules. Ebony is an in demand commodity. Don’t know if only scored wild or now a plantation wood. Though probably takes time to mature. Beautiful extremely woody fragrance. Extreme is not to take lightly. Leans somewhat toward masculine. Though both sexes can wear it. Keeps you company especially during the cold of Winter.

NadiasmellsGorgeous

I bought this for my wife because she loves Santal 33. It was so good it’s now her signature scent. It smells like a beach bonfire (in a good way).
There scent has great sillage and i can smell where she’s been in the house.
It is intoxicating, sometimes I just go up to her for a sniff. It is unisex, but leans slightly more masc.
Tobacco vanille is the more feminine version.

ean10775

I’m not one of those people that gets dill pickle from Santal 33, but I definitely get it here in the opening. The pickle scent persists for about an hour on my skin fading slowy, becoming more dusty before turning to an enveloping church incense. The smoke here is not what I expected. It does not smell of burning or ashen wood, rather it is light and airy, drying the back of my throat. It is burning incense, not wood. In fact, I pick up little to no wood from this despite the name of the fragrance or its collection. I see how this could be calming and meditative and I like it (minus the opening), but Ebene Fume is the scent of a place rather than a person. I’ll stick with Bois Morocain if I’m picking from the Enigmatic Woods collection.

GTodorov

Absolutely love the smell of it, could safely say that it’s my signature scent. As for the performance … flop! Poor projection, poor longevity. Can be barely noticed on my skin after 2-3 hours, which is completely unjustified for a fragrance retailing at such a high price!

SammyyyZEEEEEEE

Blind bought this last week and my oh my this is strong.

It does have that Tom Ford DNA that one might find in things like Tobacco Oud, but this is a beast. Smoke, incense, camphorish fumes. After that more smoke and more fumes that go on for ever on clothes.

It’s like hovering over church incense inside a smoker surrounded by a campfire.

Not sure that one would want to smell like this at any point during the day. Not office safe, would be way too off putting for a date.

jcarolinajr

I’ve used palo santo wood and other well-known wood incense for prayers and meditations for years. Therefore I regard this fragrance in that light and the null hypothesis prevails; i.e., there is no relationship as far as I’m concerned. Scents that are used to purify the atmosphere for prayers and meditations occupy a certain place for me and that place is more rudimentary to function and purpose. To many others who believe or think that scent is scent may take a very different view, and that’s as may be for to each their own. It’s just that while I adore smelling incense purifying the atmosphere in church, I personally prefer not to purchase that same scent in a bottle nor wear it in more casual settings. But, you do you. ☺️

KöbiD

A few minutes after spraying, the woody aromas are enveloped in a lovely blend of spices that then slowly gives way to an airy smoke facet. However, given the name, I expected to smell some more smoke in here. Instead, I perceive more of a fresh spiciness along with a mixture of non-specific woody notes, and some leather, in the background. Sporadically, I get a waft of palo santo. I also get strong cypriol vibes, this is most probably the papyrus that I smell here. Ébène Fumé is nice, but nothing outstanding in a market saturated with woody fragrances in all price categories and qualities.

jomac82

Glad i sampled it. I have and love Oud Wood, Ombre Leather and Neroli Portofino, but this? Powerful and different from the fragarances i have, but dont personally want this DNA at all on my body. TF has some great stuff, but they also have bad ( to me) stuff, and this is a miss.

lumberjack

It slowly and very sexily evolves into Santal Blush.. Which is damn awesome! 🫴🏻✨

AnnaMagenta

The scent itself is what I expected from By The Fireplace. Smell of an old cabin with cracking cedar logs in the fireplace. And to make it more exquisite there is touch of incense and myrrh.

I only disappointed about leather and ebony wood notes that made this fragrance more mass appealing towards men. But I appreciate that there even there is no Oud note it managed to maintain quiet luxury quality.

Also, this fragrance is not easily to be layered as it is a powerhouse. However I like to mix it with Noir de Noir TF to calm down the NDN vanilla and wrap myself in the coziness.

liikeri

Almost blind bought it, luckily i didn’t coz it’s not cheap!

Nothing i pictured in my head - it has this sour-dry-screechy metallic backbone to it
Not my thing, but if you love it; rock it!

Ground hound

It is very coniferous. Even Christmassy.
Pine sap and bark among warm amber and cold leather.
That incense note is barely there and resin+leather swallow it up with no trace.
Yes a pinch of black pepper, yes a puddle of heavy timber.
Funny how pine/conifer is not in the notes although it slaps you in the face withing miliseconds of smelling the perfume.

Basically Encre Noir meets Tom of Finland.
Great scent, and I'm not a die-hard TF fan or a fan of his awkward layering but this one here is really nice.

Nova789K!

I first tried it out couple months back. I wasn’t impressed. The other day, I was at the airport and sprayed it on. I reconsidered that old vibe. Now, I am impressed, I bought a bottle. I have been won over and then some. The scent and trail is something I need in my life. I love it.

mlleghoul

Ebene Fume with its incandescent glowing cacophony of sunset woods majesty, spider-pronged and prickly tines of moody-fiery black pepper, and the mystical ambiguity of palo santo’s piney/licorice/camphor vibe is a brazenly beautiful scent, perilously intense, and all consuming. Smoky, regal, and fearsome, a tiger queen who set her kingdom on fire rather than see it fall, the incense burned on an altar of protection, invoking darksome saints with flaming swords. Desperate, dangerous prayers granted in gorgeous and terrible ways.

MarieLlwyd

Incredibly beautiful and exquisite scent. Initial impressions put me in mind of B683, albeit with gentle smoke, a touch more incense. But the core is very similar. That’s a good thing in my view.

Attendees at church or chapel will recognise the ambience. This is a scent for prayer: calming and healing.

TessaG

This is a precious fragrance. I used to make soap, bath, body, and makeup products, so I'm very familiar with individual notes - however, I'm not sure everyone would be familiar with some of the woods in this, so I'll use some more common woods to compare them to. For me, this smells like the slightly sweet Atlas Cedarwood, perhaps with Rosewood combined. The Rose note is subtle but necessary in my opinion. You definitely pick up on the incense note and a bit of spiciness from the black pepper, but again, it's subtle. I don't smell the smokiness on my skin but others have picked that note up. So beautifully blended, but as others have mentioned, I would only use this on special occasions - for me, date nights, summer evening gatherings, winter evenings would all be appropriate occasions if you're inclined to spend the money on it, or get a sample. NOT screechy or overwhelming, but soft and oddly reminiscent of a hot summer evening.

OG_Stewie8564

Love at first whiff! I'm quite broke from my massive collection though. 🫤 This fragrance reminds me of my signature scent Loewe 7 Anonimo but instead of just incense, long-lasting Palo Santo infuses your skin and the ebony is a great addition. This fragrance is not for everyone due to its heavy, masculine, and smoky scent but I definitely recommend you check this fragrance out next time you stop at Nordstrom or Sephora! Overall, 10/10 🤩

easybaymike

Very Smoky, Very Woody. Where am I supposed to wear this? I don't play poker, I don't go to Vegas or to gentlemen's clubs. I'm not huge on camping. I'll ride a horse if I have to but I'm wearing Myrrh & Tonka for that.

I concede the dry down is delicious and addictively resinous and I really wish it would project on me but sadly it doesn't. So I guess imma have to buy you dinner first

Whateverwhocares

Incense and resin. Smoke instead of vanilla extract (thus miles above myrrhe). Good stuff. Dense, opulent and masculine, but somehow typical. Over refined. And with that, this concoction just retains a good rating. 🙂

Lovaloo

Ébène Fumé has the same smoky, bitter leather note used in the other Tom Ford releases like Ombré Leather & Fucking Fabulous. Here it's dialed down, with spicy, resinous ambers, woods, and incense. I normally dislike dry wood notes like guaiac & mahogany because they smell abrasive to my nose, but they blend harmoniously here, this is smooth and skillfully composed.

I enjoy this release a lot more than the other leathers I've tested from Tom Ford, my brother (who normally doesn't comment) likes it too. I might have to try the Boobie Eyelash dupe.

hc123

I just tried this on skin, Jazz Club meets Ombre Leather with a dash of Fahrenheit. Opens very smoky and woody then dries down resinous leathery and sweet. Really like it but the first 30 minutes can be a bit stabbing (Palo Santo? Violet?). Good projection for first few hours and great longevity on the skin 10+ hours on me. On clothes this stuff latches on until washed

JusttheFactsMan

#406 in my "Tour de Fragrance"

This is as delicious as a scent can get. I love this better than anything else I've trialed from Tom Ford. This was a decant, but I will order a full bottle after the holidays. Woody, ambery, nice leather, very aromatic, only the good stuff here. I probably wouldn't use this in any close spaces. Really projects for the first hour. But for date night, like dinner and afterwards, if used conservatively, I think it's a runaway winner, and worth that painful Tom Ford price to me. If I could only have one fragrance, I'd be pretty happy with this one. Still a very strong skin scent at 9 hours.

dcjimr

I found one of the big decanters for a ridiculously low price but couldn’t test it beforehand. I needn’t have worried as this is a gorgeous fragrance. Ever so slightly smoky, sweetly balsamic, with a stunning dark rose in the background. Love the review below linking this fragrance to Noir de Noir. Best blind buy ever!

hc123

Only smelled It on the strip but I get a jazz club vibe without the obnoxious ashtray notes. Quite like it but the price is prohibitive.

Heatherlaurenw

This smells like lighting candles in a dim chapel. Flame-warmed wood, incense, a slight hint of sweet florals. Beautiful.

audreyg

I don't think I've seen anyone say this but the DNA in Ebene Fume is very close to that in Noir de Noir, in my opinion. Ebene Fume is like the spicier, woodier, younger cousin to the mature, distant, and elevated Noir de Noir. They both have the same semi-sweet rose and woody base but the sharpness of the palo santo, pepper, and smoke in Ebene Fume modernizes it. The rose comes out on me more than I've seen others say and it's definitely a sweeter rose without any powder. The palo santo and woods dry down to a beautiful sandalwood-esque with the rose hanging on for the lifetime of the fragrance. Absolutely beautiful and original, at least to me. It's certainly possible that with all the rose and wood that comes out of the Middle East something very similar has been done before.

Ebene Fume is a masterpiece and although I promised myself I wouldn't buy any more outrageously expensive TFs....I'm finding myself craving a full bottle. I thought I didn't like rose but I'm building quite the pattern here 🤦

Edit: Upon a couple of weeks and direct comparison, Billie Eilish 2 is a dead ringer for Ebene Fume. The similarity of the palo santo-pepper accord makes them nearly identical. On dry down the rose in the Ebene Fume gives it the same sweetness as the vanilla at the base of Billie Eilish 2. On a blind test I actually could not tell the difference.

LeahLennon

Just received a sample from the Sephora sale today, and was planning on giving this to my husband, but nope.... I'm keeping it! ....Ok Ok, maybe I'll share it.

It's too good. It's a whole vibe! Smoky, woody, sweet, expensive, dark, luxurious. We are heading to Vegas this weekend and this is definitely coming with us for those cool desert evenings.

LostSock

I genuinely expected to love this. I adore dark, smoky, woody scents, the notes all appealed to me, I saw two of my all time favourites in the 'reminds me of' list - one being Gucci PH (which it smells nothing like to my nose) surefire winner I thought.

The opening reminds me of gravy, took a while to even think of what my brain was telling me as I was consciously trying to think of perfume notes, but it eventually came to me, and it's gravy, a properly made one with beef stock and a huge bouquet garni added. Then after a few minutes the gravy smell had gone and it was straight up TF Black Orchid, that's all I smell now on my hand, a less potent, slightly dirtier version of Black Orchid and unlucky for me I don't like Black Orchid at all.

A very rare blind buy fail for me, but I'll be decanting and selling it on so I'll get most of my money back at least, plus get to keep the bottle for display. I'm sure some will adore this scent profile, but it's definitely not for me at all, and that's fragrance in a nutshell really, nothing will please everyone.

ebm92i

This stuff is gorgeous. Definitely not for everyone to like, because it carries that Middle Eastern Luxury vibe, and I'm talking about that woods, leather, incense, oud, labdanum notes that gave off that vibe.

dan99

Damn this thing is incredible and I am surprised not many people are talking more about it. It has a very high dynamic range meaning it changes scents throughout its journey as it starts woody and smoky then leather, then to sweet resins. One of the best new fragrances releases that I have smelled.

Tripokaridos

For those saying Tom Ford lost it... Try this with open mind .
One of the best TF in my opinion.

JaguarXF1975

Yes. This brand is going back to bold fragrances. It’s an excellent update on the original M7 from YSL. I wonder if the designer of EF had Tom Ford’s classic creation in mind. Magical incense, smoky woods, resins and a touch of sweetness.

karlovonamesti

Holy palo santo, Batman! Ébène Fumé hits you in the gut with all the energy of the most lucid and three dimensional palo santo note I've ever smelled in a perfume, and it maintains that laser focus for the duration of the scent, with only brief interludes of labdanum and smoky resins to accompany it. There is a much subtler undergirding of incense (recalling Flores-Roux's now-defunct Sahara Noir), and this helps to balance the challenging aromatic centerpiece, but you really have to love palo santo to fully invest in this perfume. Still, great work.

Suliciu

Nice scent, long lasting, the dry down goes really close to Black Afgano. Way too expensive

bigboat83

Similar to Myrrhe Mystere, except much lighter on the incense/smoky smell. Don't get me wrong, this is still plenty smoky/incense-y, but in my opinion, it's a more toned down, palatable version of Myrrhe Mystere. To those who aren't a huge fan of the "church smell" (burning incense) vibe that MM gives you, but still like the overall composition and formula (resins, woods, incense) you're going to love this.

The opening is heavy on the incense, which over time blends back into the other notes on the dry down to achieve a smoky, woodsy, sandalwoody, luxurious scent that seems to sizzle on your skin.

I wandered into the perfume shop and was looking to buy a new perfume to add to the collection, unsure of what to buy, I wondered into the TF booth, where the wonderful lady showed me a collection of perfumes. All of them were exquisite, however, Ebene fume caught my nose the most, the rich smoky incense coupled with the leathery drydown was amazing, I bought this on the spot. When I had a chance to wear this today, I was blown back by the amount of second looks I got as I was wandering with my friends.
person who smelled you will remember you as the smoky man, being almost mysterious (in a good way)
Would rate it a 8.5/10

blkleather_redlace

At first overwhelming pine, then sweet vetiver. Sort of a piney encre noir.

latespring

E rly likes the smell of this in my hair

magambi

My GF loves this scent on herself. To me, it smells like Home Depot. I call it "Eau de Lowes". Not a bad smell, but I don't know why anyone would wear it. I could see layering it with another scent maybe. Yet my GF loves it on herself. Maybe her nose picks up something I do not. I'm rating it a "Likes" to be somewhere between her "Loves" and my "Meh".

Oud+Cards

The quality of this is outstanding. NOW, the scent profile is niche, but not unseen.

I get a very dark smoked wood-resin scent with a bitter freshness backbone. Very peculiar but apealing.

For me it's a (Way way more) refined version of Bentley for men intense. But to the point it's like comparing a Seiko to a Philippe Dufour. Very well made, balanced composition, amazing scent and durability with a slightly above average projection.

The only cons I can think of are the price and the fact that it might come as "old man smell". But this is LOVELY, the Fume (smoked) side of this is so amazing.

Tembacat

Immediate impression is that it smells like a church. It reminds me of being a kid and pretending to pay attention in the old wooden pews, which isn't necessarily the kind of scent memory I wish to wear. That being said, the longer I have it on the more I like it. Just like I said in my review for Soleil Brulant, this would possibly be a better candle than a perfume. Smells like a lumber yard meets a church meets a saddler workshop. Sophisticated yet rugged. I almost hate that I am loving this the longer it is on my skin because I don't know when I would wear it. It feels masculine on me, but that rarely puts me off if I like a scent. I would find this very sexy on a man despite my initial memory association, as it develops into something quite complex.

Devilicious94

received a sample, sprayed on paper, just very dry hay burning smoke. reminds me of a cowboy circus. Not a smooth or luxurious or creamy woody fragrance, very blunt and in your face smokey wood. Wearing this in a place that doesn't have farms or wood processing factories nearby is very odd. Very masculine leaning fragrance but if you believe you can pull it off as a woman go ahead.

Bendking

tested this today, its pretty nice. not my favorite leathery opening, but after you get past that it becomes a sweeter amber leather fragrance. definitely unisex, and not a gross intoxicating smoke scent, similar to the one in by the fireplace. it smells expensive and exotic.

astralmonad870

Smells exactly like Penhaligon's Inimitable William Penhaligon but much smoother, and nicer to me. Fragrance World's dupe, Ebony Fume, is a pretty good version for £18.

franchizzy

Great scent I think the longevity and projection potentially lacks kinda like how Cedrat Boise in regards to the sprayer/atomizer. I think that part sucks, because every time I have used a decant sprayer I’m getting crazy beast mode projection and longevity.

Update. By pressing down fully on the sprayer and closer to the point of contact will increase longevity/projection. Definitely a reminder of Gucci Pour Homme 1 and Tobacco Oud which is win win for me now that GPH1 is discontinued and TO is priced very high. I suspect this fragrance will follow the same trend in cost. Get it while it’s cheap. It’s very smooth, silky, woody, boozy. I did compare this to Pure Malt knowing both will smell differently but I just wanted to see the booziness from both perspectives here. EB is crazy refined. Perfect for fall and I can’t wait to wear this. I think there’s a comment below that mentions the name of this fragrance should have been “Hollywood” and I can totally see that. I’m quite disappointed it wasn’t tbh but maybe there’s copyright issues, and if there was I’d call it “Holy Wood” which I dare say would garner more attention. All Tom Ford needs to do now is recreate GPH2 in a private blend and I’m happy.

Update, once again I am reminded of TF Tobacco Oud, I just can’t fathom getting that when this is out there plus if you didn’t like Tobacco Mandarin and don’t like that price point along with the cumin notes this is a strong try if the cumin held you back from the Byredo purchase. I’m so happy to have Ebene Fume because as I mentioned the reminders of GPH2, TO by TF, and now Byredo’s Tobacco Mandarin I am confident that those purchases would have been redundant.

Ébène Fumé opens with a nice peppery smoke. The smoke quickly fades away and dries down to a spicy (a spice cabinet spicy not a pepper spicy) resinous amber. Once it's close to a skin scent, it is warm, woody, and ambery.
Appropriate for the colder seasons.
This is a labdanum and resinous heavy, dry woody scent. Some people detect a sweetness in amber scents, but I do not, and for me this fragrance lacks any sort of sweetness.
I also do not get any floral notes whatsoever.
Ébène Fumé is marketed as a unisex fragrance, but it's a very masculine scent; you could even say it's too masculine for some men!
I'm not sure what demographic was in mind when this perfume was released, but to my nose, this one is for the very seasoned fragrance connoisseur. Or, a very serious, mature, stoic, dark, brooding, and well distinguished gentleman.
As soon as I smelled this fragrance, it immediately reminded me of Serge Lutens' Ambre Sultan. It's not a clone, but certainly took a lot of inspiration from that fragrance.
If you like this fragrance and do not want to pay the hefty price, then go for the original masterpiece, the perfumers perfume, Ambre Sultan.

alessandrolertora2000

This doesn’t smell at all like intense oud from Gucci this is much more oriental and spicy whereas intense oud is a basic oud strong and mass appealing oud
This smells to me like some Japanese tea with Palo Santo would really wear this

Suelll

The initial part of the scent smells peaceful but it’s for a personal reason. It reminded me of the time I spent in my favorite spot in my uni library. Secluded, quiet, cold and smelled of old books. Weird? Just need the tiniest squirt. I do like it, so much so that it is my latest FB purchase. I don’t think you need to get bois marocain if you already have this but if you have bois marocain already you should get this just because they are not the same and ebene fume is better. The name is not a misnomer like some. This smells like incense, smoky and kind of dry. It’s fleeting if worn on skin but quite long lasting on clothes. Doesn’t really change much after the initial part is over. Just loses its intensity over time.

Dr.Afro

Fireplace and bonfire 🔥 in a bottle! Beautiful smokey scent that lasts forever on MY skin and I get mad compliments even in the summer ☀️ when I wear this. This stuff is dangerous and will
Suck others right into your personal space so they can get a whiff!

SandyToess

When I sprayed it in the shop it brought Bois d'Encens Giorgio Armani to my mind. Then as it dried down on the paper, it's very very similar to Santal Musc Narciso Rodriguez (which I have a full bottle of).

Bryan Ryan

Full bottle worthy.

I don't know what Palo Santo specifically smells like but I have seen a few classical guitars made from Palo Santo wood. They and most other classical guitars smell pretty dry woody inside the sound hole. It is a great smell.

I get dry wood smell. Dry wood shavings. It is a very minimalistic fragance to me and I highly respect that the designer wanted to come out w a scent like this that is a bit avant garde.

I want to pick up a bottle one day. This is the perfect pure wood fragance for me. It is bright, friendly but serious, sharply dressed, outgoing man. I would say mid 30s and up.
Or a Home Depot employee working in the wood planks section.

Presentation is great, I love Tom ford's simple one-colored, tall thin textured boxes w the metal plague on the bottle.

For what's up my alley, and scent alone not considering price to value, I give this an 8.9.

chicoricopico

The more I sample of the Tom Ford line, the more I find them to be mass produced and synthetic.

I had really high hopes for Ebene Fume on the opening. Really complex, so smoky & spicy, really captures the smell of actual palo santo wood burning. As it dried down (on my skin at least), within about an hour, it turns into a cheap, dry, harsh and overly sweet mall perfume. Something you could smell anywhere. It literally goes from a very masculine opening to very feminine on the dry down. A fall/winter frag on the opening, a spring/summer frag on the drydown. Part 2 of the fragrance had a lot of longevity that for sure, sillage was also moderate. The good news is that I've finally learned my lesson. TF Fragrances aren't what they used to be.

Note: I'm assuming that many of the reviews here are simply from smelling on a card, there's no way to get the full experience without some skin and some drydown.

defectedmonkey

I have to say this is probably my favorite from the TF line or a close tie with Ombre Leather parfum. I think the trouble with this isn't that it is weak. Some people like a weaker fragrances. I sometimes enjoy a soft/understated scent trail. The problem with this is, for me, is that it lacks the utility that similar fragrances have. I can only imagine my self wearing this with a full suit at a late night bar or a wedding. I think women can pull this off if they are bold. But again it would have to be for a formal/fun setting.
It's so polished, sexy and feels great on me. The radiating amber acts as a good support note for the smoky woody accord. It also has a tiny bit of sweetness that sits just right for me. For sure you need to sample this, at the very least.
They probably should have named this one F*cking Fabulous instead?

HappyLucky

Funny, how people are so easily deceived by marketing hypemasters.

Guaiac wood = palo santo = lignum vitae = holywood.

LaLaPop75

Alright, I gotta put my 2 cents in on these reviews. I'm feeling a little bi-polar from what I've read. There are polar opposite reviews. It's dark, rich, resinous, lasts forever, choked me out. It's light, weak, soft, creamy, delicate. So either we are comparing real vs fake, there are alot of fakes out there, or the formula changed from release year. My take: heavy, hell no. Oud, hell no. Last forever, nope. Worth the money, nope. Are there better incense/ palo santo perfumes out there, yep...I am one of the disappointed ones.

DO_123

Tried it, liked it and hence bought it..looking for a flacon (250 .if anyone has it, please let me know...or feel free to send a pm ..

COFFISDEAD

Woody, smokey fragrance.
I really enjoy it!

DarthFragrance

This is the most realistic palo santo scent I've tried. It's a very woody, smoky, dark fragrance. It evokes the smell of burning wood. You might think hmm, burning wood, that doesn't smell good. The scent of burning wood in this is done in a way to smell damn good. I've never smelled anything like this fragrance before, and I have nothing similar to it, so it's a great fit for my collection. I mainly get incense, woods, resins and black pepper. The cade oil and papyrus are also very apparent to me, giving it some complexity and depth. None of the notes really stand out from each other, but are all easily identifiable, meaning it's masterfully blended. I see mixed comments on performance which might be a skin chemistry thing or a batch variation thing, I'm not sure. For me, this is one of my strongest fragrances. I get like 16+ hours of longevity and 8 of those hours are loud projection, it's a total beast mode fragrance for me.

My bottle batch code is A41, a launch batch from April 2021.

karinevandal

Today the weather is very humid with the rain and everything..so I was looking for a particular vibe. I knew a had a bunch of decants from Tom Ford, and knew for a fact I would happily rediscover them due to the particular weather but also due do my ongoing nose evolution. I used to hate (I mean HATE) all things Tom Ford smokey, incense etc.. And I do keep testing and retesting accords, notes and everything out of my comfort zone since the beginning of my olfactory journey. And today, I'm happy to say I know how to appreciate more this fragrance. I also think I [might] own someday a tiny bottle for layering purpose (to amp up some other fragrances that might lack this smokey aspect). @NickZee is right by saying this fragrance is developed to satiate wearers that are heavily experimenting with woody notes in perfume and are at the peak of their anti-mainstream phase.

latespring

Heavy, pleasant, and animalistic on my skin. Suits the humid weather here

NickZee

Unrelenting dry woody notes. As it develops it gets drier and sharper. Its a simple fragrance developed to satiate wearers that are heavily experimenting with woody notes in perfume and are at the peak of their anti-mainstream phase. Performance is better than I was led to believe.

KÖLOGNES

In the vast landscape of the fragrance world, where scents strive to capture the essence of time and place, Tom Ford's Ébène Fume emerges as a captivating masterpiece. This olfactory creation is an aromatic symphony that weaves together an intriguing tapestry of notes, evoking the iconic opening scene from Sergio Leone's legendary Spaghetti Western, "Once upon a time in the West." Just as Charles Bronson's enigmatic harmonica player carries a haunting backstory, Ébène Fume captures the spirit of mystery and adventure, leaving an indelible mark on those who dare to wear it.

As the journey begins, the top notes of incense, palo santo, black pepper, and violet leaf intertwine, creating an intoxicating aura of smoky intrigue. The incense rises like swirling smoke, reminiscent of the vast open plains where Bronson's character emerges from the dust. The palo santo adds a mystical touch, hinting at hidden secrets yet to be revealed, while the black pepper and violet leaf lend a subtle edge that ignites the senses, just like the tension in the film's opening scene.

Transitioning to the heart of Ébène Fume, a symphony of leather, labdanum, cade oil, papyrus, and rose unfolds. The leather note evokes the ruggedness of the Western landscape, its raw masculinity resonating with the enigmatic hero of Leone's masterpiece. Labdanum and cade oil add depth and complexity, reminiscent of the ever-changing dynamics of the film's plot. The papyrus contributes an earthy quality, grounding the fragrance and mirroring the vastness of the Western terrain. And just as the rose blooms unexpectedly in the midst of adversity, its presence in Ébène Fume reveals a softer side, balancing the composition with a touch of delicate beauty.

Ébène Fume is a fragrance that transcends time and space, transporting you to the heart of Leone's Western masterpiece

stanklover

Intense heavy church incense, which I don’t mind. It’s Smokey, peppery, and aromatic (from spice and incense mix). At this moment, it’s slightly too sweet for me, but maybe it’s just my skin, because this gets quite resinous sweet with a classic Tom ford amber base. It’s not super “unique”, you can find the scent profile in something similar like pasha de Cartier parfum, but this is “Tom Forded”, making the scent classy, gender binding, and of course…..sexy.

PalmiPalmi

I just ordered an 100ml and I must say I'm eager.
I love how the woody and incense-like Palo Santo pairs with the black pepper and the darkness from the ebony.
The bottle is my least favorite from the Private Blend line and I'm kind of sad about that bc I think it's one of the best fragrances

Gastro

I haven't been on Fragrantica very long, but I'm starting to get the idea that unless a fragrance fills the entire room with a given scent, it is commonly vilified as weak and poor quality. I guess if that's why you use fragrances on the first place, that would be a fair evaluation of this absolute stunner by Tom Ford.

I have different criteria: I don't want a fragrance that jumps off my skin and slaps the face off of everyone else on the room. As I heard one reviewer say, "I want to be discovered, not announced." Besides that, I want something a little different from the everyday, something a bit exotic. Most important, I want a scent that appeals to me. I'll be smelling it all day, after all.

I love Ebene Fume! It's rich, exotic (but not "strange"), woody, smoky, creamy, and delicious. It's a bit like TF Oud Wood, but much smoother, less sharp, and more mature, which suits me perfectly as I am 61. It you are a very young man, trying desperately to get noticed, I can understand you not loving this one. However, if you have reached the point in life where you have developed genuine self-confidence (and not false bravado) I would highly recommend giving this scent a try.

I like it for day and evening, and have used it in all seasons except summer, and I'm going to try it this summer, just to see what happens! I may use less of it, and will probably try layering something light and citrusy on top of it. I will have a lot of fun experimenting, that's for certain.

Cherrycardinal

Wow I was skeptical when I saw palo santo but it really is pure strong palo santo incense. I was excited to try this because I've wanted another incense like my favorite tom ford, the now discontinued sahara noir, and this fully delivers. Mostly for cool to cold weather but could work on summer nights. As for the comments on its weakness, it's natural like most tom fords so you don't get beast mode. Tom fords keep it classy. It stays rich on skin but won't project past arms length. Wear it on top of coconut oil to make it richer

aaronmilic

Walked into Nordstrom which is closing up shop in Canada to see if I could get any deals on a fragrance. They had very little left and only 20% off so I bought a 10ml of this based on the reviews I read here. I gotta learn to stop listening to people. This is meh. Generic. Boring. White noise. Another disappointment from the TF house. Performance also meh, people saying this is strong need to stop covering themselves like this is Axe Body Spray.

crogersrx

I love this fragrance above just about all other fragrances in my collection. I think of this as my signature scent, though I only wear it on certain occasions. I love it so much that I went back and bought three more bottles so that I'd have it for a long time, and not lament if they discontinue it or change the formulation.

The dry, woody, incense smell is fairly linear, and is meditative and luxurious. I find it at once sophisticated and yet simplistic. It really has a temple incense-like quality to it. I've seen people mention that it doesn't have much projection, sillage, or duration.... I can assure you that most people around you will beg, maybe even scream to differ. I am a habitual oversprayer with most fragrances, but I am pretty conservative with this one. It is a cool weather fragrance, and a few sprays on the neck and maybe a couple for the hair and lapel will go A LONG WAY. I have had my spouse try wearing it so that I can tell how it lasts, projects, etc, and it really lasts at least a good 7 hours with only 4-6 sprays. I would caution against wearing this in warm weather and especially in close spaces, like on an airplane.

It is a very palo santo, incense forward scent, and overall very dry. I notice a few of the other notes - pepper, labdanum, rose, leather... but they're mostly supporting notes, while the woody, smokey notes really dominate. I smell nothing that reminds me of Black Afgano, and I also find it quite distinct from most other Palo Santo forward fragrances that I've tried.

Perpetual Collector

Whoever says this smells like Black Afgano or especially Stash, has some seeeeerious issues. My mind is blown by such ridiculous claims 🙄

Sheherazad

I...I...aye yai yai yai yai. Spicy, woody, smokey seduction billows from this little brown bottle...clouding my brain...coating other parts. How can anyone wear this & NOT end up horizontal? 🤤❤️🔥

Enrium

Ébène Fumé is an elegant woody-amber scent, enhanced with spices and an underlying smokiness. It reminds me of SJP Stash, a now-sadly-discontinued bargain gem, that was about a tenth of the price of this.

EF is balsamic from initial spray, with rich woody notes emerging early on. There is some peppery spice up top, and an underlying smokiness that develops with this scent, keeping things very, very dry.

The amber is resinous and rich, slightly leathery but not too animalic. It complements the dry woodiness to perfection. It is pretty linear, remaining dry and woody as it dries down, but as time passes, it wears thin and synthetic, with a slight unpleasant metallic tinge. Sillage is moderate and longevity is long-lasting.

A simple but nicely formed woody-amber scent - at least until it runs out of steam at the late drydown stage - EF is a unisex cold weather scent (but apply sparingly). Overpriced for what it is, but overall, reasonably decent regardless. 3/5.

jbenite4

Thick, yet sweet smoke and resin notes. I can make out the fir and juniper and the palo santo acts like an expensive but tasteful robe that wraps you, like a mystical aura.
Never overpowering but the sillage is enormous and it lasts a good 7 hours on the skin, increasingly sweet but never cloying.
Highly recommend; it has all the craftsmanship you expect from a Tom Ford.

Tshahb

This is a strong-ass perfume.

It's love-hate for me. It's wonderful at arms length but gives me a headache up close.

I get no florals, no violet leaf, no rose.

Absolutely do not overspray.

Those of you saying the performance is bad need to visit the ENT specialist.

All in all, it's BONE dry, crackling embers, artisan wood smoke. Not easy, but probably worth the effort.

Fragaddict123

One thing I appreciate about TomFord is producing the 10 ml scents that are enough to choose if it deserves a full bottle or the travel case was enough
Luckily I found this one available so I had to get a blind buy TBH
I had high hopes here but when I heard the it’s a palo santo dominat scent I was weary of it since my first fragrance with palo santo wasn’t my cup of tea
So I got it the incense and amber is very good in the opening but it settles down to something I didn’t like
What I got out of this fragrance that any palo santo dominant scent is a bad idea for me
Performance was very good

bibo25

I like this scent a lot, It is NOT a weak scent at all but for an incensey dark scent not that strong wich is a good thing , makes the scent much easier to wear. It reminded me a little of my Gucci pour homme l that i had many years ago. Like the ambery sweetness in the dry down. A very good scent love to wear it in Fall, winter and spring nights 👍

dilfluver777

this is a smooth and slightly creamy palo santo. this is the one of the most realistic takes that ive smelt of palo santo in a fragrance. it's a very warm and almost religious scent. the incense in here is very faint, and it kind of reminds me of a catholic church. its more like the scent of cooled down burned palo santo wood with an oily resin quality to it. the labdanum blends with the wood and pepper to sort of give that dusty element to it, but it works really well in here to add to the realism. the cade oil and florals add this very faintly sweet phenolic undertone that gives the scent a smooth and almost creamy complexity. i really like this fragrance, its pretty soft and close to the skin, which i think is honestly a good thing. i think the notes in here can be very dense heavy hitters, so a very beast mode performance for this scent would probably be too much.

wowoweee

warm, musky, resinous palo santo smoke. personally, I don’t see a scenario where I would wear this. it smells way too much like a bonfire and has an off putting sweetness. it’s also very very musky and strong/long lasting

Mariam Mel

Perfect Palo Santo smoke. The kind I use before my daily meditation. Its so insanely good that I close my eyes and inhale the smell from the wrist. The downside — it never lasts more than ~ 15 mins. :( I always need to have it a hand to renew the sensation.

viewDidAppear

Astronomical performance. Really radiant. It’s also quite warm, so better suited for the colder weather. Due to how powerful it is though, be careful with the spritzing. It could knock someone out if you used too much.

OHLAWDTOMFAWD

Strong sillage and radiance. Monstrous performance for me. This has got a campfire accord with leather and rose to give it a great balance and make it more palatable. Smells like Tom Ford. I absolutely love it. Careful on the sprays, this will definitely choke out a room if you go too heavy.

Ferra_Verto

Burned Palo Santo wood left to marinate in a resinous amber oil. Lots of beautifully leathery facets, encapsulates warmth quite well.
Arms' length sillage, lasts around 8 hrs on skin, fares better on clothing. Can easily pull this off in warmer autumn days and those particularly cold spring days as well.
Lovely offering, I wouldn't be averse to an Intense/Elixir version.

ts_likes_colognes

This smells like warmth in a bottle. It is more of an aura than a scent, so it could go unnoticed by others. However, it will still positively influence their emotions towards you, even if they don't know why. It's the perfect scent for a night in. It lasts a long time, and its sillage is moderate, so it won't choke out your date. Rather, it will invite them closer to you. However, for its price, I would prefer more performance out of this. It serves its purpose perfectly, but I personally want beast mode performance for this beast mode pricetag. I recommend Black Afgano by Nasomatto if you like the warmth of this fragrance, but you want much more performance, as well as a darker, more sinister scent. Or Dolce and Gabbana The One EdP if you want a similar scent profile and performance for a more befitting price.

Samantha 12

Love at first sniff! Comforting, warming, intoxicating and alluring. Woody smoky with a touch of incense. Blends with my skin beautifully. Confidence giver, leans slightly more masculine which is how like my fragrance. Vibes are; the comfort of being in love, the welcome warmth of an Indian summer day late into Autumn. The hypnotic tranquility of a camp fire crackling whilst being wrapped up in a blanket.

skoenig4

Automatic love from me. Rich, smoked wood and deep incense. This smells like the sound of killing a skeleton in Minecraft haha

daisybrown

阿彌陀佛, buddhist temple incense, sundays at tzu-chi, vegetarian zongzi, calligraphy practice

gandrasta

Ok, I don't mean that this is bad or anything but it exactly smells like Javanese "ratus gurah meki" (free translate: Javanese vagina refreshing incense). So, yes, it's really calming, warm, lingers and waaay too familiar for me.

ReflectionMan48

This is a great smoky woody fragrance. Leans masculine.
Reminds me of The Different Company's Santo Incienso but not quite as sharp.
This is warmer and smoother and smokier.
One of the best Tom Ford releases of the last few years.

RMPingo

I tried Ebene Fume for the first time today. This is my second Tom Ford fragrance (with Tuscan Leather being my first)--and this is my second favorite. Having said that, I really enjoy this scent. It smells rich, multi-layered, and mysterious. When the Beatles recorded their hippie, Indian-infused classic song "Within You and Without You" for Sergeant Pepper, George Harrison set up the studio with incense, old instruments, bongo drums, candles, prayer rugs, and all sorts of *Eastern* paraphernalia, and imagine this is what Abbey Road smelled like that night.

Martysneo

This is an incredibly heavy, Smokey, Woody olfactory experience from Mr. Ford. I have had a lot of compliments on this one. Just 1/2 sprays does the trick. It might just be me, but it takes me back to a time I wore Bvlgari Black (the original one in the round bottle with the rubber packaging).

tessture

I didn't love this like I thought I would. I get a super dark perfumey black wood with charring, and a hint of harsh rubbing alcohol in the back. It truly smells black and dark, but is also a bit acrid and dries with a distinct powdery feel, while still retaining some note I can't identify that is loud and agreesively sharp around the edges. Really doesn't work on me at all.

cns187

It is a great scent but I feel like if you already have Tom Ford Noir Extreme then it will be redundant. While not entirely the same scent, the rose and wood in both are kind of similar to my nose.

Captain Odour

Unbelievably good. Mastery from Tom Ford, and almost certainly one of the best fragrances TF has available right now.

First and foremost, it's nothing like Gucci Pour Homme I. This is darker, heavier, smoker and has a heavier reliance on Palo Santo and Incense. Pour Homme I is a smooth, cedar fragrance from the very beginning. If you're looking for a PH1 replacement, keep looking. This won't tick that box.

With that out of the way, this stuff is magnificent. Rich, opulent and heavy. Textbook Tom Ford. Lasts forever, but doesn't choke out a room. This is sensual, dark and mysterious. Absolutely signature scent worthy, and definitely backup bottle worthy... but not quite worth the price. $280 for 50ml? Please. Bring it back to $200 and then, maybe, you're in business. Still. Grab it before TF gets rid of it.

IAmStaka

The drydown of this is infinitely better than its opening.

Luluteeter

Kerosene Blackmail is FAR superior to this, for 1/2 the price.

HaydenE24

I can't lie, This cologne is very good and smells like a warm cozy campfire that would make people remember you as you walk by, but I sprayed on 3 sprays and went in the car and I almost choked myself out by this scent. Don't get me wrong its very good and powerful if you would like to smell like a nice campfire but its just too strong, and it could choke people around you, just watch how much you spray while wearing this. 9/10 still amazing

AlliCat1215

This is a very nice woody spicy incense smell. I can still smell it on my shirt the next day. Sillage is moderate. I can smell it on my arm throughout the day.

NunyaB

Doesn’t last, very weak. I like the scent, it’s different for me. Incense is the primary note. It fades quickly though, becoming barely perceptible. I put on about 16 sprays 3 behind each ear, 2 on inner elbow, wrists, chest, and it still didn’t last and barely projected (I asked people around me since it was a family gathering).

I do still detect a scent now and then about 16hrs later, with nose right up against skin, but the performance is pretty bad. It basically becomes a skin scent, or close bubble, within an hour. I did all the tricks, Vaseline, moisturizer, etc. and nothing really helped.

Stoopid Phresh

Its 25 degrees in Houston, Texas and this shit is punching through the cold 🥶
Just left the Wendy's drive thru & the workers said I smelled amazing! It makes me feel like I'm in a incense shop somewhere in Saudi Arabia- itz so smooth 😎

erarmas

Don’t last on my skin. A weirdly Incense touch, bittersweet peppery opening with some type of candle/candy scent…silage is moderate during the first 30 minutes and longevity is around 3-4 hours, im my humble opinion: it not worth the price. I’ve tried a lot of Tom Ford fragrances. This one is not what I was thinking of…a couple of friends were also dissatisfied. I’m not polarized but Noir extreme, Tobacco vanille and ombré leather are the best of TF…

Aura21

It's a lovely fragrance for autumn/winter. It's got character, its subtlely sexy and sleek too. Good longevity and moderate sillage. I'll be wearing it whenever as i think it's quite versatile - which i really like!
The downside is the price tag!

merriman

After i've been recommended this a ton, i finally had a chance to get my hands on. I truly wanted to like this, BUT:

Should have lowered my expectations as i was very disappointed upon smelling this. Expected this to be the perfect, cozy winter "chalet" fragrance with a similar vibe as for example Halfeti... and i'm well aware that this is completely different regarding scent itself.

Incense, peppery opening with some type of bitter candy. Stays like it for a long period as it becomes slightly woodier. I completely miss the "fume" part as this is not a smokey fragrance at all. Probably very polarizing as i can imagine people could be happy with this one.

For me just a synthetic chaos for which i don't see any occasions to wear.
I cannot smell anything natural in here. The only plus is that it is powerful and projects kinda strong for the first 3 hours.

meama

A dry woody and incense, how original!
A tiny bit of Palo Santo, which gives this impression of an herbal sandalwood with still milky sap in its sticky fiber.
Comes in mind the incense of Gucci Homme, the polished wood box of Oud Wood, or even Santal 33 with his weird mix of violet leaf and sandalwood...always the same references with the feeling of having smell that dozens of times, only at TF already.
It's getting boring because it's so repetitive and the only really noticeable change is the price, which is soaring in delirium to sell a less and less good perfume.
Is it worth writing a review for a product that will probably disappear in a few months, TF being the equivalent of H&M for luxury perfume.
Technically it is very weak, no sillage and yet it's synthetic sandalwood used here.
Nothing extraordinary or even just very beautiful, it's barely OK, without sillage and without originality...
For this price you can buy a liter of Palo Santo extract and perfume yourself for years.

giparisan

I don’t know exactly why, but this smells like London to me, and I mean it as a big compliment since is my favourite place on earth. Maybe it’s a specific place that I can’t remember exactly, or a fancy store like Harrods or Selfridges. Too bad I live in a tropical country and I can’t justify buying something so expensive when I would have like 10 days per year to wear this appropriately lol. But I would buy it in a heartbeat if I lived in a colder place.

renperd

Strongly reminiscent of Etat Libre d'Orange: Rien EDP, especially in the drydown, but Ébène is much weaker. No reason to purchase if you have Rien already.

NewMan110522

Bravissimo, Mr. Tom Ford. You've made such a distinctive, rich scent.

When I wore this from the sample vial I got, I felt sexy and suave. Perfect blend of luxurious and accessible in regards to scent notes. To my nose, the incense smell is STRONG. Reminds me of Midnight Christmas Mass when my pastor loads up the censer.

Shame it's so expensive - because I would have this in my rotation expeditiously! Hopefully I can find a more affordable analogue that has as distinct of character as Ebene Fume!

Tidouri

OK, Tom Ford… You finally got me!!!
I admire the brand and kept trying the fragrances whenever I could, but most are too much for me. Too heavy, too opulent, too sensual, too polished, too nouveau riche.
But this one is a completely different story for me. Loved it at first try. It’s very closely connected with Serge Lutens’ Serge Noir, which is one of my all time favorites. Great work!

aboutjujulia

For me its a candle scent

PerfumedParrot

A great creation after an (arguably) long line of disappointments from this house.

At first, I found it too heavy, dark and exotically overpowering and only smelt it from a paper strip. It took me a year to try it on my skin and it’s a beautiful beast, like a muscular Arabian horse with a smooth leather saddle. Surprisingly it’s not too masculine for me. On my feminine skin, it’s a peppery animalic leather with smoothly smoking palo santo, guaiac wood and ambery resins. There’s no sweetness, it’s just so smoothly dark. The only downside is the longevity which lasted a few hours. Shame. Just need to release an intense version now.

Ginzao

Gotta echo the abysmal performance review below...I tried to give it another chance hoping it would last over 2 hours....NOPE! Just seems like it only has top notes but no heart and base to latch on to. I say this because I never typically have performance issues with perfumes. They live they evolve on my cooler skin. But performance aside, I do love the scent. I get slight Black Phantom and Vanille Fatale vibes from it. But too bad it won't go home with me!!!

LaloSalaA

Utter rubbish, I returned it to the store. As soon as you apply, it’s smells like you put it on 2 hours ago. On my skin it lasts 30 mins, clothes maybe 2 hours- not exactly good performance for £265. When I think of Private Blends I think of Tuscan Leather (my all time favourite) thick, rich and opulent- this comes nowhere near.

lemonsandroses

More incensy and smokey than Santal 33, and something kind of crisp - ozone? Reminds me of Arizona and New Mexico, that smell of blue sky and burning mesquite. Outdoorsy cowboy version of Santal 33. Unisex to me, I really love it. Lasts at least a few days on clothes

wristmeetrazor

my skin just doesn’t agree with super wood-forward scents like this - they end up smelling like pickle juice. i encourage others to try it regardless, chances are it works better with them than me

FragStar

Opens with a beautiful blast of smoky black pepper, aromatic palo santo and animalic leather. Very woodsy, but in the nicest way. Intriguing and confident. The dry down goes more towards the guaiac wood and resins, evolving into an ambery oud which may be a little too funky for some. A solid fragrance and a pleasure to wear.

Daisy_D

Once I got the first sniff, I found it so similar to some fragrance that I am rather familiar with. Not anything from TF, but some other niche perfumeries.

Later, I remembered that it is quite similar to Black Afgano Nasomatto, but lighter. Besides, it also reminds me of Tuxedo from YSL, and Tabac 28 from Le Labo. There's the exquisiteness of the resins and guaiac wood, and the soft greenness from the violet leaf. I guess different people are more sensitive to distinct notes. To me, I mostly get guaiac wood, labdanum, incense, violet leaf, and resins.

To be honest, it's not that unique, at least, not as much as I have expected. It gives the image of too many aromatic, balsamic, and woody fragrances, especially after its dry-down.

Relatively sweeter after an hour or so. Almost feeling like there's ambergris in it, as the soft sweetness is like the smell from ambergris. But it could also come from guaiac wood.

gtabasso

this is all cade and guaiac; smoky, tar, burnt rubber; I like it but not the price; there's a little whiff of incense, too

Jitzuhan

Ebene Fume on my skin, especially at the drydown, is ALMOST similar to Dior Oud Ispahan which I like. For me at the top, they both smell incense-y but the incense of this perfume is amped more than Ispahan. The more I get whiffs of it, little by little, the similarities of the two get closer. Performance wise on my skin, this is better than Ispahan and surprisingly, of all the Tom Fords I tested, this one projects louder and stays longer than my most fave perfume of this brand which is FF. However, for the price, it's on the hefty side. Maybe, I'll consider another woody, balsamic perfume from Diptyque, Oud Palao which is the least expensive of the three.

NiqueK

A better and more refined version of Bois Marocain
I intensely disliked BM but I think that if I had some of this I would actually wear it, but probably not too often
I’m going off of a lucky scent sample
Unlike many Tom Ford scents, this one is potent
It’s not a skin scent at all, it projects very well
But it’s very dark and not exactly a crowd pleaser…I have too many of these kinds of scents where they’re beautiful and amazing and all that but not very versatile, you just can’t wear them every day —- it’s too much.
If you’re looking for something to wear on special occasions that is woody dark and good quality, gopher it!

muzzbait

OMG totally in love with this!
Love at fist and second sniff!

I usually go for niche/artisanal/exclusive/etc stuff, but this is right up my alley.
I love it.
Legit, I LOVE it!

Kemi style sweet resins, paired with a fragrant Palo Santo, slight incense and balsamic woods. It projects really well and lasts a looong time.
Big fan.
BIG BIG fan.
Yes all the way.

Hectuhhhhh

Smells like a higher end version of The One Royal Night but with added palo santo, that’s the closest thing I can compare it too

Nate_915

This smells exactly how the bottle looks if that makes any sense. Strong and peppery opening that dries down to a woody, smoky, ambery incense. It’s mostly dry but there’s a touch of sweetness. Usually smoky stuff can be overpowering and divisive, but I find this very wearable and it should please those around you. I’ve seen complaints about performance, but to me it’s very good. Lasts a long time and it creates a noticeable scent bubble all around you.

Aland2020

This is a weird one that I need more time with. It might be one of the most avant-garde scents that Tom Ford has released in a while. At first opening I get a delicious creamy and sweet woods smell. It’s dark seductive and lightly smoky from the incense but not to much. I was more than ready to come on here and add it to the wish list and figure out how I was gonna sneak it into my collection by Christmas. But then it dried down and now it’s sort of smelling like pool chlorine. I’m guessing this is probably heavily attributed to my own skin chemistry but I’ll have to read some other reviews and see. I wish it had continued on the path it started down as that scent was intoxicating and I was more than happy to spend money I didn’t have on that opening. I know this is why we wait for dry downs. I also feel this one dries down quicker than you’d expect for a high end fragrance, meaning those top notes were a bit too fleeting for my liking. If it had stayed like the opening for even an hour longer I’d probably still be sold but the dry down came in way too quickly and way too funky and not in a quirky TF way. I have a few more wears in my sample and I’ll definitely be using it up to try and figure out what exactly is going on here but for now the jury is out and I’m sort of confused.

Edit: there’s a deep dry down phase that happens a while after that has a bit of that creamy woods smell again, although not as strong as it was in the beginning. I’m not sure if I want a fragrance that’s this unpredictable but it sure is interesting and kept me on my toes wondering what I’d smell next. It sits close to the skin which I don’t really like, or I’m possibly anosmic to it because the scent also seems to move around the sides of my nose when I smell it, like it’s trying to escape but I catch it just in time to get a whiff of something lovely before it darts off and I’m left with that funky chlorine note. I’m curious as to what that is, because I’ve never smelled or experienced anything like it in fragrances before.

Ang.gom

Can we, please, take a moment to appreciate the packaging? Absolutely stunning! Smells just like the bottle looks like, BROWN. It's woody, slightly smoky and resinous, sexy and warm. Unisex, BUT not for everyone. Femme Fatale or a very masculine gentleman type of scent. Poker, cigars, suit, maxi dress. Don't see it as a everyday perfume, perhaps the cooler months with a beautiful wool coat?

Chesco

Real Oud + a Green Wood (Palo Santo?) + the smoke from Burnt Wood + Violet Leaf + Pine Needle + a touch of Rose + sweetness from Tree Resin + touch of Black Pepper + Papyrus + Guaiac Wood + a touch of faint animalic Leather

Real Oud, good quality, watered down so it's mass-appealing, while maintaining a little funk. Impressively, the Oud note stays throughout all the dry-downs.
I really respect this dna, the note combination works and is really enjoyable for it's scent genre.
The main dominant notes here is the burnt green wood smokiness, Pine Needle and sweetness from the Tree Resin.
You do get a bit of the 'Santal 33' dna vibe blended in here from the note of 'Papyrus'.
Is this a Tom Ford luxury take on the successful ‘By The Fireplace’?
With outrageous TF pricing, they should just call this frag ‘BUY The Fireplace’ lol

I actually do not like 'By The Fireplace' because it smells like my hair after a weekend of campfire camping and all i want to do when i get home is wash that out of my hair.
But 'Ebene Fume' is wearable, and quiet enjoyable, but the problem with this fragrance like all other TF frags these days is that they do not project or last long. TF's line is a complete waste of money imo.
I cannot enjoy this fragrance because it doesn't project and remains close to the skin, which means i get no waffs.

Scent 4/5 Woofs
Performance 2/5 Woofs

----------------

Side Note: The decision makers at Tom Ford or whoever owns the company today need a wake-up call and seriously need to understand, that their fragrances are now so watered down that a customer needs to over-spray like craaaaazy in order to get any projection for others to be able to smell you in public, which means you only have a few applications per 50 ml bottle. It's a double-hit to the customer: over-priced cost + weak juice.
It's such a 'fuck-you' to the paying loyal fans of your brand. This is not how you build or keep customer loyalty or be competitive in your market. Having your juice so weak is a sign of a company that doesn't 'get it' and is incompetent. Im praying that one day a big decision maker will make the decision to increase the concentration of the fragrances so they project more and lower the price per bottle.

formerlolita

I have conflicting feelings about this scent- for me it feels too masculine for my personal tastes but I can't stop smelling this when it's on, it's a compulsive need to sniff my wrist intermittently throughout the evening.

This is so sexy to my nose, the sort of smell that makes me a little weak in the knees. Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher franchise would totally smell like this: leather clad, fresh from running through the woods, strong but somehow still looking perfectly put together, his hair falling around his face effortlessly of course! It's a love for me, I'd buy this as a gift for someone special. Honestly a masterpiece- just wish it lasted longer (which is my complaint with every other TF frag I adore!)

ggartel

This was love at first sniff for me, which isn’t shocking because I adore Santal Blush - to my nose, this is like the “night time” or special occasion version of SB. It’s super sexy while remaining refined, and it isn’t so aggressive that it would offend people around you. I think it is perfectly unisex as both I and my man love it equally, but I can see how people would view it as more masculine. It is absolutely overpriced, unfortunately, but what TF isn’t? It’s so beautiful that I needed it so I just waited for someone to be decluttering theirs.

updog

should be called palo santo fume

parkemuth

There are a large number of reviewers that compare this to Black Afgano. I can see a slight resemblance, but it this one is far less dark. If you want something that is even better than Black Afgano, but smells quite a bit like it, then you should try Black Oud from Laurent Mazzone. Ébène Fumé does have strong incense note, but it isn't nearly as incensey as Lavs by Filippo Sorcinelli. I find Ford's fingerprints on this one, but it pales in comparison to a number of his legendary scents. I have sampled or purchased the vast majority of Ford's scents and love a range of his offerings. There is a fair amount of overlap with Sahara Noir which I also like rather than love. I could see myself wearing this one, but I wouldn't pay full price for a bottle. Good, not great.

arteditors

tom ford's answer to black afgano... oh well...

alexwasp

Reminds me of the discontinued Sahara Noir (a great fragrance back in the day). I remember smelling this in a department store and thinking 'THIS IS MY FRAGRANCE FINALLY', so ordered 50ml when I got home. Over time (past 9 months), I've developed some love-hate relationship with it.
You can't wear it daily; this is very much a 'certain-occassion-only' fragrance. Think classy funeral, midnight rituals with the higher-earning witches. Don't wear for lunch with the ladies.

WGG

This is good - I love that smoky, woody DNA - but is it worth ten times more than Bentley Absolute? The drydown is smooth and woody but close to the skin - and I'd much prefer the opening to linger a lot longer for this sort of money. Disappointing.

scentdoctor

What a masterpiece and no it's not similar to gucci ph1 by any means maybe just the campfire smokiness accord but ebene fume is a smooth smoky buttery Palo Santo smell. Wish it lasted longer on my skin but so far im happy with the blind buy.

AlinkaSun

This is my first wood notes heavy scent. I have not had anything like in my collection. And I have to say it was a love from first sniff.
This is just so rich, smoky, smooth. I get a lot of Palo Santo, Labdanum, Incense and Leather. I barely catch rose note. Extremely classy, sophisticated and luxurious.
Definitely unisex. Timeless. Beast performance, lasts on me about 10 hours and projects far beyond arm length.
Also I discovered a beautiful combo - TF Ébène Fumé and TF Bitter Peach. It’s match made in heaven…Smoky Boozy Peach…
I definitely recommend getting your hands on TF Ébène Fumé if you like smoky, incense and wood scents. And for someone who is new, to try and experience it.

chunkthegod

This is a perfect scent. it fits a very sophisticated man. i love the incense and wood in this scent, probably one of my favourite smoky scents. although it might seem like it should be very masculine, there is a slight hint of rose that comes out a little bit later on as the scent develops that brings out possibility to be a female scent but the way it’s brought together makes the rose appear masculine

strongerwithglue

Beautiful, cozy scent. I'm always hesitant with these types of scents, with incense and woods as the major notes, because I just never expect them to be something I'd wear, but this is opening my mind up a lot. I'd wear this. It's an uncomplicated, linear scent profile (which probably helps it for me) but definitely has that Tom Ford allure and sophistication.

Q80

Smokey palo santo...

It's like a smokey vanilla birch with palo santo. The cool down smells kind of similar or maybe a variation of "Tobacco Vanille".

It's an interesting blend for vanilla birch, and smoke... But... a creation like this in 2021 and for 200+ Euros! Extremely overpriced, and you're not buying a fragrance or a creation, u r buying a brand... so no thank you..

YLC629

Wow, this is beautiful. I placed an order at Sephora and chose this as a sample. Looking at the notes, I expected to dislike it because I'm not into leather scents and the notes aren't what I usually go for. But this is just stunning on my skin. I get mostly incense, palo santo, and a touch of rose. It reminds me a little bit of Portrait of a Lady, just more woody. This is expensive but I may need to buy a bottle.

AllisonNW

This smells very similar to Francesca Bianchi The Dark Side, the TDS being a little more feminine having a gorgeous honey note. I prefer TDS. It’s a masterpiece. EF would be good to layer with something with a hint of sweetness to complete it. It’s a little dry for my taste.

Dollhearts

I have to agree that there is a resemblance to Sahara Noir! Just when I thought I’d never find anything as good as SN, this pops it’s beautiful, incensy head in the Private Collection line. I’m very pleased with it!
Almost, almost as good as SN, but wonderfully beautiful in it’s own way!

Sezyvex

Smelled this yesterday at Harrod's Beauty and was immediately reminded of Sahara Noir. It's a lighter but a good reminder of it. I quite liked it but wasn't able to measure performance. I will be getting a bottle if I can get it for a reasonable price.

AnotherFragranceUser

It reminded me of Santal 33 but smokier, and Sellier, but smokier and less sweet. I don't have all three of these here, but I think I'd rank this 1st out of the 3, then Santal, then Sellier.

rednose

There's fir in this to stop the Santo from getting pissy but no one is telling you. Truly unisex.

EPluribusParfunum

Just blind bought a bottle. Have given it one wear. This definitely smells like Black Afgano with slightly softer, rounder edges but 95% similar. If you have Black Afgano, based on a single wear, this is a duplicate of BA. I like the smell but Tom Ford should not be duping BA.

Update: After weeks of wear I have to amend my above initial impression. For some reason on first wearing, it reminded me of Black Afgano. After more time, I don't think they smell that much alike anymore. BA is deeper, sweeter and more complex and in my opinion much better. EF is not sweet at all, I get woods and slight incense. It is more easy to wear compared to BA but only because it is less interesting than BA. My opinion...sample it, do not blind buy and just stick with Black Afgano which is superior.

Mariyamokshina

Deep and smoky , has a caramel and earthy hay essence. Not sweet enough for me and reads a bit masculine

RiddlesKitty

90% similar to Arquiste Nanban. Except Nanban has longevity and projection and complexity - its a true niche scent that wows and doesn’t try to mass-appeal, and is a rare gem you’re not going to smell on someone passing by.
Nanban 9.5/10
Ebene Fumee 6.5/10

mo choudhury

love it of course ( I'm a Tom Ford fan)
I've been wanting this mainly because of a lot of people saying that it's similar to Gucci Pour Homme.
🤨 this is far from being GPH, I have 2 bottles of it and it's my all time favourite, GPH is where my fragrance journal began.
if anyone is thinking to buy Ebene Fume because of GPH, I strongly advise you not to.

Ebene Fume is a softer much wearable version of Tom Ford London.
the other two similarities I can give you is Dior leather oud and Helfeti leather (after the opening).
I have all three and as soon as I sniffed Ebene Fume, them are the three I immediately pulled out.

ScentedSuzanne

Eben Fume is fabulously deep, rich, and smoky. Try layering it with Zoologist Bee - the honey brings out the incense in EF, and the EF blends with the Bee so perfectly that it makes you wonder why Tom Ford didn't add honey in the first place. Fantastic fall/winter fragrance. If you like your smoke laced with cozy vanilla, try MMM By the Fireplace. EF leans masculine, BtF leans feminine. All three perfumes are gorgeous.

nordhaul

This smells really pretty
Day or night, summer or
winter. It’s a warm frag;
True to The notes. 9/10

jellisunc

Little much for my nose, comes off a bit cloying. Too sweet with the smokiness for my taste. Disappointed as I wanted to love this one!

REDLINE0007

Yes it does smell like Nasomatto Black Afgano and Duro! To those that vote NO they probably never smelled it and only judge by note spread, grow a pair already 😉

Gi5elle.C

This scent was way too smoky and masculine for me. I was gifted a bottle and ended up giving it to my son. It smells amazing on him.

bb101011

This fragrance has a beastly opening with lots of pepper and woods. It quickly simmers down to a nice incensey sweet wood note that sticks around a forever and creates a meditative aura around the wearer.

intofolklore

On me, it smells almost identical to Santal Blush. Wish it was more innovative for TF

Jareth

Back to what Tom Ford does best. Deep, dark, woody, oriental - and this time dark green/brown. Smooth, silky and just a little bitter/spiky. Like Tom Ford reworking an Amouage. Tobacco Oud meets something like Opus VII. Or even Montale Dark Oud, if I remember correctly? Or just Sahara Noir with knobs on. Green knobs. Not too dry either, certainly not as dry as Sahara Noir. He's gone traditional Tom and rounded it out with ambery resins.

It doesn't seem particularly original overall because there are many woody-oud fragrances out there, but of course Tom has done this one better than everyone else. The only downside is the longevity, which isn't normally a problem with Tom's dark fragrances, but I’m getting only a few hours before it becomes a skin scent. I’m testing in nearly 20° C so maybe it’s better in cold weather? Edit: I slathered it on with multiple, multiple sprays and it seems to envelop a bit more. Maybe my tester bottle was crap.

Elena describes this as transparent, which I can see what she means though it might not be immediately obvious. To me it's very dark green spread thinly, rather than light green lumped on.

updog

smoldering palo santo is the main accord. pretty relaxing scent if you’re into that sort of thing.

PPAN

Tons of black pepper and bitter, sweet resin. There's a bit of that Palo Santo vibe as advertised, which is pretty nice but in a mild synthetic way. On me it becomes mostly just pepper and resin after a while. The bottle is fancy and cute but the scent itself is utterly disappointing if you compare obviously to older Private Blend classics from this house.

Rorshach1004

I was really looking forward to sampling this one, as it looks smoky, spicy and rich, plus, most of the reviews have been positive. So, when I saw it in Harvey Nichols this week I was literally drooling as I sprayed it on my neck, hand and a card. I gave it five seconds, smiled in anticipation, sniffed, and then.......meh. 'Oh, I thought, 'It's kinda boring, not a lot going on here at all, What can I even say about it?' Oriental, strong, nose-pinging (it gave me the sneezes) but is it something that is going to linger in the memory? No. Purchase? Certainly not. It's expensive, and not particularly unique. So, this is what I did. I cleansed my palette with the far more interesting (but too feminine to purchase) Lost Cherry and Bitter Peach, walked over to the Creed section, and gave myself a couple of blasts of the far more interesting (and criminally underrated) Viking. My overall score for the scent is 6/10. It's an oriental spicy. Quite strong. Leans feminine. It's a winter* scent, but I already have the way better (10/10) Tobacco oud, which is more of a guy scent, so I won't be buying this one. I have a feeling that this will be discontinued, not because it's bad, but because it's meh, not something I would expect from the usually very consistently interesting house of Tom Ford.
*I sampled this scent on a warm spring day. I'm sure I would have been more impressed on a cold winter day. I'd still go for Tobacco Oud though. There's way more going on with that one. It's a masterpiece. This one, isn't.

Trishaaa

HOLY CRAP I'm properly obsessed with this one so much not even joking. This has to be up there easily with my top 3 Tom Ford scents I've come across. It's fresh and woody with some kind of spiciness to it from the first impression. I view it as a classy yet sexy fragrance. I'd actually say that this is what I'd imagine Tom Ford himself wearing.

I think it's a bit more masculine leaning (still unisex as a whole) but I would honestly probably still wear this one as long as I was wearing like a leather jacket or something. This is an easy 9.5/10 for me.

donshan123

Read reviews before buying a fragrance, but take them with a grain of salt. Everyone has their own opinion regarding smells. Some people love it. Some people hate it. My advice is for you to get a sample of ANY fragrance before you ever buy it. That way, you can assess it yourself and have your thoughts, rather than strictly going off someone else's thoughts and opinions.

I received a sample of Ebene Fume from a perfumery in Italy. When I smelled this juice, I smiled. Something about the fragrance is waxy, buttery, and creamy to me. I think that the guaiac wood might be mixed with the palo santo because of the freshness, and the balsam accords with the vanilla. Imagine a warm, waxy, creamy, buttery tree log with the aroma of sweet candle wax coming from it. But, again, this is just my opinion.

As you can see, I cannot quite put the fragrance into words. But, there is a mysterious elegance to it. I love it. I love it so much that I am going to buy a bottle of it.
Edit: I just received the bottle from an eBay seller, who was nice enough to give me a slightly used bottle for $150.00 bucks + free shipping. So Ebene Fume was worth the $150.00.

SANDYDE

I love this. I’m not a Tom Ford fanboy (except his movies, and him as a human) but this shit is dope as fuck. It’s a mid way point between la labo Santal and amber absolute/ SHL o’hira/black Afgano. The perfect synergy/balance of labdanum and dark woods. Lasts forever and is just plain beautiful. I’ve spent so much money on perfume during covid, many of them blind buys, and this is the first time I’ve had zero qualms about dropping hard dollars on a fragrance you know is mostly about a name on a label. This is perfect. Full bottle and back up worthy, cause you know this brand discontinues it’s good shit right quick. Get your paws on this and get a back up bottle too, cause you know they’re gonna cancel this dope juice any day now. 10/10

rosequeen

It's not my imagination; this stuff only lasts 2 hours max on my skin.

I fell in love with it after the sales person gave me a few little droplets in a tiny sprayer when I dropped $275+ on a bottle of Rose Russie (or whatever it's called) several weeks ago. I've sprayed those little droplets several times since and kept whining that it didn't seem to last long, but I thought maybe I hadn't enough on me. So when I went back today I got in several good squirts on both my neck and wrists before another sales associate arrived suddenly to try his charm. Fortunately, I got away quickly. And here I am barely 3 hours later, and it's just gone.

Maybe other people's skin chemistry is more receptive to this, but I'm writing this review to remind myself not to drop another $275+ on a 2-hour perfume. And to save other reviewers from that waltz into Neiman Marcus or wherever trying to prove to themselves there really is something more to this scent than there really is.

I'll be looking down the reviews for something similar, and cheaper, that lasts longer.....

heavyonthehombre

Subtle yet powerful. Dry and smoky all the way through, it starts with a whiff of black pepper on first spray then incense and woods kick in, most notably Palo Santo, which mixes with the smoky and leathery notes to create the impression of burning wood.

Smells like an elevated version of Palo Santo by Cremo and I really love putting on Ebene Fume after using the Palo Santo body wash and beard oil.

tandem_4x4

Very realistic smoking wood. But not really 3D or developing or anything special. If you want something more interesting but in similar vibe then Filles en Anguiles from Serge Lutens is better.

However I should praise it longevity.

Thatbwoy

Erm.. this I am not too impressed by, I get it. I just don’t really understand it. It makes me think of the sound of tumbling blocks of wood into a wicker basket; not sexy, not comforting not interesting just a thing.

I guess if you like a dry wood incense thing then it’s for you but for me it’s a bit of a let down but very typically Tom Ford-ish

5/10

co.deegs

lacquered wood and new reeds. rosin on bow hair. dried spit and lubricants in a brass instrument. the industrial glue and velvet of a case.

karinevandal

It’s a vibe! Well, TF perfumes are. I looove the opening. But soon, you’re left with a smoked/tocacco/oud base that you can find in soo many perfumes. I would have add a different note in the base (something more feminine/vanillic maybe) to make it different a bit.

Its a vibe, but at what price? Maybe too much for what it is.
I find it similar to MM Jazz Club. If you don’t have the budget, i’ll go with the latter!

Pilikins

This is so good, and for me totally accessible because it doesn’t give me a headache (yay!) which lots of darker TFs do. The burning wood smell is very realistic but not with the off-putting tarry smell of real forest fires. It smells like wood smoke and oud and ambery notes. It is far superior to By the Fireplace which to me smells synthetic and has a nauseating opening (probably Cashmeran). EN has no such synthetic vibe. For me it is a winter must have. Next on my list! Sillage huge, longevity big. Unisex

j4yt33

Smells incredibly similar to Declaration Grooming's Darkfall shaving soap. Transitions into a screechy, stuffy wood scent

Now be careful with this one. Don't get fooled by the splendid opening, especially if you're an incense lover. The incense is short lived (maybe 30 minutes at most?). The problem I see with this is, they're basically giving us Oud Wood/Tobacco Oud at its BASE. The top will fool you but the dry down is just an ok woody/cedar. Way overpriced for what it is, and for that price I would like it to project much more than it does. Still, I rated it as 4 stars, as an ok. It was a bit of a letdown.

This is Tom Ford's take on a forest fire. It is successful yet super expensive for what it is. It seems like you can EASILY find a cheapie of this ; or at least use "By the Fireplace" as a place-holder. Nice , but now it feels like Tom is running out of steam (and ideas) and should slow down a bit. Maybe retire even. Sample it at Sephora for free.

Voice-Of-God

I'll keep this short and sharp. As fragrances go this is of good quality, and a very nice and extremely safe wear. I feel though that it's vastly overpriced as it smells like a 97% duplicate of Penhaligon's Halfeti.

On my skin Ébène Fumé is a game of two half's: it starts off dark, sweet, spicy and slightly smoky but after 30 seconds or so, it dries down to a sweet, spicy, woody incense that is very (very) close to Penhaligon's Halfeti ( I concur with spiceysauce5's comment below regarding the likeness). From a fiscal perspective: you can buy 100 ml of Halfeti for less than 50 ml of Ébène Fumé so you'd need to be a big sucker for Tom Ford's marketing to justify buying this over Halfeti.

CONCLUSION | ★★★
"It's your decision" as Alice in Chains once sang. ;)
