Sridevi and Michael Jackson: In life as in death, alike

There is so much more to the glamorous superstar, Sridevi, than we actually know. It is only after her death, that we are getting to hear interesting stories about her personal life, from her close friends and family.

She might have been reserved for the most part, but there was something that she never hid from the public.

It was her adulation for the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

Sridevi had a strong fondness for him. And this love found its way into several of her films, through her youth to her big-screen comeback.

"I WORSHIP MICHAEL JACKSON"

Sridevi was a spectacular dancer. For the four decades that she worked in films, she enthralled millions with her graceful moves. And interestingly, many of her dance moves and poses were inspired by Michael Jackson.

Sridevi's love for Michael Jackson can be traced all the way back to Chaalbaaz (1989), which had a special song dedicated to MJ. In Naam Mera Premkali, we see Sridevi recreating several iconic Michael Jackson poses. That was not all. Her clothes and the ringlets were all reminiscent of Jackson's 80s avatar.

When Sridevi made her comeback in films with English Vinglish, it had to have a tribute to Michael Jackson.

In the film, when her son asks her to show off her Michael Jackson moves, Shashi nails the poses.

In an interview in 2012, Sridevi said that she was a huge fan of Michael Jackson. "I worship him," she had said, laughing. She even made sure that her character Shashi, in the film, was a fan of the pop icon.

Even in the last ad that she shot, you can see her doing the trademark Michael Jackson move, where steps off the chair.

WHEN SHE PAINTED MJ

Sridevi was a brilliant artist too; something that not many are aware of. In 2014, she posted a painting of Michael Jackson on Twitter. It was her tribute to the legend, and a gift for her daughter. She wrote, "A tribute I had painted for Janhvi of Michael Jackson. #RememberingMJ."

UNITED IN TRAGEDY

Michael Jackson and Sridevi were cultural icons in their own right, and were at the peak of their careers - Sridevi at the peak of her career 2.0 - before their untimely demise.

These were two shining stars, who had struggled to make it to the top, and had gone through their personal share of pain and losses in life. They were both considered groundbreaking in their respective fields. Michael Jackson is the undisputed King of Pop, even today. Sridevi, immortal in her work on film.
