Yvresse (Champagne) by Yves Saint Laurent is a Chypre Fruity fragrance for women. Yvresse (Champagne) was launched in 1993. The nose behind this fragrance is Sophia Grojsman. Top notes are Peach, Nectarine, Apricot, Caraway, Anise and Mint; middle notes are Cinnamon, Litchi, Rose, Rose Oil, Carnation, Violet, Iris, Jasmine and Lily-of-the-Valley; base notes are Oakmoss, Amber, Benzoin, Patchouli, Vanilla, Styrax, Cedar, Musk, Coconut and Vetiver.

Yvresse is a sparkly and dizzying fragrance. It was first named Champagne and was created in 1993. It is a fragrance suitable for all occasions and moods and absolutely meets the words of Napoleon: "I drink Champagne when I win, to celebrate... and I drink Champagne when I lose, for solace." This sharp floral-fruity fragrance is still not a classic chypre which demands time to open on the skin. Yvresse's composition sounds short enough, just like the full impact of Champagne: as soon as the brilliant top notes disappear, the scent wraps you with its warmth. The main notes are nectarine, anise, menthol, Otto rose, blue rose, litchi, oak moss, patchouli, vetiver. Yves Saint Laurent changed the name from Champagne to Yvresse because of lawsuits filed by French producers of the sparkling wine that originally bore the name.

I've recently been able to smell some old perfumes from the 90s, including Yvresse kept in its original box.

Thirty years later, I must point out that the staying power and sillage are still incredible; A single spray in the crook of my arm was enough to leave a scent of powdery peach behind me. Quite a vintage powdery scent, you won't find something modern here.

I found it rather nice even if a little dated but, due to a family reunion, my sister smelled it too and she hated it. To her, Yvresse smells like “toilet freshener”. I said to myself that an additional and totally different point of view could be interesting so here I am writing it to you ;)

For my part - and even if I wouldn't go so far as to wear it - Yvresse remains a lovely vintage for those who love peach and powdery perfumes.

Mystères du Château de Dé

My bottle is the champagne cork style but without the "gold foil" effect on the top "pebbly" 1/4 of the bottle, and the "wire" is molded by glass, not an actual wire. The atomizer is pebbly gold. It is called "Yvresse eau de toilette légère" and "nouveau" and is a demonstration bottle of 125ml.

Miraculously intact and fresh smelling, and of Sophia Grojsman blending skill. However, lamentable longevity on this OLD bottle of something called EDT "légère".

Yvresse is indeed quite yellow-orange fruity but it is a proper "kitchen sink" complex blend which will require a number of wearings to explore all the nuances. It seems to be promising as a summer perfume as it has a southern European liqueur vibe. But AFTER said liqueur has been mixed with seltzer and ice. In other words, it does not impact syrupy, but it comes from syrup, more so than fresh, baked or dried fruits. Rather like a Bellini. With the scant longevity, perhaps as briefly enjoyed as a champagne cocktail.

Fresh green fruits with lots of sweetness from flowers and vanilla and nice mossy base. It almost smells like an Austrian herbal soda - Almdudler (something between ginger ale and cola), so I believe that it’s transmitting the meaning of its name. It smells a bit vintage, but sooo nice!

This scent has been with me through thick and thin and it’s one of my absolute favourites if not my favourite of all time. Back in the early 90s, all of my friends wore either Dune or Amarige, but not me. I wore Champagne, I still do, although it’s now called Yvresse. I got tons of compliments and I never revealed the name of the scent. My husband absolutely hates it and thinks it smells like an old lady, that is his mother who doesn’t wear perfume anyway. Help me understand it. This makes me absolutely furious because I can’t spray it whenever or wherever I want. I have to plan when I wear it, when he isn’t around. It’s my forbidden fruit. Anyway, Yvresse is full of ripe fleshy fruits but it’s not a young scent because of the violet, rose, spices and a very nice oakmoss note that makes it a very soft understated chypre, miles away from a true chypre like Paloma Picasso. Maybe understated isn’t the right word because it is beast mode!

I was so LUCKY ! I got the vintage full sized dab-on bottle at my local flea market -- in the box-- for $20.00 ! I guess this is 20 years old now. This smells RICH & GOLD and yeah- a hint of real champagne. It's shear but distinctive. LOVELY and does not smell like anything else I own. Does anyone know: what is a good DUPE for this ?????? Private message me , Please!

sycomore85

Typical of fruity fragrance from 90s. if you like fruity scent worth to try this one.

TheScentualWorld

Incredibly delightful, delicious and voluptuous fruity-floriental. A rich and unapologetic bubbly melange of spices and fruity-mossy goodness, it’s almost edible! Such a beautiful and full-bodied gorgeous, golden elixir.
Vintage is definitely the way to go for this beauty, to experience it fully in all its glory. Enormous sillage and longevity - you will definitely be noticed!
If you can find one, treasure it, wear it and love it as I do. 🥰

Its lovely. Perhaps Grojsman’s best. I would not call this a chypre, its too round and fruity for that. Its more like a glass of champagne with juice of a sweet, ripe, delicious peach - a peach kir royale. Very nice, happy, juicy, peachy, round celebration to surround yourself with. I can see why it reaches such prices from fans online desperate to find more. There is some note here that I don’t recognise but absolutely love. When I wear this I always keep smelling that particular facet and take great delight in it. Not sure what creates this but I love it. They should bring this one back.

MitHsur

I vividly remember when it launched, the drama around the name and the eventual lawsuit by the Champagne industry in France. That original bottle is camp personified. Its a gorgeous masterpiece, and quite over the top. I also remember two distinct types of women wearing it in NYC - VERY well-dressed women who were a bit loud, and drag queens. The renaming, the bottle change - all stopped the champagne flowing unfortunately.

Kcbear28

Personally, I think this is Grojsman's best work. Beautitul beautiful champagne ..I can't get enough of it and I don't even drink! It's undoubtedly a powerhouse. If you like your perfume loud, this is it. Rich, juicy, spicy, sparkling and mouthwatering. Its one of those perfumes I use in December for dinner parties, night outs and whats not. And I over spray too cause you know everyone over sprays during this season, there's no way I'm gonna be outdone! lol It's one of my all time party scents.

I can see why the scent can be too much for some people. It's certainly not your every day, easy to wear sort of scent so be warned. It almost screams "Here come the party". I love it! Not safe to blind buy.

msamber86

This is a really interesting start for me. I haven’t smelled anything like it before. It’s a mix of fruit and mint. The fruit is a nice mix of peach and nectarine (though I want both to be a bit more powerful), and the mint mixes beautifully with it. It brings a sweetness to the fruit without making the fruit too cloying. The spices are just in the background playing with the mint to give it that sharpness of mint.

Then it translates into a spicy clean floral. It leans towards cinnamon for me, which is nice. After a while it becomes warm and sweet.

This is a really nice fragrance and sort of reminds me of La Jardin by Max Factor.

Konga5000

Just sampled this from an old sample card ! OMG where has this been all my life? Golden shimmering nectar . WOW !!!!!

Selfscentred

It is peachy Grojsman-sweet alright, but sparklingly so and it is just THE perfect fruity chypre for late spring and early summer. Fizzy florals never smelled better. Violets also play a substantial part in this juice and you smell them clearly all the way down to the mossy base. Champagne is a must for lovers of contemporary vintages. Have smelled the newer Yvresse versions too, but they do not have the creaminess of the original.

LOST_HORIZON

Champagne YSL is Dante's Divine Comedy in perfumery, it's a fucking hell of peaches and violets that create, for me, the most beautiful fruity chypre ever.

Champagne, and I am not saying Yvresse, that is to say, the oldest of all, whose name was removed... that bottle is the supreme potion. If you have the opportunity to find the first one and the violet is to your taste, you will be able to enjoy the opulent and divine sweet smell of Sophia Grosjman too much.

Personally I am able to enjoy all of them, I enjoy the new Yvresse with a cubed bottle, but its half life and end life are flatter and less dimensional. I also enjoy the discontinued Yvresse, the one in the Fragantica photo, but it's a bit cooler than Champagne.

Champagne is dark, sensual, juicy fruit, night black violets. Its sweetness is as beautiful as the heat of hell and using it lifts you up to heaven, Dante going up to heaven and trying to redeem his sins was wearing Champagne.

I only use it once a year and that day it envelops my body, my soul and heart with a scent that can only come from the best fragrances that were created in the 90s, divine times...

correspondencepersonal

I started researching Yvresse (Champagne) when I found that this was similar to another perfume that I dearly love.
This perfume is more of an alto expression of that perfume

Yvresse (Champagne) by YSL - first impression - peach tea incense (in the alto range of notes). I'm not sure which version I ordered, but this is NOT effervescent - this version is more incense, most definitely.

The first spray blast of Yvresse is in the range of a peach psychic store incense (like the Bodie Tree Bookstore on Melrose in LA, before they closed), loud and bright (this is perhaps an acquired taste, but doesn't lean in the direction of being cheap... this has upper class ingredients).

This is like the crazy fun aunt (this is not anyone in particular, I didn't have anyone in mind with this - this is just like a character sketch) with the overly loud raspy voice that the relatives had sign the "non-disclosure clause" when they found out that she could actually write!

She shows up and turns the average event into a PARTY! She IS the "LIFE of the party"! She's vivacious and gives energy and life to everything that she touches. Some think she's a little brash, but this is all part of her charm.

This lifts off the skin like a freaking rocket -- in an optimistic fashion - definitely waving HELLO!
The first notes of this are really BRIGHT on my skin, almost over powering. The closest association that I have to this would be how I remember Bitter Peach by Tom Ford smelled...although this is not exactly the same, they are both unique - but remind me of each other (in the way that relatives do).

Rare Gold by Avon is similar to this, only more refined, slightly lighter, more polished, professional executive version of Yvresse (Champagne). Yes, Avon created a FREAKING MASTERPIECE with Rare Gold.

----------

Final Verdict -

Yvresse would definitely have to suit the person wearing this. The perfume, when first sprayed, takes on a life of its own and would easily over power someone who doesn't have an equally powerful personality and energy.

If you love the notes in this and are a bit more reserved -- this would be a perfume that you may want to spray right as you step out of the shower, to allow this to settle before you leave the house. Give this time to settle while you do your hair and makeup. (Or, if you really ARE that crazy fun aunt, you may want to carry this in your purse and spritz every hour, just to remind people how FUN you ARE!).

An hour into wear, this is blending more and is less obnoxious. This wears in the same range as an hour into Rare Gold and Beautiful Spring Veil's wear. All three have their own DNA brand ingredients, but the general chord's loudness, silage, and mood are very similar with an hour of wear. (They are not an identical dupe or replacement for each other, but are in a similar family of perfumes).

David Yurman's (gold bottle) is about an octave higher than Yvresse and an hour into the wear, it is still more sparkling and Tinker Bell. Jivalgo Rose Gold is a more lively honey'd peach and is also more sparkling and Tinker Bell.

-----------

On a research search - found a La Rive perfume that is supposed to be similar to this -

Yvresse (Champagne) by YSL - Dupe - La Rive "Look of Woman" - La Rive makes some good dupes, you would have to really look at their reviews and see what others are saying about the comparison of these perfumes.

----------
Final Verdict -

I have a sample of this, not a full bottle. This is definitely too much fun to send back for a return. There are times when you want to wear something fun and uplifting. This is a great perfume for that type of event. I would say that this would be better at an event that was outdoors - or in a large enough space to handle this type of perfume. This is a bit too bold to wear to the office, unless you time it where you are leaving the house and hour or more after you first spray this. The incense note is nice, this would be great for Halloween if you were dressed as a psychic.

pamelapuffadder

I discovered Yvresse a few years ago and wear it nearly every day for months. It has a warm, peachy, floral scent that cheers me up. It's really a beauty. I love chypres and anything Guerlain, but Yvress is addictive. I used to wear vintage Rochas Femme because of that apricot in it. But it's gotten so expensive. So, Yvress fills in. It has held up well for a vintage. I also have recently discovered other YSL perfumes (Paris and Y) that are surprisingly well made. We all know and love Opium, so to realize that YSL made some other unique and beautiful fragrances was a pleasant surprise. I also find no difference between the vintage Champagne and the Yvress.

Schnorticia

(Feb 2022) I discovered this fragrance when I bought a box of used perfumes at an auction last year. I immediately sought out more Yvresse, and am very pleased with this fragrance. It's an optimistic light fruity floral with smiles for miles, not too sweet and definitely not brash. I'm usually a spicy oriental woody gal, so this surprised me with its friendly innocent late-spring-day vibe. Worth a try, not heavy nor cloying, and can be worn year-round. Moderate to low sillage, so good for office/close quarters.

Warmbroodje

For those who miss this great perfume: try the Lotus White Musk solid amber perfume cubes. In The Netherlands you can buy them in stores as WAAR, Sissyboy, but also online. They cost about €5.

venussansfurs

This is my New Year's Eve fragrance. I have it in vintage EDT in the bottle with no name (only Yves Saint Laurent on it, so it was made before they changed it to Yvresse). If you don't like the Prunus family of fruits I'd steer clear of this one because Ms Grojsman cooked up a real peach cobbler here. I get more fruit than flowers from it...other than the aforementioned, I pick up some litchi and coconut and a touch of carnation. This lies on a soft bed of cinnamon, patchouli and cedar. Sweet, tangy and delectable. Great for occasions of celebration.

mimette11

love, love, love, love....
Masterpiece...
The most unique, sophisticated, chic, happy and elegant scent EVER.
Phenomenal longevity and sillage.
Missing you is painful my dear Yvresse the original. The current version is way less impressive.

kelleybelle

@Phantomias, I love it too. I don't care for the Yresse too much, way too defanged from what the original was. I have a little bit of Champagne left over from the 90s and I guard it with my life. Nothing like it. The fruit combination is so delicious and yummy, so in love with Champagne. Truly great and one of my favourites, always. I was disappointed when it had to be reformulated over the name Champagne as that is a French trademark. Going for insane prices on eBay but you MUST get the original. You won't be sorry.

_vanillamilla

I ordered a sample of the scent after reading reviews.
At first spray I loved this scent and it was a very uplifting smell. It made me excited and at first smell I would've bought myself a bottle.
However, as it dryed down it aged and smelt too mature for my liking. (26 y.o for reference)
During wear I get wafts of fruity freshness which I enjoy, which were followed by an old, soapy, mature scent which I don't love.
Not for me.

Phantomias

I've both Yvresse and Champagne parfum, and Champagne is the better scent by far IMHO. Thick and sweet like warm champagne, with a strong but fleeting canned litchi note, C. has modest sillage and decent lasting power. Some reviewers have labeled C. a fruitchouli instead of chypre. The thought of YSL offering a fruitchouli is a little offputting, since I associate poor quality celeb frags with fruitchoulis. But now matter what the label, Champagne is beautiful and I
don't want to be without it.

viewdemonde

I wore this when it was known as “Champagne.” It’s effervescent, just like Champagne. It’s unique, gregarious, ebullient and vivacious. Love it! (Pity they had to change the name, though, because it was perfectly appropriate.)

brightsun2205

Lucky I've got this miniature classic Yvresse fragrance as mum's small gifts, despite being discontinued and reformulated as La Collection. I'll leave it as a display.

It's such an awesome, best, classic and cosy fruitchouli scent.

However, up to 2 sprays as this original fragrance is a sharp fruitchouli and spice bomb. Actually, I don't know what La Collection Yvresse smells like, so don't be afraid to give it a try and hope it will be less heavy.

It is great for Autumn/Winter, day and evening wear.

bintTapputi

This is really beautiful. Deeply complex, warm, sexy, sweet and tasty. Really the whole works. Will dream about adding it to my collection 8.5/10

Latitude-29

When this came out in the 90s, the ad campaigns, the department store displays & the sheer presence of this frag, even turned men's heads & noses accordingly,

Even blokes who weren't into Frags at all, made their wives, girlfriends & mistresses very happy with self-initiated purchases/presents, once they "saw" this fragrance "enter the room"!

I was taken with the image & packaging. The original name "Champagne" . Thought the look of body products; the cork on the lotion 'barrel' & the likewise 'corked' soap case, were works of art.

Guessing like all frags post 2012 doomsday, this too has been killed-off & re-cloned from budget zombie-broth?
Don't want to know really, being a man I don't want to wear it, just happy with the memory pictures as above. Smell too. Don't spoil it for me.

Agnes81

I got a small vintage bottle of the original Champagne version. I was afraid it might have turned. But spraying it today for the first time for myself as a lock down treat it is in perfect condition. As soon as I sprayed it I realized that my mother used to wear this when I was a child. It was her going out scent - reserved for special occasions. Smelling it actually made me cry. It's beautiful and revokes so many memories. The right woman could easily wear this on the right occasion. It has a vintage feel but it smells elegant, regal, alluring, sophisticated. It's dry but creamy and sparkly at the same time. The peach is wonderful - soft, grown-up, not cloying or stuffy.
I don't think I will be able to wear it in public, because of the emotions attached to it, but I will cherish my small bottle and spray it - just for me - whenever I need to feel my mothers presence.

SailorV

I got a really old Yvresse sample in a lot off ebay. The packaging states that Champagne is now called Yvresse, so it must be straight out of the late 90s. It still smells pristine, no signs of turning at all.

The opening is really sparkling like champagne. Would be a great choice for Ney Years Eve. It's fruity too, but in a typical 90s way with a big peach note. If you have tried other fragrances by Sophia Grojsman, it will smell a little familiar. So many of her fragrances from that era have the same peachy floral DNA, even those which don't list peach as a note.
I also get a lot of carnation and light spices. In my opinion carnation is a wonderfully scented flower, but carnation notes in most 80s and 90s perfume don't smell like the real thing. They are so powdery and perfumey that I find them a bit stuffy and dated. It's the case here, too. Only this note, not the rest of the perfume.
But the drydown... Oh, it's so beautiful! Warm, creamy amber and resins, rich sweetness, the milkiest facets of apricots, a sprinkle of rose and violet powder and just a hint of oakmoss to tame it. Many reviews that this is a chypre and not sweet, but either my skin turns it more oriental, or my sample has got a more concentrated vanilla note over the years. I will likely never find out, I just know that it doesn't smell very chypre to me.

If you like Sophia Grojsman's work, 90s peaches and classic carnation notes, you can hardly go wrong with this one. Unsurprisingly it also performs very well, it lasts until you scrub it off in the shower.
It's not for me, but I like it, and I think I want to try the reformulation in the (ugly) beige square bottle.

Ameliadrevein

Found the original champagne version in 50ml with 10ml left for 50aud and surprised tht is 90% similar to current reformulation. I’m expecting to be huge different but no. sillage and longevity are also about the same.unless u found old vintage bottle for a cheaper bargain why not otherwise u probably don’t need to .glad I didn’t end up wasting money to get the vintage version for a higher price.

parrothead58

This is happy smell. It is wonderful. No need to go through all the notes, but it is a peach dominated scent. This lasts a long time and does not go through to many phases. One of my all time favorites and if you look at my wardrobe I have many. LOVE!

star~kitty

I had the original Champagne in the 90s. It came in a gift set with lotion and shower gel.

I. LOVED. IT.

I’m afraid to try Yvresse because of how much I loved Champagne. I recently started a tour of 90s fragrances. Sadly, Tresor is NOT the scent I loved. I’m a sucker for a peach note, and these both had it.

Champagne was absolutely peach effervescence. It was truly a celebration.

icecube

Champagne also exists in pure perfume - would be nice if Fragrantica puts it up.
No idea if Yvresse also exists in pure perfume so enlight me.

kateclarkecosmetics

A masterpiece. Sparking berry fruit with a hint of dust. There is nothing that will ever come close to this! I don’t wear it but I appreciate it for what it is. Simply electrifying.

jung_yunho26

The best of Grosjman along with Magic by Cèline.

Why should we shy away from chypres? They’re storms I understand but in snapshots, they provide glimpses of beauty. Much like how photographs of a tornado ravaging a town would inspire such awe.

To much refinement, this one is how best champagne should be translated into scent. A little bit fruity, sparkly and dry at the same time. A great palate cleanser.

It opens with nectarines and lychee though juicy and syrupy, they’re abated by a desiccated feel. The moss and greenery provide such wonder that it keeps the fruits from being an edible accord. And the caraway, that fennel-ish touch which is used in most orientals uplift the woods and fruits. Splendidly done.

It’s dry like the 70s chypres and I remember those perfumes provide no consolation for women in their astringent and humid accords. But don’t get me wrong, those were magnificent structures.

This one on the other hand shows a facet where playful accords can be elevated to emulate the wondrous chypres of yore.

Same as with my other reviews, I think the La Collection iteration is faithful to the original composition. Only, seamlessness deducted. Get it :)

Jacquelyn1

I have had both, Champagne and Yvresse, they are the same, only the name has changed. I pray to God YSL NEVER changes this formula. I’m not a sweet, floral, fruity fragrance lover at all, and this isn’t like that. At the same time it will still appeal to those who do like that. Yes, it’s a rich, beautiful, magical, chypre masterpiece. I never want to be without it.

dvlcis

A chypre with champagne, apricots and classy carnations. Nothing could go wrong. It smells amazing, I think it is one of the best evening perfumes for women. It is a joy to wear it.

Performs great too- sillage, lasting power, both big.

InvisibleVehicle

such an exuberant top note that echoes through to the end, which has been recreated with great finesse in fragrifert parfumeur's celestine. it's the "roundness" and realism of the apricot and litchi. how champagne tastes after you've had a few glasses with dessert at a wedding and don't taste the alcohol anymore. it smells like the opposite of Y2K doom and acceleration of sinister technology. i imagine anyone who wore this from around the mid-90s to early 2000s as optimistic, kind of daffy and oblivious, with disarming charisma

jolla

I can understand xpaperdolls review in a way because this perfume is not for everyone. For me this is a masterpiece. Never tried anything remotely similar to this, I would say it is quite unique. It Will always be one of my top 5 fragrances. It is the perfect peach, flowery scent that just mix perfectly with my body chemistry. It is very fruity, which I usually don’t like, But fruity in a sophisticated way. Whenever I wear it I get complimented and asked what I wear. This perfume is romantic and happy. You know the first couple of months when you fallen in love and feel happy and bubbly all the time? This perfume, for me, represent that feeling. I’ feel like it’s a hidden gem because I don’t hear people talk about it that much compared to other vintage perfumes, which also is a bonus. I use the new formula but have had this formula earlier and I would say they are very similar compared to other reformulations. Spray it on your wrist, wait 20 minutes and let the magic happen. Because this is a vintage one simply cannot miss out on

molly1217

My champagne so probably produced in 1993. Talk about it, this is related to a story……first, from the appearance of perfume, I do not think it should be renamed (This is considered a violation of the rights of champagne factory) but the result is, Yvresse was only way to continue to sell, I feel depressed.Champagne is famous fruity chypre, but the inside is actually more like candied fruit, not so sweet, more like a feeling of canned fruit. It is very light, bright, cheerful, bubbling, very much like real champagne.I was lucky to have champagne, I will always love it!

MossyBerry

@xpaperdoll: I love vintage Champagne AND I understand your review. It is not for everyone. I have not tried the current version but I think Perfumistas should try the vintage AND read your review🙂.

sara lii

This was one of my favorite perfumes ever! I used to spray it a couple of times before I go out and my roommates always commented on how the smell would linger in the corridor. I could smell it on my coat 2 weeks after I had sprayed it. It was very fruity but very dense. It was sooo good and I got so many compliments wearing it.
I have the new reformulated bottle, I can see the resemblance but definitely NOT the same.

tinkerbelllx

After 6 years of patiently waiting to find a bottle of my very own, I was lucky enough to buy one at a local Antique Fair for a reasonable price. I can’t get enough of this fragrance. There’s something captivating after the dry down time and I just can’t figure out which note is the one to thank. I read one of the notes is patchouli and I absolutely hate the scent of patchouli on my skin. I’m not sure which note, helps tone down the patchouli note but I’m so grateful for it. I am now on the look out for a backup bottle. This is a beautiful scent. All I can say is that I want more!

amethyst123

This perfume makes me feel beautiful.

Champagne (Ivresse) also exists in extract/pure perfume.
Would be great if Fragrantica will add it.
It is so wonderfull.

I got a part bottle for now because it is pricy for a blind buy.
But £19 for 25 ml is bloody amazing , way to good to pass up , I been
Spraying this non stop for a good few days now and getting a feel for this fruity Chypre .
It’s possible that a few top notes are gone as I’m only getting a bit of the bubbly start others
Mention , I’m getting woodsy , mossy notes mixed with apricots.
I saw a you tube video review and the fella said it smells like juicy fruit chewing gum,
It’s true, I get that vibe too.

From this bottle I would categorise this in a classical section, it’s not fresh or modern candy sweet at all, instead it’s a tailored and in my opinion a touch serious , dusty and fusty in a nice kind of way, rem my bottle may lack fresher notes ?

I’m getting a little bit of menthol I understand it helps to give the chilly cold feel of a real bottle of bubbly. In fact if I keep sniffing my arm I start to really get a tickly cold nose just a bit.
I find oakmoss heavy perfumes not always too my liking but the fruity juicy peach and nectarine keeps this fragrance a touch youthful and not mentally dark and heavy :)
That said this is no airy fairy perfume , it’s got a thoughtful side, but is plush and warm and somehow inviting from the hints of cinnamon and beautifully constructed .
Every 15 mins it unfolds a little more and I notice a note that I never picked up on b4.
They just don’t make them like this any more , so many notes , well crafted.
best after 10 mins when it meshes with skin and powdery musky
notes come out leaving some of the brasher top notes behind.

Sadly for me I prefer to test this over and over again indoors , rather than wear anywhere, i like it a lot but its too serious for me , but yet i see why its loved.

Side note : I imagine Mme. peignoir the classy french woman In Fawlty towers uk comedy to rock this !

Have Just Bought Myself An 80ml YSL La Collection Yvresse edt As I've Never Owned This Perfume & This Past Few Year's I've Had A Longing To Own It & Now I Do!! I Actually Remember This Perfume Being Launched In The 90s & All The Hype That Surrounded It,& The Beautiful 5ml Miniature Sample Bottle In The Small Shinny Golden Box!! My Goodness I Was In My Early Twenties Then & I Honestly Wasn't Very Keen On Champagne As It Was Called Then Nor Did I Really Understand Fragrance As I Do Now!! & Stupidly I Passed My Sample Onto My Mother Who Also Wasn't That Keen On It & Passed It Onto My Grandmother Who Absolutely Adored It,& Who Went On To Buy A Few Bottles Of It!! Now I'm In My Late Forties I Was Eager To Try It,& 0 My Goodness I Not Only Absolutely Love It,It Smells Absolutely Outstanding On Me!! So Classy So Expensive & Deffo A Perfume That I Know Will Always Wear & Own!! You Could Say That I've Now Grown Into YSL Yvresse & I'm The Right Age To Enjoy It!! I Agree 100% That This Perfume Does Indeed Remind Me Very Much Of My All Time Favourite Guerlain Mitsouko Which I Love & Wear Although Yvresse Is Deffo NOT As Animalistic & Dark As Mitsouko!! This Fragrance Is Also More Sparkling Just Like A Glass Of Really Expensive Champagne Where The Bubbles Actually Tickle Your Nose!! It Really Does Start Of Very Peachy At First Which Last's All Of About 10mins & Then The Most Beautiful Nectarine & Anise Followed By Mint/Menthol,Otto Rose & Blue Rose,Litchi,Gorgeous Oak Moss,Earthy Patchouli & Vetiver Giving This Fragrance It's Sharp Floral-fruity Aroma Like No Other!! The Longtitivity Of This edt Is Absolutely Outstanding At 23+ Hour's Still Smelling It The Next Morning In A weak edt Way!! My Husband Already Absolutely Loves Yvresse On Me,& Has Asked Me To Please Wear It Around Him More Often!! Guerlain's Champs Elysee Also Has This Effect On Him As Well So Must Wear These Pair With Caution!! lol'lol'lol'lol "Man Magnet's"!!

Thanks to a generous friend at work, who gave me a bag full of vintage perfums, I am now a lucky owner of a 100 ml of the original Champagne Eau de toilette.
Upon the first spray, on my skin, this juice surrounded me in a not too sweet peach melba fruit cocktail cloud, and a bit of anisy touch for balance - a sparkle of happiness! A while later I sense a faint lychee-coconut-vanilla, siding with the peach and apricot, along with wonderful and quiet notes of powdery iris and a subtle carnation scent. Oakmoss glides in smoothly with patchouly and with woodsy notes at the end, it stays like this for around 8 hours. Throughout I can sense peach, but toned down at the end. This on my skin was a magic, fun and longlasting experience. This is truly a fruity, fizzy, and totally unique 70ies powerbomb!

Just bought a 50ml bottle of the vintage Champagne: lovely warm soft stonefruit, the minty aniseed lifting it away from too much sweetness. Reminiscent of Femme, Quadrille and Mitsouko though less animalic and dark than Femme and less dusty and funereal than Mitsouko (can't remember Quadrille clearly, so long since I smelt it), and while Mitsouko has such a depressive, annihilating effect on me, Champagne does the opposite: warms and comforts. It's a conundrum that these two perfumes can be similar in character yet poles apart in spirit.

Remember when I bought my first bottle of “ Champagne” . It was The feeling of buying style and class in a bottle. I remember The exclusive and sassy bottle with a sparkling scent. Really love it still. Longevity and silage are above average. Will never stop loving this.

FloraVe

Yvresse (Champagne) is my treasure in a 50ml bottle, the old version.I'm happy to have this fragrance in my collection.!

Le parfum c'est chic

For me,perfume is chic and the Chypre ones are more than chic...I love green chypre, leather chypre and fruity chypre. I simply want all of them. The vintage ones with a lot of oakmoss. I like the gourmand side of the fruity one. The opening of Champagne is sparkling and tasty with the nectarine and litchi notes. The mint and anise bring a nice twist of piquant. Gorgeous and unique. It's ennivrant like a glass of champagne.

@Fairyduff
Assuming that this was a sincere representation of events, which might be debatable if you take into consideration certain parts of their introduction, that this other person mentioned using what appears to be a hard to get, vintage scent as an air freshener without performing at least a little bit of research, along with them wearing inoffensive scents at the workplace, I believe that it does not justify such a questionable move. If this is as valuable a scent as claimed and if they received it as a gift, this usually would have required a rather substantial occasion. They might not have valued it accordingly, but that does not justify effectively taking it away from them while possibly deceiving them about its actual value.

The best perfume ever made, it is a bubbly happy potion to wear in days you feel (or want to feel) fabulous! It is celebration in a bottle! Chic and feminine! Peach and a just opened bottle of champagne in a fresh green patchouly happy evening!
I first smelled Champagne in the mid 90's when I was too teen to wear it. One of my best friends' mom wore it and the traces in the air brought joy to joyous days! Now that I have the confidence and taste for vintage and well composed fragrances, I can finally pull it off.

LiliaBetty

Oh la la.. someone sold a 100ml bottle to me and I can’t stop sniffing my arms.. I never knew a chypre could be this beautiful. so calming, so mysteriously dark and very potent for an edt. it is pure love for me. Its enchantingly beautiful like a magical forest.

Christycaxxx

Not one of my favourites. Very strong for me and I’m not fond of the sharp, heavy scent as I prefer the lighter, sweeter florals. I kept it in my collection as it was gifted to me by my husband and he likes it. But the scent does lasts quite a long time and if I do wear it, it would be more of a night time going to an event sort of fragrance than a date fragrance.

MixedTastes

I finally scored 20 mls of this in the original (gorgeous) bottle and with the name Champagne. I remember my mother having a bottle of this years ago and it is just as magical as I had remembered.

Mossy, peachy, powdery, earthy. Like a spiced peach tea with a dash of apricot liqueur. It makes my heart sing! I will treasure this. Love.

gtabasso

beautiful; sparkling and fresh, yet dark, with cinnamon, spice, apricot and peach, some carnation; completely unique, a depth of musk and patch, hint of mint that brightens everything, not a chypre; honestly? my best description is a soft fruitchouli with cinnamon or a peach pie with cinnamon.

lisieux

Oh beautiful Champagne. It's festive and bubbly just like its first name (later having to be changed to Yvresse after the champagne companies complained). Fizzy aldehydes with peach, rose, oakmoss...it's intoxicating like its name and I still wear it every New Years!

lucianuncio

I was too young when I wore it but it is a lovely perfume. For the mature, elegant and seductive woman then. A night out at the theater... and the subsequent intimate moments, I dare say...

LadyIva

This is exactly the type of scent that I cannot wear at all, because it turns horrible on my skin. YSL Yvresse (a.k.a. Champagne) is one of those crazy 1990s fruit salads, such as Cacharel Eden, Chanel Christalle EDP and such. My skin always amplifies those synthetic fruity notes, especially peach, nectarine, apricot, pineapple, melon... yuck! In particular, peach is my bum note. I don’t know what chemicals are used to imitate those fruits, but they certainly stink. Moreover, it seems that Sophia Grojsman’s creations just don’t work for me - I’m yet to find her creation that is barely wearable. To cut the long story short, Yvresse smells like a children’s cough syrup with artificial peach flavour. It’s classified as a chypre and supposed to develop in that direction, but it doesn’t happen - the stupid peach simply overpowers everything.

@NicoleET88

My head is spinning with the enormity of this thought

Your friend was using vintage YSL Champagne as air freshener!!!??

Do not continue to feel bad about lifting it from her.

NicoleET88

I feel a bit bad, I convinced a work colleague to give me her vintage, nearly full 1 oz bottle, still living in it's box. It even had the original "Champagne" moniker. She was a very young woman, still enthralled by trendy Fruity-Florals, so she parted with it easily. She said she'd received it as a gift and had only been occasionally spraying it around as air freshener. I feel badly because I knew it was a gem, but was secretly very glad she didn't, and then happily trotted off with my treasure.

That being said, I don't even wear it. It's beautiful artwork but it doesn't play nice with me. Most perfumes, even the heady and fabulous classics, shift a bit on my skin, allowing me to make it my own. Champagne is Champagne the whole way through. Not until many many hours in does it soften and melt into me. I guess you could say I find it a bit brash. I have the same problem with the original Paris. Maybe YSL isn't my house.

Perfumeaddict777

This review is for the vintage Yvresse. This perfume, even though made in the 90's, makes me think of the 70's. A classy lady in a red dress , sipping peach champagne at a Christmas Party. It reminds me of fragrances from the 60s and 70s. At first spray I get very sweet syrupy peaches, cinnamon and apricots. I smell Oak Moss, dry and earthy. Soon after that I smell Apple, even though it's not listed in the notes. At this point it smells like an apple cinnamon pie. If I sit here and smell it I can sniff out Violet, Iris and carnation the Carnation is the most prominent floral note in the composition. Spicy Carnation and cinnamon, juicy Sweet Peach, warm thick Amber, cool mint and cold earthy oakmoss make this fragrance warm and sparkly. It smells like the holidays. It is a very rich, dense, syrupy, sweet , sparkling, warm Peach champagne. It's delicious.

cocolover56

From the notes what I detect is stone fruit, violets, rose and definitely oakmoss. These notes do NOT represent what this scent is, except maybe the oakmoss (which is the most dominant note to me). The notes are indeed what is listed, but its so meticulously blended that the notes are not important.

My friend gave me her almost empty bottle of this, several months ago so I could use it as a reference point. There was around 2mL of it, and now there's around 0.5. I only wish I could've purchased this when it was available because it is stunning.

This is a sparkly and beautifully constructed fragrance. While the new version is definitely different, it stayed reasonably true to its roots. Less mossy and less interesting but the fizzy opening remains the same. The stone fruits appear later on for me, not so much as top notes. It progresses like drinking a glass of champagne does. Just stunning.

chloematilda

I do remember trying this years ago when it was first released. I'm afraid my young uneducated nose wrote it off as not for me - something I now regret. I've been missing out on all these years.

This fragrance does indeed sparkle, and made me smile from my first spray - which incidently lasted more that 24 hours. I kept getting wafts of a wonderful clean light fragrance and realized it was me - and my Yvresse.

It is a perfectly balanced complex fruity floral. There is no single note that stands alone after drydown, it is simply so well made and truly beautiful. It is not "too" anything - not too sweet, not too spicy, not too woody - it is simply perfection in a bottle.

What saddens me is that there are fragrance collectors worldwide hanging onto their original "Champagne" bottles, and their vintage Yvresse bottles waiting for the price to go up. This is a fragrance to be worn and enjoyed. Go on people - spray away and sparkle!

diamond74

Champagne and I met in 1995. Love at first sniff, I can't even begin to describe how enamored i am. This is the only perfume that I have ever really remembered and longed for all these years. Warm, rich amber, intoxicating musk and sweet floral, liquid gold in a bottle. This made me feel like a beautiful Persian princess, and no other perfume I have in my collection now can ever compare to this.

SuzanneS

I bought a bottle of Champagne edt when it was released. It has a beautiful strong bubbly aldehyde note followed by the luscious fruit.

Im sampling Yvresse, the changed name vintage. This as very minimal aldehydes and opens into the fruit much more quickly. This was made when perfumary was still an art form, not a get rich moneymaker with the bottom line as the focus.

Its warm, slightly sweet and intoxicating. If you have to choose one fruit type fragrance in your wardrobe..make it Yvresse/Champagne.

Silkselkie

Okay, so, remember the scene in Labyrinth when Hoggle gives Sarah the Peach of Questionable Intentions? And the peach sends her off to iridescent-splendid masqueradeville wherein she is suddenly wearing that MAGNIFICENT frothy dress and dances with David freaking Bowie? As the world falls down?

This is without a doubt the perfume equivalent of that.

The more I discover her work, the more Sophia Grojsman is becoming my favorite nose. The bottle I am wearing is a vintage "Champagne" I scored off of EBay for a song. Champagne/Yvresse is a fantasy juicy peach eaten with uninhibited relish on a bed of soft faerie-moss, deep and earthy and rich. It effervesces like Jareth's magical crystal-bubbles and caresses you with gossamer nectarine, magical patchouli, and the barest whisper of rose syrup, but there are so many gorgeous notes in this flickering in and out my untrained nose can barely distinguish them. It's Sarah in that magical ballroom, overwhelmed and shy, but intrigued in the face of so many mysterious and fanciful guests dancing in and out of her reeling line of sight, before locking eyes with the Goblin King, he of majestic peach and oakmoss and dry, fragrant spices who grounds the whole effervescent, festive composition.

Totally glorious. Totally fabulous. Dance, magic, dance!

Chebly

I have a very vintage bottle of the pure perfume from when it was still called Champagne and it's incredible. It's bright and bubbly and makes you feel wonderful but having said that it's also very sensual, I think a lot of perfumes of that time were. It's a warm and intoxicating perfume and I always get many compliments when wearing it although I save it for special occasions. A small dab on wrists lasts all night and is still present the following morning. For anyone not sure I would say buy it, you won't be disappointed.

_christine_

Ridiculously beautiful.

I have a vintage version of the EDT with the Champagne branding. Yes, the note list is huge and you will smell every single one of those notes. This is an exceedingly well-crafted fragrance, and notes move forward and fade elegantly.

Whether you call it Champagne or Intoxication - it's the right name this is a sparkling, heady juice.

TaleOfTheRose

My bottle has Champagne written on it. As the original name suggested, it is a bubbly parfum opens with sparkling aldehydic apricot, lychee, peach, nectarine top notes. There is a hint of sweetness that is just right for me (I don't like sugary perfume). Later, it develops into warmer floral notes and then dries down to beautiful amber. It is very complex and festive at the same time.
A perfect warm weather perfume but I wear it whenever I feel like or need to lift my mood - as Napoleon said: "I drink Champagne when I win, to celebrate... and I drink Champagne when I lose, for solace."

carolyn.parker

Champagne is a delicious fruit cocktail flavored day wear perfume. Not a single note of champagne but it has the bright sweet bubbly effervescence of a champagne when you first smell it off a bottle. This is my kind of perfume but it's clearly meant to be worn in summer. As I live in South Carolina where the climate & the weather is warm all year round, even tonight on December 31 New Years Eve, I can still wear this beauty to my New Years Eve party in Hilton Head Island. This is a party perfume if I ever smelled one.

The opening is a boozy fruit punch, like the punch bowl that was spiked with alcohol. A sweet aroma of peach, apricot, and nectarine. In today's perfume business, the pairing of this much fruit is rare but it was very common in the 80's and 90's. This is the same type of sweet fruity or fruity floral that you get from such fragrances as Chloe Narcisse, my favorite, Donna by Pavarotti, and Volupte by Oscar De La Renta. This is a Sophia Grojsman fragrance and her nose can certainly pull off fruity perfume.

This is so delectable, and lifts your spirits right up. You can't wear this with dreary gloomy black colors. This is a pretty summer dress perfume, halter top, cocktail dress. It's a feminine fragrance which smells unmistakably classy and elegant but festive. At times it does seem to pay homage to Femme by Rochas. Other times it has the Casmir by Chopard type of vibe.

Rose (and rose oil), jasmine, lily, violet, iris and carnation floral notes compose the floral heart of this perfume. With this many flowers some notes stand out more than others. To me the iris is almost non-existent because I don't get a powdery iris out of it. It's more a violet, heady and fragrant, and a rich deep rose, along with a jasmine. A gorgeous floral aroma which is heightened by the sweet presence of fruit notes, namely that apricot nectar.

When dry, this fragrance is a tad more Oriental in the style of Casmir by Chopard. There's moss, cedar wood, patchouli, syrax and perhaps a little musk. This is a well crafted base which gives the fruit and flowers enough support and it also provides the fragrance with longevity. Super sillage and longevity is what I look for in fragrances.

Even with the Oriental notes including patchouli and styrax, you are still getting a more Western style fruity floral. It has sweet spicy edges. You can even detect cinnamon, caraway and coconut. I wish they had a matching body lotion. Because this is quite strong, just a little of it as all you need. I spritz this two times on my neck and that's that. Even with just two spritz you get a lot of attention because it does project and people can totally smell it. It's quite a rich juicy concentration of perfume. One can get so intoxicated! It's too much for some people.

A good alternative is the Eau de Toilette version which is similar but lighter and with many of the notes taken away. I prefer this au de parfum because I love the way the fragrance develops and it's fun to pick out which notes are which. Love it. Love everything about it. The fruit, florals and woods.

A touch of vanilla sweetness comes toward the end, a nice touch.

This is on you for well over 8 hours. This is a pretty perfume, fun, festive, flirty, even if mature. It is a celebratory joyful perfume for the life of the party which I'll be tonight for sure.

Happy New Year

Marie69

I love this scent. Just love it. Of course I love to drink champagne also, so makes sense. Ms. Sophia Grojsman is truly a Gennie in a bottle, as she can create so many different, and truly unique scents. Champagne reminds me a little bit of Guerlain´s Nahema, with the peach, rose accord. I also get a black currant note in the opening. To me, this scent is one of the few which borders the vintage and the modern eras of perfumes as it has the richness of vintage but also light touches of fruit, with florals all the way along, and spicies and ozone too, so all in all, this is some combo. Sweet, yes as SG does not play around with milktoast blends..., but other tones tame down the sugar and pump out fruity and spicey tones all at the same time. Very very unique. Cannot smell cheap, no matter how hard it would try.

O-Carolina

Yes! - So delicious it hurts.... I love that comment from a previous perfumista :) This juice makes me do a little happy dance!

theuntrainednose

This is the happiest, brightest fragrance I own.

I don't usually go for fruity scents, but this one is like a freshly made fruit drink, juicy and happy and with white wine for refreshment. Effervescent, bubbly, sunny.

I smell this and it makes me smile.

It does evolve and show more complex facets, chypre that it is. But always bright and happy and juicy and like a sunny spring afternoon.

---

I own a bottle decanted from a tester when a local perfume store closed.

---

Update: It lasts really long. Always fruity and juicy, and not in a sickly sweet way. Oddly, it reminds me of a deeply fragrant pear. I enjoy it a lot.

marwa.qoura

I am so lucky .. Once again I scored a vintage very rare perfume with champagne written on it ..I sprayed it on my wrist immediately as I got home , oh my so unique and powerful , certainly an old school , well made juice..Chypre- fruity isn't usually my cup of tea in perfumes , but I wouldn't have left that great opportunity to score this with such a price ..People say it smells like champagne cocktails , or a fruity champagne , I don't indulge in alcohol or smelled champagne before , but I do think this what expensive champagne should smell like ...

lucia.lawson

CHAMPAGNE BEFORE THE LAW SUIT

That law suit was nonsense!

Why did they not sue Germaine Montiel who named his fragrance Champagne as well? This was just a way for those Frenchies in the wine business to get money off millionaire Yves Saint Laurent. Sophia Grojsman, the mistress of all perfumes, created this delicious wonderful fruit drink. This is such a delectable fruit juice. I wish I could drink it without ending up in the emergency room!

The apricot, tangerine and peach, along with litchi makes this such a sweet fruity perfume. The fruit is not the sugary gourmand fruit in today's perfumes. This is real concentrated fruit juice and more like actual champagne or wine, a fruit cocktail. Smells like drinking fruit flavored champagne in the South of France. No aldehydes but something bright and bubbly about it, like they actually put in a champagne note. Delicious.

The heart is floral with pronounced roses (2 notes of rose) and a violet. I could also detect a white flower I think it might have been gardenia or lily of the valley. The gardenia smelled like vanilla or it was the actual vanilla in the dry down. The vanilla also gives it a creaminess, a sweetness. There's benzoin which also smells creamy, and incensed. It's warm with Oriental touches of patchouli, moss and wood. Beautiful fruity Oriental.

This smells very good and it's perfect to wear in the summer time. It matches up with flirty cocktail dresses. I wore this to parties when I was married to a professor and I myself was a professor in the same faculty. I always received sincere compliments on how nice my perfume smelled on me. I think this is a beautiful and very underrated perfume. I find it a bit similar to Casmir by Chopard, Volupte by Oscar de La Renta and Donna by Pavarotti and I would alternate and wear these 2 perfumes to summer parties.

Delicious champagne.

Bottoms up.

Madrona

I find that I have a hard time with many of the scents Sophia Grojsman has created (Sun Moon Stars, Trésor, Paris). In this one, we have peach, nectarine AND apricot, three notes that I very much dislike in perfume generally. Together... well, I'm actually surprised at how well I am stomaching this. It's rather syrupy, somehow.

Delicious fruit cocktail. It's like someone made a champagne with fruit in it. There's sweet sticky apricot nectar and peaches. There's also coconut. You gotta really love fruity fragrances. I was hoping that even though it's not listed there would be an alcoholic scent similar to champagne. No such thing. There is however a vanilla which can almost pass for a bourbon vanilla scent somewhat boozy. For whatever reason it does become boozy but not in the way I've smelled "booze" in other perfumes. This is strictly a floral fruity and the kind that was very popular in the 80s and 90s. If you liked Tresor by Lancôme and Cashmir by Chopard or Donna by Pavarotti as well as Volupte by Oscar de La Renta you will embrace this fragrance. It's also got some cinnamon which I can totally smell. The flowers are not very fragrant this time around. I can make out the violet and rose and the carnation. Sweet floral fruity concoction. Some people have compared it to Femme by Rochas and I can see why. The dry down especially becomes woodsy and filled with all the aromatic and strong base notes of all good perfumes: styrax, wood, vetiver , patchouli amber musk, benzoin, oak moss. I think there was a lot of oak moss. Absolutely beautiful.

missdeeblue

I recieved this as a gift from my Father in 1994, having no idea that YSL were just about to be legally challenged to drop the name from Champagne to Yvresse, I sprayed Champagne daily, throwing bottle into Uni bag, denting the box. Little did I know I was tossing around a potential rare collectable. It was only when I returned to the shops sometime later, to re-buy, I discovered my darling Champagne had gone :( It had been re-branded Yvresse, somewhat different. 20 Years on Im glad to say I have repurchased a boxed Champagne original. As soon as I sprayed it (just one little half spray) I realised this is my perfume of dreams. It has everything a perfume collector could wish for. Even its deep golden colour, resembling the hard work of 100 honey bees, Its bottle (champagne cork metal cage design), even its beautiful golden box with deep Cardinal red lining. Simpy heaven. The scent is deep, syrupy - think of peaches in a pan, pounded down, mixed with exotic spices & honey, a splash of rosewater and glugs of veuve-clicquot grand dame.. Then simmered on an open flame of amber coals. Im not kidding you. Its so delicious it hurts. Its projection is massive, longevity almost makes one second think bedtime bath, as I find I am literally washing it off.. its that long lasting. oh Champagne - why did this love story end?

mruf1

There are so many reviews that say this is heavy. I don't think it is heavy at all. I'm dabbing from a sample, and it is nice, but I can hardy even smell it after an hour. It is supposed to be a vintage sample, but it does not smell vintage to me at all, or that powdery. I do get the peach, but I have had much more peach in Burberry Woman.

RainyDayGirl

Oh my, another perfume I just adore. It's floral, but not overpoweringly so - I hate really strong florals. On me it seems really more woody and green with a hint of spice. It's also not a cloying or heavy fragrance - a huge bonus living in hot, humid North Queensland - where you definitely don't want strong heavy perfumes. So a spritz straight from the fridge (I store all my fave perfumes in the fridge door - where they last for years without going stale or evaporating) gives a wonderful cool, fresh boost for the day, or night, that always elevates my feel-good factor.

Gigi The Fashionista

Opening up a bottle of CHAMPAGNE to wear on my skin for New Years Eve. Sophia Grosjman my favorite modern nose is behind the artistry of this beautiful fragrance for Yves Saint Laurent. It was renamed Yvresse after the French champagne industry sued Yves Saint Laurent for even calling it champagne! Why didn't they do the same thing with Germaine Montiel's Champagne I wonder. YSL Champagne is not as alcoholic a champagne as Montiel's Champagne which contains a note of actual champagne. This one wears like the biggest most delicious fruit cocktail ever. Apricot, nectarine, and peach are each noticeable as the fragrance starts to work it's magic. Then you get some floral scents of carnation, rose, iris, violet and lily of the valley. The rose and carnation are the bigger floral accords. But these flowers are not your average floral scents. They have been spiced up with cinnamon and sweetened by coconut and vanilla. This is a gourmand fragrance but richer and heavier with 21 notes including base notes of patchouli and woods like oak moss oak and even some vetiver. This was a 90's floral chypre that had a lot going on. It can behave like Femme by Rochas - fruity with musky dry down. But I love it. If you liked vintage Femme you'll love this one. It's beautiful and a fragrance that always makes me want to celebrate and wear it at parties. I associate this fragrance with summer and spring but it can be worn at any time in warm climate weather even in December like Florida where it's warm all year round. No getting anything unisex out of this not even with the woods patchouli and musk. This wears like the fruit in Carmen Miranda's hat. Love it! Happy New Year.

Kmam

Fun, light fruity chypre. As it dries down, it reminds me of one of my old discontinued 90's favourites, Deci Dela (thanks to the nectarine, I imagine). Love it.

ParfumAmour

Over powering fruit, too sweet and sickly, very disappointed and threw it away.

ClairaNoir

This was my first venture into the chypre family, and I'm honestly still undecided with this one.

I was fortunate enough to obtain a vintage decant and the fragrance itself is gorgeous. At first sniff, Champagne is most certainly not my perfume, but after a couple hours she transforms into a classic bombshell while still being a demure lady. I'd imagine if Jayne Mansfield and Jackie O had a love child and that child created a perfume, Champagne would be it.

It's likely that it's just a category of fragrance notes I'm still unfamiliar with, but I'll keep my decant and continue testing.

Ladies - what have we been missing? Deception in the form of sickly-sweet, over-laundered scents that smell like rainbows marketers like to disguise as "perfumes." All the while, we drink the champagne until we realize that it's as cheep as a poor-man's beer (or poor woman's).

Yvresse is like capturing a little bit of the golden ray shining down from the heavens. This little golden masterpiece will go on my top shelf list, along with Cuir de Russie. This fragrance is beautiful, timeless, spicy, sweet, mysterious, and unique. What have I been missing? It's Yvresse in my collection!

It's so beautiful, I almost want to tear. Xoxo

The moment I put this on, it reminded me of something. Hmm, maybe I had a grade school teacher who wore this? But it's not remotely old enough for that. Think. Think. Think.
Then it hit me - Gucci Rush! It has the same peach skin, lactonic character but somehow dowdier. A kind of Grandmotherly Rush.
I like it a lot, but I like Rush more.

This is one fragrance I really dislike. It is sickly sweet to me and really unpleasant. The longevity is indeed a factor when others around are wearing it, and it can have a real impact on those of us that are not fans.

There are so many nicer fragrances.

I bought my first bottle of Champagne unsniffed when it came out in 1993, for the bottle to be honest. At that time I got a mini parfum of it too, I think as gwp. I wasn't expecting a lot as I was (and still am) a lover of orientals and it was advertised as fruity floral. The first sniff of the unique sparkling, aldehydic, juicy peach-apricot-spice top notes on my skin was all it took to convince me it was true love. I'd probably pay for a bottle that just gave me a few minutes at a time of that. It's a bonus that the woody, lightly powdery, rosy cinnamon heart is gorgeous and the oakmoss-amber drydown lasts forever. It's elegant; crisp and dry, rich but not heavy. Sillage is good but not too much for strict modern standards. It's very different from the super sweet fruity scents that are popular now, so it's probably not the best blind buy for most millenials. I've kept it in my collection ever since 1993, one of my top ten.
I finally got a purse spray of the Yvresse version recently. It's very similar in scent to Champagne - a little bit less cinnamon and slightly less aldehydic and powdery. The longevity and sillage are both a good chunk less. All in all it's one of the better YSL reformulations I've worn.

Btw, for Eloquaint or anyone else wishing for an even lighter version, there's Yvresse Legere. (legere means light)

I have had this perfume for the most part of my life... I first had the Parfum when it was still calles Champagne and fell instantly in love with it. Ans still lkve it now that's Yveresse even thogh I have the slight impression that Champagne was a bit more stronger and less fruity. But it is wonderful to wear at night.

LadyPilot

Strong, unique, sprarkling, unforgettable, dangerous - not for everybody. Extremely elegant and expressive but not loud. I'd love to be able to wear it one day - now it overwhelms me a bit but still I love it.

ladyfragantica

I find this very similar to jaipur for women. Very strong fragrance.

Fawkey

A colleague used to wear this & I would gag in her office & gag if she walked past. Vile. Just not for me. Heady, sweet & just yuk!

Rizaldo

very boring, I have a headache

Lucky7z

My mom had got me this for my birthday back in 1993 when it 1st came out yrs and yrs ago and omg I was beyond dissapointed when I could no longer find Champagne...I seriously loved this perfume ( I still have my original bottle that is more than 1/2 full lol) but when I found out it was renamed I was soooo beyond happy!! Definitely a fall/winter scent...this one will always be a favorite of mine!!!!

*I even have 2 lil tiny mini bottles in the the original Champagne of this I'm still clinging to as well...surprisingly both minature bottles and my original bottle still smell amazingly good after all these years!!!!!<3

*I never tried the it when it was renamed Yvresse.

rhaineclayton

I had this in my late twenties (so about 15 years ago). I loved it but it just didn't quite mesh with my skin. Last year I saw a bottle at a good price so I got it again. Same problem but I'm going to keep it because I love it. I'll just have to find a way to wear it!
It has that sparkle like you find in perfumes like Dolce Vita (another love).

scents4me

I just found an old, almost full bottle of the original YSL Champagne in a re-sale shop....spritzed on a little and walked around the shop...I was hooked and bought it. It now is about 8 hours later, and it has this wonderful, soft scent on my hand that I can't quit sniffing, even after a few handwashings. I don't need to go into all the details of the breakdown of the Champagne (Yvresse) notes as it's already been done with the others comments, but this is a fabulous scent. I'm hoping to try the newer, modern Yvresse (we have a family-owned drugstore here that specializes in hard-to-find perfumes, they have EVERYTHING)just to compare.

There's nothing like finding these older, original scents. Made my day!

Out of all my perfumes, this is probably the one that I have gotten the most compliments on -

If you are looking for something new and love grand dame type perfumes, this could be for you. This is a beautiful, feminine perfume. So nice. I fall back in love with this every time I wear it.

I have been wearing this scent for years and I love it. I wear the dupe oil from Hayward and it is very long lasting and lovely. It does get compliments and I like it on me, too.

It seems to me that this fragrance is not well known. But it's so lovely that it really does deserve some attention.

It is a very unique fragrance, hard to describe but once you have worn it, you never forget it.

To me, this is a mature scent. There is something very unique about this. Some people have described this as sweet but I do not get a sweet smell on my skin.

Three of my friends loved this so much on me that they wear it, too. It just never gets old to me.

StopHammertime

I'm wearing this today, on this lovely Thanksgiving, because it reminds me of hot apple cider. Lots of fruit and cinnamon! My boyfriend said I smelled like something cooking in the kitchen. No sarcasm, it is my one of my life goals to smell like tasty food :) Lasting power on this is pretty good, around 5 or 6 hours, and it's very potent at first - as it dries down it has less sillage, but I get compliments throughout the day so I'm sure it lasts. One of my top 3 perfumes, so glad I randomly found it here on fragrantica!
EDIT- I am wearing the Champagne version. I will soon be buying a backup bottle of Yvresse because they are less expensive and I heard they smell identical, so will update when I get there!

hippiechick13

Yvresse is one of the loveliest fragrances out there, especially if it suits your chemistry.

On my skin, it's all peach and apricot and fizz. It's gorgeous. It lasts and lasts and is seriously so very beautiful. There's something antique about it. Retro. Glamorous. It makes me feel perfectly feminine and the trail I leave is lush.

I'll always have this in my collection.

GBakly

One of my all time favorites, i am lucky enough that i do have a bottle with the old name on it (champagne)

This perfume is very storng and with a very good sealge and it last on clothes till the next wash!

and it does take you in a trip with each and every note there, so you will get the woody, spicey and after that you will get the powedery, fruity hints

i can't stop sniffing my wrist because the smell dose change! :D

and for sure, i don't use it a lot, as i have a rare bottle and i save it for the important ocasions, i'd say perfect for winter nights

ClaudiaA1

Yvresse really smells to me like delicious champagne. It's a perfume for very special occasions, that lasts for hours on my skin and for days on my clothes. I just love it and adore the bottle

nitsa62

ahhh one of my older favs, Yvresse you beautiful lady))) this one reminds me of a banana liqueur which my parents used to have in our house when I was little, id sneak a sip lol, it smells exactly like it, I love this perfume brings back my childhood

SexyJasmine

Just got my vintage bottle of Yvresse in the mail today (not that new Yvresse Collection stuff. I'm not interested in smelling that). It's so special and so beautiful. This is not an everyday perfume. Only for that special night out with your man. You have on a gorgeous evening gown and your lover can't help but nuzzle your neck from time to time to inhale the lusciousness of this precious elixer. Superb!

Either my memory of Champagne has been skewed and romanticized by my mind over the years or else the sampling company has sent me the wrong fragrance. What I smell in my sample called "Yves Saint Laurent Champagne Original" is more akin to my father's wonderfully astringent aftershave than it is like the aloof peach femme fragrance that I liked to wear in 1997. My sample even more closely resembles the decent but more common Brut cologne than it resembles my memory (or my hallucination, apparently) of what YSL Champagne is.

Could I be remembering a different perfume perhaps? I never had the bottle, just samples from a friend who worked at the perfume counter at Foley's. Maybe my sample is just old, so it is missing the juicy cold top notes I remember? I was certain the recognition of this one would hit me hard when I opened my sample, but it doesn't. I'm a little frustrated and confused. If anybody has any ideas of what perfume I could have mistaken to be Champagne, I'd be very grateful for a PM.

this perfume and Calyx Prescriptives has the unique symbol of immortality. you won't find anyone that dislikes any of them. both gives the feeling of joy and happiness & both shares the factor of love :)

laantjebanaantje

Yvresse is a cheery, celebrating perfume. A perfume fit for the holidays, or any day that wants celebration.
It's rich and deep and happy, but decidedly elegant as well.

A sparkling opening of peaches and nectarines. The likeness to champagne or sparkling Moscato wine (which tastes of ripe summerfruits) is uncanny.
When drying down, Yvresse envelops the wearer in a warm embrace. Caraway and oakmoss, rose and cinnamon and benzoin. Oh yes, there's a good bit of Rochas Femme in here, but where Femme is layed over a dark and sultry base of leather and rosewood, Yvresse is drizzled with golden honey and peach syrup.
Sublime.

Eloquaint

If you look in the dictionary under "cloying," you will find a picture of Yvresse. It will climb into your nose, build a nest there, and refuse to leave, despite your repeated pleas.

Funnily enough, I think this might be lovely if they made a "light" or "innocent" or "mademoiselle" version, which is ordinarily completely against my principles.

reborn

nice suede drydown, but the opening is AWFUL-it smells like some kind of medicine ,or this juice-Tang ,before you put the water in it.I cant imagine to wear it

Lily2911

This iis the most original fruity chypre i ever smelled. Almost a more sparkling, fizzy , sweet niece of Mitsouko. The fantastic apricot, peach gives Yvresse that light sweetness without becoming a boring linear fruiit cocktail you find in recent commercial fragrances. On the contrary, i am more addicted to the real chypre dry down, i love the cinnamon, which counter balances all that sweetness of the opening and in my case the rose and carnation flourish really well on my skin. One other uniqueness is the incredible sillage and tenacity : you only need ONE spray for a whole day and evening. It is the most strongest sillage perfume i have ever encountered, so for the fans, be careful with your dosage otherwise this beauty bevomes a "killing" trail. But no doubt, an intoxicating perfume, one of his kind and not for the faint hearted !

Mirabele

This smells pretty and smells good. My little daughter says it smells like chewing gum, my son, who is older, says it smells like roses; I just smile and disagree with them both. To me it is all about dried fruits with oakmoss in the background, very nice fruity chypre. Not sweet. No matter that I like the smell I can not imagine myself wearing this as a perfume on my own skin. It is too “eatable” smelling to me with fruits as a prominent note, and generally a bit too perfumey. While I can admire the composition and I like it as a smell, as a perfume, it is not for me. It was nice to test it anyway.

mhubbard

Loving all things peach, and most things French and alcoholic, I was sure to love this perfume. Which I did the first hour I wore it. Alas, there is some combination of chpypre-woody-fruit notes here which clashes to my nose. Somehow, it evokes a sense of false gaiety, and there is a sadness underneath the party clothes. It wasn't romantic, nor sexy, nor fresh and clean. I had a large bottle and couldn't make myself wear it anywhere.
Moral of the story: try more than once before you buy.

Mortazuma

When I remember Yves St. Laurent's Champagne...a fragrance cornucopia comes to mind. Although I am not much of a fruit-heavy wearing type of person, I couldn't help but acknowledge the bright, luscious, charismatic and festive mood this scent exuded. It reminded me of well, parties. Parties where the host throws the house out the windows as they say, and the banquet has every single delectable treat imaginable.

Normally, I don't care too much for perfume titles because I find that some, if not most, don't chime true for me. For example, Obsession by Calvin Klein (the only obsession I noticed were people buying it thinking they just purchased Insta-Sexy...sorry, nope) or Thierry Mugler's Angel (scent was far from ethereal imo) were a few that seemed mismatched.
But, the wonderfully talented Sophia Grojsman DID manage to capture the indulgent and jovial mood of celebratory events made even more wonderful with champagne.

And just like champagne itself, it isn't for everyone and should be enjoyed in MODERATION for those who do fancy it...you don't wanna be given a ticket for DUI (Dousing Until Immersed).

It is delightfully complex, bold, hedonistic, quite unique and succulent without being vulgar. Along with Paris, Kouros, and Opium...Champagne is kept in my pleasurable memory bank when I think about the best and most recommended fragrances of Yves Saint Laurent.

crescentsho

I got an old bottle, very strong sweet syrupy fruit smell. It was very loud and long lasting. My mom always complaining how strong the smell, peachy smell. If you like peach/apricot/nectarine, this one is nice.

The worst heavy headache makes me write this: awful.

The only fragrance I can say I love along with Visa by Robert Piguet

katushka37

Today is a New Years Eve so I've decided to give Yvresse a go. I am quite unfamiliar with this scent so I desided to test it out with one spray on my wrist only.

It is definitely reminds me of champagne - sparkly, boozy and sweet. At the beginning I got a lot of fruit, then it settled to a sweet spice and oakmoss scent...and just like champagne it gives me a headspins. I wouldn't buy a full sized version but wouldn't mind having a miniature reserved for very special occasions :)

HeidiLynn

This is a lovely, classy fragrance. The initial blast is a weird alcohol-peach (like the old Oxy face pads, if anyone else remembers that smell), then cheap peach sparkling wine, and then thankfully fades into a delightful peachy-oakmoss. I thought I disliked oakmoss, and indeed this does start out a fairly heavy oakmoss, but the oakmoss soon takes a back seat to the lovely peach, nectarine and apricot. In fact, I think it's the contrast between juicy sweet stone fruit and dry oakmoss that takes this fragrance past any discussion of gourmand or girliness. This is a woman's scent, sophisticated and multifaceted. I was gifted a decant, and am not sure if this is the new formulation (I can only assume that it is); I would love to try the original, because if it surpasses this in complexity and depth I would be blown away!

For the record, this is a different peach than some other Sophia Grojsman peach-centric perfumes; I did not care for the powdery peach in Tresor nor for the similar styled peach in Exclamation--both had a synthetic-ness that was offputting to me. Yvresse is a different, fresher, less powdery and more authentic peach.

Sillage was modest, longevity >5 hours so far.

blackw0lfx

at first i get fruit. it smells fresh and good, then it settles to a vintage vibe. the oakmoss and spice really come through with a little floral backdrop. to me it almost smells like high pigmented designer lipstick. definately pinup quality. i eventually get a warm vanilla, with both a little fruit and spice popping up. it really reminds me of its name. i imagine a pinup wearing this. flirty and outgoing and bold. nice fragrance but a little too 80s for me.

stormyla

Wow, this fragrance is an enigma. The descriptions in the reviews here almost seem to be discussing 2 or 3 different fragrances. I believe that this fragrance was discontinued before all of the IFRA related reformulations, so that does not explain the disparities.

I never smelled a fresh bottle of this scent, so can only describe my experience with my two vintage bottles that are both labeled Champagne. One is a spray EDT,the other is the squat jar shaped dauber bottle pictured above whose concentration is unknown.

This is a truly lovely and unusual fruity chypre. This scent is much sweeter, softer and without the sharpness that I associate with other fruity chypres. The juices in my bottles are not at all fizzy, nor do they evoke anything reminiscent of Champagne unless the name alludes to the elegance and sense of quietly refined class that this scent exudes.

This is a very soft, not loud comfortable fragrance that is quite beguiling. Maybe my bottles have deteriorated somewhat, but the longevity of the fragrance is exceptional, 12+ hours, and the sillage is moderate. This fragrance is very very appealing until after about 7 hours of wear when the musk starts to kick in. I don't know how many of the florals in my bottles have survived, but apparently not enough to balance the musk.

Further along, something stale and waxy developed which I suspected to be coconut, and yes, sure enough there is coconut in this fragrance. I really wish perfumers would not use coconut in fragrances and skin creams as it turns rancid over time and becomes cloying and unpleasant.

If this fragrance was still in production, I would definitely buy a fresh bottle of it. I would not buy any vintage bottles of this scent as in my opinion, the substance is too unstable and not worth the price that it commands. It is such a shame as this was a truly lovely fragrance.

Ah, Yvresse, such an exquisite creation! A beautiful chypre heavy on the FRESH peach, apricot and nectarine that's still classy and full bodied.

According to my nose Yvresse opens with a heavy blast of the aforementioned fruits (did I stress it enough that they smell incredibly natural?) and a touch of mint. Then lots of cinnamon is revealed and the warmth of it makes a fantastic contrast with the mint and the fruits.

During the drydown I can smell lots of oakmoss too. The future of oakmoss in perfumery is uncertain now but it's such a sophisticated element... There are so many other notes listed: litchi, rose caraway, violet, carnation, patchouli, amber, jasmine, benzoin, iris, anise, coconut, vetiver, cedar, vanilla, musk, styrax ans lily of the valley. Although they are not that prominent to my nose they really contribute with their subtle nuances and contrasts, it's a real olfactory symphony. Sophia Grojsman must have been really inspired.

Yvresse does smell unique and sparkling, it's a powerhouse and a total beauty!
Did I just say ''does''? I meant ''did'' and it hurts me to say so. The 2011 formulation ''La Collection'' packaged in the white blocky bottle is just mediocre. The top notes were almost the same and I was hopeful. But after a certain amount of time I only get a far cry from the original. Just imagine Capella Sistina without colors. And I'm deeply sorry for that.

Marieline23

Je le trouve un peu trop fort et vieux. Une micro quantité suffit pour sentir des heures!

Essencial

This is a truly Classic formulation by Sophie Grojsman, that will outlast so many other commercial designer fragrances out on the market today, which are infused and diluted with so much alcohol, and certainly do not last more than 20 min.
This is my signature fragrance and I love it above all others. There is magic in this fragrance that continues to uplift, inspire and envelop the wearer and whoever smells it with fresh romantic notes of harmony and beauty that will not fade through time.
I have studied many fragrances, some of the finest houses in France, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, and this one, thanks to Sophie will endure through time as many of the other recent designer fragrances will simply melt away and be forgotten.
To me, this fragrance is always CHAMPAGNE, even though the silly wine companies in France won that ridiculous lawsuit, Champagne will continue to uplift and inspire. Thank you Sophie. You're a genius!
This fragrance is sophisticated, elegant, harmonious, and timeless.

I still have a mini bottle of this, half full, edp with the original formulations of Y and Rive Gauche (which I also have in full edp vap). These came in a box of 5 edp s by YSL and date aprox. From 1995 onwards. I turned 21 last week and this is a scent that I think I'll never be able to remove from my head. It's warm, so sweet and delicious, it's so inviting, like flamed peaches that almost turned into jam placed above some milky conoction and as you eat this dessert you clear your palate with the softest champagne.sadly this never developed into the chypre notes, perhaps because my bottle is really old. I was recently reunited with Champagne (i didn't know it had changed it's name until last week) because my aunt gave me Lancome's Tresor In Love as a gift, and as I wore it I noticed the peaches bore some resemblance as a fragrance that I learned to interpret as the sultriest when I was barely 5 years old and browsing through my mom's perfume collection. I'm not saying they're alike because they are completely different olfactory experiences, but the peaches brought me back to this frag. Needless to say, I never wore it at that age, neither will I do now, just to test it on my skin
It's like my little secret, I've been doing it since I was a child until I turned 15 and got my own perfumes to play with. My mother barely ever used this since she's into the more aldehydic kind of frag. This is my eternal peachy embrace.

Yvresse, in this bottle (as above pic) is just the same as the original Champagne! The fragrance I wore on my wedding day in 1995 and still beautiful. I was distraught when I sniffed the new YSL La Collection Yvresse in the ugly little square bottle. Like someone said previously, it's just loud and offensive bearing little or no resemblance to this creation. It barks straight out of the bottle ... almost bit me, but I managed to get away :o)

luysza

I bought the 2. 0 oz. 60 ml bottle!

hello, can anyone tell me the code from the back of the bottle I bought one recently and I really want to know if it is authentic, please help me!!!

Yvresse is Beautiful! When my Mother wears this fragrance it wafts through the house and consumes everything in its wake like a loving embrace. Intoxicating, Sophisticated, Luxurious and Glamourous.

alchimia72

I recently received a bottle of vintage Yvresse as a blind swap. It was an heart stroke. Oh Yvresse, where have you been up till now?
A real glass of chapagne, fruity and sparkling. I love peach and apricot notes, and this scent contains sweet notes of these fruits. I fell in love at first sniff. I'm only sad because it's discontinuated.

alchemist1976stephanie

Oh memories! I remember wearing this in my 20's thinking I should keep it til I'm in my 30's and now that I'm in my late 30's I fear I was ahead of my time in my perfume tastes. I blame my moms nose for that;) Too bad I really didn't appreciate the refined essence in this bottle! I too wore the original champagne and always had a tug of war with whether I actually liked it or not. I truly enjoyed its complexity but it was definitely one I wore too soon. The longevity was amazing and it always morphed from the sweet beginning fruity into an earthy, woodsy meld of texture that was just to the left of old ladyish but totally addictive. I miss it dearly.

cumulnimbus

I just couldn't believe it when I found a full vintage first original Champagne version of this awaiting me in a small city old perfume shop. My mother still has some perfume extract in a flatten down bottle. She used to wear this one on special winter nights many years ago, when my nose was starting to notice there were immense unknown territories of excitement there for me to explore them.

This was quite unusual when it was launched so I find myself intrigued by it.

I still find it playful and sweet. One of the few fruity classic scents I admire.

Lubylikes

This is a fragrance that lingers, in memory too. You'll recognise it instantly when crossing paths with a wearer.

Mum gave me her full bottle of Yvresse (Champagne) with the complaint that she could smell only musk stick lollies whenever she wore it. Truthfully, she had tested Yvresse Legere and bought the Champagne through error.

9 April
On me, a fizz of juicy stone fruits tempered by blushing rose and my beloved patchouli a few moments later. The patchouli faded too quickly into a melange of headachy, syrupy sweetness which lasted an hour or two before settling.

It's VERY sweet and clingy, and even though stone fruits are in season, I'm not sure Yvresse and I could withstand a sticky Australian summer together unless I'm all sunkissed skin and windblown hair, floaty white voile and jewelled sandals on a breezy, bright blue day. Ha! Never gonna happen, lol!!

For winter I'm imagining a little black dress, upswept hair and heels and an apricot pashmina to trail behind me. So strong are it's furry fruited notes that I can't imagine wearing it with any colours other than orange or yellow blushed hues. As for jewellery, Yvresse is the only gold you'll need.

10 April
Sitting at my desk 36 hours later, I can clearly smell fruity traces of Yvresse wafting up from the surface of my desk. It's quite pleasant like a tantalising memory of the best champagne you've never had the chance to drink.

lazza

Yvresse is Champagne, Yves Saint Laurent renamed it due to a legal battle after it was launched in 1993. So was renamed Yvresse, not re-formulated. La Collection Yvresse is the re-formulatd perfume.

Am may I say what a huge diassapointment it is, I believe all the classics with certain notes (ie oakmoss for one), are being re-formulated due to oakmoss being an allergen to some people. Hence if you look at a lot of the chypre and some others families of perfume and their new formulations there is a lack of oakmoss or a very small percentage.

What we are left with are perfumes which lack depth, substance, good sillage, and not as long lasting as original formulations. Yvresse(Champagne) was my signature perfume for years, and feel have lost a great love of my life.

i also have the yvresse from la collection, but after trying the original one today, that remake is quite a disappointment. it's very bold, the nectarine/peach speaks loudly for itself/themselves.

nothing beats the real champagne. yes, it speaks too, but quitely and sophisticatedly. it's like there's no need to yell to let people to take notice of you (if you know what i mean lol) but instead, it's otherwise, and naturally. the drydown is pleasant and i can feel the little bubbles sizzling on my tongue everytime i take a sniff. oh my goodness, 'girls just wanna have fun' is playing inside my head now...

antfarm

Oh no. This begins smelling of peach-apricot baby food that has just been spit up. Then it becomes a close smell-alike of Rochas Femme, only spicier, less elegant, and disturbingly cacophonous.

My mom loves this fragrance. I think this one fits mature women very much.

AnnetteInFrance

Having now tested the original Yvresse (EDT) and the new collection version my thoughts are the following:
The 'collection' version is more brash and crude. I prefer the subtlety, femininity and delicatesse of the original. You definitely pick up the missing notes in the original too which makes it an altogether more creamy, soft and sensual fragrance.
I find the collection version slightly disappointing. One has all the class of Monica Bellucci and the other is Megan Fox.

What can I say about this scent... It is so beautiful and most of all unique... It opens with an intoxicating accord of true champagne blended with tangy nectarine and just a splash of sweeter peach. I can detect a prominent yeasted bread or brioche accord (actual champagne is also supposed to have a toasted brioche note too). It's mellow, dry, slightly woody and expensive at the same time, without any notes screaming their presence. It doesn't strike me as chypre at all, in fact I'm not sure how I would categorize it notes-wise. Nevertheless I can see 'Champagne' being appropriate for numerous occasions and cannot imagine people being offended by its presence. Let alone its -former- name, imagine being asked what are you wearing, and replying 'it's Champagne'! To my nose, a masterpiece

Yvresse is a sparkling beauty, unexpectedly gorgeous. I had only read that Yvresse reminded one of champagne, which I adore. So I had to try this fragrance when I saw it for sale at a very appealing price.

From the first notes it was beautiful, sparkling, light, lustrous, floral but roundly fruity like a good champagne, with apricot and peach notes like my favorite wine, riesling. For me this is the perfume equivalent of Cremant d'Alsace, which is a lovely sparkling wine made a la methode Champagneoise from the Riesling grape. The spice and fougere elements come in gloriously in the middle notes giving this scent a lovely balance and depth. These elements keep it from being just a sweet Sauterne like mess without the acidic balance of a good champagne.

The drydown brings out the woods, amber, benzoin and just enough musk to make this the perfect night time, evening out perfume. It is intriguing and very quietly sexy but not overpowering. This will be my go to dinner evening out perfume forever, I think.

velvetulipe

Very chic ! Beautifull sent for an evening out. I keep it for those special occasions... just like a glass of champagne would be.

kelly.locke.79

Lovely and warm, intense and smells unique. Has always been a favorite and always smells as good as it did when I first tried it. Scents lasts for hours and really makes you feel great.

mhubbard

Not bad, really does evoke a certain effervescent alcoholic beverage,a fruity but somehow dry flavor. That being said, I can't think of quite when to wear this.... certainly not to work, not at all for romance, perhaps in Spring to a party...although I don't dislike this, I'm still waiting for the occasion to wear it some many years later with an almost full bottle.

Emmanouil

What to say about this perfume?? Reminds me my childhood...it was my present for my mother's birthday before almost 20 years and ofcourse, I am speaking for the "Champagne" before change the name. Until now, still remains my mother's favourite parfume even if the bottle has change and also the name. Classic, elegant, wonderous with great durability!!!

sally.west1

Still have a little of my original bottle of "Champagne" which is a much better name than Yvresse which means nothing to me! This scent is so original and specific that I was unsure of whether I actually liked it or not when I received the bottle as a gift a few years back. It smells like no other perfume, individual, sparkling and strong - lasts all day with one application. It is like a fruity champagne cocktail and after re-discovering it, I love it!

Kysyona

I am affluent ( since you need to be if you have the yvresse addiction! ), sophisticated, immaculately-mannered and with a library in my head. This is how Yvresse speaks to me and commands to behave accordingly! This is THE upperclass lady scent, and it smells absolutely ridiculous on those who can't at least play the role! Cold season/evening substance, rather grownup ( would think twice before if I were in my 20s! ) and very content with life and itself: full-bodied, plum, sparkling currant or rose wine. It is everyday glamour of intelligence. Dimmed lights in an old library occupying a grand historic building, suede emerald ( I detect a little chypre in there ) and wine-coloured fabrics, curtains with tassels, old books sitting in neighbourhood of a cognac-filled glass and creme de la creme moving around slowly while discussing the burning political and social issues. When I wear it it makes me work for it, listen, read, learn, keep my back straight and never dine without a napkin and proper dinnerware. A very old beauty of a rapidly vanishing lifestyle: so grateful it has been at least preserved in a bottle! Apropos, the flakon of the ETD/ EDP is everything the scent is not ( the pure perfume bottle looks more sophisticated because of the golden "wiring" effect at the sides ): as far as you can get away from sophistication, a child's toy shape and hardly memorable, would not be bringing any grace to one's vanity table. The only thing that holds me back from keeping it inside a wall cabinet is the contents: I would never want it to be too far away from my reach. I sniff it at least one a day ( from the bottle cap) even when I am wearing other perfumes. It reminds me what I can be and what kind of woman I aspired to become when I was a little girl.

Eridanshay1

This perfume is completely off the charts, one of a kind unique & awesome. I wore this back in 1993 or 1994 (I may have already reviewed it here?) but tonight, it smells legendary. I scored a bottle off of an auction site and it showed up in a manila bubble padded parcel today. I was almost shaking when I opened it! This perfume holds scent memories for me. It reminds me of my infant daughter (who is now 21), bad days of a marriage that was mended and healed (we have now celebrated 23 years and were not sure we would make it beyond 4 years) and celebrations, birthday's, romantic date nights and special occasions (because that is all I could afford to wear it for, so saved every drop)back in the 1990's along with long black commercially crocheted sweater vests, Ricky Lake hosting talk television, thick black chunky loafers for women and premiere episodes of "Friend's". I am thankful to have "a nose" that leads me by the hand back in time, and more importantly, thankful that I am alive and can do that! "Champagne" or whatever it is called now will always be magical. My son, who is now 15.5 swears he can remember this scent from his infancy! Viva la Champagne! ;)

EDIT: I did, in fact review this scent earlier...to read more, please scroll down these reviews about 1/8 of the way down. Thanks! :)

Janey1966

Oh my, this one takes me back a bit! Don't you just LOVE that bottle? Such a shame it has been discontinued but I do remember having to use this sparingly, otherwise I'd get a corker of a headache.

Great scent though if you like them strong!

Alexandre

yes that makes you want to eat the smell of ripe peaches, or drink all "champagne"... Honestly, I can only feel the fruity notes ... For me it is already so great ... Similar to Le Roy Soleil by Salvador Dali. The price is killing ...

Zenobia274

Luscious, juicy, sparkling and effervescent just like it's name of old 'Champagne'. A beautiful melange of nectarine, oakmoss, patchouli, aniseed & lychee. Lush and fresh for chic luncheons, cocktail parties, galleries and informal dinners.

PLUMPIE

A sparkling late harvesst muscat dessert wine layered with seductive musk, sweet but dry fruit and vintage face powder and lipstick. The anise and mint do come through in this one too and the nectarine gives it a tart crispness. It does have a touch of the Original Valentino in here. This is a weird one but it is incredibly beautiful and I just adore it on others but on me it becomes an overwhelming wave of super tartness and headachey sweetness with a strange minty menthol note which just wont die down until hours later - I end up having to wait a whole day of feeling uncomfortable wearing this for the last hour or so of soft muskiness right before it disappears. Smells nice on my clothes but not on my skin. Lovely but just not 'my' perfume.

jedrzejowskia

Oh how I've fallen in love with Fragrantica!
I just remembered on of my first "grown up" perfumes.

I got it as a gift from my mother one Christmas. Oh, how I loved spraying this on, it being still called Champagne.
I think it set the tone for the rest of my life expectations, at the moment more on a beer budget than Champagne however haha.

Being no more than 16 I think at that time it was EXTREMELY heavy and I had to use a light hand with it as not to upset anyone in class or the teachers.
I just remember how fuzzy and happy and sweet it made me feel every time I smelled it.
I wonder would it still smell the same and invoke the same feelings? Curious now.... one for the wish list.

PhaedraRose

I still have the same bottle of this I bought when it first came out and was called Champagne! You only need a couple of drops on pulse points and it lasts for hours-when the lawsuits were filed regarding the name, I stopped using it everyday so I could keep hold of it for as long as possible. I always referred to it as the lycee perfume, because to me it smells of sparkling fizzy juicy exotic fruits. I'm going to go and check it now and make sure it's still ok,because I forgot I still had it until joining this site !

LaPetite

I can't believe on how much i love this , i was sent a sample by plumblosom . (thank you!!!!)
I usually have a love/hate relationships with chyprés , and this one is definitely a love one !
Iamo , it makes my think a lot of Voulpté ( Oscar de la Renta) and in some way Sun Moon Stars ( Lagerfeld) , and guess what , it's the same nose , the great Sophia Grojsman !
But it's even better than Voulpté, ( which i really like ; ) Yvresse is more complex, last longer , less green and sweeter, fruitier .
Yvresse makes me think of anything but party , champagne ... To me it's much more a solar, warm, loving , reassuring , confident making perfume . Like a mom ( yet mine has never worn it , but had had Volupté however).
Bravo !

lisadev

I LOVE this perfume! I have worn it since it was Champagne and still wear it to this day.

I have tried others but still go back to Yvresse... nothing compares to it in my opinion.

Unfortunately it is now discontinued and I can only buy online (although they have brought out a new version, which I hear is nothing like the original).

Soap

Definitely a boozy citrus scent, with honey and spice. Tangy, effervescent, contained. Excellent for nights out.

Reminiscent of when you've finished that second flute of bubbly and the party is just gettin' started! Celebratory, intense and stately.

Not a wild and out of control kind of buzz, but a good one. Love it.

Annelien1987

Extremely sweet. I smell peach and heavy loud cinnamon. This is a cinnamon bomb. Great lasting power and high sillage. Be careful when spraying, don't overdo it.

It has been discontinued in my country. I bought a large bottle online and i'm glad I did. Finally this sparkely champagne (yvresse) in my collection <3

annahaener

I have the collecton version and love it. I tried it before I tried the original one. couple of days ago i tried this version and was disappointed... the new one is sooo much better for my taste:)

kxnaiades

you know how people describe getting champagne bubbles in the nose? this is how i felt after trying this version of yvresse. Let me say before we go too far, this is a different perfume from La Collection Yvresse (which to me is also a lovely scent). The first part is very brilliant and sparkly and hits you in the head like champagne would. There's the tint of peaches and nectarines in the first part. Then it warms down and the vanilla, cedar, amber, carnations and oakmoss come in. Give it a few minutes to develop after applying, this is a beauty not to be missed.
I have to add after wearing it a few more times that this beauty has fantastic longevity! It's firmly number one when I want a bubbly scent and after trying other perfumes with champagne notes or "fizzy" scents, this is still the best I have come across so far. Am very happy I got a big bottle since it's discontinued and I hope they will bring it back.

LaUna

Rich fruity floral; sweet and tarty. White flowers, sugary peach, cinnamon and spice. I find oakmoss and carnation combo heavy in here. It strengthens with drydown, somewhat cloying and mature. It lasted longer that I wanted it to, half a day.

vanillabean23

Oh my! I'm going to have to eat my words (see my earlier review re: Yvresse). Out of sheer curiosity, I decided to sample this fragrance on a card at the chemist - just to reaffirm my previous view of this scent. I was SO WRONG. I first smelled this perfume about 20 years ago when it was called "Champagne". I couldn't stand it. It was so overwhelming dry and headache inducing, I thought - NEVER ever will I wear this hidious scent! Well, yesterday I fell in love with it. It smells different than 20 years ago. It's sweeter and the rose scent is far more prevalent. I'm convinced the formula is different - for the better!! I'm going to buy myself a bottle. I can't believe my 180 on this one! Perhaps it's because I'm older and have a more mature take on this fragrance. I'm so glad I tried it again.

leorine

very intensive and sexy but too much for casual

melanie

I had Yvresse while it was still known as Champagne. Quite expressive, rich, long lasting, though I'm not a big fan of this group. Nectarine, cinnamon, coconut and amber are notes that I felt the strongest, had a warm dry-down with patchouly and styrax, these are the notes which I remember most clearly. So typical of 90s, somewhere between the mythical past and present, Champagne sounds better. I like it though, I can not compare it with anything I have recently tried.

When this came out we lived in Montana. I had to BEG my mom to drive me to a mall that carried it that was two and a half hours away, and since it was icy and November the drive time was plus two more hours. She took me. I got my bottle of CHAMPAGNE with my fifty some dollars that took me weeks to save up. It was everything I dreamed of and more. The perfume was like a Brut Champagne. It is not overly sweet or "sugary" like a $5.00 bottle of pink stuff. This absolutely had an effervescent smell...how that is possible is Magical to me, but it did/does. The longer this stayed on my skin the warmer it became. I wore this for years and am so sad I did not save my original bottle with the word Champagne on it. :( It became my signature of the 90's for awhile and I want to revisit it again. If anyone has a sample of this to spare I would be willing to pay for it. :) Love to my Fragrantica Family! xo

Troodos

I wore this, when it was called champagne, at my wedding in the mid nineties. It fitted the occasion I think, a casual outdoor picnic with a punch and judy show, a man making balloon animals for the children and lots of friends good food and wine. Champagne the fragrance felt sunny, fun and happy, a bright and fizzy positive scent. I keep the bottle for old times sake but don't wear it. It has good silage in the 80s tradition, for all that is good and bad about that, but worth a try.

eruetim

Yvresse, Yvresse yes yes yes!

I remember Champagne, of course,

This is my signature fragrance.

Updating my previous review:

The more I wear the more I love this wonderful powdery fruity perfume. Gosh, it is SO classy and comfortable. This is a complex fragrance, seductive, attractive, powdery and fruity scent with a hint of vanilla. Wonderful !! Mmmmmmm.. I love it so much!!

Considering it was made in 1993, this is timeless fragrance....it's obvious that regardless the recent fashion, people don't change so much through the time, so .. when something smells good, it simply smells good, doesn't matter where or when.

I think no one could regret having Yvress in the collection. Sooner or later you will discover it's beauty!

CastoR&Pollux

lovely people -

who could give a comment on a comparison of 100% love and yvresse - more talking about the heart and fonds

Yvresse is a vibrant, sparkly fruity chypre on my skin. A very unique and interesting scent. When first sprayed on, a juicy golden ripe aroma of peaches and apricots is very noticeable. Minutes later the most delicious aroma of anise and mint appears mingled with a hint of cinnamon. Litchi then makes an appearance and stays till the end mixed in with woods, patchouli, vetiver and oakmoss . It is quite potent and more suitable for evening wear. Lasts for hours on the end.The bottle looks like a champagne cork.

(This review is for modern Yvresse version)

Yvresse is a unique and interesting fragrance but it took me some time to understand it. I was expecting, based on the former name of Champagne and reviews, a fun and festive scent all the way. But Yvresse is actually not like that. In the beginning it is a happy and bubbly scent that does remind me a lot of fuzzy champagne and fun times but after the bright opening, the scent actually changes. It becomes almost melancholy. It is like I am left alone in an empty house after a wild New Year Party still wearing a cocktail dress but knowing that the party is over and a new day is slowly breaking on the horizon. It reminds me of “Happy New Year” song by ABBA that captures the beautiful and melancholy mood post New Year celebration. If you ever heard this wonderful song, you would know what I am referring to.

I do not have much experience with Chypre fragrances but based on my limited experience I do think that it is a nice fruity Chypre. The opening is a sparkly fruit cocktail with nectarine, peach and apricot. I love those three, so this short lived fruit explosion is an absolute delight for me. The scent slowly transforms into a soulful, pretty and gentle bouquet of flowers. It is complex with predominant rose at first and then strong and powdery violets. There is a mossy and damp note that lingers in the background. I think that is what makes this bouquet smells melancholy to me. The base notes are also beautiful and on my skin I get the woody vetiver, oakmoss and only slight sweetness from benzoin and vanilla. The sillage and longevity are above average.

Overall score is 7.5/10. I am glad that I gave this fragrance a chance. It is lovely but I do not think that it is for everyone. If you decide to try this beautiful fragrance, please spend time with it and perhaps it will decide to reveal to you its gentle, joyful and at the same time melancholy soul.

To me this perfume smells intensively like peach/nectarine/apricot marmelade. It's extremely longlasting and can be headache inducing if not applied with a very light hand. Its dry down is divine!
Yes, it's a retro perfume to me.
My daughter says it smells like an aromatic candle. I don't know where she gets this from.

mimi.smell

I've got it today. This is very UNIC perfume! Opens very specific deeeeep sweet fruty , maybe even "strange" For now I'm not shure I love it or hate it. Is really unusual! Actually I couldn't say exactlly what I smell in its opening. What is this: peach and coconut together, or what - it's strange.

But !!! The dry down is definitely fantastic.
I'll keep trying tomorrow.

And it's the same feeling like when I bougt the Swiss Arabian ALIA - opening was very strange deep sweet and bitter at the same time, than the dry down -fantastic. At first I was not shure about it but today I looooooovee it so much!

candymarie

Thank you to Sherapop for putting a name to what I smell in this one but could not put my finger on: damp sisal rug and straw basket. In other words, VERY CHYPRE!

Based on the reviews and the votes for main notes, I was expecting a strong peach and cinnamon mix slightly tempered by chypre notes, but it's actually the other way around; for me the fruit and cinnamon are barely there, if at all, at any point in the opening or the drydown.

I would call this interesting and edgy, and back in my green floral youth, I might've embraced it. But these days I'm like a drug addict whose synapses have been forever modified by their drug of choice, mine being sweet and spicy orientals. Yvresse is just not sweet enough for me, I'm afraid.

Edit: I tried this again a few days later and found it to be much sweeter this time. I think maybe the first few sprays were different because the juice had been sitting in the sprayer for a while. It's still very chypre at the base, but I now understand others' reviews about sweetness.

Mellyhelly

Yvresse is not easy to find nowadays, but I don't mind since it's not an absolute favourite of mine. I don't love it, but I like it!
It was popular many years ago, both as Champagne and later as Yvresse, slightly different.
Recently I smelled it on a co-worker who didn't know about the meaning of Yvresse in French (written with I) and was a little surprised about the name and immediately recognised it! It's unmistakable!
Many memories came back to my mind.
Yvresse is a frizzy, sweet, peachy, playful and flirtatious scent!
Forget about the flat plastic cake typical sweet&peachy of the 2K. Yvresse is sweet&peach from the '90s! Much more layered and less heavy in its final effect. In some ways it stays high-vibe till the end. Longlasting, not common these days, do not overspray. Great value for your result!

Demoiselle

At LAST! I have wanted this perfume for ages but found it too expensive to buy in Dublin (I am a poor university student cursed with an expensive taste in perfumes). I stumbled across it yesterday - one last dusty bottle on the shelf of a pharmacy that claimed they didn't sell it- at exactly a third of the regular retail price. The joy of getting to finally move it from the 'I want' list to the 'I have' list!

It is undeniably gorgeous. Within the first five minutes you get a strong burst of the Nectarine and Apricot and then the lovely Cinnamon sets in. This delicious scent continues for about an hour - the cinnamon keeping the fruit in a mature and classy state and the fruit stopping the cinnamon becoming too heavy and stuffy. Then I get a really crisp, almost bitter fruity scent that lingers for an entire day (some people will not like that phase, bu I love it - its so distinctive). It really does smell like Champagne but in ways that are hard to describe; its fruity but dry, light but strong. Instead of winter I'm going to try wearing this on a summer night - it just brings that kind of elegant fete to mind.

chef

love it love it
bought in macy's in the nineties almost 100.00 well worth it still have my bottle yeah!
makes me feel bubbly :)

Norgirl

This is a mature and sophisticated scent for shure . Very peachy, dry fruit, and cinnamon. . i did feel a quite strong hit off caraway mixing at first , blending in whit the peach , then it settles a bit after a wild , not very much imo. but a slight change on my skin , More violets and rose gets in , Still sparkely and vibrent. then it changes again and i feal like a cinnamon cake. This is so so strong , i usualy like that but whit all the cinnamon, i feel abit overpowerd.
This is very mature , ( a bit old school )The coconut also lingers in there and this to me in this mix makes me a bit sick..
i so wanted to love this , but this is to strong for me i think.

But i can clearly see how this can be beautiful one somebody else . i guess its just skin cemestry again.
Because it is realy a special and georges scent.. just to much for me ..

etmpewo

I have the old formula as well: Champagne.

To me it smells faintly sweet fruity. It also smells powdery and a little hint of soap.

The longer it dries down, the more I start to like it.
And it lasts for ever.

I'm glad I bought it.

krmarich

Controversy can either hurt or help a fragrance. I did neither for Yvress. If you have the original bottle its highly collectible. It is totally the early 90s trademark that seemed to be everywhere. It was the first YSL since Paris and was really popular.

The composition itself pays tribute to the classic chypres of the past-Cotys original, Mitsouko and Y. Unlike the dry, elegant queens of the past, Yvress is sweet and wet. Yes, the chypre base is there, yet the peach rose mish mash nearly creates a new class. Instead it was another Sophia Grojsman fruity sensation. Its boozy, like a sweet desert wine. Indeed, its not dry champagne. Oh, the hangover I have from it!

The current formula has the oakmoss turned way down. Its not a chypre at all, today.

Doc Elly

Instead of champagne, what I smell at first is a floral note like sharp linden and mimosa, a good bit of violet, and some spices, mainly cloves and cinnamon. At first the peach aldehyde seems overdosed, producing what to me is a sour off-note in an otherwise lovely composition, and producing a sillage that’s full of slightly rancid dried peaches and apricots, not fresh ones.

To me, this is a peach-pie gourmand scent, at least for the first couple of hours, after which the chypre notes creep in, producing a beautiful fruity-spicy-mossy scent that reminds me a little of Rochas Femme. This phase lasts for a few hours, and as it dries down further it seems to me to become more oriental-gourmand in character, with spices, woods, resins, and fruit. There’s a good bit of sillage, and the scent really lasts - over 12 hours on skin. Were it not for the excessive dried apricot note, I think this could have been a “love it” fragrance.

Lettukestit

I remember I loved this when I was 19 (and it was still called Champagne). I've had very fond memories of it over the years (plenty have gone by) but i've not had a sniff again until today.

I was quite disappointed at first, this seemed overly strong and heavy and not at all as bubbly as I remembered. But after the initial smell I can now recognize the notes that made me love this perfume. Unofrtunately, I think I've grown out of it, onto fresher and lighter scents.

rose_selavie

My lovely Yvresse...With your lively, provocative and bold character, you give me joy every time I wear you, a kind of "dolce vita" feeling. In my opinion, you are one of the best peachy-fruity combinations in perfume history.
I get a Christmas potpourri note in the drydown, as well a delightful sweet cocos trace that makes it even more gourmand with hours gone by. All notes together are creating a sparkling Veuve Clicquot impression, you can almost feel the bubbles of champagne on your tongue. A memorable smell.

ION

mmm....this perfume smells like champagne!
To be honest I only smelled this once, in a public bus in Rome, many many years ago. Back then it was called, "Champagne"!
I have no idea how much different it is today under the
name "Yvresse" (this whole debate about the name was pure nonsense in my opinion), but I remember it was a very clever perfume (this apricot-nectarine interference is to be admired) that added elegance and a good taste quality to the individual who wore it.
Nothing more to say really, for me "Champagne" tastes and smells like a vibrant applaud of admiration to the nose behind it.

Waltzing Matilda

I can't say I'm a fan of this one. My friend wears Yvresse, and I have to say I find it too fizzy and acidic. She loves it and can't get enough, but a male friend of hers told me that although he's very fond of her, he can't stand her perfume and that it gives him a violent headache. Her personality is bubbly and bright, and so I guess it suits her.

takeasniff

The people who say this dries to crayons I agree. It smells like makeup to me like a good lipstick or how lipsticks used to smell I haven't noticed a strong smell on any new lipsticks these days. The same happens with First Love by Van Cleef Arpels. They dry to a smell of a makeup case. Similar smell to Kenzo Flower. A lot of people say that smells like baby products but I just smell makeup face powder lipstick and blush. Must just be my strange nose maybe nobody else would agree I am not sure. When a lady is wearing these perfumes near me it reminds me of my Nan. She is very pretty and when I was little she would kiss me on the cheek and I could always smell her makeup but in a feminine way not disturbing way. I love this smell and it is quite unusual it is a type of perfume I really like and will look for nowdays.
I also have this experience with Chanel No.5 which I also love.

jtd

More like Sauternes than Champagne, but I don’t want to start another trademark issue for this fragrance. Yes, this has similarities to wine, but it seems much more like a sweet dessert wine than anything else. And, yes, there is a chypre base to Yvresse, but overall the fragrance is much more about fruitiness and sweet florals. A well-made sweet wine is one where all the fruit/honey/sweetness is balanced by a proper degree of acidity, though the acidity is a small element when compared to the sugar. The point is largely lost on me with dessert wines and I guess here as well.

I get all the other comparisons---Chinatown but without the full dose of the chypre base; Femme, but with less cumin and more honey. But the real point of comparison to me is another Grosman work, Prescriptives Calyx. Calyx has all the fruit, all the rose, but a bit less sugar and more moss. Granted, a different flavor (guava v peach) makes for a qualitative difference, but compositionally, there’s much to compare. Calyx’s success is taking the fruitiest of fruit scents, one that you can almost taste (ripe guava) and balancing it with enough moss and dry rose to compensate for the sweetness, leaving a heady aroma with a spectacularly balanced drydown. Yvresse uses sweeter fruit, adds honey-like amber, uses a sweeter rose, and less moss. Yvresse does lose some of the sweetness as it ages, but what is left without the sweetness? It gets threadbare.

I applaud YSL for making a sensible-shoes version of the 1990s fruity floral, but I’m picky about my fruity chypres, and this one I don’t quite love. Seen as a fruity floral, and compared to the raft of sticky sweetness that was selling like mad at the time, it is a smart choice. But as a fruity chypre, it can’t hold its own against Diorella, Cristalle, Chinatown or its YSL sibling, Y. I can see why fruity chypres might have been seen as fertile ground to create more ‘accessible ‘ (read: better selling) fruity-florals at the time, but it’s the balance that’s lost. Remember: this was the year Cristalle EDP was released. Cristalle, but sweeter, less sharp and nicer. God god, who wants that?

GinsTheThing

Such a yummy fragrance - love the peachiness. I have 'Champagne' but the dry down ends up with a crayon tinge. Not horrible but there all the same at the end I can't pin this down - what note could end up like this ?

raych

My all time favorite smell since 16 lol I've almost doubled in age now... can't find champagne these days unless it's online the lady at the shop told me they changed the name to yvrese??? wierd... Anyhow I shall persevere... I love that it stays for a long time even after I've showered there's still a hint left!!!

GIRLS! i am on cloud nr9!
Recently i have purchased a bottle of pure parfum "Champagne" in 50ml size (it is a tester spray bottle) and now it will last me for apporx. 50 years i think :)) Now i spare my 7,5 ml parfum bottle for my dressing table and can use this one instead.
This is a powerful stuff! I also have botlle of 50ml EDT "Champagne" and i can say that while they smell both strong and powerful, the EDT is more watery, like a peach champagne indeed, but the pure parfum is more creamy and intense of course. Like a fizzy peach juice with flesh of peaches. A bit heavier but i looove it. Lasting power is simply amazing, it lasts and lasts and lasts. Once again i repeat that this is quite in the same direction as "Tresor", but without that heavy rose note!
P.S. I have never tried "Yvresse" version so my review is for "Champagne" version only.

airubgirl

This was my first "real" perfume purchase when I was in my early 20's. It was my signature and the only scent that I wore. It still holds a special place in my heart and fragrance wardrobe. For me this scent is a little black dress and high heels, but on the flip of that, I can and have worn it with jeans and a tank top. With it's bright sparkling top notes, warm cozy dry down and the luscious floral heart, it is a dichotomy of playfulness and sophistication. I still have a bottle of the original, when it was called "Champagne", and it just gets better with age as a great perfume should do. The sillage is just right, haloing around the wearer and the lasting power is amazing. While I don't wear it any longer, I still hold onto that bottle and give it a sniff on occasion and smile at all the memories it holds.
