The new summer (2024) trend for males in white linen blazer outfits... Gorgeous!

GregDL

It was a blind buy for me - I was willing to take the risk because I love patchouli as well as the Tom Ford brand. At first spray I was definitely kind of unsure what to make of it, but it has become very addictive to me. Very complex. A lot of woodiness and a very unusual take on patchouli. Sometimes I feel like it's a very warm scent, but then I also feel like it's so unusual that it's definitely not warm and cuddly.

To me, this is definitely one of Tom Ford's masterpieces. Unisex, but it's definitely not something that everyone will like.

I think the name of White Patchouli really fits this juice. Alongside a very rich, strong, clean, fresh patchouli and woody accords, the most powerful notes that I detect are those white flowers, jasmine, rose, peonies and coriander.
Hints of juicy bergamot in the opening plus, later, in the dry down, of incense and white musk are also quite easy to spot as well.

What makes these patchouli scent absolutely beautiful is that has complexity, warmth, woodiness, smoothness, earthiness, spiciness, balsamic, fresh and floral notes! Almost the entire spectrum of scent accords perfectly blended in a elegant white bottle!

Being one of those earlier releases, it performs well and it smells expensive. Tom Ford at its finest! It opens strong and stays strong for about 8-9 hours, lingering on clothing for even longer. Radiates beautifully for about two to three hours and by hour 6 becomes a more intimate scent!

Obviously, as a patchouli lover, I would love to have a bottle of White Patchouli in my collection! It’s a great unisex scent for anyone who loves patchouli. Maybe not for a newbie to fragrances…

Tom Ford White Patchouli
(AA1, January 2011, USD 65)
First Impression

I feel like this fragrance could be a hit or a miss for many people.
On me, it is smell like beautiful patchouli, not really earthy with floral bouqet,
not really citrusy but had mild incense / aquatic undertone.

On my male skin, it tends to go a bit feminine, but I do like soft/floral fragrance in general.

I tried this fragrance on my supervisor female skin, it emits strong bergamot-patchouli quality.
All the floral / incense are barely show up.

I personally don't dig for patchouli fragrance
(apart for Vintage Angel Mugler, Tempo by Diptyuqe)
I don't even like both Coromandel; I find it too boringly sweet.

But this little TomFord White Patchouli's do have space in my collection as of now.
Until I actualized with certain view on Patchouli fragrance.

Score : 7/10
Longevity : TBA
Projection : TBA
Classification : Depending on wearer (I find it unisex, leans feminine)
Summary : Aquatic Patchouli, Fresh and Clean with a lot of Floral Ideal for everyday scent of Patchouli lover.

Edit it : sun 1 Sep,

This is wried after a few time, this scent reminds me another 2 fragrance I own from the same house, POTL & Superstition frederic malle.

Maybe because incense note are so familiar and patchouli also contains in both..

🤔 oh man, what should I do with U?

Frangipanilove

Although these contemporary, non-changing fragrances generally make me want to weep, White Patchouli is lovely. Very light, summer patchouli with a heavy dose of bergamot. I like it very much, despite its linearity.

Dori002

Smells like money and class. I only tested it on paper, it was loud, attention grabbing and spicy (way more warm and spicy than I expected). I think it's 100% unisex.
So, it's just not for me, I like perfumes that are more feminine and I didn't expected this to be sooo spicy. Maybe I will go back to this later and test it again during winter.

Ehab_MSA

fresh floral.

I can see this on a bride in a summer wedding, it's very elegant, mature, quite unique and performance is excellent.
I wear it in summer and spring days, usually with bright coloured clothes.

Philippe De Montauvant

I got this from my tailor. He hated it, but I am entirely sold on this fragrance. Unisex as it is, I feel this is a very uplifting summer scent for a male. And I've got a few dark fragrances in mind to layer it with for winter. What a find!

micheyll

This perfume along with Black Orchid were rumoured (and proven by photos of his house) to be Michael Jackson's signature scents during his last years. As a huge fan, I naturally wanted to try both of these out.

I personally cannot stand the Black Orchid as it made me physically ill and is (to me) way too heavy for daily use, but this is a different beast entirely. As a male, I can see myself wearing this as a daily scent thorough the warmer months (Spring/Summer/Autumn). Its floral notes make me feel weirdly clean and I feel it would fit white clothing especially well. This is something you'd want to spray on after taking a refreshing shower.

I'm not very keen on fruity smells, and powdery fragrances usually turn sour on me if I heat up too much. White Patchouli seems to fit between those smells splendidly. Though definitely unisex, I don't think this one is a very good blind buy for a male, especially due to its high price. I prefer unisex fragrances myself, so the slight feminine tones are not at all an issue for me. Two sprays gives me enough projection for my taste: put on some black pants and a white shirt and you'll feel like the King of Pop.

Tamijami79

Just gorgeous! One of my favorite for my TF Collection. It is strong and long lasting. With a bit of masculinity. It is like a huge bouquet of white flowers in a classy barber shop. I wear this when I have important meetings because it gives me the confidence. I think I have 5 bottles of it and I hope I never run out of it. My precious💓

cats_eye

This reminds me of Jimmy Choo Original eau de parfum minus the pear note.

Harley522

This perfume truly smells like white color, despite patchouli. Must be peony and white flowers combination. The gorgeous bottle is spot on and a piece of art. And the ad with Erykah Badu is👌perfect. The smell is simple and linear minimalist boho chic. Patchouli here is clean and not smoky. Maybe leans unisex but it’s addicting.

hijoebye

This is a softer less dirty patchouli made more gentle with quite a bit of white florals. In the dry down, the rose comes out for me more, but it still only peaks through. I would say this is more on the unisex side. This is one of the few TF fragrances I like because they often have notes that don't agree with me (tobacco, truffle, etc)

Sophia97

This is a sweet floral fragrance, It's like a bouqet of white roses with the added notes to make it more interesting.

Laurus

Smells very similar to Dior Midnight Poison, but midnight poison is but more sweet. This is a closer dupe to it than Elle. I also think this patchouli smells super earthy. Like wet forest. I find the earthy dirt smell quite disturbing also when it same time sort of smells like mens cheap cologne. I just think this is another Tom Ford dislike for me.

CNote

Wear it when you're about to ask for a raise. The Coriander / Peony is STRONG to my nose. I don't like Peony at all, but the Patchouli / Jasmin made it doable, and interesting. I wore this during my corporate advertising days and used the entire bottle. Great for a young person moving to "the big city" for a junior executive role. A great sophisticated scent, although it comes on strong. Not soft, not subtle. Go get 'em tiger.

Forbiddenjade

Hello Aunt (@Cadera97) ... your cab is waiting just outside the door and I've loaded the luggage already! Goodbye, take care and thank you for coming!

... I couldn't resist making the joke in response to your brilliant one, forgive me! LOL 😂 😘

Cadera97

Hello, I'm the auntie described below. And when I'm feeling fancy I layer this with Poème.

Forbiddenjade

I get the "rich auntie" vibe as someone mentioned, the coriander so strong as to depict her in her best resting B face... LOL! She's the kind of eccentric, always annoyingly bitching auntie who'd unleash at times a gracious and loving smile your way, together with a nice gift to make you forgive her abrupt, demanding ways. But boys, she's hard work and so thank God when she finally leaves.

I'm nowhere near her, and neither one of her favourite nieces though... this is harsh, cold to the point of aloofness, pungent. Not white, but dark and heavy. I agree with the review before mine, on point over the soapy, medicinal harshness. Buy testers!

I have a 50ml BNIB sitting in a storing drawer, if anyone needs this peculiar auntie.

RegalKitten

I can't smell patchouli in this at all. It's a harsh, soapy and medicinal fragrance. Also, to me this leans masculine, but I wouldn't want to smell it on a man either. Not a safe blind buy for patchouli fans, or anyone. I get maybe coriander and soapy white florals in this, the patchouli never came out to play.

katieyaryes

On my skin, the patchouli and wood notes sit closer to my skin while the white floral smell along with coriander and bergamot project more. To me, I think that's really neat but I could understand someone not liking that. I'm so painfully into fresh spring and summer scents so it's nice to find something for cooler weather.

SadieBluesLady

Ho-hum. Exceedingly bland and boring. Where's the patchouli in this white floral monotony? The name is so inappropriate - it's white all right but the patchouli got lost somewhere.

brand117

It's funny, this has always reminded me of very fancy laundry detergent. Very pretty and simple- don't expect this to change much at all, it's extremely linear. But I like it if I need a simple white t-shirt day.

ckorp8

Opened on skin with sourish bergamot and floral notes, light and beautiful. Then it very quickly blended into rose, sourish rose, with the bergamot being carried over. Jasmin soon joined in and it became even lighter, and soon faded into nothingness, or almost. The was where patchouli stepped in with a slight woodiness.
On clothing, I got soft white flowers before the bergamot. And the patchouli here was much more prominent as opposed to the rose which almost didn’t show up.
Overall this is a light watery scent. Ethereal. But very surprisingly, despite it being so light, it lasted over ten hours on clothing.

Ferra_Verto

Powdery & fresh florals on a woody patchouli base. Clean, warm, very pleasantly inviting. This is an earthy patchouli's very refined and rather proper older sister.
Perfect in transitioning weather, would be a lovely pick me up in the winter.
Slightly less than arms length sillage, but lasts around 8-10 hrs on skin & clothes.
Wondeful TF fragrance.

11PHOSPHORUS11

I can see divided opinions here.

To me The best thing about this product is the bottle.

TF is all about his packaging whilst I’ve smelled much more pleasant Patchouli for half the price.

Friendly advise: If you like patchouli try Splendida Patchouli Tentation by Bvlgari.

TF’s White Patchouli is definitely noticeable but in a bit more alarming way that one might want one’s perfume to be.

Save it for cold evenings and airy spaces.

Not going to buy it again but the points are going to the aesthetics of the bottle and a good performance.

Kerberos

My favorite! Smells very expensive and classy. People keep asking what am i wearing :) Definitely very outstanding perfume for self conscious, stylish woman.

mrshnchnkm

Pleasant floral patchouli, the main notes are rose and white flowers. Nothing special and I think it's a little overpriced, but overall it's ok.

Porsche9!

Nice flower scent. Would say its unisex. Just a casual wear. Not over the top scent, but really nicely made. Its well rounded but quite linear for my nose.

Elle's Bells

Just repurchased after not having it in my collection for years. I'm a stone cold Patch fan,(any other patch lovers out there?) and the patchouli in this fragrance is done exceptionally well. I just hope my new bottle will still smell like the original.

CIOGHIUZEL

Seriously trying to get through it. It’s very powerful and it gets on top of any smells around. Medicinal with some flowers, heavy and dark. Night time wear on colder weather. The bottle is stunning too

Jclee34

I don’t know why some people don’t like this fragrance. I love it! A little goes a long way and very long lasting. I love pachouli when it’s mixed beautifully and this one is. Patchouli is what makes perfume last longer and being that I’m a lover of stronger scents, this one is great in my book. It smells like a rich woman

Perfumeaddict777

This does not smell white . On me it smells dark...reminiscent of midnight poison and Prada amber mixed. On my skin I get a lot of coriander and patchouli. As it dries down I can smell incense and Amberette. I get a little lime in the mix but absolutely no white florals. In the very end i can smell peony... Fresh , sweet and clean. White patchouli has amazing longevity and sillage over an arms length. I think its beautiful.

jwelch13

I remember smelling this back in undergrad and falling in love. It is very clean yet spicy. Floral but green and sharp. It's almost cold yet interesting. Subtle to the patch lover but in your face to the haters. I was so sad when it was discontinued but luckily I snagged a 100ml off fragrancenet. Now I have to simply treasure what I have but how I wish I could buy it whenever like I could a few years ago

john_borgia_

MEN SHOULD LAYER IT WITH GREY VETIVER !!!!!!!!!!!! A SIGNATURE COMBO

hola gigi

This gives me rich auntie vibes. Powerful fragrance for a Powerful woman. I can smell each of the notes yet they are blended harmoniously. Definitely has the Tom Ford DNA that is also found in Black Orchid & Velvet Orchid. I don't like or dislike it.. I tried it out for the bottle specifically, but for me to really enjoy I think I'd have to layer it with something else.

yiola.al

This is such a powerhouse. On me it smells very much like jimmy choo the original minus the sweetness and fruits.Instead the dry down is cleaner, muskier. It is ok I guess for a cold winter day or night but I prefer the JChoo.I wouldnt call it a fail though.Just not what I expected.I just dont have much luck with Tom Ford perfums.

scentine

I have never considered myself a fan of Tom Ford. For the longest time it has seemed to me like a case of the emperor's new clothes. I guess I don't need to say I was primed to dislike everything about this fragrance, even expecting to, when I came across this at a perfume shop. Is this a good time to mention I dislike patchouli?

I never imagined I would so much as like an unapologetically patchouli fragrance, not to mention be unable to stop smelling my wrist once I had sprayed it on myself. White Patchouli is different from pretty much any other patchouli fragrance I've smelled. It is not at all oily, damp, dirty or even earthy-smelling as one might expect from this note. It is instead a crisp, dry and sligtly floral patchouli with a hint of citrus. What this brings to mind is fresh laundry and a breath of winter air, rather than anything earthy. Something about it always comes across cold, which is something that sets it apart. It really feels light. If you want a precise and detailed review of the ingredients and the composition then I suggest you take a look at Aaron Terence Hughes' review of it on YouTube.

It is marketed to women, but I think this is completely unisex. It does have a slightly floral character, but it's very much in order to balance the patchouli and none of the other notes steal the show. It's relatively linear in my opinion, which is something I like about it. The longevity is really good in my experience so far.

frag_nostalgia

Oh my... This is lovely. This fragrance is a clean, musky patchouli with bold, unfurling blooms of peony and late summer roses; with an added touch of coriander to push her into exotic Oriental territory. Regardless of the name I wasn't expecting so much patchouli, which is definitely not a complaint because I enjoy the smell of patch. It gives female fragrances a sexy tomboyish vibe I find irresistible. I also get a tea note which isn't listed. It's so rich and seductive, I can't stop smelling my arm! This fragrance will appeal to the Stevie Nicks loving white witch in you.

My wife is wearing this nowadays. I’ve never smelled anything like this before. It does not project; it literally fires missiles around it. Exactly 6 people asked what she was wearing, when we were at theatre for “Amadeus”

Bubbles1964

Where’s the patch? On my skin this is peony and detergent. The scent reminds me of a general “perfume smell”, like you’ve just walked into a room with some ladies you don’t normally hang out with, and they are all huddled together. Their perfumes combine to to create this single scent.

MarsOnEarth

This is noir de noir minus that patchouli/vanilla combo that is reminiscent of a semi-sweet chocolate. As a man who has only really smelled unisex or masculine scents that’s my only true point of reference. I’m surprised no one else has said this.

Konga5000

Seriously , ZARA's line by Jo Loves (Malone) features Fleur de Patchouli : SMELLS just like TF WP !! With better projection !! $39.99 for a big bottle . Just sayin'. And I normally HATE Zara's perfumes .

samantham-123

Just updating my review for this one.
I found an opened bottle of this on eBay and snatched it up quickly before it disappeared lol. I've grown to fall in love with this one. It's so so long lasting a little goes a hell of a long way.
It's like someone who's a little brash and loud, swears a lot and dresses a bit blokey but at the same time loves crystals and burns incense and is a little bit hippy underneath it all lol.
It is feminine but the complete and utter lack of sugar makes it a little serious feeling. Aside from its resemblance in the opening to Narciso Rodriguez edt, I haven't smelled anything like this before. I wouldn't say it's at all a safe blind buy unless you like dry earthy scents that are quite herbal.

Gugz

I love the bottle and yes I am going to get it 😍

Amnaa

Not as fresh as I have hoped, very musky.

whitehotforever

this summer has been unusually warm and so my idea of living out a southern europe resort/harbour town square fantasy through white patchouli has seemd almost superfluous but nevertheless i can not put this on without seeing pear popsicles sizzling over glowingly hot asphalt or cobblestone mid july on a windless noon. there are little complexities of dust and tar and brick wall sizzling through the heavy honeydripping sweetness that is the body of this scent, making it a personal summer homerun, i bring this to the beach if i know i'll take one swim too many, i shower in this before biking to have pastis by the fountain and it layers with sun and sweat in a rich ray of light that lingers way into the bright morning

Koko_S

The opening has some 90s vibe. My mom uses to wear such note when I was small. Really powerful, yet refined perfume which becomes better and better with time as the mid and base notes open

Phantomias

Second review for this: WP is beautiful, powerful and everlasting. Even though this fragrance has several notes I dislike - patchouli for instance - the totality of WP is breathtakingly lovely. It's also very expensive and thus beyond my meager budget. So I'm making my sample last although there's the tendency to apply it with abandon.
Tom Ford, you're breaking my heart!

Ruby Galore

Patchouli, peony, rose and bitter wood ... what a team!
I believe that on some skin and at a certain age it can smell divine, but I'm not ready for that spaceship yet. You who boarded enjoy the journey! <3

dienle13

Pleasant, quality fragrance with good performance.

Hits sweeter than the note analysis would suggest but not overly so.

A cool, polished beauty on the outside, a disappointment on the inside. Mind you, not a nasty surprise, merely a disappointment. A dull date, not a disaster.

Missblue

I like it, I really do. On my skin, there is a patchouli overload, white flowers, mostly gardenia and a touch of coriander. Where, oh where, did I smelled this combination? Gucci Rush, is that you, darling? No, this is your modernized, fancy bottle, expensive cousin. But if I scratch that perfectly white, gorgeous bottle, I might end up with red paint under my nails. Performance is nuclear, my sleeve fills the room 6 hours after I sprayed it. 3-4 hand washes and there is the faintest whiff on my skin, so no complaints here. However...

White Patchouli made me crave Rush after 10 years since I last owned it. I feel Rush still reigns supreme over it, it has a playfulness and a carefree manner to dance around me without ever overwhelm. It must be the plastic dusty peach. Sorry Tom Ford, you nailed it the first time, no need for “improvements”.

SailorV

I feel White Patchouli is a bit of an acquired taste. It took me some time to love it, but now there's no turning back. Even though I didn't like it when I first tried it, I was intrigued enough to try it again and again over the years.

This has a strong, polarizing opening where the dank, dark patch really takes the center stage and makes the fragrance feel weirdly musty and harsh. But that's not really what this perfume is all about.
After a short moment the Patchouli changes on my skin. It's still earthy and aromatic, it's not the sterilized sparkling patch you find in most mainstream fruitchoulis. But it's very smooth and polished, like sleek dark woods.
And when the florals come in and lighten it up, suddenly the name "White Patchouli" starts to make sense. A duet of rose and peony, both surprisingly airy and dewy, sings the loudest. It's supported by a background choir of creamy, clean white flowers. To be completely honest I'm not sure what ambrette seeds smell like on their own, but there is something musky in this that adds to the creaminess, so I guess it's ambrette aka musk mallow.

White Patchouli is a rather cool scent without much sweetness, but it never turns sour, bitter or scratchy on me. Everything works together beautifully. It feels sensual and glamorous in a serious, grown-up way.

Even though this doesn't work for everyone, I strongly advise any patchouli lover to give it a try before it gets increasingly hard to find, as it seems to be discontinued. I'm so glad I finally got a bottle before it's too late.

jaguarundina

this is a hell of a perfume. the ad with Erika Badhu hits it right in the stomach. it is a bombastic and at the same time supersophisticated perfume. I thought it was a brilliant follow-up to Black Orchid. they have the same personas. and being very different. although the patchouli didn't loose any of its fatty, earthy, inhospitable aspects, this is all being caught by the flowerworks (peony, white flowers, jasmine, rose) , the spicey aspect (spices, ambrette, incense) and the woody finish that fits seamlessly to the patchouli. this is a more ladylike version of patchouli perfume as Noir Patchouli from les Histoires de Parfums (which is also brilliant). the flacon is to die for. Tom Ford had still a lot to do but for me he was already the hero (with Karl, Gianfranco Ferré, Donatella and Gianni). I whore this perfume to the hospital to be operated and it was strictly Verboten to wear any perfume. yet I spritzed. before the operation the nurses started swooning 'oooooh what is that smeeeeel ?'. yes it is me, I reposted. isn't it a Gents scent ? they asked. no I am such Gent who wears ladies' perfumes. and they got their spritz. smashing, unforgettable, personal and presentist.

samantham-123

Hm.
This one is..different lol.
I bought a 5ml decant of this just to test it out since i don't usually do patchouli centered scents very often. I just ran out of my beloved Orchid Soleil and since i can't be bothered selling a kidney to replace it right now id instead give this quirky little number a try since its slightly more affordable and not yet discontinued.

So. The scent itself.
Well, it's, to me, actually more of a rose centered fragrance. With a slightly bitter base giving it that chypre feeling.
Its been bugging me what the opening reminds me of, and I figured it out today; Narciso Rodriguez for her edt jn the black bottle. But much less syrupy and sweet. Everyone says the opening is unpleasant but i actually kind of like it, it's got zing I'll say that.

The projection is seriously real and the lasting power is crazy, but the overall feel..mood of this scent is actually quite gentle, restrained. It's smooth, a little dusty and dry but the peony and jasmine give it the smallest hint of floral sweetness that actually makes this, im gonna say it, ultra feminine. To me this smells feminine. Quirky and a little out there yes, but feminine nonetheless.
But yeah, i would go as far as saying this is more centered around the rose, with incense and patchouli playing supporting roles. This is completely sugarless,so gourmand lovers just keep that in mind. But that opening; its a bit of a slap isn't it? I kind of like the weird mix of spicy and fresh.
For some reason this makes me imagine sterile white futuristic film sets of the 80s, with the same music at the start of Stranger Things, I don't know why, i just get a real 80s/ futuristic film vibe . And in my minds eye, the colours of this scent are silver, off white , mossy green and gold.

I am going to say that yes, i like this, quite a lot actually. But I'm not sure if it suits my personality. Will have to get to know it a bit better. I think this would come off differently on everyone depending on how it plays out with each individuals body chemistry

Konga5000

Trying so so SO hard to like this . I feel like I'm pushing a mule carrying 2 baskets full of lead sinkers up a hill ! This is a variation of White Suede with less personality and aura. Absolutely NO PATCHOULI in here. LOL. What you DO get is a "musky hairspray" which will induce vomiting to some. As tacky as White Suede is , there was no reason to do a "dialed down" version for less money. Just plain annoying ! *DO NOT BLIND BUY*

Forbiddenjade

How I wanted to love this one! The beautiful notes, magnificent bottle, so classy... well all I got was burnt tires, a chemical, dry and unpleasant rendition of it.
Tried three times, as I could not believe that my nose would reject the refined imaginary content I had envisioned filling the bottle in my hand. Repulsed is the word - I could not stand the smell of this and had to scrub it off as fast I could.
One of few blind buys I regret immensively, but having tested previously another TF I should have guessed.
They all have a DNA that does not please my nose. Alas, will have to depart from the bottle and forget this brand.

UnearthlyApothecary

Upon first sniff I instantly connected this to Philosophy Live Joyously, that peony and patchouli are SO similar! If you are missing White Patchouli grab yourself a bottle of that and rejoice, it is dirt cheap! I will have to buy another bottle so I can do a side by side comparison. This opens a little sour, I get the bergamot most after the first spray and I’m not the hugest fan of the opening but once it settles down, it’s all peony with the underlying patch. It’s a bright/fresh alternative to the dark patchouli heavy hitters. A summertime patch if you will. And if you’re a woman that loves patchouli but not the super sweet fruitchouli’s that are so prevalent now, this one is for you! Glad to have a bottle, the silage and longevity are excellent.

kurran100

White patchouli smells very dry, would probably suit best in kinda humid/dewy/wet(idk the "real" word) weather. Not for winter! I think I would wear this at night in tropical climate.

Edit:
Tried it at night in winter, works well ;) Also tried it at night in tropical climate, almost got a bit cloying.. :/ I thought the dryness of the fragrance would make it work very well in humid weather but the weight of it made it not work well in the heat. I also tried it in daytime in winter and there I was right, it did not work! I don't really know why, I'm not that skilled in perfumery, but it just isn't a daytime fragrance if you don't want to smell harsh. I experience the same phenomenon with Armani Code for her, it just smells harsh in the daytime.
Conclusion: Colder months nighttime fragrance when you wanna smell badass B)

Oh... what can I say about this perfume.

Bold lady boss! Fierce and spiky. This is the image that this perfume creates. It was my go to perfume for business meetings. I noticed that I never received compliments from anyone for my Tom Ford fragrance. But I live in Germany and generally people do not wear bold perfumes here. Unless you’re a rich woman older than 60 y.o.

If I have the chance to buy it again, I would. But I would use it sparingly.

LaContessina

Years ago in 2008 I splurged for a FB: it was a blind buy based on some recommendations and on the fact I love patchouli (at the time, before Sephora or Douglas carried the line, TF was not so accessible in Italy, hence the blind buy).
I like Tom Ford's work and admire many of his frags.
Then add the fact that I swoon over Coromandel (=very prominent, sharp patchouli) and then, somebody reviewed it as clean, sexy, very Prada like - a once upon a time staple in my collection (Prada Amber: patchouli & amber based).
Let me start that this is NOT what I expected it to be. Because in WP the patchouli has very little to do with real patchouli. It is, on the contrary, a white floral monster! It is very very huge on the peony, rose and other white flowers - not mentioned but i am sure there is plenty of Magnolia, a note that I do not particularly favour - i do not even detect the initial bergamot opening (as written in the notes).
It stung my nostrils and the first time made me almost gag, so strong it was (and mind you, I am not afraid of huge florals, that I frequently wear, let me name Quelques Fleurs, Joy, Jardins de Bagatelle, all very prominent).
I did not enjoy much. it is really about skin chemistry, so you must test it before buying; on the good side, it had a tremendous lasting power - on my skin-eating perfume - so dab a tiny bit as it will last forever.

The drydown is the BEST part of this frag. I love to smell it on my clothes the day after, or on my skin the next morning... there it reveals what this fragrance should all be about: a soft, clean patchouli helped out by a white lingering musk; this is really beautiful. My big 100ml bottle was decanted several times, so that I could finish it up.
Will not rebuy.

This is definitely a unique fragrance, and very well made. Perfectly unisex in my opinion. There is a sort of sun-dried freshness, but with something else quite different running beneath. Not sure how best to explain this, but in my mind's eye this smells like a place; a sunlit room the morning after a party... the window is open and a cool morning breeze stirs the atmosphere of the room, still warm from the fun of the party. There must have been food at this party- there is the smell of cooking spices in the air. I think this 'savoury' smell must be my perception of the coriander. It's the one part of White Patchouli that I still need to get my head around. Here's hoping my nose will soon be able to understand the spice and find the rose!

AryanasPerfumes

I love it, it smells to me like clean, fresh, out of the shower feeling

ELB78

I just got my sample and have been wearing it for a hour. This is weird and interesting. It’s sharp, metallic and a little spicy. I don’t think it’s a crowd pleaser but that’s ok with me, I like several fragrances that other people don’t appreciate, and I do like this. It may be giving me a headache, but I keep burying my nose in it. I will probably wear this when I’m feeling more attitude than usual. But I will not be purchasing a FB. If I smelled this on a well dressed man, I would be curious about him in a good way.

Several days later: I’m really really liking this one

L.bss

This is the smell of the XXI century! Fabulous, it just brings me back to the early 2000s, the scent of the american dream. Pure bliss patchouly, slightly floral, vaporous, sometimes tropical, spiced up, I mean come on. I want to bathe in it!

elledior

At first, I actually couldn’t believe how awful this smelled. It was strong, extremely synthetic, metallic, and masculine. I was ready to say how much I hated it. But after some minutes, that horrible synthetic scent takes a back seat and it smells a bit more floral and feminine. It’s not for me but I understand the appeal. It gives me strong, sexy, almost man killer vibes. Not man killer in a draw you in because I smell so sweet and sensual way. More like I’m cold and I don’t give you the time of day but you’re infatuated with me. Makes me think of Catherine Tramell in her white dress.
And there’s no earthy patchouli here. It’s clean, metallic, cold, white. Fits the name to a T.

juliette_has_a_pun

I must be a philistine bc the only note I get from this is Old Lady, im going to keep trying it bc I like the idea of it so much but Idk about this one :(

s2jkbrad

I love, love this. This smells dirty and gritty and sweet, like having sex outside or after working. The patchouli is heavy, toxic and sweet that dries down to a sweet but gritty smell. This would could be a good unisex fragrance but it does smell more feminine to me.

elsakoc

I traded this with Penhaligon's Night Scented Stock which is a strong ylang-ylang and I was a bit sad to have given away that perfume but GOD this is everything Night Scented Stock has had to offer and it doesn't even have a note of ylang-ylang in it and I am so surprised. Maybe it is just me but it has a beautiful soft spiciness that reminds me of stock flowers and the patchouli is not generic at all. I think the coriander is a great success in this perfume. Love it.

Anteatereatingant

This is a nice, smooth/slightly creamy patchouli that doesn't smell like earth, mud, BO, or any other stinky things that it often smells like. It smells almost slightly edible - although not like a dessert I know.

I don't notice the other notes, other than the coriander and the white florals, and even those I notice more by exclusion:
the white flowers give it a little sweetness to balance out the patchouli's natural stank/skankiness, and the coriander gives it some of that 'clean/slightly citrusy' tone. It's the smoothness and refined nature of this patchouli that makes you realize other notes are in there as well.

Projection and longevity are, as expected from a TF, considerably above average.

I like it and will definitely use up my sample, but I wouldn't buy it for that price. I find myself saying this for just about every TF so far!

melxx2133

You gotta give this one a few minutes to settle down. It smells pretty weird at first a bit synthetic. But once it settles down you get the most beautiful soapy creamy, slightly sweet white floral scent . Also I pick up the coriander note if I smell it really closely . I like this a lot actually. Its a very interesting scent.

Mbrock

At first spray it is a patchouli bomb and a bit overwhelming and that was all I could smell. Once it dries down I get why some people voted this similar to the Narciso edp. It's what comes out on my skin.. rose, musk, patchouli. It's pretty, classy and clean. I think it is very nice and feminine but it is not unique, at least on my skin.

Chanel de Lanvin

This an alternate version of patchouli as we know it.
This creation which calls itself "White" is aptly named, this metallic whiteness to remove all the deep substance of patchouli to leave it only its transparency drowned in white flowers on a light layer of bergamot nuanced with coriander.
To try before buying it, I wear it with pleasure when it's sunny, it's not a winter scent.

kristenboris1997

Yes, the patchouli is not as strong as I'd like but it is a nice perfume. It is sweet, floral and there is a strange metallic note but not unpleasant. It has a hint of a much sweeter, nicer dragons blood type scent but not exactly the same, if you know what I'm saying. It lasted ages on me and radiated within arms length. I would like the patchouli to be much stronger but this is a white scent, so I suppose the hint is in the name, it's light, not dark.

dglightblue

It goes to show - don't believe the hype, try before you buy

Tried on skin from reliable dept store.

The initial scent is like the old tea spoiled bottle kind/gentle sweat version of patchouli which is an instant no for me.
Its very 'pale'and non descript, very light pepper over some odd flat smell.

Nothing much to it, hasnt developed, i gave the bottle a spray onto the floor first to clear any liquid in the spray straw, two sprays to skin. And i didnt have other scents on.
Boo hoo

WildDove

I get a lot of citrus and woods along with the patch in White Patchouli, not really the other notes. I'm a big fan of patchouli, but I'd like this one much better on a man.

LiminalNox

I received this fragrance as a gift for my birthday from a family member who purchased it online based off the description and knew I was fond of patchouli scents.
However, the particular blend of patchouli and white flowers in this fragrance mingled to create something that is distasteful to me. It smells powdery and synthetic, with the heavy floral scent of the white flowers canceling out any earthiness from the patchouli. In fact, I find it hard to distinctly smell the patchouli in here at all. Overall I it smells similar to generic perfumes I remember older women wearing from my childhood.
Despite my criticism, I don't think it's an objectively bad perfume. But as someone who likes unique and natural scents, this smells much too artificial and mainstream for me to enjoy.

GWM99

"Austere, cold, and clean, but also mysterious, intriguing and quietly powerful." And playful too, I'd add.

Such an accurate description. So intriguing, White Patchouli smells like a dream made of sex, opulence and ease. I am still wondering if this can be considered a unisex fragrance, because I am a man and I'd definitely use it.

mldaleali28

Clean, cold, elegant, very....white. An elegant, soapy cypre.

Kiti89

To me this is very clean and earthy, it's nice but doesn't have enough of the qualities I usually gravitate towards in a scent for me to want to buy a bottle and smell like this.

I'm not getting a great deal of creamy, powdery, floral, spicy or sweet notes, it just smells botanic and fresh.

It's a nice "reset" or antidote to the scents I usually go for, so maybe one day I'll circle back and purchase it but for now I can't imagine I'd wear it more than once in a while just for the sake of it.

EDIT: I continued sniffing my decant of this and my opinion hasn't really changed but my perception has. I still find it doesn't lean away too far from being just clean and earthy but now I appreciate it enough to want a bottle. Especially since I've been growing my collection and realising all my scents are sweet, like I originally said, this is a nice break from that while still being somewhat in my comfort zone. I'm picking up more floral notes in WP but still not enough for me to describe it as floral before I describe it as clean or earthy. I like it!

mymishka

didn't work for me either(( so extra on my skin, feels like i'm a grandma...
to much patchouli and white flowers, doesn't sit as something tender, makes me more bossy or something

paryapg

I have a 50ml bottle of this stuff, blind bought it last week. I have sprayed it only once or twice. I'd be happy to swap. It doesn't work with my chemistry... Turns very too floral for my taste.

bccjr8

Ok ...my 2nd TF scent...1st was Grey Vetiver which i liked very much. This is veru clean smelling tho...ok im gonna get into triuble for this...smells like a newly painted house and then flowers rained inside...dunno if that makes sense lol. Very safe tho and far from the M7 type of TF. Bit procey tho for what it offers.

hollymichaelm

This smells bridal to me - it's definitely a formal occasion perfume, love the big white floral hit with the mysterious base. Freshness makes it versatile across seasons. I will wear this (very lightly - a little goes a long way) on my wedding day.

KatieKeene

This shares some of the same notes as Moonlight Patchouli by Van Cleef and Arpels, one of my favorite perfumes, which is what originally drew me to it. I've never tried anything by TF so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I LOVE this. Patchouli can be hit or miss on me but this is an absolute hit. It's not too dirty smelling (although I get that some people like that) and the floral notes really up its elegance. Still prefer Moonlight Patchouli but only just, this has become a new favorite for me.

Cons are: the sillage isn't great. That's about it really. And price, of course, it ain't cheap. But you knew that when you looked at the label huh?

Konga5000

Blind Buy Report: If you're looking for anything remotely resembling dark brown earthy patchouli : look elsewhere. TOM FORD may have been playing abstract artist here but White Patchouli is LOVELY nonetheless. It's very sweet with a hint of sharpness and a tiny dash of spice. Nothing overwhelms or will poke out to annoy anybody. I'm feeling like this should have been called "Amber Patchouli" because it's got a warmth to the base notes.
It can and would sit on the shelf next to his Velvet Orchid series even though this is different enough. So check that box. The Jasmine here feels like "the star of the show" but I see a "smokey" note listed and that's as non-existent as the patchouli . It seems to project VERY well but my bottle was purchased "used" so it MAY be a few years old OR just was sitting around gathering strength. So; safe blind buy if you trust me here. Office friendly but certainly not boring !
EDIT: Pretty bad longevity ; maybe the worst longevity of all the Tom Ford's I have sampled.

senalica

A warm floral with depth and a good sillage. Reminds me of a rainy patchouli garden in a warm summer afternoon when the sun has come out after the rain and is warming up the damp ground and the flowers. Plus the spices which add a bit of oriental feel to the composition. I wouldn't quite call it a fresh perfume and to me it's not exactly "white" - it can be quite heavy if sprayed generously. And by the way - this does give me a similar vibe to Narciso Rodriguez's "For Her" EDT. Oh and yes - the lasting power is very good.

Austrian_in_Denmark

White Patchouli is a perfume I can barely analyse. I smell the cleaned-up patchouli and some general sharpness. Beyond that I could not tell you what is in it, if you pointed a gun at my head.

This is not to say that I do not like it. Even though liking does not describe it. I would rather say I am impressed.
White Patchouli might be too sterile and standoffish to be liked. But it is unique, elegant, and it has plenty of icy sex-appeal.
PastelMoon uses the term "robotic", and that nails it. White Patchouli is the beautiful android that you fancy and that might or might not develop authentic feelings for you.

Strong sillage, stays over 8 hours.

bel.gravia

I've heard that there's no patchouli in Tom Ford's White Patchouli, I've heard that if there is, then the essence has been chemically processed, so that it smells less earthy and dark. To me, all of this is non sense. White Patchouli is a provocateur, it screams 'Take my clothes off' almost as much, or maybe even more, than Gucci Rush. I have to admit that White Patchouli really has some freshness in it.Differently from Gucci Rush, White Patchouli is quite elegant with its bouquet of white flowers, not as fruity.
Overall, a luminous, woody, ever so slightly spicy patchouli with fresh flowers.

intuit

Austere, cold, and clean, but also mysterious, intriguing and quietly powerful. Just like the type of person I imagine wearing this perfectly. One vlogger described it as a "bitchy co-worker" scent, and I totally agree. I can imagine a powerful lady rocking this, the type who prefers wearing pantsuits over dresses and skirts at work. (This is quite unisex, though -- I would wear it if I had a full bottle!)

If you've smelled Black Orchid, this has a similar creamy sweet chocolate-patchouli accord, minus the aggressive, earthy, animalic aspects of BO. Instead, soft white florals and rose meld with the chocolate and patch, giving it a cozy but cold vibe that reminds me of Mugler Alien. I would wear it as a daytime and office-safe version of BO.

From my collection, this evokes the same mood and personality as Chanel No. 19 and Eau Sauvage Parfum, even though none of them actually smell alike.

style1015

I really like this one. Like many TF fragrances, it is sexy, unique, but not everyone is going to like it. I think if you like patchouli, you should really try it out. Although it's marketed for women, I can definitely see a guy pulling this off.

There's this deep patchouli, white floral base that's really sophisticated. I also pick up the incense in this fragrance. It's mature and sophisticated. There's a slight metallic scent to it too. One you'll either love or hate. Upon initial spray it was super strong but then calmed down. F/W nighttime. Slightly masculine but I like it. Performance is pretty good as well.

Overall 7.5/10

black_orchid

If you love patchouli probably you will love this. I love it because it has many aspects of patchouli that I like. Woody, dark, floral, smoky and 70's chypre. I remember that I got a lots of compliments when I wear this and people thought I smell like egzotic incense.

Advaitaforever

One of the dirtiest patchouli. This reminds me of hippies wandering through a forest in the summer. It has a floral sweetness in the background and this combination just makes me picture free spirited, tall, airy women with Kate Bush hair. The coriander is pleasant. But it doesn’t have enough balance of freshness. It’s a very dirty perfume.

It’s really not for me. No no no no no .

I wore this to work once and my colleagues were not amused.

Mc1995

Hmm of course I just paid for a mini of this, but I’m not getting any white florals, patchouli is not a white floral lol this is patchouli and more patchouli to my nose. Very nice patchouli starts a bit harsh but dries down nicely into the typical straight up patchouli, earthy yet soft and sweeter than at first spray, not worth 80$+ when you can get an oil or Demeter fragrance library Patchouli(I have and these are like identical) I mean this bottle is beautiful but other than that not super special

CityGirl

I agree with BlackAmberMood that this is a really beautiful patchouli/floral. It is a beast in terms of longevity on my skin and projects a little too prominently. Half-spritzes were my speed. Garnered a lot of compliments in the winter seasons. But I eventually tired of the overly floral, sweet tones. Perhaps that's just what happens after a while. I traded and opted for a fresher, less syrupy cousin in NITRO NOIR by KIERIN for half the price. I would still recommend this, if you haven't tried it, but suggest a travel size or 50ml. Not to go all-in on the $$$ 100ml unless you are a die hard white floral fan. It's a lovely composition, spicy with sophistication, but it's still somehow not remarkable or unique enough to stand the test of time in my mind.

PastelMoon

Not much of a TF fan, most of his fragrances smell somewhat fuzzy and I like more defined edges in a fragrance.

WP to me is different, a bit robotic and yet somewhat nostalgic. On my skin it gives off an unisex feel, quite vegetal yet metallic and old paper-dry. Faint hint of sweetness.

Quite strangely, I pick a vetiver note i WP and the background is mildly pharmaceutical acidic (it sort of reminds me of whiskey), yet still clean.

Intricate, lasting and agamously beautiful.

kl99

This is a real Rose for Monsieur.
I wonder why Between all the unisex fragrance lauched by Ford this is the best even if is officially destinated for women only.
It is a big rose based perfume full of things, spices, woods, flowers, minerals. It is almost a cold fragrance in fact Remember me a lot Fougere Royal by Houbigant also for that aspect.
Great perfume. In some way it is a work around a fresh classic oriental scent.

ghadaalboghdadi

The Opening was hideous... I think it's the coriander..
Now about two hours after application it's drying down nicely into a soft soapy scent with a hint of that Tom ford-esque rose.

I'll give it a second chance.

Lizzys

Definitely a feminine fragrance and I love this one! It is a bold one with exceptional performance on me. This is the most luxurious and elegant scent I ever smelled. Perfect balance on the woody notes so it does not get that strong masculine cologne feeling that many unisex fragrances often does!

memaize

I just returned this. I think I must have received a bad batch because there was no patchouli in my White Patchouli!! Very disappointing. Sad enough that I could not detect any patchouli but what was there was nondescript. I normally love any white floral but it did not come through. I have a habit of blind buys but I thought I would be safe with this one as it sounded like something I would adore. Just a warning to others to test this one before purchasing.

Venusia

Apart and unisex blend of woods and plants, spice and most beloved flowers. Earthy and still perfumey, bold but quiet, dark but lighthearted at the same time. Don't expect a patchouli à la Chanel, it is so very well mixed here among the floral and spicy notes. Very different than everything I smelled before. And very alive!

PS: I wear this quite often and get a pretty fresh ginger vibe out of it until the very end, after about 8hours. And I like it a lot.

wlmyer2

I enjoy this fragrance, but I do find it to be a bit on the masculine side. I am a woman and I wear it occasionally, but the herbal aspect of the fragrance turns the patchouli into a dirty patchouli. So on me,it gets a little cloying. I think if a strong female wants to wear this more power to her. I might try layering a floral scent over it to brighten it a bit. The name white patchouli made me think it would be a bit lighter but alas, it is very heavy on me, so I will save this one for the winter time so the cooler weather can keep this beast of a fragrance at bay.

clintjr82

This stuff stinks. Its a mess. Its for and older woman for sure, but my 70 year grandmother didnt even like this scent. She wears all the old school and powdery type scents for older women.

tomstein2018

i have very interesting experience with this juice.BTW im a men, and find this juice very masculine and fitted better for gents. i own and use whole bunch of fancy perfumes and like to rotate between, but WP is the ONLY perfume in my collection the people will actually notice and compliment for. even strangers! i get the most bizarre yet interesting moments when random people will approach me and say- wow, you smell really good! - STRANGERS!,- i would get compliments for other juices from closer circle, Buy WP is drawing different class attention. when happened first time i assumed was random, second time thought its a coincidence, but keeps happening. love it and love TOM FORD's in general. very good collection.

jreiss360

My boyfriend has White Patchouli and I love it on him, it smells amazing! I’m surprised this is marketed as a women’s fragrance as I think it is better suited for men. I might be able to pull off wearing this one, but I think this will always smell better in a man. When boyfriend wears this, I just want to cuddle and inhale him, it’s so good.

gabri

Absolutely nothing special about this perfume. Extremely overrated, it probably won't last either. Seems it might be headed for my donation bag.

chcampos

A men's aftershave type, a bit more refined and solid 6 + hrs on my skin.
Well balanced but at the end of the day is a very macho-alpha type fragrance for women HA (funny how isn't marked a least as unisex perfume) BAD MARKETING but instant LOVE here.
Side note, I'm mixing TFWP with Molinard Patchouli EP and the result is PATCHOULIHEAVEN or I should say I'M IN PATCHOULI HEAVEN.

FeelingRisky

How can something be whisper quiet and bright/loud at the same time? There's a perfect balance here - Rustic patchouli, Soft florals, creamy milk - all blended to perfection. Soft, Bold and intoxicating. Love this juice.

Phantomias

Oh my, what a sexy beast this fragrance is! I was lucky to get a mini of WP for next to nothing, it being the second TF frag in my collection (the first is his updated Youth Dew, which I also love).

White Patchouli unfolds like a precious flower, revealing beautiful layers as time goes by. I love every note of this fragrance! WP is very masculine IMO, the dry down resembles great old style mens colognes. Very wearable for a woman, on a man WP would be drop dead sexy.

Good sillage and lasting power on this high end perfume.
Stylish flacon, too. So very glad to have this fragrance, I'm going to wear the hell out of it.

Cloudberries

I had high hopes for this one and on the test strip it smelled heavenly. Sadly it smelled like bad after shave on me.

kasslee

White Patchouli to me is almost like a cleaner, fresher daytime version of Midnight Poison. Instead of the deep earthy feel MP has, there is a ‘clean laundry drying in the sunshine’ feel.
Crisp, chic & beautiful. I absolutely love this.

kwanpekyee.1

a fragrance that accompanied me during my stay at the Maldives

indescribably beautiful
a soft sensual scent..not loud or obtrusive
i can wear this to sleep..
more a night than a day fragrance

one of the few patchouli that i can wear...

Pianomelody

Mysterious,sensual,sublime... a masterpiece that envelops you. A beautiful perfume, unforgettable! I'm really happy to have tried it,and i can not wait to buy the bottle full of this wonder! I love!!

Sillage: 8.5/10
Longevity: 9.5/10

liverpudlian78

I've owned White Patchouli for a while now, and I have grown to like it even more, the more I've worn it.
It *does* have a weird, detergent-like note at the beginning, which, after a few minutes is more of a zesty, sharpish citrus (bergamot?). I can see why some might not want to persevere with this scent because of the opening, but it does evolve.
Then it becomes a very chic, refreshing chypre with a lightly done patchouli and some florals.
Honestly, I feel really polished when I wear this and it suits most occasions. However, there is no need to over-spray with this one: just a spritz behind each ear and maybe on the wrist or navel. It lasts for a long time, and just kind of surrounds you with this chic little cloud of fragrance.

AMajeedQT

a Spicy, herbal-green, soapy white floral.

I remember it smelling better than this. I feel it is quite underdeveloped in the sense that the notes mix up at the drydown & feels as it's stuck mid-development in a stage where it's spicy, green, soapy, & floral all at the same time. It almost smells like synthetic mess. Has this been reformulated?!

But wait. It is a nice smell. It really is. Despite all of what I said, it is in the end a decently beautiful smell. Just not as unique or pretty I thought it was/it'll be.

For a more feminine & defined version of this try Al Jazeera 18K. Now THAT is a stunningly charming white floral patchouli.

Are47

After testing this with a few samples I can recommend to try Kelsey Berwin White Narcisse. If White Patchouli is ice creamy flowery sweetness, White Narcisse is almost the same but the ice cream has been changed to a popsicle. So it has some similarities and is a lot cheaper. Almost like a light and more fun version of White Patchouli.

Mando

It took me awhile to warm up to this scent. I think it's quite gorgeous. Very old school rose chypre. I get a very herbal coriander top note to it. The rose is very persistent throughout its drying down phases. The name is kind of misleading because I don't get it being "White Patchouli". More like "Dayglo Rose" for me. All in all, a very good contemporary chypre scent that smells like a chypre and there aren't very many out there now sadly.

annxyz

I usually like Tom Ford’s products, but this one did not smell nice to me. It smelled like a cleaning product . I sampled at the mall .

gabbi4god

I’ll definitely go to the department store and try it! Thanks so much!!!

fanmail

Did not like this at all at first. Got a strange effect the first time I put it on, and it reminded me of the smell of salty play-dough. That was only the first minute. Then magic happened when it warmed up.

Since then it has become my clean and delicious favorite anytime/any occasion scent. Minty milkshake with a wedge of Tahitian lime... Glad I persevered with testing as this has been a lesson for me to persevere, and that sometimes our body chemistry will actually adjust to match a scent.

corkscrewcurly

@gabbiforgod

Sorry - but from the way you describe it, it sounds as if the "Tom Ford" you bought through eBay is a fake; the market is flooded with fake TF and Chanel. Personally, I would never purchase either unless the seller could provide provenance.

Have you tried smelling a real White Patchouli at a department store (for example)? If you can do that, you should be better able to decide whether you've got a fake.

Once you're sure, you should be able to raise a case through PayPal or eBay to obtain a refund. I know $27 isn't a huge amount of money to lose, but the seller needs to know if it is a fake (they may be completely innocent of course, despite which you are still entitled to your money back). If they've deliberately sold a fake, then the rest of the eBay community needs to know, as well!

meg0825

I don't get along very well with White Patchouli. On me, it opens with a loud, screechy plastic note that seems to last forever. It starts to mellow out after about an hour, but even then I'm not too crazy about it. Oh well, you can't win them all. I'll pass this on to a friend and see if it works better with her body chemistry.

tandaina

This is absolutely summer appropriate patchouli. In fact I expect it will fall a bit flat in the cold.

Clean, clear crystal like patchouli mixed with bright breeze flowers. It is white linen dressed, billowing curtains, and breezy shaded verandas.

Very enjoyable.

cherelune

@olfactorium, once again, I love your review! Very evocative. I live in a tropical country and I love the summer too. From my experience with patchouli fragrances, I assumed this one was heavy. But now I think I must at least get a sniff of this!

Beatnik

I received a 50ml bottle of this fragrance as part of a much larger order.
Another amazing fragrance by Tom Ford....
A unique summer fragrance that is decidedly light & sun bleached....
I’m not sure why I get a coconut lime vibe...
It does not smell like either......interestingly enough.
It wears those colors in the air...
Light vibrant juicy greens and creamy whites....
Unisex.
Beachy.
Not the dirty, naughty, doobie rolling patchouli you’ve been seduced by before...
Instead...you get to meet her moderately tipsy cousin from the beach club
who is cool with you getting a little handsy.

Verdict: Excellence

olfactorium

I was born in the heat of the summer. It’s my most cherished season despite the fact that Palm Beach is pretty much warm all the time. I give most of my thought to summer fragrance because there are so many warm days and I get bored if I don’t redefine the status quo now and then. Air conditioning may be the cornerstone of modern civilization, but I still want to be set free of heavy aromas when the sun is closer to my side of the Equator. I am one of those tan people who still like to be in the sun, even when it’s fierce, and even though sun worship has pretty much given way to either alabaster skin or spray tanning. I just don’t do fake anything if I can help it. I also prefer some of the old school ideas about summer and wear an awful lot of white linen with sandals and fanciful loose clothing that might catch the slightest breeze, etc.

Bearing all of this in mind, I dug up this treasure from the past and began to wear it this year like it was a newborn release. What an antidote TF's White Patchouli is for the sultry, wet July we are having! It’s not just the heat and humidity, but the simple fact that all fragrance seems to shift and change noticeably on sun-warmed skin that really makes a difference in perception. Moreover, if you swim in the ocean or a pool the difference is even more dramatic. The exceptional aroma of bleached-white floral patchouli on salty, toasted skin, for example, bears out this seasonal nuance to perfection. Conversely, I tend to avoid brooding fragrances the like of Tom Ford’s Anthracite Noir in the summer. Heavy hitters devour the radiant patina of sun-exposed flesh, crashing the pleasurable afterglow like the smell of fresh tar steaming in the sun. Just spend a few afternoons in the Florida heat lounging on a pool deck with an icy drink in hand and you will comprehend these vicissitudes of performance as you grow evermore tawny.

I am selling a 3.4 fl oz bottle of this that is 90% full and comes with the box. Ebay listing number is 392079583990 just in case anyone is interested.

I also find the spectrum of reviews on this fragrance interesting. For full disclosure I really enjoy this scent on my skin. I don’t get plastic or rubber or anything screechy. For me, the patchouli and peony are prominent. I prefer the peony in this fragrance to the peony in nirvana white because the blend of the peony and the patch balances it out. By contrast, the peony in Nirvana White gives me a headache. I also grow several peony varieties in my flower garden, so peony is one of my favorite scents but in Nirvana white it is not really close to the real flower, whereas in White Patchouli it is spot on to me. Another peony fragrance that’s very accurate to the real thing is Acqua Di Parma Peonia Nobile.
Anyway I do think body chemistry and your genetic predisposition to smell and taste play a really important part in how you perceive fragrance. For example, there are people who smell elemi oil and perceive it as a “pickle juice” scent. I personally am quite nose blind to iso e super and ambroxan to the point of being comical because I will douse myself in Armani Si or Not a Perfume and clear a room because I’ve oversprayed!
While this is an older release and it may be difficult to sample in a store, there are many online retailers that offer decants such as LuckyScent. I would try a decant and see what you think.

I am flabbergasted by some of the reviews of this fragrance. Plastic? Dirty? Rubber? Burning stuff? What?

On me this opens with crystal clear, bright, shining florals. Sweet, sunny, and crystallized. The patch is WHITE, clear and clean, not a hint of dirtiness. It's cleaner than Coromandel for heaven sake and she's a pretty refined lady.

I quite like this. It's basically a summer patch. As someone who misses Coromandel the whole time the weather is hot this is definitely something I need in my collection.

lilylaurelin

Finally was able to snag this fragrance from a generous family member...and now that I have spent some more time with it I am utterly confused. On me, this is an incredibly overwhelming fragrance, a huge powerhouse that presents much more "bitchier" than when I had first tried it. I think it may be the warmer weather? Anyway, I get so much abrasiveness and "screechiness" at first spray, and like the reviewer wrote below me, I was scared and intimidated. It took a long time for it to dry down to something that I actually enjoyed. Even in the end, when the fierceness was gone, there still wasn't anything there I felt was comforting. I do enjoy how different and interesting this fragrance is, and also the longevity is unparalleled in my opinion. I prefer an arms length sillage so I'm probably not one to judge sillage. All in all, I enjoyed the end of the dry down which was slightly floral and verrrry spicy, but I'm not sure the uniqueness is worth how much the fragrance usually costs.

KimberMoon

At first spritz, I was scared. In the middle of the florals and patchouli, there was a distinct, synthetic, acrid smell of burnt rubber or plastic. For about ten minutes, I would sniff my wrist and wonder who on earth could possibly enjoy this perfume? Thankfully, that note dissipates completely, but, it does take a good twenty minutes, more so if you have sprayed generously. When that is gone, it's a very enjoyable scent. As it wears, it gives me the same sharp, gravelly vibes that you get from Knowing by Estee Lauder, or Aromatics Elixir by Clinique, but unlike Aromatics Elixir, the dry down is softer, and pretty. I think it could smell like hippie patch on a hippie, or be sophisticated in an office setting. Totally depends on the wearer.

Gabler

Milky mild & honey-sweet patchouli with a musky undertone.
Yes.
Sometimes just one sentence is enough.

/Well, just a short impression in addition - there´s something disquieting about this combination of the typical milky mildness & dirty patchouli vibes. It´s gentle but sexy./

raiza1990

This is less stinky than your usual patchouli-heavy scent, but it is still unpleasant. I think the patchouli doesn‘t pair well with the white flowers, and the smoke doesn‘t help. This fragrance is something i will never buy.

susanlouise9

I love Tom Ford's White Patchouli! The bergamot melds into the white flowers note making a citrusy-sweet blend that then merges into a wet forest patchouli note. This amazing scent can be worn regardless of seasons.

eamaccready

Hmm. I'm not sure about this one. In the opening I get lots of peony and light freshy cleaned patch and plastic, but it does calm down and get much more blended and rounded in the drydown and the plastic note goes away. It seems like it might be a nice warm weather patchouli. It gets very clean. Possibly too clean for me, we'll see.

This Is A Recent Purchase For me (Just The other Day Monday The 9th April 2018) & The First Ever Tom Ford Fragrance I've Ever purchased!! Being An Absolute Patchouli Fragrance Lover,I Was Just Itching To Get My Hands On This!! I Can Honestly Say That The Patchouli In This Fragrance Has Indeed Been Washed,As It Deffo Doesn't Have That Dirty/Earthy Aroma That Makes Patchouli Real Patchouli,Although You Know That This Fragrance Indeed Has It In It's Construction!! What Makes This Tom Ford Perfume So Different From The Many Other's Is The Fact That Tom Ford Has Introduced Some Really Beautiful White Blooming Fresh Cut Flowers Into It With A Squeeze Of Fresh Lime Juice When You First Put It On!! It's Smells Shower Fresh,& Very Mood Up-lifting & Seems Really Well Blended & Dries Down Creamy & With A Scuttle Hint Of Fresh Rose!! A Truely Fantastic BlindBuy For Me!! As I Really Do Already Adore It!! Will Up-Date Once I've Wore It Longer!!

BigTaff

This is a recent purchase for me and is my scent of the day.

I live in Dubai, so the scent isn't lasting as long as I had hoped for and that others in cooler climates will / should experience. I will up the number of sprays I apply and see if that helps longevity. Other than that, I get a nice, amber waft now and again (this may be the Patchouli, I'm not so experienced on the individual notes in the fragrance world yet). This is a very easy wear, in my opinion.

Gents, this was launched as a ladies scent in the beginning, as you may know, but has since been changed to unisex. Don't be afraid, give it a go! I don't believe it has a feminine vibe at all.

Princess Patchouli...

For me, this is an original take on the world of patchouli. The patchouli here has been cleaned and paired with white flowers. I get a fresh, clean floral smell with a distant patchouli tang in the background. It's interesting because patchouli itself is a multi-faceted note. It has clean aspects to it, as well as a tangy, peppery spicy aspect. People mistake patchouli as being "dirty" but here, it's the complete opposite. The yin and yang of this composition is the balance between the white flowers and the tangy, slightly spicy patchouli. It's very well made and executed.

I have to say that it has surprised me how clean and wearable this is on the whole. I find it an amazing perfume for a woman. I think on a younger woman this would be fantastic to smell. A man can wear it as long as you don't mind the clean, floral aspect to it. I find it refreshing and I can see this working wonders in spring and summer. Tom Ford never ceases to amaze. Whether it's the Private Blend line or this designer line, you get something unique always. This one is worth picking up.

meissie1982

I own a bottle for quite some time now and this does not get me compliments. But I wear it with proud because I love it!

At first the white flowers are heavy and most upfront. I don't mind that, I enjoy powerhouse perfumes so no big deal.
After 4-6 hours the flowers are softer and begin to let the patchouli come forward. But soft!

This TF does the job well, with this one you don't smell like 8 out of 10 persons you pass on the street.

I can feel the spring in the air and TF White Patchouli gives me this bright and fizzy feeling. The flowers are in bloom. The little green leafs are showing again and me I'm just rocking my TF White Patchouli if you like it or not.

Again: no big deal to me :-)

pickle1334

Bitchy, clean, orgasmic, creamy & glorious. 10/10 for me.

Sandalwood__

When your mother non-stop guilt trips you out of your bottle.... :( Even if I don’t wear it often it’s still a void to be filled veryyyy soon.

atrigg2410

When I first spray it, it reminds me of the perfume Opium, but like 20xs stronger! Then the smell changes. I love it, the way the perfume shows its self in waves. By the end of the day it has more of a lemonie smell. I will definitely buy another bottle.

EnergeticCrab

Patchouli, florals, and mild citrus. White Patchouli is light, which is often a challenge to any frag with this main note in it. Elegant, sophisticated, and a little snooty. On me, this smells like latex party balloons. Must be the spices? Not keeping my sample.

divakitty24

I absolutely don't get any Patchouli at ta'll in the first notes , I get a soapy / peony mix , which thankfully only lasts about 5 ~ 10 minutes tops , then it goes straight to a unique blend of notes , I've not had the pleasure of meeting on my body before . As strangers meeting for the first time { with any new fragrance } it always feels like a pending relationship . With TF WP ~ I felt a bit shy and anxious , within 20 minutes I was a full on flirt . Once I felt the connection , I could not take my mind off this amazing scent , a short period of time ticked by for this to go from " Lust 2 Lover " into a proposal of Marriage . I have not had the pleasure of meeting a White Patchouli blend such as this before , it is fast becoming a not so discreet lover of mine , and I don't care , I'd shout it from the roof top about my fixation of TF WP . I think this is an all reasons / seasons scent and I'll be embracing this for as long as it is here . It is not a strong scent on the dry down which I think makes this so unique , if it was a stronger Patchouli Blend , I would be asking for a " Divorce ". In my mind and on my body this is exotic , warm and sensual kiss in the morning before you are fully awake , you love that full body tingle you get going to that special place , and it for sure puts a full on " Grin " on that loving face ~ /=^ } ~

Let’s just say my mother, today, is trying to take my bottle, and a major portion of me ain’t having it. A gem. I can’t part ways with.

Mirabele

i dont really like it. smells very synthetic to me. but i am not a fan of pathchouli, so this is no surprise.

JenJones28

If you love jasmine then you may really love this. I am obsessed with tiare (not sambac) and tuberose and I really really love this.

For me to admit I love this says a lot, because in general I am openly biased against Tom Ford fragrances because I never thought the quality of the ingredients justified the price point. I always thought that TF just uses his name to cash in and the actual quality just isn’t there.

This fragrance is different for me. I have been searching for a patchouli that I could wear because a lot of patchouli just kind of screams ‘hey I’m a dirty hippie I smoke a lot of weed and I don’t really bathe but I wear a lot of patchouli because it kinda covers and goes with my permanent stoner weed stench.’

I know that is a bit harsh. But I have encountered it enough where a person just reeks of weed and patchouli and it kinda ruins patchouli for me. But this is so clean and earthy at the same time.

I recommend this. Especially if you like jasmine and white florals.

cocolover56

Just a very unusual take on patchouli. It has moments of cleanliness, moments of pure dirtiness. It's like if a hippy that permanently smelt of patchouli oil and soil and decided to try some jasmine oil.

Its kinda cool.

kittymeow84

Yeh nope. Me and rose are not friends it seems. Why does it always smell like plastic or screech on me?

Again with the plastic opening. Once you get past that it starts to get nicer. Probably one of the 'safer' Tom Fords. There is something bright and sheer about it in the middle - maybe peony?

Dries down warm and sweeter.

Quite modern.

Decent projection and longevity as to be expected from TF.

I won't be buying this though. It doesn't recall enough memories or evoke the right feeling on me. Its not a ME fragrance. It doesn't say anything about me that I would want people to know. So in the NO pile it goes!

dalouchi

One word.. Terrible! Sorry Tom Ford

osy2017

Love, love, love this one. I barely can explain how this makes me feel, but definetly I love this one. Very dressy and fancy. I have nothing like it in my collection. I also love long lasting perfumes, they do not disappoint. This on goes on strong the next day, or some couple days after applying, on my clothing.

mschnabel666

I love Tom Ford, but I really dislike patchouli for the most part. (It's amazing when blended and used right, but PURE patchouli-- nope... reminds me of pot and hippies, or else armpit sweat)

But again, I love Tom. Noir Pour Femme, Tobacco Vanille, and all the Orchids.
I found this 100ml for an insanely good price, and I knew the bottle was legit... so I had to. I figured I could resell or swap.

And I'm not sure about it... The patch isn't HUGE or hippie/sweaty it's just spicy. This is very masculine IMO. Or else it's def a NIGHT scent on the right woman-- either a cute hippie girl or a very powerful, sexy confident business woman... lol. (I'm never THAT serious when I say who should wear a perfume. Anyone and everyone should wear exactly what they enjoy!)
This is quality, refined and sophisticated. I'm just not sure it's me. It's 75% spicy, and 25% white florals IMO.
I did a very light 1-spray on my arm to test (I was wearing something else on my body) so I may change my opinion when worn properly on my body. And it's a rainy 60-degree summer day in Upper Michigan if that has anything to do with it.
I could give it to my man I guess.

Still too manly. I'm going to actually use this as a base for other scents. You know, something worn on the skin to GROUND the scent. (Perfumes never last on my skin, so using this on the skin will perfectly layer).
I put on Opium Vapeurs de Parfum on Sunday-- worn on my chest/clothes, and then did 2 sprays on my belly of White Patch. It worked!

francescasmith94

I tested this perfume yesterday and was blown away. To me this is a summer fragrance, of which you only need a couple of sprays. The lasting power and projection is very good and definitely above average. I wanted something feminine that wasn't over the top with sweetness and I think I have found exactly what I was looking for. It's musky and milky and perfect.

Lys_S

Not a review, merely a personal opinion/recollection...
As I am a lover of TF fragrance. I hate this fragrance (on me) with a passion!
You remember being a kid in the 80s/90s when it was swealtering hot in the summer months. You see the glistening of the pool, even though you are burning your feet on the hot concrete, you don't care because you are so close to the pool now and so ready to jump in when you realize you forgot one thing - you can't swim and you haven't blown up your floaties. So you rip open the plastic wrapping on the floatie, the plastic is warm from the sun and you pull it to your lips to blow it up when suddenly you smell it...
THIS IS WHAT WHITE PATCHOULI SMELLS LIKE - warm plastic floaties for the pool.

Hope you enjoyed my story, I hope other people have better memories attached to this fragrance!

Notino sample:

Sorry, Tom, but the opening of this is pretty horrible, in my humble opinion.

It's almost pure marzipan, followed swiftly by a sort of marzipanish, floral cacophony.

Like an orchestra tuning-up...

No idea where that marzipan is coming from?

I will give it a chance, however, as I don't like the opening of Giorgio much, either (in a totally different way), but it then becomes gorgeous on my skin.

10 mins later and it did start to become far less obnoxious.

Very rosy.

At this point, it's a very pleasant rose and patchouli.

Really doesn't feel very "white", at all.

Seeing as (thinking in fashion terms) white is, kind of, the black of the fragrance world.

With the richest, smoothest, creamiest, most intense fragrances coming from white flowers; not highly coloured ones.

I would have thought Tom would have been all about rich and smooth?!

If he was going for that, he should have gone for tuberose (and maybe lily?) in the centre; not generic "white flowers" in the top notes and only a very laid-back, sweet jasmine in the centre.

The rose totally wins, here, on my skin at least.

Boyfriend's verdict, after about 15 mins, was "It's OK. Not exciting.".

After about half an hour, I assume the ambrette started to show, as a metallic edge appeared.

It also, gradually, became slightly spicier.

After about an hour, I get what fyrewoman means about it smelling a little like cola.

It's not bad, at all.

In fact, it's really quite nice and better than some of the other fragrances I have tried, lately - but, because of the dominant notes (which are not really my favourites), probably not something I would bother buying.

Will update on the drydown...

hellok

Opens like paint thinner, dries down to men's aftershave. Disgusting to sexy in 30 minutes. Can't decide how I feel about this one. Reading everyone else's reviews has me a little confused because I don't feel the same way as everyone else. I swear, am I smelling the same thing here? It's unique in its own way in the way only a Tom Ford can be. Not for me, personally, but very intriguing.

fyrewoman

On my skin it makes me think of cola sodas and even TAB soda drink. Must be the mixture of notes with my skin chemistry. This is a very different kind of white floral. The patch seems bright with lime. The coriander is not as masculine as i expected though this would be incredible on men too. There is a dampness, oiliness and a hint of plastic that i love about it. Makes me think about the rainfall in the autumn. The color white does not come to mind while wearing this. I should be wearing this in the fall but have been enjoying this in cold spring evenings lately. A great perfume for all ages.

aschiffm

The epitome of bohemian chic. Opens with a sharp refreshing bergamot, and settles into a powdery counter-culture comfort.

uthman.ahmed

Beautiful, but definitely unisex..

I tested this yesterday. Today i can still smell it close to my wrist. But sillage was long yesterday. Smells great! It says women but in my opinion this is perfectly unisex :)

This is my second review of Tom Ford white patchouli
My former review was all about my hatred towards this perfume but now, after more than a year,I'm growing a love for patchouli, not in all cases, but at least I don't hate it anymore when it's well done,so suddenly in the middle of night I remembered my long time forgotten bottle of white patchouli and decided to give it another sniff
As soon as I sprayed it,I could see why I disliked it,that very sharp opening of bergamot and coriander, while fleshy patchouli and floral sharpness was easy to detect through it.still I'm not fond of the opening part and it smells somehow like cheap-smelling handmade perfume oils which were popular in past where I live,but...
Yes,there is a but here.a huge but...but drydown which doesn't force me wait for a long time,is something I happen to love now!it smells heavenly and I find it one of the most artistically done patchouli scents I have ever had pleasure of smelling
I usually like patchouli when it's blended with vanilla or woody notes or anything which make it smell chocolatey but patchouli isn't woody, dry or chocolatey here.it's fleshy but I love how it grounds florals adding a minty undertone.not a cold toothpaste-like mint,it's warm and it adds elegance and a sexy vibe to pure feminity of white flowers, peony and rose
None of the flowers try to show up as patchouli doesn't insist on making this all about itself, they're all in a perfect harmony
I never ever thought of that someday I'd say that I'm happy that I didn't give away my bottle of white patchouli, although it's not a full 3.4 oz bottle anymore thanks to the decants of it I gave away in past months, but still I have more than half of it's precious juice saved in the bottle and I know that I'm gonna use it with joy.I hope that dear hubby can change his idea about it too because anyway I'm gonna wear it
It's sophisticated and very luscious, also easy to wear and versatile at the same time.longevity and sillage are both impressive.I didn't douse myself in it as I usually tend to do so with other perfumes and still I find it's projection satisfying
White patchouli is a year round fragrance, better for mild weather since it can be overwhelming in heat
Just make sure to not overspray, give it enough time to settle down and don't wear it in hot summer days
❤❤❤❤

Black_Swan

For me, the key to this is to be conservative with application - one light spray is all you need, and then give it a chance to dry down. It is sharp as all get out on first spray, and if it stayed that way I would hate it, but the dry down is harmonious, calm, lovely and very wearable. It's elegant enough for evening wear and casual enough for day wear. It's unlike anything else I've tried - another reason I love it. I think this is one of those scents that is highly dependent on skin chemistry, so definitely try it on your skin before judging it.

karrieann

Sniffing from the bottle, it’s all patchouli.

But once on contact to skin, it’s a powerful opening of bergamot and roses. There is a pepperiness that fades in and out, allowing sweet peony to sparkle through.

There is that menthol patchouli note but it doesn’t overwhelm the other players. He seems to keep the others grounded.

I feel a perfume-induced daydream coming on…

…Oh, what a fantastic party this is! All the “guests” conversing, engaged in one another.

Bringing out the best in each other. Everyone looks amazing and are all so witty and charming.

Ambrette arrives and dims the house lights slightly as she enters, causing everyone to move in a bit closer. Making things a bit more intimate. But the night is still young and the laughter continues.

Beautiful Ms. Rose flits about. I think she is the hostess along with her handsome lover, Mr. Patch. But this couple enjoys their guests and they do their best to make them all shine at this beautiful gala.

Rose & Patch Ford throw the best parties, says everyone there.

79goat5

Smells like wet paint.
End of story.

amanda7187

This is the love child of Miss Dior Eau Fraiche and Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir. Beautiful, lovely, delicious scent.

Edemay

Another disappointing tom ford scent for me
it started out promising, like a hybrid of prada amber and gucci rush.
And a touch of menthol
But it dried down very quickly and turned into what i can only describe as plastic and urine. Sorry

I_Like_Sand

It kind of smells like new plastic.

Vegas Pauli

The patchouli here is not too oily or musky and more medicinal and herbal which makes this interesting and somewhat unisex. Im a guy and I wear this sometimes. There is white flowers in it, but they add a kind of smooth sweetness to the patchouli. This stuff is potent and fairly long-lasting. The dry down is a tad too sweet for me. but it's still nice. The medicinal notes reminds me of Christian Lacroix Absynthe in a way, but this is way nicer, more sophisticated. This will become a classic.

0lga5

Beautiful clean and simple summer scent for me. It was a nice blind buy, good patchouli fragrance.

dyaver

For me it could work as a summer scent, because it's very fresh and citrusy. I don't smell anything else in this perfume apart from patchouli and citruses, but by citruses I don't mean bergamot that is listed among the notes, but pure, freshly squeezed lemon. Fresh and crisp scent for patchouli-based fragrance lovers.

rasteria

Back in Soviet Russia, we had the laundry service for people who worked hard and didn't have time to wash the linens. It was returned to the customer with scent sheets between the layers of linen. That's how this perfume smells, very synthetic smell of clean linen.

susieblue

I've had this perfume for about 6 months now, but I think it doesnt work with my chemistry. It stays too woody on me. However, after wearing this scent I can sometimes smell it on my clothes many days later and it smells completely different and divine. For this reason I've tried wearing this at different times of the month, in different weather etc. But it just does not work on my skin. Also, I cannot put my finger on what it smells like on my clothes. Damn you White Patchouli! I have an almost full 100ml bottle of it if someone cares to swap/buy.

mystica

White Patchouli is distinctively woody. It's rather a unisex perfume leaning more (and apparently) on the feminine side. Patchouli is very clean and elegant. Actually this perfume is breath taking.

White flowers are definitely recognizable but subdued. Rose is also very evident on my skin.

That's one of those perfumes which will change with your chemistry and with the climate conditions. It's not something linear in that sense and not suitable for a blind buy. But if you happened to get it, yes, you need to give this a chance later under different conditions to see how it does with you.

Also, I believe that White Patchouli is signature material. It's just that I can't wear the same perfume (or a few) all the time.

Revontuli

The controversy it created, the reviews. the notes, the bottle and the fact that it's Tom ford were enough reasons for me to blindbuy this and I love blindbuys after all.

But where are those white florals? Where is that beautiful blend? It turned so bitter and incensey on my skin and too "unisex". I waited a while for the notes to develop, hoping that it'd turn into something better but then it got so close to skin that I couldn't even experience it.

I also suspect the ambrette note in this, because I remember that Chanel's No 18 had that similar, disturbing bitterness on my skin.

Such a shame. I will try to make friends with it but I'm also scared that White Patchouli is just not for me...

polkadot27

This is lovely. Very classy and sophisticated it suits the name white patchouli because even though it is a patchouli dominant scent it is very creamy and milky smelling to me and it is patchoulie topped with lashings of white flowers. I do detect pepper in this which gives it that spicy base scent when you sniff your skin hard. I really love this fragrance. I didn't think I would as orchid did nothing for me personally. But this is lovely sophisticated and very high end quality scent. To summate I would describe this as a creamy milky patchouli scent topped with white flowers on a peppery base. This does sort of smell nutty and chocolate on my skin- I really like that about this fragrance it sticks to my skin well. It has a creamy floral nuttiness that makes it gourmand. It is simply beautiful although it is mature smelling- I wouldn't really recommend to anyone under 21 they probably wouldn't appreciate such sophistication. The chocolate nutty dry down reminds me of Lancôme Hypnose and Angel by Thierry Miller. Both have that chocolate nutty scent though in this fragrance it is softer more subtle and creamier and just 100% feminine and non offensive. I will buy this. It is blended beautifully.

This is one of those perfumes that I find difficult to identify the individual notes. The normally earthy patchouli is brightened up with the bergamot and florals to become, well not a traditional patchouli. When I first spray it on, the combined scent is extremely difficult for me to describe, apart from, wow, I love it. (perhaps it is the coriander and ambrette - I'm not overly familiar with these). It does settle down after 30 minutes or so and it becomes more obviously a floral scent with a patchouli base. It does border on being more feminine than unisex, not that that stops me, as a male, from pumping it on. If you are heavy handed with application it will last you all day, with moderate sillage.

This is a brilliant example of how expertly crafted perfumes are more than the sum of their parts.

autoperk

Tom Ford just snuck some sex in a bottle and I bought it. I would buy it all if I could. Not all we ladies can pull off patchouli but those that can, well, we know who we are. I am hooked on the stuff but finding a pure and clean patch candidate can prove challenging.
This fragrance has an intensive opening friends and co workers describe as an amazing floral wash. Mostly I get a patchouli bomb and that's fine by me. Silage is moderate to strong depending on how much is applied. You're in control of the wheel here babe. Longevity you ask? This one`s an all-nighter. Sniff you in the morning.
Middle note features a wallop of cedar balanced by ambrette. Yes at this point I do start to feel as if I've been shopping in the men's department. White Patchouli is not labeled as unisex. Don't tell that to my son who in all his male swag and glory almost fought me for my trail sized sample.
Hail to the mighty ambrette seed, sexual fluidity and open defiance. Shout out to the girl working in a mans world and killing it. To the elegant gentleman that dares to wear this, yea I'm talking to you pal, you've stolen my heart.
Dry down features incense and cedar with a hint of vanilla while the patchouli still lingers. Expect feed back when wearing White Patchouli. My boss said "your perfume is too sexy for work" I immediately ran straight to the ladies room and reapplied. I LOVE this stuff.

ameagari

smells amazing on paper, disappointingly thin on skin. the peony gives it a lightness that doesn't work with everything else and the patchouli is disappointingly clean. i get a kind of tea accord which I'm guessing is the patchouli; i like mine rougher and more pungent. it comes across a lot more fresh and light than expected, but that adds to its versatility as a scent. that said, this is a tom ford scent and I'm expecting to have my head bashed in with much more boldness than white patchouli provides.
my friends said it smelled like cat pee, and i definitely get a nail polish remover comparison. it would be a nice signature scent on a woman over 25 though, just doesn't work on me whatsoever.

batgirl.27

I tried this today and expected to love it, given that I'm a TF fangirl, I love patchouli, and I love white flowers.

I did think it was really nice on the first sniff as that's when the white flowers are at their strongest and it's all rather heady with the patchouli. However, after about 30 mins it's just a bit... meh. Whilst the patchouli does continue to come through the drydown, it all becomes a bit sickly sweet. I really wasn't expecting it to smell almost gourmand and candy-like - I was expecting more smoky incense and sour balsamic in there.

It's perfectly pleasant - but definitely doesn't have the complexity (or daring simplicity) of some of the other TF concotions and it all comes down to rather sticky end.

Sillage is good and longevity pretty impressive too. I won't be purchasing however as it's all a bit too sugary sweet for me.

JackieM

I own it and appreciate it, something about it at first feels opulent to me, but then again I can only describe scents in the abstract. I have a very novice nose. I get a bit of a regal sense from it, but more unhinged, hedonistic Romans and less cruel and bawdy Tudors or restrained Windsors. On the dry down though, I can't get past the feeling that I am wearing a man's cologne that I stole a spritz of when I wasn't supposed to. Like wearing wearing your guy's shirt because you have nothing clean, not because it necessarily suits you. Which isn't to say the scent doesn't smell good or make the cut, it surely does. I just don't know where I fit in there between those Romans and someone else's pants lol.

Tried this as a sample from Sephora after telling the salesperson that I love patchouli. Unfortunately, I hate most white florals and "white" scents, which are usually too sharp for my taste. This is no exception. On me, the patchouli plays second fiddle to the white florals. Possibly an amateurish observation, but - to me it smelled like "perfume!!!" rather than "wow, you smell good." Just not my thing.

Got a little mini of this in a swap and having sampled initially by dabbing I decided to atomise to see if it altered my perception....it did somewhat but not enough to make me like it. The trouble I have is with the top notes. I usually like patchouli but find the patch combined with some other note ( poss the lime?) is coming off really high pitched and solvent like. Some people are saying the rubbery/plastic impression which i really relate to but on my skin it comes off like glue or thinners. This does mellow somewhat and i get to glimpse the lovely white flowers and some gourmand facets which i think comes from the musk mallow, however this really seems to either work with your chemistry or not and sadly not for me.

Thomaso7

I like it. I recommend it for any lady who likes a more rougher or spicy dusty type of scent. it's what I like so it;s nice.

It was a blind buy and unfortunately not my cup of tea
To be honest I don't hate it but there's something in it that I can't get along with..patchouli is not my fav but I usually like it,specially when it's paired with rose and spices
Here patchouli is paired with white florals and spices, and I find the whole composition kind of wiered,I find bergamot and peony fresh here but there is also something heavy and old, something like dead florals or something rotten..it's also sweet with a hint of strange sourness, maybe it's not doing well with my chemistry..I also find it feminine and masculine the same time, sexy and without any sexuality the same time and modern and old fashioned the same time
I usually love the fragrances that stand between the edge of modern and classic but here I don't see these paradoxes good,it feels like it's cheating her personality,I also can't get the point why WHITE patouli,on me it's more of a brown patchouli
Opening part is very loud and harsh for me but when it calms down,I can wear it and tolerate it but I can't like it
I also recieved some negative comments while wearing this so I decided to put it in my drawer and wait for the right time to give it another try
Longevity and sillage is very good and I really wish it worked for me

I got a small sample bottle of this and still trying to decide if I want a full size or not. This smells very rich to me, rich in terms both of ingredients and interestingness and rich as in $$. Very feminine too. But indeed the dry down is masculine as others have mentioned - so it is very very different from what you smell when first sprayed. In the beginning there is a lot of citrucy freshness, interestingly mixed with incense and patchouli. Later on the citrus, floral and incense go away and I feel more of the bergamot, which I suppose gives the masculine feel. Also I am not yet sure I like how ''serious'' this smells, almost as if it is meant for an older lady. Not sure yet about buying the full size, but overall I quite like it. Classy.

tessa2809

Very sophisticated and a subtle kind of sexy, but the flowers are keeping it fresh and work safe. The drydown was a bit masculine on me and somehow reminded me of Kouros - did not see that coming! However I thoroughly enjoy this and will wear it more often :)

I love this eau de parfum. It smells like I remember Cleopatra Creme et Parfum soap from the 1980s on my skin. When I spray it on I get a hit of earthy patchouli. Fifteen minutes later it turns into creamy white florals on a patchouli base. The patchouli (or maybe the ambrette) tempers and softens the white florals. I normally dislike white florals because they often turn cloying on my skin.
ETA: So, after wearing this for a while I have one chief complaint. It has no longevity. Zero. Zilch. Too bad because I love it. Unfortunately it is gone in less than forty-five minutes. Too expensive for something so fleeting.

I bought a Helichrysum italicum essential oil for my skin, and quickly found myself falling in love with the fragrance. Unlike helichrysum floral water, which smells like cat pee and maple, the essential oil has a wonderful floral, herbal, dried grass fragrance. To my delight White Patchouli smells so much like the essential oil. It's herbal, floral, fresh but well grounded by earthy and woody notes. White Patchouli is a definitely patchouli, but a cleaned up, professional, polished patchouli. It is easily unisex and because it is so rich but fresh, it would be wonderful year round. In my humble opinion, this is one of those scents that is pretty damn perfect. Also how beautiful is the advertising campaign? I will definitely be purchasing a full bottle soon.

it will come off as "weird". but this is a more True Patchouli, which can be a bit smoky and oily. very penetrating at first. smells quite resinous and somewhat plasticy at first, but it has that sweet mysterious

It lasts a long time, and changes a LOT as it dries. the musk mallow dominates the end, and persists as a sweet spice. very complex and rich, "opulent" rosy base.

hiuhime's review is on point - White Patchouli either ropes you in or trots right past you on its mystic high horse (that Queen Badu is mounted on in all of her glory, duh).

Me? I want to bathe in this stuff. Maybe drink it so it oozes from my pores? No, but really.. This is minimalist-chic defined, then squeezed in an immaculate white glass bottle. My kinda juice.

I first tested at the Nordstrom counter a year ago and commented to the SA how posh and gorgeous I thought it was. She wrinkled her nose and pointed me in the direction of Velvet Orchid (which I find boring). Despite her reaction I couldn't get WP out of my head/nose and when I found it for a great price I jumped.

It's polarizing for sure, but when WP chooses you there's no denying the siren call. With my chemistry it is sexy, confident yet delicate, and vulgar like a naughty secret. If there is patchouli it's a lush, fresh blast at the opening but I'm not sure that it's patch at all...some other spicy green? Then weaves white flowers, spice, peony, greens and something...rubbery? all with watery red rose. I can smell the interchange of notes 8 hours later, like a cloud of chic seduction.

Rasasi La Yuqawam Femme is almost identical scent..give it a try if you want to save some money.

nikoleta1

Soft patch, not heavy and dirty that some may want.
Nobile patch and feminine I would say. Light, but lasting, to me it is more floral perfume with a patch base. I liked it a lot when it came out yeast ago, my favorite fragrance of Tom Ford, always complemented on this one.

Kalitera

Interesting how differently people react to this perfume! Patchouli is one of my favourite notes. But White Patchouli didn't work for me AT ALL. All i smell is wet cloth. I'd rather go for dark/raw patchouli :)
