Stunningly beautiful amber fragrance that started my amber love in earnest. I really do believe this is one of the finest perfumes ever made. Even though I haven't had the fragrance for years, it is the exquisitely mouth watering vanilla that I remember.
Haven't they discontinued this masterpiece? Why!!?

Sharquelle

Beautiful classic amber perfume that lasts forever, purchased it 15 years ago for my vacation to NYC and even today instantly brings me back to the Big Apple everytime I wear it; precious!

I didn't like this fragrance before, finding it to be like a strong man's cologne. But later something happened and I became obsessed with it. I've got minis and every time I pour this fragrance on my bed sheet, some drops end up on the bottle and I rub my fingers in it. I love smelling them afterwards and I love smelling the scent while in bed. It's so balsamic. And what I like most - the scent stays for days and doesn't turn nasty. One day I sprayed my hoodie with Oscar Rose and added beside just a little bit of Voile D'Ambre. The result - an amazing scent of a very mysterious rose. LOVE IT!

Totally okey amber, nothing more, nothing less, found a second hand bottle of this almost for free.

bel.gravia

Rich spicy and balsamic amber! Oh how I love opoponax! Reminds me of Prada L eau Ambree.... that long lost and discontinued love of mine. This is my currently favourite amber scent - not that I own many though. I love how straightforward Voile D'Ambre is... not drowned in vanilla.

*loves_shoes*

This is really lovely, definitely feminine, a warm, spicy, resinous amber, with a powdery finish, lovely. Doesn’t smell dated or vintage at all, could pass for (and smells better than) many modern niche fragrances.

MrGrosvenor

I found a 98% full 50 ml bottle of this at a thrift store for only 1 euro 50 cents a few days ago I had no idea what it was but quickly gave it a whiff and was surprised how many masculine tones it had in fact I wasn´t sure if it was a woman or mens fragrance before Google it up. The drydown does get more feminine vibes and a bit powdery but in a mysterious and sensual way Im gonna try this out to see if its a new favorite vintage scent for me.

I would love to find even a small bottle of this for my wife who absolutely loves this. admit it does smell wonderful on her. Such an amber centric focused fragrance with so many other notes perfectly blended into it! The resins and vanilla give it incredible depth. 10 out of 10 for me. So sorry it was discontinued. Performs and is appreciated best in cooler weather.

theuntrainednose

I have a sample.

Wow! very good. Delicious, warm, resinous, incense-y, mixed with sweet citrus. Reminds me of Opium if you remove the spices and add way more resins. Very good.

I love it
I love it
I love it

The fact that the price is doubled in the only official distributor selling it in my country and despite that I still have it in my cart speaks volume

How should I describe it, I love amber, like head over heel, but this is not just ambery fragrance.
I don't know, just my love for it messed up my description maybe. But, it is herby spicy, syrupy, 'oomph', uplifting just the correct dose of sweetnes.

I usually write a good top middle base notes. Except for some linear frags.

But for this.. I just can't.. this is just the correct syrupy with a perfect drip of spices, and stuffed with the correct measured herb..
Not overwhelming, I wanna say light but it is not as it is sweet

But, this is just the correct syrupy even capable on lifting my mood on such a very hot humid day

I'm sorry I'm very biased with this one..
As much as I can be very biased in Neroli Secret d'essences one

Wowsers! Cardamom-infused mandarin in a heady swirl of opulence which is wholly satisfying.
It's a glorious, full-bodied Oriental without a hint of florals; resin-rich, ambery and addictive.
Why this bottle of golden elixir has been discontinued is baffling. What are Yves Rocher thinking?
This is the kind of perfume I think of when I want opulence without anything cloying or overblown. It's perfectly balanced, amber-rich, woody, resinous and plush throughout the day.
One spray on my arm creates a cloud of luxury shimmering around me like an aura all day long.
I only have about 30ml of this and will be hunting for more.

Distillation:

plush oriental
dreamy amber opulence
pure satisfaction

Mmm. Pretty. I received my sample today n I love Amber, it's my favorite note. I'm starting to think all Amber's are very much the same though. I have Ambre Passion by Laura Mercier and Ambre 114 by Histoires and Molinard Amber in the purple bottle. It's very possible that my nose isn't trained enough to pick up the differences but I feel like these 3 scent smell pretty much the same with 114 holding out the longest as far as longevity/sillage goes. I'd love some insight if someone with a better trained nose could provide it. Does anyone else feel the same? Is there an Amber I should try? EDIT: Ok, so this one is actually turning out a little different than the other Ambers. I smell a fruity and almost herbal scent blended in with a LOT of vanilla and powder. I really love this n wish it wasn't so expensive.

nieninque

When you put on Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Grand soir and spend the entire soirée (if you will) trying to figure out what it reminds you of, before realizing it is this with a lot of extra vanilla, you know Yves Rocher don't know what is good for them.

SailorV

Many ambers are really warm and heavy, which can be wonderful if you're in the mood for that. Voile d'Ambre is an amber for the days you are not. Of course it's a warm and resinous scent (do cold ambers even exist?), but it's so dry and yet transparent that it could easily be worn year round to almost any occasion. No hint of the thick and balmy texture that many other ambers have. There is a hint of vanillic sweetness in this, but it's not really a sweet scent. Some herbal and spicy notes balance it out without overwhelming the delicate composition. In the opening I clearly get the mandarin that makes this scent even more airy. All in all I find it cozy without ever becoming smothering.

It's really a shame that Yves Rocher discontinued this unique fragrance. Get it while it's still affordable on ebay and other third party sites. I'm very glad I got my free bottle from YR in time.

alicemorrigan

This is usually not the type of fragrance that I'd wear, but I was looking for an amber perfume (I have good memories of L'ambre des Merveilles and I stumbled upon this, so with it going to be discontinued and on 50% off, I bought a bottle.

It opens very strongly sweet, and that persistent opening that I honestly dislike stayed on me for two and half hour. After that, it evolves to a more approachable scent, amber-incense-vanilla. I got the chance to compare it directly to Shalimar, at it does smell very similar! However, Shalimar has more sophisticated, elegant woman in a party feel of it, while Voile d'Ambre has the kind-hearted young mother with the warmest hug. Stays around for eight hours on me before politely fades away, sticking close to skin but getting whiffs of it as I move.

Overall, a warm and cozy fragrance that's great for everyday, especially colder days!

DomfromBE

Hurry up. You can buy it on line with a very good outlet price from YR belgian and french site. Two back ups on their way home.
The new collection is nothing to me.

@ BettinaFox Do give a try to Chanel's Coco EDT. It's close to Voile d'Ambre but the higher price range. Ambraliquida from L'Erbolario is nice too. Or Opoponax by Les Néréides too!

BettinaFox

Thank you YR for discontinueing this fragnance, now most of my favourites are discontinued...

The perfume itself starts with a strong and harsh diluent smell... Then dries down to a sensual, ambery, spicy, woody, incence scent. I have to wait 15-20 minutes after applying. :) It becomes warm, deep, rich and sexy.

Not the most unique perfume in the perfume history, but definately good for everyday use whith enough spicyness and no harshness (except for the fist hour mentiond above) Does contain notes I love and doesn't contain notes I dislike.

Sandalwood, amber, incense and patchouli are definately the most dominant, in a very balanced and pleasant blend with a hint of vanilla in the background.

Can anyone recommend a similar scent BTW?? :)

DomfromBE

Hurry up! The entire Secret d'Essences line is about to be discontinued due to the release of two new perfume lines.

Rose du soir

@Seducianne I heard Voile d'Ambre is going to be discontinued in September, as well as the whole Secrets d'Essences line, and other perfumes such as Moment de Bonheur at the end of this year. Cléa has been discontinued already.

Update : it already is discontinued, as confirmed by an Yves Rocher store employee. Bottles have been permanently removed from local stores, but they're still available online. Not for long though, so stock up now.

Seducianne

Many people saying this is discontinued, but I keep seeing this in physical stores where I live (Romania) so maybe it's still in stocks?

The perfume itself is really spectacular, way beyond its price; it could easily be mistaken for a niche. Balanced, beautiful, rounded, inoffensive but very charming. There's not much more that one can ask from it. I think it would make a great affordable signature everyday scent for someone who does not want to smell like the crowd. It is distinguished, yet as soft as velvet.

taureanrage69

This is a great scent for the price, rich and mysterious, a nice cross (or maybe combination) of classy and sexy. Not a powerhouse fragrance and never bothers me or gives me a headache. I love how middle of the road it is with intensity, it's strong enough to hold up through much of the day but soft enough to enjoy wearing it during that time. It's nice to see YR got a Fifi for this one, deservedly so.

ptilda

There is SO much right about this fragrance! I remember the first time I wore it, I was reminded of a fuzzy bath robe and matching slippers. That's what this fragrance is to me; a warm hug!

But interestingly, it works beautifully in the heat as well. I have used it for layering, but I really enjoy it most on its own. It's not super complex, but there is an overall complexity that stays throughout (sans much development) where you really can't put your finger on what it is. It's a bit dry and dusty, a bit sweet, a bit powdery, a bit spicy, a bit smoky. But it's not ONE of those things. It's ALL of those things. At the same time, and in roughly the same intensity.

This is perfect for cool, rainy days (hopefully this will turn into just such a day), windy days (which we often get here), or any time you need to be wrapped up warm and snug! It's uncomplicated, but not common.

Sirenn

While Voile d'Ambre lingers, as it so fleetingly does, it's the most cozy, cuddlesome caress; a dulcet, whispered hymn of amber, myrrh, and its cousin opoponax. Hers is a balm that holds you close in a loving embrace for moments you fervently wish you could crystallize, for she leaves you all too soon with just a tenuous patina of intimate resin upon your yearning skin.

I love and loathe the sleek silhouette of her impervious vial, so cool to the touch despite the sublime warmth held deep within; her aqueous, golden mist taunting me, ambrosial and ephemeral in equal measure.

Voile d'Ambre, you haunt me so ... and you wouldn't have it any other way.

Jackiex

I just can't figure this one out!
At first spray I find Voile d'Ambre very masculine, almost harsh. Reminds me a tiny bit of my late grandpa's cologne!
Luckily the harshness doesn't last too long, give it maybe 10 minutes. At this point is still a bit masculine but some mysterious kind of feminine softness starts breaking through. The drydown is beautiful but kind of odd!
This is so out of my comfort zone but I keep coming back to it. I recently wore Voile d'Ambre on a date night with the husband and felt POWERFUL.
Think I'm keeping this a rare treat, probably for those autumn/winter date nights.
Voile d'Ambre has left me slightly confused!

Ladybedwell

Hello everybody

Every year at the beginning of autumn, when the trees are preparing for their last show of the year, I bring out Voile d'ambre and I celebrate the spectacular show of nature with this fragrance.

Voile d'ambre for me is the perfect fragrance for this time of year, it has that gentle warmth of the autumn sun and the trees enchant us with a magnificent display of colours while the dead leaves gently dancing in the wind.
In French it goes like this:
"Les feuilles mortes dansent dans le vent de l'automne."

Anyway, this is what I experience when I wear this fragrance - my favourite time of the year.

Voile d'ambre is warm and soft and feels like a gentle hug. The juiciness and hint of citrus from the mandarin linger quite a while in this fragrance and every so often it peeps out in between the warm opoponax and myrrhe which results in a festive vibe. The whole thing is very gentle and has the perfect balance between warm, soft and sweet. The dry down is beautiful, creamy and ambery with a sprinkle of smokiness from the incense.

I have been using this fragrance every autumn for the last 8 years and to me there is no better fragrance that brings to mind the perfect depiction of the wonderful display of nature at this time of year.

oceanbreeze

This fragrance is mystique to my nose. I imagine Voile d'Ambre on a woman who is not very young, with a strong character and somewhat like George Sand who was very intriguing. I can not decide whether I like it or not. But I do not want to give up on this fragrance. It has a masculine note. I need to pair it with another fragrance to make it smell wonderful to my nose. Can anybody suggest me a fragrance that would make a perfect match with Voile d'Ambre?

IDreamPurple

Here I am, surrounded by heaps of samples and bottles of ambers from designers and niche both, and Voile d'Ambre is giving all of them a run for their money. Opening is a tad harsh, but after about 15 minutes it becomes a multifaceted, sweet and smooth ambery treat.

Bubbles1964

Second time wearing Voile D'Ambre, and I know that I don't like the first 15 minutes of the opening. There's something in the composition that smells synthetic to me. I'll never be able to spray this near my face because of how off-putting and strong the scent starts out.

I do enjoy the middle and base, a spicy start followed by a warm vanilla and sandalwood drydown. It doesn't change after the initial opening, only getting softer with time.

I was so curious to try VdA, and was positive I'd love it based off reviews and notes listed, so I blind bought a 1.7oz EDP bottle. It's nice but if I had it to do over I would've gone with a smaller sample.

I like it but it's not a love, good but not a masterpiece. I will test this in colder weather and reevaluate whether I will be keeping it or letting it go.

Edit: well, I let this one go and gave it to my friend who reported that her husband loves it.

SniffinBloomingBubbleLand

Most luxurious and finest bomb of sweetness.

I was positively surprised, I was afraid this to be terribly classical and not sweet. But it's in the modern way sweet. Very!

Reminds of some delicious sugar-liqueur, that having a watery effect. Honey-like.
Very fine, "over-fine" scent... most feminine. Trail leads once again upstairs, along the stairs that go through decades - young ladies are leaving, and it is weekend.

Reminds REALLY LOT of Salvador Dali's peachy kind perfume "Dalissime", but this is better and softer.

Reminds of the last Tosca perfumes, a bit, in greenish packages. Those were still sold in the early 80's, and which were the most beautiful ever. But this is as Tosca perfume with 1/3 water in it.

dsty

Voile d'Ambre is certainly well named. It's a warm, sweet, balsamic kind of perfume, and not a bad performer, but for all that there's no heaviness at all about it: it really has a transparent quality - a veil of a scent instead of a blanket. Which makes it pretty versatile: it just about works on this drizzly day in June, even though it would probably shine more in fall or winter. As for the second part of the name: there's no amber in the list of notes, but the way the dominant resinous notes are combined with sweet vanilla, sandalwood and soft incense does suggest it. It's not gourmand but it does lean ever so slightly that way, which I like.
All in all this is, for me, another confirmation that Yves Rocher really can't be beat for price/quality. It's not entirely my thing, although I do like it quite a lot, and so it'll probably take me many years' worth of rainy days to get through my little decant, but I'm glad it's not discontinued yet where I live anyway.

Shwets

Wow! I cannot believe this doesnt have amber and its sandalwood that i'm smelling? I only realised after a reviewer pointed this out.

Yet i still understand the references to Obsession and Shalimar. The opoponax is reminds me of that in Obsession (vintage) and the amber that i thought there was or whatever the note is with a citrus edge reminds me of that found in Shalimar.

I'm also getting a sophisticated Amber Romance!

Can be headache inducing so best to spray once and away from the face. The dry down is even more lovely as it becomes smoother and has a slight plastic doll head vibe which i happen to like.

The woody dry down also reminds me of Joop for Women - i only realised days later after trying to work out what else it reminds me of.

spinderella

@ blueflowers; I don't think this one is discontinued (yet). It is still going strong on the website of YR, so make a stash if you can ;-). The pure perfume version is discontinued, but the edp is still available.... And it is lovely

NicoleET88

Let me preface this by saying...the following is NOT a negative review. This is just a commentary on the association I have with the scent of this perfume.

When I was a young teenager Victoria's Secret Amber Romance body spray was all the rage, right alongside Love Spell. Being yet unable to shop in lingerie stores without getting serious side-eye from my chaperones, Amber Romance was off limits to me. Also, my meager allowance...wouldn't allow it. But one day I was alone in a dollar store and came upon a knock-off called "Amber Seduction" or something equally comical, and there was nothing standing in my way, so I bought it!
The first hour of Viole d'Ambre smells like a richer, more nuanced version of that cheapy little body splash I got for 99 cents. Now, just because it was an inexpensive "bootleg" version of the Vicky Secret didn't mean it smelled bad. Not at all! I actually liked it much better than the original, and I even bought a back up bottle which I held onto for several years. I only eventually got rid of it because the plastic sprayer broke.

This Yves Rocher take on Amber reminds me so much of that body spray but takes things to an exalted level. It's very sexy. It's powdery, soft, deep, warm, and a little bit dark. It's also pretty powerful initially, announcing itself and projecting without becoming overwhelming. And then, because this is a parfum and not a diluted dollar store mist, it lasts for quite a while and evolves in scent. It ends up sitting fairly close to my skin like a sensual veil. By the later dry down the resinous incense have drifted away and I get a fresh sweetness, like a clean vanilla sugar. It's very comforting and feminine.

I'm so glad to have received this in a swap!

Carah

I tried it today in their store and all the way home I was thinking what is it reminds me of??? It's Shalimar, it's a not so cheap dupe. Totally linear, no real depth or anything in it, but if you don't want to break the bank and your Shalimar is finished this one will do very nicely!
Got home and tried them side by side, it's definitely it! I think this is the first ever Shalimar dupe I came across that would be so close.

Blueflowers

I've developed this unfortunate habit of falling in love with recently discontinued fragrances.

This is such a lovely amber (without the literal amber "note"). It's got that crackly warmth I associate with amber; like a well loved record on a vintage turntable, cuddly and safe. It's balsamic, resinous, warm, softly sweet, and a bit herbal/earthy. I love all those adjectives, and I love this.

I get the references to Shalimar as well. This doesn't take my breath away like Shalimar can--but I can see this being something I'd like to keep in frequent rotation (if it hadn't been so cruelly discontinued!) I imagine there are high end, expensive ambery orientals that I haven't sniffed that are sublime, but this is really, really nice and straightforward.

It sits close to the skin, but sticks around--which is how I like my perfumes to perform.

I will savor my little bottle.

kissemiss

sampled this and wearing it right now. I love this! it reminds me a LOT of one of my favourites, lalique le parfum. on me this has the same sort of aromatic opening and the same type of cozy, sweet but never cloying drydown. need a FB of this.

piahellgren

A balsamic amber that never gets cloying (I know I use that word a lot, but particularly with amber and vanilla I steer clear of cloying perfumes). It´s mild, yet resinous, has aspects of dulche de leche that still isn´t too sweet and a green, bright accord in the beginning that tones down, but affects the perfume all through. There is no amber, but the effects of the balsamic, semi-sweet notes is very ambery and definitely slightly smoky, just perfect in smokiness, never gets strange. I think the patchouli resembles the patchouli in YS Iris Noir Secrets D'essences - it´s clear and clean and a little bit earthy. It´s beautiful scent that could almost be niche quality.

DomfromBE

Yves Rocher...

Beautiful affordable "cheapie" that I use as a real feel good fragrance for cozy days at home of even at work.

Cherry_Darling

2017: Love the opening of this, I love all the notes and the whole blend but. There is something about the dry down that doesn't sit well with me. Might be slightly plastic or the dry down of the citrus not sure. A touch headache inducing. Overall pretty good but won't be a buy.

Edit: 2022 retest: Love the opening once again, gorgeous resins. Slight animalic tone of the opoponax as usual. Strong patch and a decent dose of cardamom. Dissipates fairly quickly and has a touch herbal drydown. Not feeling plastics on this occasion, it's not headache inducing however I feel it disappears too fast.

chimidoro

This is, in my opinion, a pretty good dupe for BALENCIAGA's CRISTOBAL! (which is scarce and priced to high heavens!)

Though this is the more animalic, more incensy version, while Cristobal is more gourmand, more sweetly vanillic.

So, say, this has a darker, resinous Moschino/Obsession link, while Cristobal has a more edible, far sweeter, fuzzy Tocade/Casmir edge to its character.

As I'm lucky enough to have Cristobal in my possession, this is somewhat redundant for me, though I believe that it has some real potential for layering and as a suitable replacement for Cristobal when funds or finds don't meet the requirements.

UnearthlyApothecary

Sweet smoky gooey resin. As soon as I scored my bottle for a ridiculously low price on eBay I heard it had been discontinued. I cannot imagine why. This is my perfect amber, every note singing together in harmony. This is what I was hoping Hermes L'Ambre would be. I need to try to get a backup or two.

Lullaby.2

If you want to get noticed than this is a good choice. I love this smoky, sweet fragrance. I don t recommend to wear this in an office.

df21

Voile d'Ambre is a woodsy/musky/smoky perfume. It's an EDP, and like almost all EDPs from the Secret d'Essences collection, one spritz can go a VERY long way. It'a strong mature and mysterious scent suitable for the winter. It has a good projection and it's quite long lasting. Awesome quality for the price!

I have a love-hate relationship with Voile d'Ambre. It gives me a Calvin Klein Obsession and Dior Addict vibe, which I both love for the colder days but at the same time it's too leathery and smoky and it becomes a little harsh for my nose. So today I decided to make an experiment and add a vanilla layer with it to see if I could make it a little sweeter for my taste. I wore Voile d'Ambre and then added YR Vanilla from the Plaisirs Nature line. After a few minutes, the result was surprising... my adored Dolce & Gabbana Pour Femme (2012) that I finally gave myself for Christmas this year. If only I had tried this sooner!...:)
So there... If you like leather/smoke/woods notes and you're not a big fan of sweet perfumes, Voile D'Ambre may be for you.
If you enjoy Obsession by Calvin Klein and/or Dior Addict, you should give this one a try.
If you already own Voile D'Ambre and you find it a little too harsh, like me, you can try smooth it by adding some vanilla. (I can't promise VdA and vanilla will smell like D&G Pour Femme on everyone because it depends on our skin chemistry, but it's very likely that you find it more enjoyable since the vanilla helps masking the sharper notes).

joiroy

It's not bad. Sweet, ambery, bit of urinal cake. I don't dislike it, though.

Madrona

I don't see much of Shalimar in this one, not even a "gentle" version or what have you. It is a silky, oily, golden amber, resinous, balsamic, impossibly soft... essentially it smells exactly like I expected. I could imagine dumping some of this into a bath.

Duskfall

Starts out citrusy and slightly soapy, dries down to a warm ambery scent with a tiny tinge of smoke. There's an annoying plasticky note in the background, but it goes away after an hour or two and that's when this fragrance is at its best. Unfortunately, I don't get the spiciness at all. It's mellow and very wearable. However, it's a bit "blurry" and lacks a distinct character. I ended up giving it away to someone who appreciates its quiet charm more. I keep on using the VdA shower gel, though; it's quite true to the perfume, but somehow better.

The performance is allright for a YR fragrance. Moderate longevity and stays pretty close to skin.

Miffy8900

Balmy, spicy, incensey, oriental , smokey vanilla and amber . Reminds me of a mix of Shalimar and Roberto Cavalli (with gold initial-lid). Has an vintage old Hollywood feel to it, but without the heavy and alcohol-infused formaldehyd which many old classics has.

Feels like a young take on an old scent - could easily go as Shalimar L'eau or Légére or something like that IMO . Projects very well and lasts for ages . Very well done, Yves Rocher

snoopyQ

I gave my bottle to my mother since it has a note I just cannot handle.
It smells pleasant on other people, like a spicy ambery vanilla. Very nice indeed.
Sillage and longevity are good.

Received this today. And being a fan of amber, I don't know why I waited so long to get one of these. I am a HUGE fan of Yve Rocher's Ambre Noir for men...and I find the Voile de Ambre to be it's sister. I cannot wait to layer them together !!! I now need to order the shower gel too, lol !!! This scent is medium range amber/vanilla-ish....but just right, not overly sweet and for sure not cloying at all. Very pleasing scent, and I recommend this scent !!! Will have to have a full wearing to determine sillage/longevity, but I can "guess" that it will be moderate at best. All in all, a very classic good scent.

This was a gift from my lovely sister in law,and turns out that she knows my appetite better than myself..I liked it from the first sniff but it grows on me and is such an addictive scent that now I looove it
Yves rocher is not my favorite perfume brand, but it has some very high quality fragrances with reasonable price, which I really love to find..voile d'Ambre is one them for sure..actually this is my most favorite yves rocher
It opens kind of fresh and citrusy, reminding Hermes merveilles amber, but middle and base notes reminds me shalimar's vanilla base, which I adore..actually it doesn't have other factors that I don't like in shalimars, just that soft,Smokey powdery vanilla which I find very cozy, charming and lovely
Yves rocher voile d'ambre is not that ambery to my nose,it's a combination of spicy sweet amber, soft, smokey powdery vanilla, creamy sandalwood and some myrrh..thanks god patchouli doesn't standout.it's rich, opulent, powdery, sexy yet inoffensive, rounded, pleasant, soothing, kind of classic and very cost worthy.indeed I find it much better than similar expensive fragrances
Longevity and sillage are great..it's a sillage monster on my skin, yet it has a softness and freshness that prevents it from becoming cloying
❤❤❤❤
P.s:it can pass as unisex IMO

lisa.flynn.399

I thought this was just ok-light and inoffensive, safe work scent. I rarely reached for this. That was until I layered it with Madonna Truth or Dare. Now I'm in love with that combination!

gtabasso

Not one of the best ambers out there. Goes on citrus and bug spray then cheap vanilla; dries down a little rough around the edges and sharp but into a softer amber with good projection. It came together much better a couple of hours later. I actually put it on at 7 a.m. and went out to lunch at 11:30. Two people complimented me. One lady asked if it was Chanel No. 5. Doesn't even smell close but she thought it was yummy. I don't actually like Chanel; so, I was a bit insulted. :)

czerwinski1

Yes this is very similar to Roma!

ladushka

Rich, warm, deep amber. Not heavy, not cloying, a bit sweet, balmy but very sheer and feminine.Patchouli is not strong here. Vanilla and sandalwood in a warm drydown. Longlasting with a good sillage. Love at first sight ( sniff).

MadMadamMimm

Kind of like Shalimar + licorice. The licorice note (not listed, but I smell it) kind of kills it for me. I don't see myself wearing it again.

Mr Viking

Not my type of fragrance at first. I got intruiged by the reviews. I tried it and I most certainly love it. I was hesitant at first but we got to know each other in a week or so.
Now I am interested in trying out this type of fragrances, wonderfull.

hnica

This is stunning - and I don't even like amber to begin with. For me amber perfumes never had an appeal, because I need my perfumes to evoke feelings, pictures, moods, whatever, and amber perfumes were always very dull and uninteresting to my nose. Ambers, cashmere cardigans, pearls and buns - I was never that kind of girl who could pull these off. Now I think I found my amber. Voile d'Ambre is absolutely beautiful, balmy, sensual, rich and sheer at the same time. When I smell it, I think of a warm summer evening next to the ocean, watching the sunset, and being happy with yourself and with the moment. Oh, and Springsteens Waitin' On A Sunny Day plays in the background.

Kolchan

Rich, opulent, sweet are the words that come to mind when I sniff this.
I found this fragrance really interesting, sometimes I smell more of a smoky amber, other times it's pure sweet vanilla. Depending on the weather maybe? Although I couldn't understand Voile d'Ambre completely, it impresses me a lot beeing so inexpensive.
Its drydown is to die for, deep, warm, sensual blend of resins and sandalwood. One of the sexiest perfumes I own. Beautiful!

Well done Yves Rocher, and please, never discontinue this one!

temporal

The composition is rich and perfectly balanced, it is round and mild, and it remains clear through the hours.

At first, it may seem strong.
In cold season it reveals itself.
It is pleasant and quite universal perfume that brings some warm relaxing effect. Perfume for wise women.

Belladone

This is my signature. I love the smell of amber and this one is not too rough for a woman. It surrounds me and keeps me calm and peacefull. Very seductive ! I love it !

Mmm...Smells

If Ciara had a baby w/ CK Obsession, this would be that baby.

If you like Ciara (I used to, way back in the day, but do not care for it at all now, I just recently discovered) and/or Obsession, you will most likely like Voile d'Ambre

It is a nice, sweet, warm scent.
It isn't bad, but it is potent. Makes my head ache a bit.

(I wish there were a "Meh" smiley rating.)

Evelyn Orchid

The sensual velvety veil clinging to your skin. It is everything it says here as main accords: balsamic, smokey, warm spicy, sweet and woody with a luscious, smooth amber golden glamour. It's strong and rich yet delicate and soft at the same time. It opens spicy and fresh green but very soon, within few minutes, it settles to a soft vanilla touch entering the woody territory on an autumnal warm sunshine day. It fits as a cashmere cloak embrassing you along with the sun's rays of its first stage to the darker vanilla/sandalwood phase of the drydown. It's not very complex but it's very sophisticated and it has certain depth to it and mystery.
Voile d'Ambre is quite masculine as some reviewers pointed out, but to me it has the typical dual side, the ambiguity of all orientals: it's extremely feminine on women whereas worn by men it becomes quite masculine. Its warmth and elegance appear both softer/dreamy and solid/strong. L'Occitane's "Ambre" is also very masculine to me.
I love it when the amber is done with an arcaic, antique vibe as this one. That's where it resambles L'Occitane's "Ambre", which suits better my taste, but Voile d'Ambre is also such a delight. It's definitely sweeter than L'occitane's which has some bitter-sweet zest to it.
Voile d'Ambre is a sweet amber theme, but not cloying just warm, comforting, creamy (cardamom?) sweetness that is perfectly suitable for a cozy night near a fireplace....

moonstarwolf

This is warm, yet sweet and sexy, feels like you are wrapped in a warm mink throw and snuggled up by an autumn fire with your sweetheart or your lover with hot buttered rum or hot brandy in a snifter and gazing lovingly into each other's eyes with the firelight flickering in them. ;) Makes a woman feel warm, sexy, sultry, seductive. Just a gem and such a Perfectly balanced fragrance. I walk into a room when I wear this and feel like such a Woman! ;) I get very many compliments on this, especially by men! <3 It draws them in. It lures them in. ;)

Sweet Amber...

This is a beautiful amber fragrance. I get a syrupy aspect to it which I like. I find it simple enough and not too complicated, but I also like the fact that it has a sophistication to it as well. There is an aspect of Shalimar to it as well, and I think this adds depth to the fragrance and stops it being too linear. The Myrrh, Sandalwood and Vanilla shine though, and there is a hint of Mandarin Orange as well.

Overall a really good fragrance and Yves Rocher have not disappointed here. Worth a try considering the good price.

Hildegerd

The amber makes this gourmand very sexy. reminds me of the original Roma (laura Biagotti).

elsie.oliveros

Like others have mentioned, it also reminds me of Shalimar, not the original Shalimar, but the reformulation with an added vetiver or lavender note (funny that niether is listed). Then as it dries I get all the warm notes. It is non-intrusive. I don't find it strong at all. It is quite lovely, easy on the nose, comforting. I can't imagine anyone disliking it. From now on, my number one recommendation for anyone asking about a fragrance for a job interview.

Ivyswirl

If Goldilocks had to choose a well priced 'amber' perfume then this isn't a bad choice... its neither too hot and spicy, too sweet or too smoky etc...

It's a lovely, almost gourmand, slightly spiced fragrance that is like a hug in a bottle. It's just right! No single note stands out for me it but it evolves a little and dries down a in a cosy vanilla haze. I see some similarities to Yria.

Only issue for me as usual is longevity and sillage. This isn't strong, nor does it last much. Nicer for chilling out in the evening then feeling like a goddess.

Ditta70

Oh, how I love this little wonder!
I prepared a sample for someone today, and decided to wear it. It is such a delight! Simple yet completely fulfilling, like a nice pancake with maple syrup. No, this is not how it smells, but how it makes me feel. Pure comfort scent. Dreamy, cosy, snuggly, like your favourite cashmere wrap. It is like walking in the park with a beloved one in the golden autumn sunshine (like we have today in Budapest.) A simple, yet utterly fulfilling pleasure in life. Just perfect.

oks-oks

It is a very easy to wear deep sweet and comforting scent. In a sense it does not smell of perfume at all, it smells gently of chocolates with ganache filling to me and somehow it just melts into your skin becoming your own. Gourmand in a good sense. It is neither modern nor old fashion. Would do as a unisex fragrance. Great for autumn and winter. It is my first and only Yves Rocher and it is quite impressive for its market niche

rougenoirmakeup

This scent is absolutely intoxicating - it's one of those that make you sniff your wrists all day because you can't get enough of it. My boyfriend loves it as well, he thinks it's a very seductive scent, which I totally agree with. This scent makes me feel really confident and sexy and I love that about it.

It smells sooo much better on the skin than in the bottle, you don't really get the sweet notes without skin contact. On the skin I get a whole lot of spices (clove is the first one that comes to my mind), but also this wonderful sweetness that's slightly vanilla-y. It doesn't smell too smokey to me, which I really like.

The longevity is great, it lasts for 12+ hours on me. I do have to be careful with the application though, because this can give me a headache if I wear too much of it.

phurstclass

Top notch quality for the price. And it suits all genders.

drugstore classics

Trying to describe this scent is useless. I am FOND of her, attached even, and still incapable of aptly putting her into words.

She is strong, warm, capable, womanly, romantic, and classic all in one. In short, Voile d'Ambre has all the good qualities of the best amber fragrances, but somehow manages to rise above mere amber to quietly DAZZLE.

Good sillage in the opening notes, becoming more subtle and cozy as the hours pass. For me personally the base note lingers softly for quite some time, making this akin to a skin scent or basic musk in comfort quality.

But more sophisticated!

Absolutely the best scent I've gotten from Yves Rocher and worthy of At Least 5 stars. :D

Kohla1

I got one of those damp towel sample things through a swap and I looked at the notes and thought "nah why waste it I wont like this much, pass it to someone who will" I am so glad I decided to try it out! I LOVE it! Projects amazing on me too!! Will need to get this.

lulu169

lovely and expensive smell - too bad it doesnt last at all (like all of YR perfumes)

villey91

This is one of my top 10 favourite perfumes of all time and I have many! I fell in love with this scent when I was little and got a little sample paper of it from my mom or from the shop or something. I loved this then so much, I had the paper in this one box that I had some stuff I treasured...And like 10 years later, which would be last year, I found that scent paper and it still smelled amazing and I checked what the name was on it and...then I ordered it. I was so happy it was still in production. Apparently it's one of their best selling scents.

Some people have mentioned that this reminds them of Addict by Christian Dior. And I have to say as an Addict fan - it really does. Like 50 % of it. Mandarin leaf and mandarine orange from the top notes and the Sandalwood-Vanilla combo from the base.
But this fragrance is 50 % amber and 50% other stuff. The scent is super addictive. It is sweet, sexy, luxurious, festive, rich, oriental...everything I look for in a perfume. I do love florals too and I would layer Voile d'Ambre with some floral or oriental floral scent. But it's also amazing on it own.
Some people also mention Shalimar but I don't think has that much in common with that. I'm not a Shalimar fan, mainly because of the iris that is in it. But only thing Voile d'Ambre may have in common is the incensy vanilla.
I hugely recommend this for anyone who loves Vanilla but also for anyone who loves amber. This scent is not love or hate, it's love or like. For me it's love. I secretly love that it's cheap but of course like anyone I want to say that I'm wearing something more expensive. And usually I do wear more expensive stuff but for the price this is a steal. I would pay closer to a 100 for this same scent. But I'm sure the ingredients are completely synthetic so that's why it is cheap.

Aaanyway the scent opens with the Dior Addict styled Mandarin leaf, mandarine orange and Vanilla with unique cardamom and myrrh in the mix ! Loveliest openings ever...
Soon the scent starts to get more and more ambery. I smell amber, ambergris and woods. Sandalwood compliments the amber greatly. I'm not sure if I smell any patchouli. But the oppoponax(amber) here is the greatest I have smelled in any amber perfume so far. The Vanilla is there all the time too but not overpoweringly. Some incense is present in the drydown with the amber but not too much, just a hint.

Yves Rocher I guess doesn't get enough credit for their scents and stuff. From me either. But I have to say Voile d'Ambre and their Monoi oil and monoi-scents are one of the greatest scents in general on the market. I recommend this perfume a lot. I wish they would release a 100 ml bottle. They only have 30 and 50ml bottles of this. At least it's an eau de parfum. Bottle is nice looking but could be cooler and more expensive looking.

J'aimeParfum

one of the most wonderful smell that exist in the world,so amazed everytime i sniff this, eventhough i can't wear it,it should win the nobel prize

J'aimeParfum

i love the smell so mysterious but giving me headache, strong headache.i also have the body lotion as gift which is wonderful and give me also...headache.

perfumeaddiction

I purchased this because it was compared to L'Occitane Ambre which I absolutely LOVE. Unfortunately I did not find Yves to smell at all like L'Occitane Ambre. What I find it to smell like is more on the lines of Shalimar. And please don't tar and feather me but Shalimar is one of those fragrances I absolutely cannot tolerate. If you are a fan of Shalimar I think it would be very likely that you would love this one. It's kind of got this old school thing going on. I think that's why it reminds me of Shalimar. I think Shalimar is a lovely scent just not on me. So in closing if your seeking a replacament for L'Occitane I would say this is not the best choice.

victoria.mei1992

I will get some samples soon, I've never tried yves rocher perfumes before, but bottles are amzing. Love that shape.

k8r8r

This is my first Yves Rocher fragrance. It's a travel size and a blind-buy.

Not my cup of tea. *But* it's March 2nd, 68° and sunny and so close to spring. I shall revisit this in cooler temperatures in autumn when I'm craving a warm and cozy scent.

My sample is a splash. I may transfer it to an atomizer to see if the mode of delivery makes a difference. I'm keeping an open mind.

Brunette_Bombshell

Its a very warm and nice scent and to me it smells very similar with Bvlgari Jasmin Noir edt.

Mooniq

Voile d'Ambre Le Parfum!
What a great mix of Opoponax, Myrrh, Insence and Vanilla. Longlasting on my skin with perfect sillage. Not too loud, not too pale. I just adore Le Parfum.

Voile d'Ambre Le Parfum!
Vilken underbar mix av Opoponax, Myrra, Rökelse och Vanilj. Otroligt hållbar på min hud och perfekt utstrålning. Inte för kraftig, inte för blek. Jag bar älskar Le Parfum.

Pepperflower

Smells expensive, and high end brand worthy, but surprise! It's the naturey over looked brand of yves rocher and it just so happens that they made a beautiful and moving fragrance. At first spray I get loads of orange which made me step back because I'm not the biggest citrus fan, but thankfully it dulls down to reveal sweet and powdery opoponax, smokey incense, and spiced vanilla. It's not a listed note but I smell licorice too especially in the beginning. This hits all my spots in what i love in a sexy warm fragrance. This reminds me of Shalimar, my ultimate favorite, and it just so happens that this is similar. I find this gets sweeter with time and yet, could possibly be worn by a man. I am woman wearing this and this makes me feel voluptuous, glowing and cozy.

polly golightly

blacktaffeta

Really wanted to love this one, but sadly I found it synthetic-smelling and headache-inducing. Not like the Yves Rocher of old, alas.

diondra

If there is such a thing as a mild oriental scent, this fits perfectly into that category.

It opens up with a soft burst of mandarin orange and a light balsamic smoky scent. After a while it settles and becomes more of a warm and cozy amber scent with a slight sweetness. I get mostly opoponax and incense but the vanilla and sandalwood takes away the sharp edges and give it a smooth feeling.

It's a quite linear but pretty scent that lasts the entire day. Once again a well done fragrance from the Secret d'Essences series and definately a scent I will be using a lot during the fall and winter.

Venusia

I received the beautiful bottle a few days ago as a blind buy inspired by your reviews. Sniffing the cap I told myself I got it wrong with this one as I got a first impression of an outdated perfume.
Then I sprayed twice after the shower. Wonder! Strong mandarin and resin notes filled the room for 10 minutes. In the drydown the myrrh, the sandal wood, a faint note of smoked cardammom revealed themselves bold but elegant. This phase lasts about two hours, later a cosy cloud of lightly sweet amber and fine vanilla surrounds me for about 3-4 hours. After 8 hours I can still smell lightly sweet vanillated sandal wood and myrrh and some yellow wild flower - maybe dandelion. Sillage is quite good for about 4 hours. I have been using this perfume almost every day since I've got it. I can't get enough of it and I actually get the feeling it's different on different body parts (neck, arms, upper body). The finely combined natural ingredients make it a quality scent and I understand the Fi-fi Award.
I am a young but fine nose and I am looking forward to trying other amber perfumes soon.
I find Voile d'ambre extremely sensual in the most innocent and elegant way! I love it! Thank you for your wonderful reviews!

mamufa

Very nice, warm and cozy. Sandalwood, some vanilla. Well mixed. I don't get mirth and cardamon on me. It's not heavy oriental, don't be afraid. I would say it's a very mild oriental, if anything like that exists :)
It's perfect in autumn and winter. Very feminine.

A little too heavy on mandarine at the beginning. At least in my opinion.

On the morning I used Voile d'Ambre for the first time my 7 years old son started to sniff around me and then hugged me and said: I like your perfume, mummy.

I would never expect that Voile d'Ambre would please such a young nose ;)

MoreScentsThanSense

Now this is a very well done scent, kudos to Yves Rocher!

Voile d'Ambre is a cozy autumnal scent, reminiscent of fallen leaves and bonfires. Quite linear to me, if you are a fan of opoponax-centered fragrances and incense you should definitely give it a try.

Very mysterious scent, it contains vanilla but it's not sweet, despite the sandalwood it's not noticeably woody, I don't get mandarin either. Just smokey, lightly spicy, powdery opoponax and myrrh. Moderate sillage/ longevity and very affordable.

Could be a fantastic daytime fragrance for the fans of Shalimar.

rosembloom

I just adore it! Great for cool days, Fall and evenings. The amber is nice and cozy but not stiffling nor too heady. It takes on a buttery quality on me, milky and sweet as it mingles with my skin's chemistry. It is balmy and rich without that stuffy note that turns strangely foody ( think Eggo waffles) on me. Good sillage that won't burn other's braincells yet has an impressive longevity.: another Yves Rocher crush! xxx

picasso_x

To me this is unisex perfume. It's very strong opoponax more smoky woody and sweet but not sugary. Good long last and good sillage for cold weather. Good quality one from Yves rocher.

Bronte

This is a beautifully warm and sensual perfume. One which improves the longer you wear it. It`s certainly one for cold winter days or cosying up on cold Winter nights. A definite keeper.

angelesgarcia222

Please, bring it back! I love this perfume

chrisndema

Surprisingly for me the first smell that came to me was Dior Addict for some reason......I definitely want this beauty....good for layering!

carlayorke

I bought this blind from a seller on eBay after reading reviews here. What a nice surprise! I thought it might be like Revlon's Fire & Ice.
This is a more substantial, heavier, more interesting scent, without any floral broadcasting and artificial vanilla extract.

I wore it a few times over the winter and wasn't sure I liked it, but that is not necessarily a bad thing!

It has a more serious, classic vibe, and the blend is worth more investigation.
For a few dollars, it's a lot of fun to try and to enjoy.

Marli1973

Yes I have to agree with the previous review.
I am wearing it now and smell lovely.
Great for a cold & grey sky weather.
Smell sophisticate and expensive.
In general is believed that expensive perfumes have much better quality ingredients
But I have learned that:
Not all expensive perfumes are nice
Not all cheap perfumes are bad
Well worth having this one.

Mooniq

I'm finally impressed by Yves Rocher! Voile d'ambre is fantastic, wonderful, A powerful, rich, warm and supersexy scent that lasts all day!

Äntligen är jag imponerad av Yves Rocher! Voile d'amber är helt fantastisk. En kraftfull, rik, varm och supersexig doft som varar hela dagen!

rainingroses

I'm not keen on calling fragrances 'old lady' or 'suitable for teens only' and the like (actually, I hate it), but this fragrance definitely feels grown-up to me. It also smells more expensive than it is.

It's complex, strong and very, very smoky. Very mysterious and sophisticated. No flowers or fruits to be smelled (not on me, at least). It has some ambery sweetness, and I must say that I'm delighted by the cardamom note, I love that!

I love this, but only in fall and winter, I can't imagine wearing this in the summer.

babskrimpen

This was my first meeting with myrhh and oppoponax and I am sorry to say I dislike it so much that I did not have the courage to wait for the middle notes or let alone the dry down... I tried a few times within a few days. I looked up the notes and what I experienced must have been the myrhh and oppoponax (in combination with the cardamom and incense): a wave of pungent, weirdly herbal/woody and slightly medicinal overwhelming notes attacked my nose. Not as strongly apalling as ammonia but the effect on my nose reminded me of that. I only wanted to turn my nose away.. Looking at the notes I can only explain it like they all together knocked me out whilst I was trying to grasp what I was smelling. I am gonna try it again within a couple of weeks to see if my chemistry or mood is gonna allow me to wear it a little longer but it would suprise me. I think I need vanilla or tonka bean or anything creamy/sweet to balance out an attack of herbs and incences lol! And the myrh stuff is probably not helping... I am really not shy though as rebella might expect :p

Exit: I gave it a second change today and got through the top notes. The middle notes were ok with me, though I think the patchouli still makes me think something is wrong with this smell, like it is a medicine. But the dry down is ver very very nice! Vanilla with an edge of wood and smoke, so warm and cozy! I reapplied and actually start to like the top notes too since I pay attention now too what I actually smell, instead of getting scared away by the harshness of that first wave. I really smelled the orange mandarin! But still a medicine or maybe a new plastic toy smell lingering during top and middle notes.

Enomis

for me this one is a bit too "unspectacular", but i love to mix it with cashmere - the match perfectly :)

crescentsho

I don't like the opening. very strong citrusy but I feel lack of something. It's quite nice, but I have to wait until it settled down

angelesgarcia222

I LOVE this perfume. Love the opoponax, the myrrh and vanilla combination. It's addictive. I learned today this lovely perfume, perhaps my favourite, it's been discounted. In Madrid it can be found in one of the Yves Rocher shops only, I'm getting next month two bottles.

Arlene-Beatrix

Pleasantly warm, oriental fragrance, just the way you could expect, looking at the fragrance juice. Very good stillage and longevity.
However, it is a bit too tiring for me. I could not imagine wearing it for the whole day.

missmoa

On my skin it turns out to smell like a salty caramel with a smokey and peppery background. It's sweet but not too sweet (because of the smokey feeling) and it's very soft. Don't think it's similar to Shalimar which is much more potent. I only wish this one had better silage and longevity but i still love it. (I don't have a spray bottle, maybe that would improve at least the silage.) It's perfect for cosy winter days when you need something to warm you. I can't stop smelling my arm when i wear it, so comforting and complex for being such a bargain.

Christina0065

Love this!! Just received a small 5ml bottle and i want another already!!Very pretty scent!

KasKas

This perfume smells exactly like Shalimar to me. If you're searching for a cheaper dupe, deifinitely check this one out.

brada

creamy, soft with a long power. For me is too skinclose, but it represent a relax from baroc perfumes t I adore.

Dakota22

On my skin this smells exactly like Shalimar which is too heavy for me. I couldn't get to the heart or dry down as I had to wash it off. Funny because I wore Shalimar as a young woman. Tastes change.

Enomis

bought this one before trying... its very heavy, gives me headaches... however, i like it somehow. better dont spray too much, sillage and longevity are enourmously enourmous!

drouhin

Beautiful, well-blended, very balsamic amber. To my nose, many ambers veer too far into patchouli or citrus territories, but this one doesn't, even though both are present. The powder and sweetness are both under control too. I'm reminded of nothing less than Chanel's Coco, but a Coco with the balsamic elements amped up and the florals muted. Impressive fragrance very attractively priced. Well done, Yves Rocher!

dkny27

Deep, incense-y and warm. There is, amazingly, a dramatic difference between the scent on my skin to the scent on my sweater. On my skin, there is a bit more wood and citrus, on my sweater lingers the ghost of Shalimar with ambery vanilla.
Evening, yes...
Winter, yes....
A warm ambiance, yes....
A richly smelling fragrance, high end, with such a surprising price.....

annbolly31

Ahhh, I love this one. It smells beautiful. It may seem "too old" for teens and younger women cause they usually prefer very sweet scents, although I'm only 15 and I feel I can still wear it. Reminds me of Shalimar by Guerlain but... it gives me a BIG headache. I don't know why. At first everything was ok, but now I can't stand it on myself. I'm really sad because it was my real "love at first sniff", but now I'll have to sell it. No point in wearing perfume that keeps irritating me :( Love/hate relationship :/

ayarniknit

I have owned this perfume for months, and didn't try it until I ran out of my last bottle of Shalimar. I'm almost upset that I waited this long. Being a longtime lover of Guerlain and Shalimar, it is almost shocking to me how much this resembles Shalimar. Blasphemy, I know, but the notes are similar, especially the balance of sweet citrus zest with incense.
I think the drydown is quite different, Shalimar transforms into a well-done powdery mist, and settles into a mature, dark Vanilla. Voile d"Ambre doesn't have those transformations and complexities, but this doesn't bother me that much at all seeing as I love the way it opens. Longevity and sillage are slightly less than that of the Shalimar, but it is a beauty for the price.
Would recommend for anyone looking for a cheap thrill and a Shalimar shaped hole in their heart.

Cybernoir

Just ordered my second bottle, and changed my vote from Like to Love. It is rare for me to finish a bottle, simply because I have so much perfume, but I went through this one in less than a year. Love-Love.

Warm, ambery, smooth, just the right balance of silage and softness. Creates a golden halo that surrounds you with light and warmth. Neither too sweet, nor too basso profundo, as some ambers can go. The opening is not the strong suit, so wait a few minutes at least before sniffing.

Very unusual scent, with unusual notes, but it works. Although this is a smoky, spicy oriental, it actually opens green and woody; bright, with a fleeting and light floral note. The mandarin orange really helps to balance this with a little sweet, honey note that brings some juice to what would otherwise be a dry, woody opening.

I get more myrrh and patchouli than I do vanilla, making it less sweet, sexier, a more classic, mature amber than, say, Amber Romance. The amber in this one is closer to the Prada ambers, but I prefer this one, as it is smokier, with more incense. It is somewhat similar to L'Occitane Ambre, which I recently got from a wonderful Fragrantican (thanks again), but I have to say I do prefer Voile d'Ambre.

I only recently realized I loved cardamom, when I kept seeing cardamom show up unexpectedly in perfumes I liked. The cardamom in this is not that minty, more sweet and resinous. It is interesting, because I know some folks see this as a farily linear, one-note fragrance, but on me it seems to develop nicely over about 4-6 hours, wearing closer over time, but becoming lovelier as the hours pass, ending with a wonderful drydown that manages to be both cozy and homey at the same time it is sexy and sultry. And that is a nice way to end the day.

pepe7111

i am a male who is in his 40s and i think i am brave enough to wear this super scent in my room.

tomorrow will be my absolute debut day ,will wear in the workplace also.

alas::)

Catty

I just purchased it again for this Autumn-winter season! Perfect!

this is a bit different than what i usually wear, though i do tend to gravitate towards amber scents, but it's really growing on me, the longer i wear it. i definitely get an amber-incense feel mixed with something a bit citrus maybe? this is a bit more woody than the orientals i generally wear, but i like that it's different. it seems very sophisticated to me. i would love to wear it with a leather jacket in winter...i think the combined smells in the crisp air would be amazing!

likes2paint

This is my kind of juice! I love the warm, smouldering smokey amber scent. Winter evenings with a bottle of Nuit St George to finish after dinner. Now all I need is the bloke! All donations of this perfume are welcome He heeee!

Sweet_Violet

A gift from my brother :) Firstly I thought it wouldn't be really suitable for me(because of the "yeah-I'm-in-fact-grown-up" style)...but just after spraying my wrist, amber and sweetness surrounded my senses. I recommend it as a fall or winter fragrance. I love it!!

SadieBluesLady

The Rocher website lists the ingredients slightly differently. In terms of how I think the scent would smell, it does make a difference!

Head Notes: Italian Green Mandarin, Cardamom.

Is Rocher being skimpy on the details? Is that why there is no mention of myrtle? Green mandarin?

I like this perfume quite a lot. It's not love, but it's close.

Museumgal

A bit medicinal at first, but then very warm and cozy. I think the myrrh must be the culprit for the medicinal feel at first, but if you give it a half an hour it settles down into a warm, slightly spicy resin scent. Nicely smoky without being choking or overdone.

Rocher Voile d'Ambre - veil of amber. I love creatively descriptive names and this one is perfect - a subtle veil-like amber. There is nothing unusual or particularly original here, just a well judged blend of high quality ingredients at a reasonable price, presented in an elegantly simple bottle. Voile d'Ambre has an interesting top note of petitgrain (orange leaf and twig) and myrtle that starts the scent off with a sort of camphoraceous herbal citrus peel note. If you love this perfume only for the ambery middle-base, this top note may be a bit jarring, but to me it is the gong that welcomes the veiled beauty to the entrance hall. The top note gradually fades over the first hour or two, leaving an elegant ambery veil that is fairly linear and lasts and lasts. The resiny amber note is soft and deft and just barely sweet. You could wear this anywhere except perhaps for an outdoorsy day - this is an elegant indoor scent, a scent for a quiet gathering or fine dining or languishing with your lover.

Voile D'Ambre was my first venture into the world of Amber (or not) fragrances. I was inspired to try it by the reviews here and also by the desire to become familiar with the more current trends in fragrance. Many of the scentS that I wear feature amber so I am familiar wIth the accord and it's traditional uses in fragrance, but really had no idea of what to expect with this newer genre.

At first sniff I was instantly pleasantly surprised. Good grief, I knew and loved this scent having smelled it or it's close siblings many times before. Voile D'Ambre is the absolutely delightful slightly spicy, warm and woody back drop with minor variances to many of my beloved Oriental fragrances. As Orientals go, it is a light, bright and fairly cheerful one.

There were intermittent seconds when it seemed about to become sickeningly sweet, but just as quickly that changed and the fragrance then became smokey, woody, spicy and balmy. It would repeat this progression of accords again and again.

As I luxuriated in this warm spicy goodness, my senses awaited the next big change. They waited and waited and waited. Is that all there is?

Surely not. Goodness, that really is all there is! While the scent is truly lovely, I felt a lot like Clara Weller in the old Wendy's commercial. Where's the beef??? In this case I guess that it should be flowers. Is this what Amber fragrances are all about?
I thought maybe not.

Well, I examined the note lists of the other Amber scents listed as smell alikes on this page and sure enough, all of those other fragrances feature at least three floral notes. Voile D'Ambre reminded me a lot of a very nice date that piqued your interest but left you strangely unsatisfied. It's akin to having appetizers and dessert at a fine restaurant. The selections were indeed excellent but left me hungry for a real meal.

The strength of the fragrance in terms of longevity was fairly good, but it required quite a heavy application to get any sillage. Well, my interest is piqued, and pleasantly so thanks to Voile D'Ambre, so now I will look for other Amber scents. I will happily keep and enjoy this bottle but will not purchase another.

meganinstmaxime

I would definitely recommend this as a great introductory amber oriental that is very well priced. If Annick Goutal's Ambre Fetiche is a tad expensive for you give this one a go. If you're in France you can pick up a 50ml bottle for 27 Euro as they are always having sales. I wore Obsession in the 90s and like others have said there is a definite resemblance with this Yves Rocher scent however there was always a slightly sharp unpleasant note in Obsession that I didn't care for but this is very smooth and very comforting. The other half likes this one a lot whereas he doesn't care for my all my perfumes.

Fräulein Schill

Reminds me of Rimini, Italy, when I used to walk along an endless beach and wind was endless as well, a bit cold but this smell gave me so nice and comfortable feelings that it is going to stay in my mind for ever. Never enough words to say if you try to describe it. Simply try to feel. Wonderful perfume.

Eos

Voile d'Ambre is pretty sweet for my taste. The opening is reminiscent of smelling bubblegum through its package (which is pleasantly nostalgic, actually). Nevertheless, when I asked a friend of mine what he thought of this scent, he replied "it smells Middle Eastern." To my nose it is a sweet sandalwood, vaguely balmy, slightly soapy scent. Nothing to get terribly excited about, but not bad either.

temporal

Rich multilayer fragrance, perfectly balanced, the phases come in accords of notes (not turning into a solo). A touch of warm vanilla becomes milder and naturally sweeter through its development.

Though this perfume is too heavy for a pale ash blonde, I admire this gorgeous bouquet, created for vivid women.

UPD: this fragrance reveals its mild yet multilayer charm in winter time! For those who are doubting (as I was), there are miniatures of this fragrance (5 ml) in Yves Rocher's boutiques.

review based on Le Parfum version

I tried the normal version when it launched, it left me a faint impression of some sexy animalic feeling in the drydown. I thought it would be good so later I bought Le Parfum version, but found it is a different one, and goes sour on me - vanilla always goes wrong on me. So I put it in my closet for 2 years or maybe more, and last winter when I picked it again, either my skin changed or the scent got evoled itself, it's just surprisingly briliant.

I got a very brief resin like anise opening, giving the whole scent a wonderful glittering finish, like the varnish coated on the surface of wood furniture. When the anise faded, resin feel still continued and brings the warm body notes. The spice and sweet balanced well, so warm and tender that makes me feel wrapping myself in some fur coat or raw cotton piles, this maybe the balmy feeling lots people mentioned. the lasting power is great as well, now it's my fav winter scent

unquote

Bought the Le Parfum concentration.

Definitely meant for those who are so sure about themselves. A storm of myrrh and opoponax.

I'm a man, but enjoyed some juices marketed as "feminine". This one really fits as it raises more question about yourself than it answers. Intriguing.

Not for the faint-hearted, though. Definitely not a toy.

bleuciel

From the bottle and for the first few minutes after spraying, there is very medicinal strong old-fashioned note that is overpowering. I can't almost smell the actual perfume because of this note. Fortunately, about half an hour to an hour later, the medicinal smell disappears and the warm deep amber perfume remains. I see it has a bunch of ingredients, I can only smell the note(s) that make up amber. It's quite linear, but I like it as such as it won't produce any headaches.
Sillage is moderate to close to skin - that's a good thing for this perfume. Longevity - about 5-6 hours on skin.
What I like best is the linear composition: this way another perfume aficionado will not be able to guess from the start what perfume you're wearing. It has the good marking for a signature perfume for someone not extremely young (20+ y.o.). I might actually order it when YR will have another discount.

BelleBeryl

Very nice amber fragrance with a hint of spice, lasts for a long time on skin. I bought this as a miniature this past winter for its warming ambery scent. Just lovely oriental perfume.Very pleasant for winter/fall.

lyciumchld

As the previous reviewer noted, YR Voile d'Ambre is quite reminiscent of Obsession, without the civet note (which I hated!). It also reminds me of a slightly less sweet Amber Romance (Victoria's Secret). It's pleasant, romantic, sultry, and sweet. This is a somewhat powdery amber, and in the dry-down it develops a slight vanilla and tobacco or leather smell which is quite nice. The opening isn't my favorite, but the dry-down is beautiful.

Délicieux

Extremely sexy scent. Definitely reminiscent of Calvin Klein's Obsession as many others below me have noted! Although I will say that it's lacking that sickening fake civet note that the reformulated Obsession has. This is a good thing! I actually loved the vintage Obsession, so in a way this gives me the feeling of the original before it was ruined. Also a very good thing.

It's still vaguely animalic. Smoky, spicy, a bit woodsy. The dry down is truly sensual. The vanilla note is most prominent during this time, yum. This stuff lasts and lasts. I've had it on 6 hours and can still smell it!

It's a cold Spring day so I thought it would be safe to try it. I would absolutely wear this in the winter. It makes me feel warm and cozy, like I'm sipping a fine cognac by the fire. Great job Yves Rocher! Now, if we can just convince them not to discontinue it. Oh, I hope they don't...and the bottle is simply elegant and gorgeous!

Robih

This is one of my favourites when I want to wrap myself in a warm. soothing scent on a blustery rainy day. It starts with a hit of spice, quickly mellowing to rich amber and incense with soft vanilla undertones. Sweet without being cloying, and sexy in an understated way. Perhaps a bit racy for day, but perfect for an intimate evening...I really love this one!

ScentedPianist

Voile d'Ambre is simply the best perfume for its price. Ridiculously high quality, for such a low price.

It's a soft, cozy, beautiful oriental perfume. Its main notes are the incenses and myrrhs, also vanilla. It's sweet and velvety.

It's a pure delight to smell it, and to own it: I'm a man, and I would definitely buy it, one day, since I find it very unisex.

It starts out pungent and strong, but it quickly melts down in a beautiful, yet, always present perfume. With that said, its longevity is excellent and its sillage moderate-high.

I find it very creamy, ambery and oriental

It's very refined, classy, no one would ever say this is a Yves Rocher perfume, truly.

The bottle is high quality, very well design, beautiful.

Such a gem, for this price, who wouldn't like it? I would. And I'm certain many persons would, too.

I have very high expectations for all the "Secrets d'Essences" line, since this is the only one I've smelled.

Thank you Yves Rocher :)

Sofy888

This multifaceted, slightly spicy, slightly resinous, slightly bitter, moderately sweet, dry, woody fragrance with subtle notes of vanilla and herbs, has its own character and uplifting.

Perfume has good stability, and it can be worn during the day, and as the evening perfume, best revealed in the cold autumn and winter.

ZELJO

A real jewel, seduction, sensuality, all in a bottle, the right one to wear for a special gala or dinner where you have to meet a lot of people, this one suits perfectly the short distances and wont leave anybody indifferent

opa

Oh,I love this one - reminds me my beloved Serge Luten's Chergui - that balmy & smoky softness!Enjoyable to wear - very well balanced , comforting, noble and long lasting.

anna.glowacka

This is was my blind buy after reading your reviews. One of the best. Absolutely love it. Heavy, smoky, woody. Dries down to raw vanilla on my skin and brings me back in time to Obsession.

FoxyVixen

It smells a lot like Ambre Fétiche by Annick Goutal, but Goutal smells warmer. It smells very good and I really really like it. I can clearly and distinctively smell the ambery notes. It stays for long enough but not as long as Ambre Fétiche. But for the price, it is a very good deal IMO if you're searching for a similar fragrance to Ambre Fétiche. I'm definitively buying it.

rosembloom

As a reviewer said below, I too believe it is closer to Prada Amber than the L'Occitaner or Les Neredes. Amber by BBW is fig-sweet wheras this one is balmy-richness, warm woodiness and a deep sophisticated floriental. A touch of dry vanilla rounds up the patchy spices and resins that make this amber so rich. It does have an Old School vibe that I enjoy and a leather note I find in vintage Chantilly. The drydown is rich yet soft and lingers like Shalimar Powder freshly applied on clean skin. Not a love but I love to layer it with my other scents to create a personalised frag of my own. Godd quality, goood longevity, medium to little projection, smouldering yet opulent like a blazing fire. 7 on 10

Ninula

it is very nice & elegant imo BUT after 1st hour... i can strongly feel it on me during the day - especially on the tube. and im afraid people are going to run away cos its' soo strong. (even if i spray it a tiny but)
other than that - i like the way it opens and becomes sweeter on me with each hour :)

Sammie7

Absolutely drop dead gorgeous fragrance! I have had so many compliments on this perfume! It last a long time, and has such a warm tone to it!

shamsiruhe

How can something be so simultaneously rich and light? It sings it's balmy perfection as the most chill oriental possible.

Can't say enough good about this perfume. Perfect for the connoisseur going somewhere that "challenging" perfume is not going to work...

"i crumble like a sugarcube. for you." -- yo la tengo

derya

it is perfect for +25.i didn't like this at all.indeed this is a strong sensual perfume just it is not suited me.

ingahoberg

To me this is so light that I really can not smell it, after spraying or an hour later. I tried using it for 3 months but would always wind up using something else on top of it cos I just can't smell it!

DresdenDoll

This is a fantastic balmy scent, it actually has to be my favourite of the ones I've tried.
Sweet and woody, with divine sillage and great staying power.
Les Nereides Imperial Opoponax is lovely excepting a car air freshener quality, Shalimar is still prickly in the top notes and L'Occitane's Amber is too medicinal. The closest I've come to what I've been looking for is Prada Amber, but that still has a slightly medicinal amber.
Voile d'ambre is really just perfect. Warm, with that lovely incense note floating over the top, with dry sandalwood and creamy opoponax, that's kept from being too heavy with the citrusy florals and patchouli. Just lovely. This has landed right on my want list.

Anissa

This really reminds me of Calvin Klein`s Obsession. It`s warm and spicy and has certain kind of 90`s feeling. Smells a lot more expensive than it really is. Best suitable for fall season and casual wear with cashmere sweater and jeans on.

pomdgf

All I can say this is very seductive oriental fragrance. It's darkness and mystery. A little bit spray in the morning you can be pretty and working woman but after daylight with a little more spray you can be a sexy secret woman. I love it ! Incense, one of my favorites. You should try !

Jvs3005

Can't really believe people rate this to be balmy. It has the strongest sillage and lasting power ever on my skin. I spray twice in the morning, work all day, go to bed and the scent is still there the morning after! People tend to notice it from a meter away too, but have never complained about it, quite the opposite.

I get incense, amber, myrrh, and maybe even a little bit of leather.

If your searching for fresh and fruity, then this one is a no-no for you. This isn't a girly scent, it's a feminine scent, the grown up version of Vanille Noir. Strong at anytime, but not overpowering. Ambery at the base, oh it's just lovely :). Suitable for day and night, in my opinion, allthought I would prefer Vanille Noir at night. Seasons don't matter (Live in Belgium, no good weather at all! :) )

laantjebanaantje

I must say that I didn't quite like the topnotes, but I find that often in nearly empty tester perfumes. They were chaotic and sharp and really did not make any sense.
The drydown however was a beautiful amber. Slightly sweet, slightly incency and smokey and quite animalic as well.
VOILE D'AMBRE is a very cuddly fragrance. Soft and warm. It's heavy, but not as heavy as most fragrances I like, so it's not a problem.
I don't think I'd buy a bottle, but it's a beautiful fragrance for layering.

dalmajen

What a pleasant surprise!! I got this little gem in a swap, and had never tried it before, but was impressed by the notes. I decided to plunge right in, and wear it, without even testing it. The opening is almost bitter, but a fresh type of bitter, I suppose this may be the mandarin leaf note). Then a sort of mild sweetness comes through, crisp, and then the incense starts to shine through. The sweetness dies down, blending ever so well with the base notes. The patchouli is just the right amount, blending with a fabulous sandalwood and vanilla. It has a wonderful warm, and comfortable feel to it. It has quite good sillage, and the staying power is modest, but this is not unusual for my skin chemistry. I do prefer heavier orientals! Some may find it strong, but it must be tried to judge. All in all, I am impressed, and the balancing of the notes, really make this a wonderful fragrance, with a very nice dry down.

dlane1953

If velvet had a fragrance, this would be what it smells like. Intrigued by the many positive reviews, as well as tempted by the notes, I bought the EDP and I'm in love. My first fully "amber" type perfume that really works for me. This is luscious, soft, sexy, and to top it off, very affordable as well. I don't notice much development in this fragrance; it opens softly and stays that way throughout, but that's not a negative statement by a long shot. The basenotes are not heavily woody, it's quite subtle and very beautiful. Sillage is good, longevity excellent. I could wear this everyday. Highly recommended!

missk

Voile d'Ambre is one very lovely fragrance, that smells a lot more expensive than it actually is. Although an oriental, this is not as loud or as deep as you might expect. It is in fact quite soft and sweet.

I love Voile d'Ambre for its delicacy and animalic undertones. It is very pretty and pleasing on the skin, and dare I say, rather sensual too. It's enough to be worn intimately with a loved one, and I do believe men find it quite enchanting.

Opoponax is easily one of my favourite notes, so technically this isn't an amber fragrance, because this note is in abundance. Soft, sweet sandalwood based incense gives Voile d'Ambre that smooth and even finish. Many may mistake this for an amber fragrance, and either love it or feel cheated by it. Honestly, it's not syrupy or heavy like most ambers tend to be, but powdery and sweet, with a subtle fecal, yet oddly beautiful drydown.

I was really surprised by the lasting strength, which held on for a good six hours despite the scent's softness. The cold, wintry weather brings out this fragrance in all its glory. I probably wouldn't wear this fragrance in Spring and Summer in fear of it becoming too thick and nauseating.

Women that don't usually fall into the category of orientals while out perfume shopping, may enjoy Voile d'Ambre for its subtlety and price. Another plus is its versatility, being suitable for both formal or casual wear.

I am most grateful to my friend Renate who sent me a sample of this beautiful fragrance. Yves Rocher is not sold where I live, so being able to sniff this fragrance has been a real highlight. I may even be ordering a bottle sometime in the near future.

queennoreen

Totally alluring and seductive and unforgettable and over the last few years has become my signature fragrance, most people have never had a whiff of it so its not recognizable, it is intriguing and it will linger...

Carolina Telo

I purchased this two months ago and I must admit it has become very quick one of my favorites. It's a very warm and comfortable fragrance and I love the drydown of it. A friend offered me for my birthday the bodylotion and when you layer both, it's even more delicious. I even prefer this to Oppoponax from Les Nereides... To me it's not heavy at all. A very very lovely perfume!

perfumereviewer

I didn't expect much when I took a sniff at the perfume in the store...and boy! was I in for a surprise. The lovely vanillic amber embraced by sandalwood oil and myrrh (I don't know why but my mind has a hard time saying myrrh and instead says myrrrrrr like a cat purring) topped by a teeny weenie green top note got me hooked. As it wears on the skin small hints of incense appear making it even nicer but, as always, I would prefer them a little bit stronger. There's nothing too much in this perfume and is very nicely blended together, lovely to wear during the day and in the evening, summer or winter to church and on a date. I would call it a beginners’ oriental and definitely recommend it, be you on a budget or not.

Annica

This is a very beautiful oriental perfume in class with fragrances from the most renowned perfume houses in my opinion. The only negative thing for me is the powdery feeling. I actually feel a slight irritation to my nose as if I need to sneeze so therefore I am very careful when I spray it. Stayingpower is superb, 8 h +.
Congratulations to YR for this fragrance!

Justyna

Love frome the second sniff, not stunning but slowly addicting... I had some YR scents when I was young and out of money, then I became an old snob and rejected this brand as "cheap", but Voile d'Ambre is so different, that I have to revise my prejudice:) Warm and cozy with a bitter citrus opening, soft enough for work, sexy enough for after work, like a beige or caramel cashmere pullover. Very natural. My number one this winter!

rtquadros

Is similar to Imperial Opoponax, but with more ambar and less myrrh.

Joanna2533

It was today that I received this sent, as I had ordered it online. After I smelled it for some hours, it seems to me warm, woody and somehow powdery. One weak point is its longevity. It is really modest even in comparison to other YR perfumes.

Arrogant_Cat

I am now starting to appreciate Yves Rocher more and more. This house delivers excellent quality for more than reasonable price.

For the record, Voile d'Ambre is beautiful. It took a while to grow on me, but I am glad I have given it time to unfold it`s gracious beauty.
An understated, very well executed amber fragrance. I have never smelled opoponax so I am not sure about what it exactly smells like, but if it is actually as beautiful as in Voile d'Ambre, it could easily be one of my favourite notes.

The drydown is my favourite part: ambery, slightly spicy vanilla with faint caramelish undertones. Just yummy, but not in a gourmand way.

It is a pretty bold, long lasting fragrance with decent, pleasant sillage. What a steal for the price! After falling in love with Cocoon, Voile d'Ambre gets a "love" from me too, no doubt. Yves Rocher did it again. :)

thaocrockett

A strong patcholi and incence came first and faded in about fifteen minutes. Then amber scent kicked in and getting stronger than the others. In about half an hour, mostly dry amber dominance with a hint of incence. I could smell sandalwood once in a while but not really noticeable.
The combination is complex, rich, and deep. I definitely like it a lot.

arubadream

It's not the perfume, it's just me...

I am not at all a fan of anything oriental and anything amber, maybe because I live in a country where it is hot/ humid all year round.

It starts off with fresh citrus but it becomes too sweet, not too spicy but very medicinal. It's very warm, actually too warm for me that it gives me headache. Also patchouli hates me...or maybe I hate patchouli...we never seem to get along.

It has great great sillage though applied lightly (1 spray) and lasted for about 10 hours on me.

Voile d'Ambre is very luxurious, mature and sophisticated; I don't hate it but it's just not for me....I don't want to wear perfume that makes me smell like medicine

The Swedish girl

I had a bottle of this some time ago, and then I didn`t like it at all. Perhaps I got a bad bottle?
Because now I bought a new one, and I freaking love it.

It´s such a warm, sweet, smokey, rounded and comforting amber/vanilla, with excellent sillage. No harsh edges whatsoever in this perfume, just how I want my scents.

A bit old school, but very classic and always right. Not "too mature smelling" or anything like that.

And the price is ok also. Smells very expensive though.

Me like!

Unikko

I have a bit ambivalent relationship with amber. I love the idea of it but many times it's just too overpowering note for me. My skin tends to emphasize all sweet notes in perfumes and amber especially is something that tends to grow huge on my skin.

Voile d'Ambre is a wearable amber to me, and it's by far my favourite amber scent. I have it in edp and pure parfum, and I prefer the parfum version which is slightly deeper and richer than the edp.

Voile d'Ambre is a luxurious, silky perfume that blends with the skin and creates warm aura. It's a fairly strong and long lasting scent that is easy to overdo, especially since it seems to grow bigger as it warms up on the skin. Worn lightly, just one or two small sprizes, it's a wonderful warm cashmere shawl -type scent.

TankGirl

This fragrance does reminds me of Gaultier 2 without that boozy note that somewhat makes my head ache a little.
This is such a great perfume. Its complex but simple at the sime time, the fragrance has a great, classic composition but is very calm so you can wear it in "normal" occasions and not only in night gown.
I will be purchasing a big bottle of this.
The bottle is a pity, it reminds me of a medical liquid or something, a beauty like this should have a bottle to match it.
Although its an Yves Rocher this perfume could easily belong to a niche house (it is similar to Imperial Opoponax, this girls have a great nose to find similar fragrances!).
Classic, sunset, womanly, sweet, woody.
Another favourite for me, I'm in love.

Sillage: Modest
Longevity: Not to good a pity

BearysHoney

In the last year or so, this has become one of my signature scents. I've had men and women alike go nuts when I'm wearing it. Some people try to hug me just to smell my tops and hair lol. It is another one of those scents you have to use lightly but it settles so nicely on the skin, giving a nice warm, glowy type scent kind of like a nice wood fire. I get so many compliments but even more so around the holidays!

cloyd42

If you want to round out your perfume wardrobe with a good classic amber I strongly recommend this one. While I can check off the listed notes this scent is so nicely made that the overall effect is a warm sophisticated amber, the sort of perfume that Grace Kelly or Jackie Kennedy would wear. This scent is also causing me to rethink L'Eau Ambree by Prada, which is a blatant knockoff of this lovely perfume. One other thing I like about this scent is the persistence: it fades slowly and evenly, primarily with a reduced sillage more than loss of notes or richness.

Sillage: reasonable 1-2 ft
Duration: 5-6 hours
Fabulosity: diamond stud earrings
Price to value ratio: good

I found Voile d'Ambre to be a fairly light perfume, even right after spraying it. It dries down quickly to skin scent on me, with moderate lasting power. It's a nicely done scent, well-rounded and not bland, though not exceptional. Definitely a classic Oriental formula, but done with restraint and I must say with quality. It won't make you stop in your tracks wondering what it is, but you may find yourself coming to rely on it if you are partial to ambers. It makes a great everyday scent or comfy scent for amber lovers, and its lower price point makes it a viable choice if you want a pleasant amber perfume for daily use so you can save your spendier amber perfumes for special occasions or evenings. It comes in a travel-size bottle as well as a regular size, which is awfully convenient to throw in a purse or suitcase. All in all, worth having and likeable.

Lgascco

I received a sample mini bottle in the mail yesterday...the bottles' simple lines are very nice...other than that, this smells just like Gaultier 2....minus the strength of that nauseating tar like afternote that lingers all day...(the only note Gaultier2 has)..this is pretty close to being just as much of a sweet, slightly burned brown sugar single note fragrance....not complex, nor gourmand in an interesting way....unresolved, and not for me!

Yanna

I'm quite surpriced that there is no agar wood listed... Very well done! Quite a gentleman scent.

daliflora

I'm not sure I ever liked this fragrance: too heavily oriental for me. I've got a small sample bottle from Yves Rocher and I've used it for some time, as an alternative to the more elegant Yria, which I really liked. But in itself I think it's a good fragrance, for those who are fans of warm orientals.

TiaTia

this is like a warm embrace. cozy, caressing and grown-up.
when it's cold outside, this scent is like a shelter. it makes you glow and wraps a wonderful soft aura around you.

Habanita

Maybe I'm not the amber-type of person, but I disliked this perfume a lot. Luckily we have Yves Rocher shops where you can test-spray and don't have to buy something just via mail order.

Pierina

This sounds very lovely and just my type.. Does anyone here know if Yves Rocher still sell in Australia? the did about 14 years ago...
please inbox.

Voile d'Ambre is an absolutely gorgeous comfort scent that makes me feel snuggly, warm and all aglow. There are a lot of similarities between this and Les Nereides Imperial Opoponax.

Voile d'Ambre is beautifully radiant with amber and opoponax all the way through, with a nicely balanced warm vanilla base. Where Voile d'Ambre feels woodsy and warm, Imperial Opoponax fluctuates between fresh (with its citrus top notes) and cozy with a slightly medicinal vibe. V d'A is more of a cold weather fragrance; IO can be worn all year round if applied carefully. V d'A is a great option if budget is a consideration, you want something less 'nichey' and a more wearable opoponax.

I still prefer my IO, but may just get myself a mini of this well blended Yves Rocher gem.

LaPetite

Most of the time , with the Yves Rocher's scents' names , you know where you're going to .
Voile d'Ambre is indeed very amber-ish , comfy , warm , rich , kind of spicy . Makes me think of the "Ambrée Authentique " of Mont Saint Michel , in a more complex version however.
Very very nice, but i think i won't buy it , at least not now . It doesn't fit my personality imo .

Mellyhelly

Eventually I could buy a full bottle of this in a shopping mall where an Yves Rocher shop is still going! I happened to pass by there by chance, because I took a wrong road while driving to another place :-D
I don't know why so many shops close down.
It's not so cheap after all, but I really wanted it. I tested the EdT version from tester and I found it very pleasant, then I bought the EdP and when I got back to my car I started spraying! Mmmm, so nice! It's so warm and aromatic, yet not invading at all!
I wouldn't call it a complex perfume. It smells more of a simple good ambery scent. Amber is not listed, but amber is often an effect created by other notes.
Voile d'Ambre for me is a well-being, serene and warm fragrance for rainy cold days. I prefer to wear it during daytime, because my favourite fragrances for evening going out are much more sophisticated and layered.
It's funny that someone mentioned Samsara. That was my long long time never forgotten love!
I don't wear it now due to memories and re-formulation. I see some similarities indeed, but Voile d'Ambre smells like a fraction of glorious Samsara.
Staying power is good, sillage is average. In spite of being warm and aromatic, also powdery, it never screams your presence from km.

I love it, love it, love it!!! It´s perfect, incredibly sophisticated, pleasant and it longs for hours and hours. It´s perfect for winter or evening events only, because it´s a strong scent.

VOILE D’AMBRE is a gorgeous and mysterious scent. The myrrh and incense represent the ancient times so well while the warm woods and vanilla make the combination soothing and comfortable. And of course the resins (opoponax) remind me of a beautiful amber stone and its origin.

VOILE D’AMBRE is rich, smooth and well-balanced. The top notes are fresh burst of spicy citrus but it transforms immediately into the smooth and earthy resins with the spicy notes of cardamom. I love incense, myrrh and resins in the heart notes with their mysterious, dreamy and ancient vibe. The patchouli is quite noticeable but it is so harmonious with other notes that it does not appear too strong or overpowering. The dry down is very smooth with creamy vanilla, sandalwood and a touch of patchouli.

VOILE D’AMBRE is rich and sophisticated scent but it floats like a graceful veil masterfully weaved by the perfect harmony of the notes. This perfume has calming effect on me. There is something about it that seems so soothing and relaxing. When I wear it I feel that the time stops and the stress and chaos of everyday life are replaced by a serenity and connection to the eternity. I absolutely love this scent and recommend it if you are looking for myrrh – incense – resins – vanilla combo.

Very good perfume : Voile d'Ambre is like a mystery, feminine, seductive, full of secrets, not too strong...and it lasts. For women but not for girls.

Yves Rocher VOILE D'AMBRE is an interesting creation, and also aptly named. This really offers a golden veil-like layer of gleaming, lustrous amber--or so it seems. Somehow all of the very strong elements blend together to create what appears to be a fairly uniform layer of amber. The cardamom and myrrh do not assert themselves loudly as individual notes, rather they appear in an amalgamated form along with the sandalwood and patchouli. This smooth, somewhat sweet amberosity is nearly linear, though not quite. It does change from the opening to the drydown, becoming a bit less spicy but remaining slightly sweet.

Unlike BBW SENSUAL AMBER, VOILE D'AMBRE does not smell synthetic, but it is still just sweet enough to remind me more of BBW than, say, Robert Piguet BAGHARI, and it is nowhere near as complex and sniff-worthy as Omnia AMBRA. But this is a good, respectable amber perfume, all things considered. VOILE D'AMBRE is absolutely wearable and accessible, albeit not entirely compelling to me.

i think its smell like SAMSARA but less strong and less musky......like it!

beauty_girl

It smells strong and a bit sweet but not for me. But where is the amber,it is not anywhere in the notes!!!!!!!!

I bought this unsniffed, thinking that the notes listed in any combination couldn't possibly go wrong, but as with every other Yves Rocher fragrance I've tried, there is that blasted burnt sugar note that ruins it for me. It seems like the distiller is letting the essential oils go a second too long and burning the ingredients a tad, which makes them smell cheap and synthetic. There's potential for a gorgeous fragrance in many of their blends, but that one common burnt note makes them all scrubbers for me... so far, anyway. I'll revise if I find one that doesn't share that characteristic.

Edit - two+ years later & I've seemingly gone through another hormonal change... because I actually love this one, now. I was cleaning out some unwanted samples, etc... and gave this one another last whiff before adding it to my swap extras box. Wow, it's crazy how much my perceptions of scents can change over time. Now, I smell citrus peels, smoke, vanilla, amber, dry woods & a teeny bit of patch... and am on my way to a full bottle purchase. My sincere apologies to YR for my earlier bash! I've purchased a full bottle, in repentance.

It's quite strong to begin with. Made me think of some bath essences Yves Rocher had before. Good in the bath tub, but not so good on my wrist. It's not a bad fragrance when it settles, but I feel it lacks something. I don't find it sweet at all, in fact I think it would've been better with gourmand notes. Stronger vanilla could've done the trick for me. I guess it will be good for layering, as it's quite simple/linear. I think it's better than Rose Absolue from the same collection.

A really nice warm softly spicy scent, its woody ad oriental but creamy and soft too. A lovely winter scent I think.

I tend to love Yves Rocher fragrances so was anxious to try this one. I tried a sample today as the weather is cold, damp & gray. Just seemed like the perfect time to try Voile d'Ambre. It's softly sweet, velvety smooth, warm & caressing, reminds me of a nice glowing fire & a super soft cashmere shawl wrapped around your body. The amber scent is there, myrrh, sandlewood & patchouli. It's a nice combination. It's not heavy or intrusive at all. I like it, I do...I just don't love it! If I had a bottle I would wear it as a "go to" daily winter scent but I'm not going out of my way to buy it. I've been looking for an Amber fragrance & unfortunately this doesn't fit my bill. Kind of disappointed me as I tend to love Yves Rocher so much. Maybe I'll give it another try one day.

I tested it several times a long time ago and always thought it was a little bit "dated", a little "old lady"-ish.
But last winter I kind of had an amber revelation and started to become fond of woody and amber scents. I learned to appreciate how well they settle on the skin and how warm and cozy they are. That's how I ended up adding Voile d'Ambre to my collection along with Obsession by CK and Roma by Laura Biaggiotti. Actually I found it almost identical to Roma at first!
But this winter when I resumed my amber therapy again I struggled with this one. I still love the resin and pinewood notes that linger on your skin for hours but after one month of use I have had to give up, I was not enjoying it any more, I find it too boring now. I also agree with some of the previous reviews in the sense that it's almost masculine, not as feminine as I would like. Roma shares the same base notes but with a floral complexity that makes it more rich and pleasant to wear. It "tells" much more things than Voile d'Ambre.
Amber scents are starting to become popular again with Prada and Armani modernizing this classic but in a lighter and much more interesting way.
I followed the advice of Mellyhelly and started to wear it with other scents from the Secrets d'Essences series. In my case I pair it with Iris Noir and the result is much nicer than wearing it alone. I have learned from that experience to give more importance to first impressions when choosing a perfume and to trust my gut instincts more.

This is a nice 'warm' scent, spicy but not too ovewhelming or strong, at least not after a while. In the beginning it was a tad strong, but I did put on a lot (had to pour from a mini bottle). However the 'strongness' fades away after a not too long time.
Voile d'Ambre is also very long lasting. I put it on about 7 hours ago and I can still smell it on my wrist(after many handwashes and a shower).

I think this is a perfume that fits everyone from 20 to 120, and it is something I would wear to special occasions as well as a more serious everyday scent.

Eventually I could test Voile d'Ambre in one of the left store in a shopping mall! I had high expectations about this... I really expected an enveloping scarf of raw but sweet amber... too high expectations! Voile d'Ambre is a very pleasant ambery scent with a good staying power, poor sillage and a lovely smell altogether, quite monodimensional, reminiscent of my beloved L'Eau d'Ambre, something I would wear very easily and enjoy it, still not HG!
Strangely enough the note pyramid on the bottle showed no amber! I thought it a mistake in Fragrantica site!
Well, it smells like amber or anything we think amber is.
This could be worn alone or as a lovely base for light florals. I think it matches well with YR Rose Absolu.
Price for EdP is not so cheap! When I'll finish my L'Eau d'ambre I will probably buy this one.

Well I don't mind admitting I am a HUGE fan of this, and yet have been [usually] disappointed with most Yves Rocher fragrances. Voile d'Ambre, for me, is an amazing perfume for the money. In a blind test, you could have told me this cost 3 times the actual price and I wouldn't have blinked.

The mandarin leaf and cardamom really stand out in the top notes and stop this being a dusty, fusty sort of amber with a one-note hit which induces nothing more than ennui. A lovely, warm and inviting drydown with a dark vanilla & sandalwood ending that just lasts and lasts.

I can honestly say I have never had more complimets from men than when wearing this one. Last year, when I wore this quite a lot, I was stopped 3 times in one day alone by men asking what lovely perfume I was wearing, or simply commenting "Mmmmm, you smell gorgeous!"

I fell out of love with it a little, through overuse I think. However, I have recently re-purchased a bottle and am very glad I did. At first I thought I'd made a mistake, but after a few minutes I felt like I was being welcomed back into the arms of a first love.

I like this perfume and u can smell this many, many hours ... sweet but adorable , with a lot of power ...on my skin is great makes u feel good and calm

tessture

On me, this goes on sweet and soft like Hanae Mori, but it ends up mostly sandalwood and patchouli with little else. Last gasp is sharp twangy wood with no amber to speak of.It crawled right up my nose. I ended up scrubbing it off. There are far better orientals than this. Better Ambers, too.

I haven't decided if I like this one or not yet ... I was expecting - what with the name and all - that this would smell like amber, but it doesn't. Not to me - not in the bottle, and not on my skin. It is a sort of "non" scent - it just doesn't have any "oomph," which is what I expect from a perfume like this. Maybe I'll change my mind - but at this point, I'm ambivalent.

Juliette has a gun

Not bad at all, given the bargain price and the trend for "amber perfumes".
Not the work of a genius, but pleasant and long-lasting. So much better than other "Amber" fragrances which are more expensive and tell the same story for twice the price!

rieuse

I like Voile D'Ambre and I don't find it heavy at all. I think even young girls may use this scent. You shouldn't bathe in it, for sure, because it might be a lil strong at first but when the top notes go away you're surrounded by a wonderful smell. It was an award winning fragrance in 2007.

Kasku

I tried on a sample...I imagined it to be mature and too serious. It acctually had a sweet and fun note. It stays on for a long time. It's not for me though.

AmilkA

to tell the truth, this one is the best of best perfumes I have ever had :) especially for winter... strong, outstanding, but warm and cosy.
