Reported speech - statements

Statements

direct speech - “I speak English.”
reported speech-
He says that he speaks English
тук не променяме времето, защото глагола says е в сегашно време, а сменяме само местоимението - I - he

но

reported speech
He said that he spoke English

She says, “My mum doesn’t have time today.” – She says that her mum doesn’t have time today.

Времена

не се променят, ако глагола въвеждащ пряката реч е в сегашно просто време, както примера по горе

но времето се променя, когато глагола, въвеждащ пряката реч е в минало време-т.е.said

He said, “I am happy.” – He said that he was happy

Simple Present  -----Simple Past
Present Progressive-------- Past Progressive
Simple Past Past -------------Perfect Simple
Present Perfect Simple -------------същото
Past Perfect Simple ----------------същото

COFFEE

Coffee was first discovered in Northern Africa in an area we know today as Ethiopia. A popular legend refers to a goat herder, who discovered that his goats act unusually frisky after eating berries from a bush. Curious about this, he tried eating the berries himself. He found that these berries gave him a renewed energy. The news of this energy fruit quickly spread throughout the region.

Monks hearing about this amazing fruit, dried the berries so that they could be transported to distant monasteries. They soaked them in water, ate the fruit, and drank the liquid to be awake longer for more prayers.

Coffee berries were transported from Ethiopia to the Arabian peninsula, and were first cultivated in what today is the country of Yemen.

From there, coffee traveled to Turkey where coffee beans were roasted for the first time over open fires. The roasted beans were crushed, and then boiled in water, almost the same way we enjoy coffee today.

Coffee first arrived on the European continent by means of Venetian trade merchants. Once in Europe this new beverage was criticised by the Catholic church. Many felt the pope should ban coffee, calling it the drink of the devil. To their surprise, the pope, already a coffee drinker, blessed coffee declaring it a truly Christian beverage.

In the 1700's, coffee found its way to the Americas by means of a French infantry captain who grew one small plant on his long journey across the Atlantic. This one plant, transplanted to the Caribbean Island of Martinique, became the predecessor of over 19 million trees on the island within 50 years.

Coffee was declared the national drink of the United States by the Continental Congress, in protest of the excessive tax on tea levied by the British crown.

Espresso obtained its origin in 1822, with the innovation of the first espresso machine in France. The Italians were the first to manufacture it. Espresso has become a part of Italian life and culture and there are presently over 200,000 espresso bars in Italy.

Today, coffee is a giant global industry employing more than 20 million people. It ranks second only to petroleum in terms of dollars traded worldwide. With over 400 billion cups consumed every year, coffee is the world's most popular beverage. If you can imagine, in Brazil alone, over 5 million people are employed in the cultivation and harvesting of over 3 billion coffee plants.

MEN AND WOMEN

I never have quite figured out why the sexual urges of men and women differ so much. I never have figured out the whole Mars & Venus thing. And I have never figured out why men think with their head and women with their heart.

One evening last week, my wife and I were getting into bed. Well, the passion starts to heat up, and she then says, "I don't feel like it, I just want you to hold me." I said, "WHAT?!"

So she says the words that I and every other husband on the planet dreads. She explains that I must not be in tune with her emotional needs as a Woman. I'm thinking, "What was her first clue?" I finally realized that nothing is going to happen that night, so I went to sleep.

The very next day we went shopping at a big department store. I walked around while she tried on three very expensive outfits. She couldn't decide which one to take, so I told her to take all three of them. She then tells me that she wants matching shoes worth $200 each to which I say, "OK." And then we go to the Jewellery Department where she gets a set of diamond earrings. Let me tell you ...she was so excited! She must have thought that I was going insane, but I don't think she cared. I think she was testing me when she asked for a tennis bracelet because she doesn't even play tennis. I think I threw her for a loop when I told her that it was OK. She was almost sexually excited from all of this and you should have seen her face when she said, "I'm ready to go, let's go to the cash register." I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, "No, honey. I don't feel like buying all this stuff now." You should have seen her face ... it went completely blank. I then said, "Really honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while."

Just when she had this look like she was going to kill me, I added, "You must not be in tune with my financial needs as a Man." I figure that I might be having sex again sometime during the spring of 2003.

Hug
