Interview with Crown Princess Victoria before the birthday
Crown Princess Victoria receives in the garden at Haga. Now she tells about her great hiking trip, the fond childhood memories with the king and queen and her great wish with Prince Daniel.
Since her 40th birthday, Crown Princess Victoria has walked all of Sweden's provinces. In times when Swedes are forced to stay at home, she hopes that more people will discover nature - to also start to take better care of it.
Now the experience has become a book, by Johan Erséus, which will be released just in time for her 43rd birthday.

The Crown Princess herself has written the foreword, in which she testifies about her longing for forest and land. Admittedly, due to her role, she has visited large parts of Sweden.
- But it is rare to get out into nature, it is often the cities you get to, she says. A sunny day outside Haga Castle, and continues:
- This is also in line with Daniel's and my ambition to encourage more physical activity and to break our sedentary lifestyle that increasingly characterizes our society. And the hikes were a great excuse not to just be inside the office, she says.
Reminding Swedes of our natural treasure is a passion that the Crown Princess has had for a long time. She pays tribute to the everyman's right, which makes nature accessible to everyone - free of charge.
The call to the Swedish people in the corona crisis
- You can do a lot in Sweden and now more than ever we Swedes are needed here at home. When international tourism will not be so tangible, we will need to support the actors who are struggling to survive, she says.
She herself was struck by the variety of nature during her hikes. In fact, she had already seen a trip to Sweden for her inner self: she got the vision before her wedding ten years ago, when she and her future husband Daniel listened to Benny Andersson's music, which then became the song “Vilar glad. I din famn” with text by Kristina Lugn.
- It may sound a little strange but before our wedding this fantastic song was written and we sat in the studio and got to listen. It was as if the whole of Sweden was played for me. It felt like I was sitting on the goose Akka in Nils Holgersson's journey, and started in Skåne with all the plains, depths and fields. So I thought, "how can I be Nils Holgersson?"
During the hikes, she carried with her a note with words that she received from Skara's dean in Västergötland: “Freedom. Slowness. Simplicity. Carelessness. Silence. Attributing. Spirituality." But there was not really that much reflection - instead, the hikes became educational trips where each landscape gave new lessons about everything from industrial history to geology.
That we should get out more is not just about our own health.
- It is healing and healing in many ways to be in nature, both physically and mentally. But I think that also for our future, it is important that many learn to appreciate nature, to protect it and see the values ​​that can otherwise be lost, very quickly.
She emphasizes important actors, such as when preschools teach children about pollination and cycles. Her own interest in the environment was founded in childhood, when her parents often talked about nature and the environment, she remembers.
Victoria's own summer plans
- It is fantastic that people move outside and get an increased desire for forest and land, but wear and tear increases. So then you have to be observant of how to lay joints and maybe re-lead, says the Crown Princess. She herself will have her holiday in her favorite province.
- I have spent all my summers on Öland, so it is close to my heart for that reason.
The work for biological diversity
- We try both at home and in the organization to talk about those issues and the Royal Djurgården Administration works with biological diversity: Which trees should be especially protected and what rare species do we have in the area. We have a very large responsibility in the Royal Court and the Royal Djurgården Administration, these are quite large green areas if you think of Ulriksdal, northern and southern Djurgården and Haga Park. But they are sensitive, they are located in the middle of a densely populated city, and they are used extremely much - which is fantastic. There you can teach about nature, but the wear and tear is also great. It is important that we are on the alert.

Crown Princess Victoria has given an exclusive interview with TT in connection with her birthday.  In the interview, she talks enthusiastically about her environmental interest and all the province hikes she has done in recent years. She also praises Greta Thunberg and says that it is dangerous if we stop caring, or think that we as individuals can not do anything.
